aceyralph: This is nice. South-south thumbs up. No dulling, always rolling.
I think we should look at the name issue in this way. There is an organisation called Young Entrepreneur Service, Africa. Even though the name is age factored, it does not have age limit. The "Young" means that the organisation shall forever be in existence and the goal and vision will never die. It doesn't have age limit nor misplaced as a young people thing. Coming to YAN, it's how we define it that will really matter. To restrict it or not is our choice but let's consider embracing all men. Someone might have reached 50yrs and still may have not being able to publish a book; such person can have bright interest in YAN as an avenue to fulfill that dream. Would we ignore such person? Goodluck Jonathan can develop interest to publish his works in our books, would we restrict him just because he is over 40yrs? YAN will go far if we can be more embracing. I suggest
"Writers Icon of Nigeria" (WIN).
Gracias
'WIN' is an interesting acrony. But To settle all, i plead all to be more occupied with many other issues of moving forward. For the Age, its a take it or leave it. Now here is what am saying.
In Nigeria we have ANA with almost same objects...now the vibrancy and age limit brings out the vigorous difference. The Association admits nobody more than the age of 40, that is this association for you, if any member turns 41yrs he/she is designated an Associate member. An Associate member is either a group or organisation or an individual whose objectives are similar to those of the association but who is not ELIGIBLE for membership under any other CATEGORY. When we go for CAC registration, the name wil b settled, because CAC asks for 2 to 5 names and then gives us the AVAILABLE name. We stil lobby for YAN in as much as other names like WIN, SAN and CAN are going to be considered. the YOUNG is peculier to our difination, it as nothing to do with AGE. we can only admit 41yrs and above into Associate Member or as honorary Member. Meaning youths are at the war front. Let wait for the comprehensive constitution. My lecturer is following this thread. Up yAN.

sunical: Minutes of YAN South-South Meeting, August 11, 2012

Opening Prayer by Efose (Asst. Coordinator)
Minutes was taken by Happiness

The meeting was held at Kaydees Fast Food, Ugbowo, Benin City at 1pm. It started with an opening prayer by the Assistant Coordinator followed by introduction of attendees.

One of the members, Samuel, took time to explain the purpose of the meeting and the aim of the association. The name of the association was one of the issues discussed. A percentage of those in the meeting agreed to the name of the association, YAN (Young Authors of Nigeria), but one of the members, Felix, saw the name as not very good enough. His reasons were that the connotation “young” might mean limiting the association to just young people, which may give an impression to the outside world that the association is for little children. He saw no reason for the association to be age-restricted preventing a passionate writer aged 41 from joining the association. He further stated that for a new association, age restriction may not be the best. Samuel also supported the notion citing associations and contests with the name Young to be mostly restricted to the age range of 18 – 25. He brought up suggestions for the association – Guild of Nigerian Writers or Academy of Nigerian Writers.

Asst. Coordinator, Efose, then asked for a recommendation for the association’s name among the members present. Academy of Nigerian Writers was recommended.
Samuel talked about the membership fee for the association. He suggested N5000, also considering the fees of similar association. He said, should the name YAN be retained, members above 41 should be referred as Fellows or a more befitting name. And should we remove the age restriction and adopt the recommendation of the South-South, a lower membership fee for students should be considered.
Here are other suggestions brought up by members.

- That there should be an awareness of the existence of the association when it’s registered, as majority of writers are not aware of its existence. Such publicity or awareness could be done via the website, contests, media broadcast, Facebook, Twitter, and partnership with other Literary organizations.
- That Editors for all category of writing – Poetry, Fiction, etc. – should be elected among the Board Members, with the job of selecting the best works for publication.
- That there shouldn’t be Zonal Coordinators when the association is formed to avoid divisions and any form of sectionalism.
- That the association's Facebook page should be active than it is now. Every meeting held and decision reached should be posted on the page.
- A membership ID card or certificate of membership should be made available to members after registration.
- That the association should consider fixing a general meeting prior to the election of executives.

The meeting was attended by five members.
1. Efose I. (Asst. Coordinator)
2. Ebuka O.
3. Felix N.
4. Happiness O.
5. Samuel U.
wahoo that was cool. Now the main reason 4 diz pre_summit meetings is to show commitment. We are not discouraged by the number, but the vibe in the number. After 14th Christiana Eke should be briefing us. @dailynews inbox my email, so i connect to pioneer members to a forum, let go YAN.

aceyralph: meanwhile, lets keep rolling on. what i believe in is that we shall reach our vision but that is only if we take YAN as our business and work hard to sustain it. the job is not as easy as thought if we intend to capture National center-stage. any zone that has not conducted their meeting should do so; we need to start something and pave our ways. Dailynews i dont mind your ignorance of my references.......it's well like our brotheer will say.

DailyNews: We need to hold meetings via online with all active & passionate members in attendance to make meaningful & significant contributions.

