EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 4:20pm On Jun 09, 2022
I also concur because it's possible for some candidates to have excellent Olevels and BSc grades and still be unfit for the actual industry and research fields. Historically some renowned scientists in Europe and America didn't perform well in their high schools or universities but they remarkably excelled in the field of research and innovations afterwards.

XtraSmooth404:
I don't have issues with the WAEC scores either, it's clear PTDF needs all-round scholar who has been consistent, and that involves assessing from secondary school (WAEC) till after university, plus interview performances. Having straight A's doesn't guarantee a win, same as having a first class.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 4:13pm On Jun 09, 2022
I guess this was for the PHD candidates . For the MSc candidates , will the total marks for BSc grade also be 15 ? Perhaps Fatima can clarify for us.

Liebermann:
This makes a lot more sense.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 2:23pm On Jun 09, 2022
Great point from Prof Libermmann . Methinks the reason might be due to the fact that the SOP, publications, certifications and actual interview itself is already built on top of your bachelor's and master's qualifications (i.e tertiary qualifications ) which is already about 70 marks in total. Hence, the likely reason why WAEC carries the remaining 30marks. Tertiary education determines your occupation and profession ( i.e 70% ) which is the main essense of the scholarship . But the game changer for some might be the WAEC result 30%. Let's hope in GOD Almighty for His grace to succeed in JESUS Name. Amen.

Liebermann:
O'Levels carrying this much weight is criminal given the level of exam malpractice in this country. Not to mention your first degree is more indicative of your level of understanding of your specific field and sets the foundation for further studies. I'm happy with my credentials overall but this really doesn't make any sense. It seems this criteria is correct given it corroborates most of the anecdotes we've heard on this thread about grading. I guess they know exactly what they're doing.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 1:17pm On Jun 09, 2022
Hmmmm. Thanks for the motivation. These days, I think most states are equally competitive o. It is not so easy to determine how competitive any state is anymore like that. Gone are the days that even the SW region especially Ekiti and Ondo States used to top in academic standards in Nigeria. For some years consistently now, even the SE have been topping in WAEC results more than the other Nigerian regions. Everything has changed. There are no more minnows in academics in Nigeria. Excellence is now widespread.

babey543:
You are welcome. Don't be scared.
I didn't even do particularly well to my standards in my interview and I got the scholarship probably due to my strong O level and my state wasn't competitive from the available statistics. So it is God's grace and not my power.

However, you must have a flawless score in a competitive state. Check the PTDF lists to know how competitive your state is.

Based on the analysis of our experienced awardees, scholars and other intelligent people here, one can clearly see that winning this award totally depend on GOD's grace even on top of your good academic grades. Those that have won it before, I really salute and respect you all. It's no mean feat at all. May such Divine Grace work for us too.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 12:37pm On Jun 09, 2022
But why is it that the Professors or Interviewers were reportedly adding the marks on physical paper as reported by some candidates here if the grading have already been done automatically by the software .
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 12:31pm On Jun 09, 2022
Hmmm! Now I see.
ExpertNLer:
LOL who said? all that the software needs to do is to take Maths + English and 3 highest grade entries to calculate a final score for the WAEC component. Lecturers are only there for verification and actual interviewing
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 12:29pm On Jun 09, 2022
Ehn ehn! This is interesting indeed ! But the other guy also said he had 2:1 in BSc but C grades in his O-level and he was shortlisted.

perrychemical:
I can confirm to you that O'level plays a significant factor in shorlisting candidates. I am also a past schorlar, but I got PTDF the period they normally conduct test to select Msc awardee. I have subsequently tried and encoraged my younger brother who had a very good grade in his first degree, but most of his O' level subjects were C, in fact he got mostly C5 and C6, and he was not shortlisted for all the three time he tried. But my wife has attemped twice in the year 2018, and this year included with second class lower division, 4A1 including Maths and English, B3 in one subject , 5 publications and many awards. She was always shortlisted. I am very sure she could not get the schorlaship in the year 2018, because she was told her proposal was not related to Oil and Gas. This year, she did her interview in Ibadan, with the same proposal, you can imagine even after the interview, they had to call her back to collect her number. she was also asked if she knows someone at PTDF. So, you can see that her O'level result alone is very tight even though she got 2:2, and of course her Msc was a merit.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 12:07pm On Jun 09, 2022
Wow ! Thanks a lot for your very detailed analysis. Congrats on your current scholarship. I pray that GOD favour us too this year in JESUS Name. Amen!

babey543:
Probably their SOP wasnt succint and they didnt have membership nor publications.

