Education / Canada To Reduce Admission Slots For Nigeria And Other Nations by Engr2016: 10:58pm On Jan 22 |
According to the Punch Newspaper report, the Canadian government has announced new plans to reduce the number of international students coming to study in the country. This may not be unconnected to the increasing pressure on housing costs and other inflation issues. However, this new policy will not take effect until later in the year. https://punchng.com/breaking-canada-to-reduce-admission-slots-for-nigerian-students-others/

Racoon: It depends on your perspective. I live in Canada and currently have a property in Nigeria and pension investments in the country as well. Before I left Naija, the official valuation of the property was ₦ 25,154,000 (i.e $74,526 CAD) while my pensions savings was ₦ 5,249,064 (i.e 15,552 CAD). However, because of the devaluation of the naira and the bad economy, the value of that property and pension savings is now about $36,867.56 CAD and $9,025.45 CAD respectively meaning that I have lost about 50% of my total investment in Nigeria just within 1 year. Abeg, reason am yourself if it still worth staying in such a country. 9 Likes 1 Share |

FreeStuffsNG: You are absolutley right. I was once a consultant to CBN and I can tell you for a fact that the staff usually benefit from travel allowances for travelling to Lagos on even mundane meetings that they could easily do via Zoom, Teams and other online meeting platforms. Secondly, most people don't even know that CBN has 2 headquarters. Abuja is their main headquarters while Lagos is the Headquarters extension unlike most other states that is just ordinary brances or regional branches. I have worked in both head offices too. The Lagos office is one of the largest and tallest high rise buildings in Marina, Lagos Island. 4 Likes |

Hello everyone. Could anyone help me with the question? Is medical examination also required for minors ( ages 4 to 10) who want to accompany a parent applying for SOWP? Also, has IRCC updated the POF for dependents of people applying for SOWP just like they recently announced for Study Permit applicants? Thanks ahead. |

Ayobamiaz:I was in a similar situation last year. If the rejection is about proof of funds alone (then you are quite lucky). How much is the total tuition? What is the duration of the course. Also, do you have sources of income or investment to back up the 14m? Is the 14m equal or more than the summation of your entire tuition fees, living expenses etc for the whole program? Lastly, when you are reapplying, you can try to pay the full tuition for 1 year in advance and convince the VO that you have additional accessible funds to support the rest of your program. I got my PPR just yesterday. 3 Likes |

Hello house. Please what is the procedure for submission of passport at the Canada VFS office in Lekki, Lagos? I have booked their appointment yesterday. Does it require booking for DHL, UPS etc separately for the movement of the passport or do I have to come back to the VFS office to pick it up physically after it has been stamped? I will appreciate feedback especially from anyone that have done it before. Thanks and regards. |

Hello everyone. Please thank God for me . After my refusal last year on 3rd November, I reapplied just last week Wednesday 3rd May 2023. Today I finally got answers to my prayers with PPR. Going to Alberta province for my 2nd MSc in Computer Science. I couldn't get a PhD admission with my current MSc in Information Technology. Glory to God. Thanks to my colleagues at Nairaland too. May God grant your requests too. 24 Likes 1 Share |

dtrixna01:How is this a discouragement? We are advising our brother on the best. No where did I even mention college. School refers to all institutions including polytechnics, universities, colleges etc. Besides there are many masters programs whose tuition fees are even less than half of that school he stated. E.g University of Saskatchewan, University of Lethbridge, University of Calgary etc total tuition for 2years are cheaper for the entire 2years of 4 semesters instead of his current 6 semesters. Nevertheless, if he has adequate funds that covers his current choice, he is free to go for it. 3 Likes 1 Share |

You can defer your admission till 2024. Then wait till 6 months before the expiration of the current passport to apply for a new International passport. However, I think you should reach out to any Nigeria Immigration Officer for an official recommendation. Normally if your passport is stolen or missing, or damaged, you don't have to wait till the date of expiration to get a new one but you will definitely pay more fees to get a new one. For instance, you will be required to pay for the flight tickets of the immigration officer who would accompany you to their office in Abuja if you are not based in the FCT. Replacement passports can only be issued in Abuja. |

Edmondvic: Based on my experience , you will have to wait until about 6 months before the current passport expires before you can apply for another passport unless it is lost, damaged etc. I was in a similar situation last year and the advice I got from the Nigerian Immigration Officer is that I have to wait until 6months before the passport will expire before I could apply for another passport. Applying for a 3 year study permit with a passport that will expire in 1 year is extremely risky. In fact, IRCC would not even allow it. 1 Like |

Hello Gurus in the house. Can you help me to confirm if my funding details below and in the screenshot is adequate this time around after my refusal last year due to inadequate funding/asset. Got an admission for a 2yr MSc program. The total tuition fee for the 1st year is 13,513 CAD while the second year is a smaller fee of just 4,300CAD. I have fully paid more than the 1st year tuition fee in advance (i.e 13,600 CAD). I also have additional 18,358 CAD in my bank accounts and 9,000 CAD guaranteed funding for 1st year from the university. I don't want to add the second year renewable funding for now since it has not been officially awarded. See screenshot below. Please is this adequate for me to reapply now? Thank you.
