Permit me to pay a special tribute to a great
football club this week - Rangers International
Football Club of Enugu.
Many would wonder why I am doing so,
knowing that the football club was the greatest
rival to the club I played for through most of
my football career – IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
Between the two clubs, Rangers and Shooting Stars of
Ibadan, they defined and set the agenda for football
development in Nigeria for almost two decades. Some of the
best and most reliable friends that I cultivated through the
course of my life in sports, even to this day, came from
Rangers FC.
Our friendship has been deep and strong, and sustains to
this day!
Incidentally, the last year of my football career also marked
the last time Rangers International won the most prestigious
football title in the land – the national league. That was
some 32 years ago! That’s how long it has taken them to re-
mount the podium of victory once again.
I will not blame any young person below the age of 32,
therefore, that wonders why I would dedicate my entire
column this week to write about a team that, all things being
equal, will become the next champion of the Nigerian
Premier League this weekend.
It is not the feat itself that is significant but the story of the
team; where it has come from; what it represents in the
story of Nigeria; and what its current achievement means to
football and to the country as a whole.
There will be jubilation and celebration in several towns and
villages around Nigeria today when Rangers finally lifts the
trophy that has eluded them for so long.
This club was raised from the ashes of the Nigerian Civil war
in 1970, its significance rooted in the name given to it by one
of its founders, the late Justice Ikpeazu.
When the war ended and was declared ‘No Winner, No
Vanquished’ by the then Nigerian Head of State, General
Yakubu Gowon, it was clear that the Igbo people needed
more than those words to bury the humiliation of surrender
and to spearhead a full psychological and physical re-
integration into the main stream of social life and political
engagements in the country, devoid of the stigma of a
conquered people.
The Igbos, a very proud and hardworking people, with an
awesome reputation for their industry and commercial sixth
sense, needed a get-out-of-jail card for their re-entry to a
new Nigeria.
The leadership anchored their intention to an innocent
weapon that they believed would not fail - a football club
named after one of their most devastating weapons during
the civil war, a cannon that inflicted massive destruction on
the enemy, called the Ranger!
The political leaders at the time, including Dr. Jim Nwobodo,
the first civilian governor of Enugu State, founded the
football club and called it Enugu Rangers Football Club.
Not many people knew that during the most bloody civil war
in history, that claimed over two million Nigerian lives on
both sides of the conflict, the war was temporarily halted
(voluntarily by both armies) so that the fighting soldiers of
both armies could listen to the radio commentaries of a
football match between Santos FC of Brazil, and a Nigerian
selected side at the King George V Stadium, in Onikan Lagos,
that featured the legendary Pele.
That match was a clear demonstration of how much
Nigerians loved and followed their country’s number one
sport. The Igbos latched onto that passion and presented
this all-conquering football club, to fast-track and catalyse
their return.
In 1970, the march of Rangers Football Club of Enugu began.
That year it got to the finals of the FA Cup and lost narrowly.
The following year, and for the next decade, it dominated
Nigerian football like no other club had ever done in the
history of the country, and achieved for the Igbo people
what guns could not on the battlefield!
Rangers International FC conquered Nigerian football,
winning everything in the land by playing football crafted
from the battlefields of Biafra – physicality, ferocity, skills,

kishimi8:its seems you don't understand what op is saying. Tell me one Mechanical Engineer who has designed a car in nigeria for Nigerian use. But there are one million and one road side Engineers in ladipo spare part market converting, building cars without wasting 5 years in school. An average road side electrician doesn't know difference between parallel and series in electricity but can wire an estate with electricity. |
Caracta:what are u studying? |
My mother in-law and her daughter are in igando general hospital as a result of this disease. |
This is the reason why our goverment will never allow our education system to be good because if it's good, youths will know their right and do the needful. Imagine someone who was accused of eating your destiny, paid you peanut from what she might have stolen from you to protest for her! Is that not advance illiteracy perfected by these crooks? What relationships do these youths have with her? Are they her children, bro or what? Why can't she use her children and those who benefited from her when her husband was in power. Abi these youth benefited from her? |
If i were his father i will just tell him that the money i used in training him since his birth was blood money but since blood money too is a wrong foundation he should refund the whole money to me. Or else his mother will tell the whole world who his father is. |

facelessangel:Please read the article and understand where we were coming from. Obasanjo created a reserve to $65B then yardua and Goodluck squandard it to $460M. Ask your self assuming the reserve was left at the $65B or rose to #100B due to oil boom at their time, will we have deficit in our budget? Will it affect our exchange rate? I beg reason it. Don't just blame their present situation but think of where u were coming from. |
GuyfawkesAB:You too use your own bible verse to twist it. |
Sanchez01:No one prays to dead saints, because those in heaven are more alive than we are. The Lord is God of the living, not of the dead. The fervent prayer of a righteous man is very powerful (Jas 5:16). Those in heaven are surely righteous, since nothing unclean can enter heaven (Rv 21:27). Those in heaven are part of the Mystical Body of Christ and have not been separated from us by death, but surround us as a great cloud of witnesses (Heb 12:1). They stand before the throne of God and offer our prayers to him (Rv 5: and cheer us on as we run the good race. Intercession among membersof the body of Christ is pleasing to God (1 Tm 2:1-4) and even commanded by him (Jn 15:17). Those in heaven have a perfected love, so how could they not intercede for us? Christ is the vine, and we are the branches; if we are connected to him, we are inseparably bound together as well. Can the eye say to the hand, "I need you not"? Neither are we to say we don’t need the prayers of our brothers and sisters (alive here or in heaven), because salvation is a family affair. |