I advise you to write O level like how many people rewrote to have A,s and win PTDF like how many people did.

Everyone calculate your scores now

MSC SCORING CRITERIA

The marks of O level is the second-highest: 30 marks
A for 5 points. 5 times 6 is 30

SOP total of 50 marks: It is impossible to score 50 marks overall. Only candidates that get recommended score 50 marks.

First degree 10 marks: First class 10 marks

Membership and Publication combined together: 10 marks

2 marks for each. Ensure they are 5 in no order to get the full marks.

PHD SCORING CRITERIA

The marks of O level is the second-highest: 30 marks
A for 5 points. 5 times 6 is 30

Research Proposal total of 40 marks: It is impossible to score 40 marks overall. Only candidates that get recommended score 40 marks.

First degree 10 marks: First class 10 marks
Masters 10 marks: Distinction, 10 marks

Membership and Publication combined together: 10 marks

2 marks for each. Ensure they are 5 in no order to get the full marks.

Pray that there are not many guru in your state. If you chose F/G/M, you have high chance of winning as many gurus with great score chose UK

I am a current PTDF Scholar.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 11:56am On Jun 09, 2022
Yes bro. This confirms why I said O-level results were not used in the current arrangement of the shortlisted candidates. There are some intricate and nuanced considerations involved which we don't fully know yet.

panmol:
I have these exact qualifications. I was invited in 2020 and this year too.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 10:51am On Jun 09, 2022
Yes U are right, a software can easily filter out candidates based on certain criteria like that. However, since the required WAEC results varies for shortlisted candidates, there is no way PTDF can conveniently grade the O-levels results like that on the portal. That is why they depend on the professors and interviewers to do that at the centers directly.

babey543:
They also used O Level. Some of my freinds who graduated with 2.1 but with C parallel in O Levels were not invited.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 10:43am On Jun 09, 2022
Yes, I also think so too. It is easier for the software to arrange the candidates automatically based on the class of degree than the actual CGPA since universities use different grading scheme. Some use 4.0 scale (most US, UK and Canadian schools ), others use 5.0 scale (most Naija schools) while few use 7.0 scale e.g University of Ibadan . But note, this does not mean all 1st class or even 2: 1 candidates were shortlisted for the interview at the first place. Other nuanced factors could have also been used in the selection of the 8800 out of the original 26000 candidates.

Aremson14:
I'm not sure da used cgpa,,, only class of degree
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 9:26am On Jun 09, 2022
Bro, the current arrangement is irrespective of the course of study. But one thing I noticed is this: majority of those at the top list had 1st class in BSc or distinction in MSc. However, WAEC grade seem not to be used in that ranking since the subjects that could be used automatically on the portal varies except for English and Maths. This would have also altered the list automatically. Hence the reason for actual interview where actual grading and assessment are done. Let's just hope in GOD for His grace and favour no matter our current rankings.

Yabani1122:
But we didn't even consider the possibility of arranging the names according to the "COURSE OF STUDY" which might be arranged alphabetically, please is there any one who can verify this??

Alright boss not to prolong the argument but the intent was to correct the use of the word forensic.
Here's what I got from Oxford dictionary.

I don't think a network security engineer would agree that forensic is a generic term that could mean getting information to support an action/discourse. Simply put forensic analysis isn't what you'll use here (to know what criteria was used in the ordering) but Information-gathering.

Let's assume this whole argument is behind the curtain of non-existence smiley
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 1:16pm On Jun 07, 2022
Yes, the update button have been disabled since about 3 weeks ago. The best alternative for you now is to visit your nearest interview location if the old selected location is not accessible by you. At least, it is better than not attending the interview altogether. Don't give up bro.

Bee2419:
I tried updating this morning, but the update button is no longer there, did not know my test location was changed, what do I do
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 1:03pm On Jun 07, 2022
Bro, if you check my earlier comments, that's why I said in this case it is a positive event (i.e no crime was committed). Nevertheless, the term forensic is generic and could be applied to a lot of things but the central theme is getting evidence to support an action or discourse. In this case, certain evidence were sourced confidentially to support the fact that the arrangement of the candidates is based on BSc/MSc grades. Most times, people think Forensics pertains to Police investigations only but it is not true. Footprinting you mentioned is an aspects of digital forensics too just as it could be used in the areas of offensive security such as computer hacking. Webster dictionary essential explain the 3 meanings of forensic as shown in the screenshot below. The good thing is that I really admire Nairaland, all of us are learning from another on this platform everyday. Cheers!

toolazy:
Wrong. You used the word forensic wrongly. Such analysis are only necessary where there is a crime. Obviously none of the candidates have their names on the list because of that. What you did was simply footprinting/reconnaissance. Obviously the names published are part of public information. At best you look up their social media/public profiles lol.

EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 11:53am On Jun 07, 2022
Bro, this is one of my fields of specialization. There are digital footprints for everybody on the Internet. But I won't disclose the details publicly for confidentiality reasons. I won't joke with the Locard's Exchange Principle even though this scenario is a positive event. Nevertheless, let's try our best to depend on GOD for success at the end of the day.

toolazy:
Alright you two should stop using "forensic analysis"
Maybe just "analysis"
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 11:05am On Jun 07, 2022
This confirms my forensic analysis I mentioned earlier for the current arrangement of shortlisted candidates which is based on class of degree. However, like I said, everything will still change subject to order factors. The most important thing is Divine favour as no one knows exactly the specific grading criteria that will determine the eventual winners. What we know so far is the generic criteria. May GOD favour us in JESUS Name. Amen.

Dreldee:
I totally agree with you Man.
In my state the people topping the list na First class for BSc and distinction for MSc.
Note: portal marks was used for shortlist.

But it seems like for the interview they are doing remarking for all the categories.
Thus; 1-100 marks will be awarded by the panelists.
Say; WAEC, BSc, MSc, Membership = 60 marks while the Interview section: SOP/Proposal components= 40 marks.
And finally their recommendation of ur Proposal.
I stand to be corrected.
Shaa las las na Grace oo.

EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 8:18am On Jun 07, 2022
In addition, WAEC results can also swing the results in favour of anybody irrespective of the current ranking based on BSc grade. Some people had excellent grades in their Olevels.

KoolK:
I doubt....if not I no for be number 120 for my state. I no too bad like that. grin
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 8:15am On Jun 07, 2022
Bro, I know what I am saying. From my analysis, about 20% of those in the upper quartile are majorly 1st class. But that does not mean those in the remaining 80% cannot win the award. Remember, performances in the interviews can rearrange the entire list. Nobody should be proud at all. Only the grace of GOD will determine the eventual winners. This calls for humility.

KoolK:
I doubt....if not I no for be number 120 for my state. I no too bad like that. grin
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 8:01am On Jun 07, 2022
Based on the forensic examination I did on some samples in the list, I think the order is based on the class of BSc grade. i.e 1st Class , 2:1 etc.

tolaade1960:
It's not order of scoring , its order of application submission time. I have reason for this .
If u are to say order of scoring, it will be order of CGPA you entered but I doubt . That's only parameter that could be used for such a voluminous applications .

EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 3:20pm On Jun 04, 2022
Prof Lierbermann! That's why as humans we should learn not to be ethnocentric or bigoted in this modern world. A typical Nigerian will usually but wrongfully assume that Northerners are not as learned as their Southern counterparts. However, reading through your comments for the past 2 weeks or so have shown what sort of calibre your are. You are quite humble, articulate, sound , intelligent and persuasive in your engagements in this forum. I hope we will meet someday in greater pedestal of life. I also pray GOD will grant our heart desires in this competitive scholastic endeavour. The Christian Bible states the race is not to the swift neither is the battle to the strong but time and chance happens to them all. Anyone that wins at the day should be humble and grateful to GOD Almighty. Many are shortlisted but only few will be selected! May we be selected in JESUS Name! In the end, may all glory return to GOD!

Liebermann:
Well your SOP is not exclusive to what you write/type, its something they can deduce by asking questions so you don't necessarily have to submit a hard copy to them. At the end of the day you're right Engr, we are all at the mercy of providence.
EducationRe: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Engr2016: 2:44pm On Jun 04, 2022
Prof Liebermman! If this is true, irrespective of how good or bad our qualifications might be, only GOD can really determine who eventually gets the award at the end of the day. Because, overlooking things like SOP, publications , certifications by some panels or centers etc implies a lot.

Liebermann:
I think so. They don't have your SOP you present it to them and grade you based on it's contents and your defence of it.

Mind you, some panels may not even ask for you SOP. Some may collect it and not even look at it.
