FOURTEEN months after taking over the reins of power in Aso Villa, former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri has reminded Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of a statement credited to him countdown to the 2015 election, where he said “Jonathan was leading a visionless government.” Omokri, who took to his Facebook page yesterday, asked Vice President Osinbajo if he may now have seen that leading a nation like Nigeria was not easy, particularly given the state of the nation under the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Osinbajo was said to have made the scathing statement in a series of tweets via his verified Twitter handle @ProfOsinbajo on December 22, 2014. The Vice President referring to the Jonathan’s administration then, wrote: “Nigeria is great and her citizens give so much, yet get nothing in return from today’s inadequate and visionless leadership.” But in a flashback yesterday, Omokri wrote: “After a year in power, Professor Yemi Osinbajo may now see it is not easy to lead a nation. “Does he still maintain this accusation against Goodluck Jonathan he made last year? May I remind him that the two main achievements his boss (President Buhari) has celebrated in the last year are the Treasury Single Account and the commissioning of the Abuja-Kaduna fast rail. “Both of them were largely the hand work of the gentleman he called visionless. My prayer is that the Vice President should read Psalm 15. As a man of God, he should know the implication of that Psalm.” However, the Goodnews Bible version of Psalm 15:1-5 reads: “LORD, who may enter your Temple? Who may worship on Zion, your sacred hill? “Those who obey God in everything and always do what is right, whose words are true and sincere, and who do not slander others…” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/07/visionless-govt-reno-omokri-reminds-osinbajo-of-statement-against-jonathan/

The immediate past Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Friday stormed the headquarters of the Department of State Services, Abuja, to seek the arrest of the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, for his role in the alleged budget padding. In a tweet on his official Twitter handle, Jibrin said he was at the DSS headquarters as of 7.30pm on Friday to call for the arrest of Dogara and other members involved in the padding. He wrote, “Just arrived SSS HQ. The journey to get Speaker Dogara and other members of the corrupt group has begun!” Jibrin has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission regarding the alleged padding. Sources said the EFCC had acknowledged receipt of the petition. A source at the EFCC said, “We have just received a petition from Jibrin. We will definitely work on it.” This is just as the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), said the EFCC would investigate lawmakers involved in the alleged budget padding. Sagay said in an interview on Friday that it was possible that the level of corruption in the National Assembly was much higher than most Nigerians knew. He said the recent revelations and allegations were just a tip of the iceberg. Sagay said, “The whole saga reveals the degree of corruption in the country is mind-boggling. There is no exception in any sector of Nigeria. It is a pandemic disease that has turned the country rotten from top to bottom. So, it is very disturbing. “As for investigation, the matter will be taken to the EFCC and the EFCC will take it up. I don’t think the whole House should be investigated. We will have to start from somewhere and that is, if the House leadership or Jibrin takes it to the EFCC and the whole thing will start to unravel. So, we should brace ourselves for more shocks. I don’t know whether Nigeria can take more shocks, but we should brace ourselves.” Advertisement The senior advocate said he believed that budget padding had been going on for years. Sagay said the only reason why the fraud was being exposed was because of the friction between Jibrin and key members of the House. He added, “What I suspect is that this is not the first time. It has been going on for a long time, but it looks as if it is because things fell apart between them that everyone is exposing one another. Budget padding was going on as usual when they were getting along so, I don’t think it is anything new. “It is just that it was too audacious this time when Jibrin allegedly took away N60bn meant for Calabar-Lagos Railway and simply split it among projects in his own constituency and the constituencies of his friends. They thought they would get away with it, but fate caught up with them. So, the law will take its course.” Sagay said budget padding was an economic and financial crime as it had to do with the inflation of figures in the budget and the diversion of money meant for the generality of Nigerians. He said, “It is fraud, stealing and is a criminal offence. It is a financial and economic crime and the EFCC will look into it.” When contacted Special Adviser to the Attorney General of Federation and the Minister of Justice on Media and Publicity, Mr. Slihu Isah, said he was not aware of any directive issued by his boss for the investigation of the budget padding scam. Another source said, while the minister had shown interest in the case, he had yet to decide on exact step to take. A national newspaper had on Friday reported that the AGF had set up a panel to investigate allegations of padding in the National Assembly and ministries. According to the report, the panel is headed by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police. https://www.today.ng/news/national/159878/budget-padding-scandal-jibrin-storms-dss-office-seeks-dogaras-arrest

