Christianity EtcRe: Can A True Christian Be Actively Involved In Nigeria Politics As It Is Today? by Engr2016: 7:03pm On Jun 12, 2022
Again, I have been able to wisely and peacefully identify the second Jehovah Witness in this forum. You picked the bait. The fact that you Jehovah Witnesses can quote their own version of the bible does not mean you are right. Remember anyone can misquote the scriptures for his or her ulterior motive. Don't forget even the Devil himself quoted the scriptures while tempting JESUS CHRIST our LORD.

MaxInDHouse:
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm it's like most people are now waking up to the fact that only JWs are PRACTICING what Jesus taught.
The OP asked a question and directed it to true Christians so if you're so sure that only JWs are the ones backing up their views with what Jesus CHRIST said then something is wrong somewhere!

But i want to assure you that there are many here that aren't Jehovah's Witnesses but they've learned from experience that politics can never yield any positive results. That's why they're not in support of politics.

After the election try to calculate the total number of voters throughout Nigeria and compare to the population of Nigeria that's when you will get to know that it's not only JWs that doesn't believe in DEMOCRACY but it's only JWs that can use Jesus' words to back up their views! Luke 12:11-12

May you have PEACE! smiley

Please stop misquoting or misinterpreting the Bible. I have finally been able to deduce that you are very likely a Jehovah Witness unless you deny it. You said Jesus said people should not work for perishable bread and equate it to politics. That's wrong usage of the scriptures. For your info, the Bible never expects anyone to be idle or lazy. You have to work to earn a living. The Bible says he that does not work must not eat. 2Thess 3:10. In Matthew 20:24-28 you misquoted, JESUS never said His disciple should not be in government. Rather in was talking about how his disciples should behave or conduct themselves in their Christian fellowship or gathering. He was emphasizing that they shouldn't lord it over themselves i.e dominate other Christian brothers/sisters because they are all equal in Christ and must serve one another in humility. He was not referring to the generality of the public, unbelievers or non-disciples or politics.
Working to earn a living is not a sin unless you are trying to rewrite the Scriptures.
Kobojunkie:
Well, Jesus Christ, the one who you claim by mouth as your Saviour did in fact command His followers to stay away from, not just the politics of this world - Matthew 20 vs 24 - 28 - but also from working for perishable bread - John 6 vs 25 - 35 . undecided

So are you here saying you refuse to submit to and Obey the teachings(and commandments) of Jesus Christ, the one who you pretend is your savior on grounds that by doing so you will be mistaken as a member of the Churchian group tagged the JWs who avoid anything associated with governance or politics in general ? undecided

Only Jehovah Witnesses are known for avoiding anything associated with public governance or politics in general. So my people, be guided, you might be unnecessarily arguing this topic with Jehovah Witnesses without even noticing it.

First of all, are you a Christian or not? There are so many belief systems or doctrines many associate with Christianity today which are not part of biblical Christianity. So our belief systems or doctrines will definitely influence our line of thoughts. I don't know yours because GOD knows those who are His. Nevertheless, the biblical Christianity that I know teaches that we are the light of the world and salt of the earth. This implies we must influence the world positively to the glory of Christ until he returns the second time to establish His eternal kingdom. No persecution, hatred , terrorism etc will stop his Kingdom. Just be prepared all the time!

Kobojunkie:
Slavery and injustice existed in this world for hundreds of years because of Christians. So don't now pretend Christians weren't part of the problem to begin with.. undecided

Jesus Christ never called you to sit on any Throne in the world. He instead told you that though you are in this world , you are not of this world - Matthew 20 vs 20 - 28 :-\

Please , what profession or occupation are you currently into? Is it only Christians that are in that profession? If not, then by your current belief or argument, it means you too have been unequally yoked with the unbelievers in that profession/occupation/association. Mention one verse in the scriptures that forbid Christians from being rulers or leaders in a society. So governance should be left only to unbelievers while you obey all their commands? If idol worshippers become a governor or president or senators and enact strange laws for the land that favour their evil ways or even ban Christianity , will you be happy with that?

Bro, what you need to realise is that not all disciples will become an apostle or any member of the 5 fold ministry (pastor, prophet, evangelist or teacher) . These are explicit divine calling (not for everyone) in addition to being a disciple(true christian ) first. This category of Christians should not leave their calling to go into politics unless JESUS explicitly told you so for a specific assignment and this must be confirmed by other Spirit filled prophets. Even with that your initial divine calling must still stand. Jesus never picked all the 120 disciples to become apostles or prophets. He simply wanted others (non ministers) to represent Him well anywhere they are as ambassadors of his Kingdom and also preach the gospel to all creations as commanded in the ending of Matthew. Which means, whether you are an engineer, doctor, programmer, businessman, politician or tax collector, stand for Christ and live a godly life. Jesus never commanded anyone to avoid a particular occupation in itself (except if it is explicitly wrong e.g robbery, fraudster etc) . What he commanded is for us to repent. The only one that is wrong is for an already called minister to leave his ministry for the things of this world. E.g Demas. 2Tim 4:10 . But the only problem is that majority of Christians that go into politics and in fact every other areas of human endeavour failed to stand for God. The easily compromise and join them. We have them in banking, IT, business, education and virtually every area of human human endeavour. This is not peculiar to politics alone.