5 years from now, nigeria league would be the most glamorous league in africa and one of the best in the world. |

GEJ claims he didnt know there was so much corruption in his
regime yet he fired Sanusi when the latter raised alarm about some
monumental stealing at the NNPC. He shielded Dizieni from the
House of Reps when a query was raised on her 10billion naira
expenditure on chatering jets. He kept Stella Odua and Abba Moro
inspite of their involement in high profile scandals. Yet he did not
know there was corruption in his govt. Haba !!! Elders should have
no business with lies |
In all honesty, a lot of things happened during Jonathan administration, unfortunately he was not aware and he solely put his trust and relied on the appointed personalities. This is quite unfortunate! The former president, Jonathan did not bother to supervise or monitor the activities of the people in his cabinet that is why they rubbished his administration with corrupt practices. He was ignorant of the monumental treasury heist that took place under him. In a meeting with President Buhari recently, it was gathered that the Bayelsa born politician was shocked when facts and figures were tabled before him about how corruption reigned supreme under his leadership. According to the report gathered from the private meeting, he was quoted to have said that he’s just realizing this corruption for the first time. Facts, however, are beginning to emerge about the presidential meeting, which was said to have been facilitated by the former Head of States, Abdusalam Abubakar, former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja was shocked to see how his aides milked the economy of the country dry. We gathered that the meeting was at the instance of the 2015 Elections Peace Committee, after former President, Jonathan complained that President Buhari was not sticking to the peace accord they signed. Jonathan was reported to have also sought for understanding on alleged corrupt practices and mismanagement of funds under his administration, with a source saying the former President claimed he was hearing about some of the graft allegations for the first time. The report however claimed that President Buhari reportedly insisted that all looted funds must be returned to the nation’s coffers, adding that the President also restated his pledge that Jonathan had nothing to fear at all. According to a source quoted by the report, the outcome of the meeting between Buhari and Jonathan formed the motive behind Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo’s declaration at the weekend that the target of the administration’s anti-corruption war was not Jonathan. The report further disclosed that the former President was not comfortable with the way Buhari moved against his ex-Chief Security Officer (CSO), ex-National Security Adviser (NSA) and some ministers, asking the Abdulsalami committee to prevail on Buhari not to rubbish him. Malok Jerry and Dele Ogunsakin didn’t waste much time to fire him back on reading this statement he made. Amazingly, the former president, GEJ has always been known to take leave of the truth. On so many occasions as president, he spoke from both sides of his mouth. At a campaign rally, he said stealing was not corruption. The case at hand now is so bad that even those he trusted who have come to him for succor are likely not to get the desired shelter because Mr. Jonathan has made it clear to them that everybody should now bear his father’s name whether you knew of corruption or not. A source said, “This man is always economical with the truth. When the allegations against former Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah broke, what did he do? What of those allegation against Diezani Allison-Madueke? Was it not Jonathan who allegedly blamed the House of Representatives of inviting Diezani too much? Was it not under his leadership Diezani took the House of Reps to court? Was it not same Jonathan who allegedly said stealing was no corruption? Where did he get the dollars with which he was bribing traditional rulers from? Lie has strength, but truth has endurance.” Another concerned citizen who were privy of this information said, “It’s so unfortunate to hear a chief executive of a country claiming he is just knowing if corruption perpetrated under his administration after someone’s else has taken over the office, which means he does not have a way of checking people he employed to work for him. Anyway, Law does not know ignorance he should be punished according to the law of the land. The issue on the loot should stand, because it will serve as a lesson those thinking in that direction.” https://nigeriacamera.net/didnt-know-corruption-much-former-president-goodluck-jonathan/

babapressy:Bros with the improver i use i get that quantity |
Holluwatarhyor:a bag of flour will give you between 100-102 loaves of 900g bread . Approximate weight is 92800g |
Omonigeriarere:if you don't have the idea i suggest you rent it out cos the business is bigggg. But if u still want to go into it i suggest u send me a Mail so that we can chat |
My bro, don't be deceived bakers (those who bake the bread) don't receive salaries but but they charge per bag. Here i pay #800 per bag. So if you produce 3 bags, its times #800. For you not to be cheated, you must know the quantity of loaves a bag produces, you must have idea of bread making or else you will find it difficult to cope in that business. Ask any question about the business. |
Although we've come to the end of the road still i can't let you go, it so natural... #Boys 2 men to dream team |
Op, did u say #59m for 1250 chairs and table? 59000000/1250=47200. So #47200 for a table and chair. Whao nigeria why yyyyyyyyyy? |
Kenechi1:The area where u have' bad' pitches are just 3, the reason is because of the nature of there soil. But if you look at where the league is coming from and what they have achieved so far you will know that there is improvement. Talking about crowd trouble, you and i know that its everywhere but except some little indications here and there i think its better. Now let me draw your attention to yesterday game. What do u think nigerians would have said had it been that our fans rushed to the pitch after the match? Now you see that the issue is everywhere. |