Well PDP National legal team just released this statement... RE: JUSTICE ABANG'S JUDGMENT: 28/7/2016 That judgment of Justice Abang is indeed, a still born baby. This is against the background of the judgment of the Federal Capital Territory high court nullifying the relevant section of the PDP constitution which previously allowed the Party's NEC to appoint a person in place of another until the end of the tenure originally prescribed for that other person. Sheriff was a product of that section. The legal effect of the earlier judgment is that Sheriff should have at best been National Chairman till the next PDP convention. Incidentally, that convention took place in port harcourt without any court order restraining same. The convention dissolved the Party's NEC & NWC. The court order secured by Sheriff before the convention was an injunction restraining the convention from electing persons into certain offices. The order did not restrain the convention from holding neither did it restrain the convention from dissolving PDP's NEC & NWC. That was where Sheriff's team shot itself on the foot. The convention has the powers to sack any organ of the party once it is properly convened as in this case. That is purely an internal matter within the party. Sheriff is clearly an irritant to democracy & would be duly tamed by the court of Appeal. He appears to be deliberately obstructing the main opposition party from settling down to the business of checking the ruling party's excesses to the detriment of the NIGERIAN people. Effective & constructive opposition would normally help the ruling party to review its policies & adjust same to meet the needs of the governed in the socio-political contract entered into between the government & the people by means of a general election predicated on certain electoral promises. This is what happens in in most democratic clime else where in the world. Justice Abang's judgment was largely predicted & would not stand superior judicial scrutiny. Even when it was obvious that the plaintiffs arranged legal representation for some of the defendants in the matter, the judge entered the arena by refusing genuine legal representation with apparent authority and decided which counsel of the contending lot should represent PDP. That was an injudicious exercise of discretion. PDP National Legal Team. |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Zoning Committee, on Tuesday in Abuja, released the zoning arrangements of the 21 available positions between the North and the South. The report was presented by Gov. Dave Umahi, who headed the Zoning Committee, to the party National Caretaker Committee, led by Ahmed Makarfi. The positions zoned to the North are: Deputy National Chairman 2, National Secretary, National Financial Secretary, National Publicity Secretary, National Auditor National Woman Leader. Deputy National Treasurer, Deputy National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Youth Leader, Deputy National Legal Adviser and Deputy National Secretary. The South got the positions of National Chairman, Deputy National Chairman 1, National Treasurer, National Legal Adviser, National Youth Leader and National Organising Secretary. Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Deputy National Woman Leader, Deputy National Auditor and Deputy National Financial Secretary, Mr. Umahi, while presenting his report, said: “After robust deliberations on proposals presented by members, the committee proposed that all positions should be keenly contested for among the major zones they are zoned to. “This will open the space and allow for full participation of members. “That the chairmanship of the party be zoned to the Southern zone bearing in mind that the presidential ticket of the party for 2019 was zoned to the Northern zone. “This is as was approved by the National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers on Saturday, May 21, 2016.” In his remarks, Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Ben Obi, who received the report on behalf of the chairman, commended the committee for timely completion of their assignment. He noted that even though the zoning committee was given seven days to submit its report, the report was submitted before the expiration of the one week given. “This is the new spirit in PDP. When you want to re-brand, your action must speak louder than your voice. “We assure that justice will be done to the submission, and at the end of the day, you will be happy that you’ve done for the party and for your country a good job.’’ http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/207573-pdp-zones-national-chairmanship-south.html