Kobojunkie:
1. Yes, we do. And the answer is No! A follower of Jesus Christ, one who lives in continuous submission to and obedience of the teachings( and commandments) of Jesus Christ ought not to work for perishable food aka daily bread, as commanded by Jesus Christ Himself in John 6 vs 25 - 33 undecided

2. I am afraid you delude your own self by pretending there exists some sort of separation in callings where Jesus Christ is concerned. There is no special divine callings separate from your regular born again Christian. Instead every single individual who believes in Jesus Christ is called to doing the exact same job, this by Jesus Christ, the one who calls all to Himself. And according to Jesus Christ, none of those who is called by Him is to rule over the others in much the same way as the leaders of the Gentiles aka politicians do - Matthew 20 vs 24 - 28. undecided

3. So because King James translated the first Bible to a version owned the state and church of England, the translation then widely advertised and used by English missionaries even in Africa, that somehow means King James was called by God and his translation of scripture endorsed by God? undecided

4. Wrong! The problem with the Nigerian Christian is you lot hold fast to the ways of this world this while pretending you do so for God's sake. You abandon God's Truth for the sake of the doctrines and traditions of men(and their churches/assemblies) all in your bid to attempt to hold hard that which is of this world while claiming you also have that which is of God. God is not an idiot. undecided
Christianity EtcRe: Can A True Christian Be Actively Involved In Nigeria Politics As It Is Today? by Engr2016: 12:56pm On Jun 12, 2022
Politics is just like other secular activities or occupations like engineering, medicine, business etc. Do you ever ask if a Christian can be an engineer, doctor , businessman etc? The right question should be : should a Prophet , Pastor, Preacher or any man of GOD leave his Divine calling or assignment to go into politics? The answer is a big No. Our Lord JESUS knew His assignment and purpose and that was why he avoid anything that could derail it. A regular born again christian (not a minister) can go into politics
provided he can stand for the truth and avoid comprising godly standards. There are several good examples like that in the bible. Don't forget that even the most popular bible version today the KJV was supported by King James of England about 400 years ago. Before that time, ordinary citizens were not allowed to have a copy of the Hebrew/Greek/Latin bible versions which were mainly accessible by the clerics and elites. Tell me how it would have been possible if the king was a pagan that hate the gospel. The scriptures itself affirms that when the righteous rule, the people rejoice and vice versa. The problem we have in Nigeria is because majority of Christians that represented us failed woefully in standing for the truth . They easily blend with the evil trend. They aren't as bold as Daniel, Josep, Esther etc. President Obasanjo, Jonathan and even VP Osinbajo are all Christians o. Did they represent us well? Well , you can answer it yourself. Remember, even the first president/ head of state that ever declared war in Nigeria is a supposed christian - Gen Gowon. Ironically, he even declared it on a fellow Christian region of the South East. At the end, millions of lives were lost for the purpose of national ego. Is national ego or unity more than love for God and mankind ? How can a Christian president watch millions perish in war just like that? I hope Gowon has repented sha. We Christians should stop blaming non- Christians. The problem is with us. Let's fix it first. Remember Jesus said we are the light of the world and salt of the earth.

Good points bro. If I may ask, which state is your friend from?

Salyass555:
Yess. Some people have no experience with Ptdf and some don’t make genuine research about these things. With ptdf you can only PRAY. My mate got this scholarship he doesn’t have any connect and his results are only average. After the interview he thought they won’t shortlist him because of his performance. Guess what? He received the success mail. So if you are destined for it this year no matter how bad your results you are getting it. There is no formula with ptdf.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 9:19pm On Jun 11, 2022
True! In addition to their recommendations, let us also remember that the interviewers also award their own marks in addition to the grading of the actual credentials. So you can see, the variables are plenty. This calls for our humility and the grace of the Lord Jesus .
tolaade1960:
Let's hold on for the final list.
The fact is that you must be first of all be recommended by the interviewers.

To select best candidates, gradings come in to play.

But we should not forget politics also do a lot .

Because in actual facts, uploaded credentials might not be a true reflection of each applicant. Hence, the reason for the interviews .

Yabani1122:
But will there be need to perform in the interview when your grades are things that are constant?? When we have them fully uploaded in our portal. Am also confused frm that statement "Selection will be based strictly on the performance in the interview"

Not disputing the fact that there is corruption in some Nigerian bureaus, however, come to think of it, how can a single stakeholder get up to 10 slots for himself when each state is limited to about 4 or 5 candidates? Will he spread the slots across several other states?