When we finally decide on the platform to use for our pre-launching meetings, some of our major agendas should include & not limited to these:
1. inauguration of committees to handle the various aspects of the launching, viz. radio & tv publicity, newspaper publicity, campus flyers & banner publicity (institutional publicity).
2. CAC registration committee
3. website design & launching committee
4. Editorial committee (to collat members' short stories & poems for our first anthology, & to also screen the submitted manuscripts to ensure we publish only excellent write-ups)
5. Launching Planning Committee (to plan the entire launching, map out events to be carried out & how to go about it, decide on the form of entertainment we would need, entertainment, decide on the venue, date & time in liaison with other committees to ensure activities don't crash together. they will also decide on the budget for the launching, & how to raise the required fund to foot all arising bills)
6. Constitution Committee- to critically & carefully examine the constitution & make final corrections & amendments on the one we already have.

Each committee will need to sit down & research critically via real life analysis on the things they need to ensure we achieve the aim of setting up their own committee. They will come up with the total realistic amount needed to achieve the objective of their committee. Finally, each committee will then submit their exact cost analysis to the Launching Planning Committee for final execution.

How do you guys see the plan? Pls guys do bear with my inconsistency at times, always busy, but cannot be too busy to not have YAN at heart.

Our Ghana brother, we wanted extending to UK, USA, etc, as some folks contacted me at the onset but after a few correspondence, never heard from them again. Meanwhile, I believe your case wouldn't be like theirs? That said, you are gladly welcome, & it will be our pleasure to have our first international extension in Ghana, having in mind that Ghana is another literary-inclined nation like our beloved Nigerian nation. So get back to us if you can organize our extension there in Ghana. Goodmorning fellows!
Goodmoooooorning Uncle! I just hope we not heading for a life-time online meeting o. National meeting at least three times in two years, may not b online stuff o. It high time we had put online were emergency is. Good marning YANS.
LiteratureRe: Young Authors of Nigeria (YAN) -Join Now! by Emyo(m): 5:20am On Aug 01, 2012
He said it all.
DailyNews: The CAC from my own understanding when I & a brother registered a joint-company, will not cost less than a sixty thousand & not more than one twenty th. depending on the purpose & share value. though ours is different cos its gona come under NGO i guess. pls you guys should get concrete facts, or should I go ahead & get the real requirements & cost via my lawyer? on the issue of board of d, I don't think we will need zonal leadership after the official launch, that may not favour the efficiency of the leadership & effectiveness too. but the board will be selected from across the major geo-political zones in Nigeria, with equality & passion for excellence at heart. The official launching will involve huge amount of money, so lets plan it step by step so we don't miss out. now, what we need is a platform for conducting meeting whereby every member will be present at the same time, from wherever they are since we have at least met once & established a physical commitment. so guys come up with realistic & efficient platform for our online meetings where we can discuss a lot of issues concerning the launching & other vital issues. we really need fund, we need to finally elect our interim national leaders to kick off this vision & to handle the affairs for a probabtional period of say one year before an official election come next year.
i know Peaceworld has down some research on CAC registration, YAN falls under incoorporated trustee. I've also done my facts finding in lagos, i will soon establish one in abuja too. Finanlly my mind is put at ease, the zonal stuff wil definatly cos more harm than do good, it arki. Thank God for sunical, his a bless unto realistic ideas.
Now all revolves unto leadership again. Its time for election, sunical has offered to present a plateform. Unlike the first tempora coordinators appointed, this time, if you are interested you must send an email with office of chioce to naija.writersclub@gmail.com. I get back here next with all the list of offices to choose from.

sunical: But on the issue of decentralizing the executives across the zones, what about Zones where we don't have a member? How about Zones where our members sojourn around the country? Subj: Minutes of NC meetin
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE NORTH CENTRAL ZONE OF YOUNG AUTHORS OF NIGERIA(YAN) HELD AT THE MILLENIUM PARK, ABUJA ON THE 28TH OF JULY, 2012.
*Present:
Phoebe Ikechukwu-Zonal Cordinator
Kelechi Bamidela-Member
Olarewaju Odesomi-Member
Okechukwu Iweala-Guest
Luke Ikyaator-Zonal Secretary
*Introduction:
The meeting started at about 1:30pm. Drinks were served, with the Zonal Cordinator welcoming everybody, and said the reason for the meeting was to discuss issues related to the progress and success of the association(YAN).
*Matters Arising:
Members were of the opinion that the registeration of the association may cost less, depending on where the association would be registered, and that where money would bereally demanded may be in the legal actions to be taken in registering the association.
It was agreed that Peaceworld and the others who are experienced, should handle the aspect of the website and Christiana's account should be used for the time-being, until after the registeration of the association. Members also said powers have to be spread across each zone, contrary to what Sunical said about having one national executive and board of members. We also agreed on having one or two representatives to represent us when the need arises, becausse that makes everyone active, and carried along.
Deliberations were made on member registeration, and Luke countered the issues surrounding payments by new members only and said registeration should not be an optional thing, or based on first come. He concluded that if payments are to be made, no one must be exempted.
We all agreed on the name 'YAN',and also bought the idea of Chioma Orji, that members who turn 41years old should other bodies which would be an extension of the association.
The constitution was not available, so it was agreed that the constitution would be posted to our emails, then suggestions and ideas on the constitution be sent back.
We agreed that members who would represent North Central during the official launching would be appointed, but the registeration of the association should be the paramount thing now.
Members of the North Central disagreed on the idea of grammy/award nights(for now) and also said that 'a novel in 60days show' suggested by Dailynews should instead be 'a novel in 60days workshop/seminar..since it is anassociation of intellectuals, not entertainers.
It was also decided that we should not outrightly look out for sponsorship for now, but partnership where everyone(thecompany and YAN) has an equal say and which is much more respectable. We publish our anthology, and showcase to companies for partnership. Although sponsorship can come later, because right now, we do not have a genuine reason to deamand fo sponsorship.
Kelechi Bamidele who's had media experiences also suggested on pdf magazines, e-anthology/magazines which could be sent for partnership, aspeople are not really interested in hardcover writings, but anything online, and that we could attract the attention of thepublic more, if we start publishing our works online.
An idea came up on having whatwas termed 'YAN National OnlineMeeting', where we set a date and time for every member around Nigeria to meet in a social network like 2go, facebook chat, etc, and discuss, probably before the launching ofthe association because of the busy schedules of most members.
O-echukwu Iweala, encouraged us to imbibe good reading culture, and spend time in meditating about ourselves, and in the process, we discover that we are developed to the magnitude we should be. As a lecturer/poet, he talked so much about ways we could develop ourselves as writers and poets, among other things.
In the absence of any other matter, the zonal cordinator thanked members for their contributions and time.
Photo shots were taken, and themeeting ended at about 3:20pm.