Salyass555:
Are you for real? Then lemme blow your mind. Do you know that a single stakeholder can get up to five slots? In fact I know one stake holder that got 10 slots last year.. if he decides to share it all to people from his state tell me how someone with 100% marks is going to get shortlisted? That means only his candidates are going from that state.
Do you also know that people that didn’t even register can get their hands on that slot and get selected ahead of one that registered ? Yess, you heard me ryt. I know one and he is in England as we speak.
So the issue of marks should be less of your worries. Lol
Even to that.. ask whoever you want to ask from ptdf admin.. recommendation by panelists is the most important selection criteria when it comes to merit selection. If you want get 80% of the marks someone with 50% and recommendation by his interview panel is going ahead of you.
I am not responding again.
Believe what you want to believe.

It's true, it's stated clearly that selection of winners will be dependent on the performance on actual interviews. Although I don't know if this criteria is the same for the 2020/2021 and the 2019/2020 winners. This year's process seem to be quite unique.

FatimaMK:
May be is you that lacked idea on the selection process for PTDF scholarship sir. I could remember PTDF briefed us on their selection process during our induction last three years. Those variables that are being discussed here are the factors one needs to worry about, because if you can cross them you don't have problem, God willing. The other factors are not somethings of worry.
And even the invitation mails that were sent to the applicants stated it clearly that selection is based purely on one performance in interview. Why wouldn't people worry about their interview performance? All other things are just formalities if you get your interview very well.
May we be among the successful applicants.

Hmmm! I have heard a story like this too from one of the current awardees. That's where the factor of Divine favour comes into play. But overall, 1st class candidates have always carry the biggest percentage of winners.

Giftega:
I know of a lady that won it last year. She had 2.1 and luckily for her, she met her undergraduate project supervisor on her interview panel. She wasn't even asked any questions! She just dropped her credentials and that was it...

Or perhaps, there was a public outcry against the neglect of 2:1 and 2:2 candidates last year. In my findings, I am yet to see any non-first class applicant that won it in 2020/2021 . Well, things may change this year.

FatimaMK:
That was then Oga. A very good o-level result is far better than first class this year. That is why everybody complain that the weight of o-level is too much. The determining factor is o-level now not class of degree.

Although, currently there is no explicit rule on this. Nevertheless, would it actually be worthwhile to do so? Can you predict if you will score straight A1s? Can you predict if the test center will have its result released or cancelled? Bro, there are many unpredictable variables involved. Unless you currently have straight C6s or lesser in your Olevel, you still have chances just like every other candidates. Your good SOP, first degree, certifications etc might beat others with good Olevels. Just leave everything to GOD.

I don't think that is what he meant. He is obviously referring to the time the Olevels were written before gaining admission to the university. Exam malpractices have been going on since time immemorial.

XtraSmooth404:
Are you saying 16 - 18yrs old preparing for WAEC cheat just so they can apply for PTDF in future shocked? Or you're saying people who have graduated from universities rewrite waec solely for PTDF? I believe each waec result has the exam year on it so that shou send a red flag signal to PTDF.

If the latter is the case, then such student must be dumb cos the same energy can get you other world class scholarships that don't even need a waec certificate.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 5:39pm On Jun 09, 2022
Great point. The conduct of examinations is stricter in universities than those of WAEC, GCE or NECO. I took a candidate to a center last year and she vividly told me several times that the invigilator / test center ( public school) requested and collected money from candiates to allow them cheat as they like. But she challenged the invigilator that this was morally wrong. Nevertheless majority of the candidates were still allowed to cheat as they like.

Liebermann:
That's a fallacy of composition that further buttresses my point. You had to go through a strict exam environment, does that mean everyone else did? There are miracle centers all over the country. How is it fair to assess your performance against these other candidates? There are cases of people specifically having others write O Levels for them to get high grades for this scholarship. Something that can be so easily manipulated shouldn't carry this much weight period.

Interviewers don't grade you based on what you write on your SOP or proposal. They do that based on how you verbally present and defend it. I wasn't even asked to present a hard copy. I'm sure same goes for a lot of people.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 4:42pm On Jun 09, 2022
I also agree too. But the UK seems to have more awards compared to FGM . This is perhaps to give room for the larger number of candidates that normally choose there.

babey543:
Lol. If O level were to be irrelevant, there is no how 2.2 graduates consistently win PTDF.
Also, many 2.1 graduates were not even shortlisted for interviews.

Just keep on praying.

Your state is the main deciding factor and also if you chose FGM or UK.

Some candidates with very low score will still win this PTDF scholarship especially in FGM category because of low competition in their state
as observed in the interview lists.

So it is all God's grace.

Later guys.