Dis is like a pre-website to d main one, so i think our main focus is CAC, All fund are going dat way 4 now...i now ask how do we get somtin simple like dat and we not have effect on our CAC. i can c spammers, devil, pirates at work...i just pray we go wit a pace ahead of them. I love u all. Peaceworld u na my man le go yan.

Serious here are my post,
Emyo: Good morning ladies and gentlemen. As we wait for YAN dedicated website and the minute of North Central Zonal meeting, i glad to say we are moving in the right direction. I sent my friend; though not a member in lagos state to check in @ any CAC office to give me details on how to register properly. Now among the requirement are board of trustees. Meaning, we going to have YAN'S NATIONAL EXECUTIVES, b4 the registration. @south west and other zones that were'nt able to organise their zonal meetings, their inputs, ideas will be great and it wil b a plus to this association if their suggestion be sumbitted to naija.writersclub@gmail.com on or b4 14th of August. Hasty is not an entertaining word here, but i think God has given us this pace @ which we are going to maintain. Members and their zonal coordinators who are ready to be among YAN should try and send the token of 1000naire commitment fee to christiana eke's account on or b4 14th of August. National Executives will be democratically selected from within the members and their zonal coordinators who succesful organises a zonal meeting on or b4 14th of August. Preparation should be made, because the mistakes of our past wil not be repeated. The lobby email for anybody who dims him/her self fit of any national executive is naija.writersclub@gmail.com; if u dnt show interest by emailing nothing 4u. After 14th of August, Christy should be able to make the details of our YANS bank account statement public. Then Dailynews, wil estimate the proposed CAC expenses, if the cash is less, then all the National Executive Office will have a price tagged to it. Suggestion should be sent to naija.writersclub@gmail.com. I wil send an email to all the over 100 to 200 emails wit me...if u are an active member ingore it. Up Yans, up vibrant.

Peaceworld: please we need to be coordinated here...and Emyo, what's happening on the fourteenth? Please DailyNews is the final say here...as founder, he alone can designate National Dates here...this dictatorial swagger better stop...we're in a Democracy peeps...wink You can imagine there's no dedicated website yet, but Emyo is already talking about it...please its all good to show enthusiasm here, but everybody MUST BE CARRIED ALONG...Peeps, make una help me YAN this thing...na lie I talk? Make una help me put mouth for this issue...Emyo is always guilty of this...and don't think it's nice...this is getting way bigger than anybody, so we must be organised, Emyo... failure will knock on our doors if we don't thread carefully...again I ask, who designated the 14th for what? There are no National Execs yet so what is really happening? This association is no child's play...Sunical, my friend did this site and he's the one I've been telling DailyNews about...

http://taiagro.com/

ignore the links included in the package, just telling you about the smooth quality and the site's feel...this is why I think we should get him cuz haven't seen any other guy who does a better job than he does...please upload site links to good sites in your emails to me concerning the website...thank you...
what does this mean. Peaceworld get this straight, is it about the website? For sure! I never on diz say we've 1 witot leting ur friend do dat 4us, i said 'as we are waitin for our dedicated website....' haba mana! U wipped me so hard, for the date, 'all zonal meeting must b held on or b4 14th of August' what wrong with date? Talking about dictatorship! I don't do anything outside my realm. Am not just a c_o_o_di_na_tor (i just remember sunical) but the oil which YAN founder eats his yam, am his foot rest, that gives him the workload relief. Am sanctioned and called to order by him, whenever i post wrong tinz or go astra. My ideas or what u call dictatorial disposition are his objectives in action. His silence, is go on boy 2me. He qeurry me only by my email. Wake up peaceworl let keep YAN, dnt kil d spirit.
