You just wasted your money doing nothing . And for your information, the government is the only authorized body to issues permanent IDs that comes with a microchip that's link to your biodata and bank account. When the test for verification come ,na you go come tell us the story
False and this was government issued. They issued the NIN, the launched the platform to link it my sim cards, they offered the option for me to print it and anyone can verify it is original by scanning the code.

I saw this thread (https://www.nairaland.com/6641235/how-print-improved-nin-slip) last night and I wondered why the government can't be consistent for once. It is not just about getting Nigerians to link their NIN to their SIMs now but something else. I logged on to the portal (https://myportal.nimc.gov.ng/) this morning and saw some ridiculous things that only the Nigerian government is capable of attempting.

First, I was greeted with the picture below on the portal and I wondered why a National Commission tasked with regulating identity issues give me CREDITS (I have 30, according to my dashboard). Why would I need to purchase a SUBSCRIPTION from a government's portal; not just anyone but an IDENTITY COMMISSION PORTALhuh

https://petsquo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/1.png

As if that wasn't enough, I clicked through the subscription link only to find ridiculous tiers of subscriptions; from N100 to N1,000,000, all promising various degrees of credits. Is the government planning on charging Nigerians based on how their NIN QR codes or details are queried during verifications in banks, airports and in other places, particularly government establishmentshuh Why am I given 30 CREDITS if it doesn't matter or mean anything?

https://petsquo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/2.png

Not only that, but I also found out that there is a "PREMIUM NIN SLIP" section other than the "IMPROVED NIN SLIP". Although the "PREMIUM NIN SLIP" is currently unavailable, I am wondering why there is a class-play in the NIN slip.

https://petsquo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/3.png

The IMPROVED NIN costs N400 to download. However, I am somewhat convinced of what will likely play out.

1. The NIMC will discard the current slips and will most likely ask banks and other places where the ID is required to only honour the "IMPROVED NIN" or "PREMIUM NIN".
2. This will compel people to download for N400.
3. Say 50 million Nigerians pay N400 each to download the "IMPROVED NIN", this means the NIMC will be making N20 billion Naira from that alone. The number is a worst-case scenario since I anticipate that it will be mandated

MY QUESTIONS

1. Why is an identity commission bent on making money through the provision of NATIONAL IDs?
2. What is the purpose of the subscriptions its portal?
3. Why do Nigerians need NIMC CREDITS and why do we need to buy?
4. Why is there a PREMIUM NIN SLIPhuh
5. Why do I need to pay N400 for a virtual card I will have to print and laminate on my ownhuh
6. Isn't it the duty of the Commission to provide Nigerians with FREE National IDs?
7. Who approved of this useless ideahuh
8. Why do I have DEPENDENTS on my portal; implying I could share my subscriptions with themhuh
9. Are the law-making arms of government aware of this daylight Oyenusi stunt? (Not like they are useful anyways but I am not sure there was any discussion on NIMC creating a money-making portal in the legislature.)
10. What is the endgame of government; to sap Nigerians further through insane anti-people policies as always and further create a class divide through the ID cards we carry around?
Did you have answers to these questions 1 year after?

EducationHow I Got My Identity Card by engreddy(op):
HOW I GOT MY IDENTITY CARD

About December of 2020, the federal government launch the IMPROVED NIN SLIP AND MOBILE APP. There were some initial challenges and these were followed by usual condemnations by some Nigerians. Eventually they got the app right and our details correct in the application.

Yesterday, I decided to get the ID Card in a hard copy. I initially wanted it laminated but then decided to print it in plastic form.

All I needed to do was login to my NIMC APP, select the option to print NIN slip, token is generated by the app, I login to the payment platform within the app, paid N1200 for the PREMIUM NIN SLIP (there is another option of N400 for STANDARD NIN SLIP), after successfully paying using my bank master card, I could download the improved NIN slip in pdf (high resolution).

I went for the PREMIUM NIN SLIP (N1200) instead of the STANDARD NIN SLIP (N400) because it looks better. I took it for printing in plastic, paid 1k and about 30mins later, I'm walking out with my National Identity Card. Simple and easy, I didn't have to go to their office or wait anymore (actually, since 2013).

In my opinion, this option is good and benefit the govt, me and the guys in the street. The govt generated their revenue, I got my National Identity Card and the guy in the street got paid for his business. Everyone goes home getting what they wanted. When this digital ID Card was introduced by the govt, some were quick to complain, calling the govt confused among other words they could use, it is as if some of these people are so invested in the failure of the FG.

Some things in life needs time and patience to get to where we want it to be. Take a look at the internet or the mobile phone, it took time but eventually, we are where we are today. I think the FG should ensure that National Drivers Licenses goes digital and can be obtained through this same NIMC platform. They should also take payments/renewal for vehicle papers and insurance digital so vehicle owners would make their payments/renewal and get their documents, print them out without the hassle of visiting these offices.

Sometimes, most times you just need to have patience and resist the urge to condemn every little thing the FG does, unless you are sworn never to see anything good whatsoever in what they do. Like the e-naira, NIMC application had it challenges initially but after a while, it's been fixed and we can all use it easily. I am imagining the future where the e-naira would be exchanged with digital currencies of other countries, especially the digital yuan (I know the US Govt will never like it but it is about time the US dollars used as instrument of oppression and exporting inflation be sidelined)

Update:

So I had an agreement with the seller. I offered to keep the product while he returns $10 to me and he accepted. While not the outcome I wanted, at least I didn't lose all. To return the product would have cost me more than 20k naira.

Maybe I'll be able to have a fix for it in the future or recalibrate it. I don't know for now. Maybe it will be useful in some other way, the future will tell. But anyway, I'll just leave it at that.

Technology MarketMy Dilemma With Battery Capacity Tester by engreddy(op):
For more than 2 years now, I have been working blind in my 18650 battery power wall project. God knows I needed a battery capacity tester. So when I had a little money, I ordered for this as. I just wish I should have gone for Lii500, but I order for this as it could serve many purposes.

So after receiving the product, I tested it. The first I noticed about it was its inaccuracy in voltage readings. The manual said its 0.05v off, but at time, it was more than that. Then the real capacity test were bad.

In my years of building battery banks, I wouldn't say it's actual capacity but I could guess. So when I see readings being about 2 times lower than what I guess it should be, then it really disturb me.

The video reviews I saw on YouTube acknowledges that you may end up getting a bad product. One reviewer suggested getting about 3 or 4 (since they are cheaper compared to other capacity testers) so that if you one is bad, you throw it away. But here is the catch, I don't have the luxury of throwing away 40usd,waybill inclusive (about 20k) in this hard economy.

I have videos of the capacity test. Maybe I'll upload them to my YouTube channel and share the link.

The product is in dispute at the moment. I needed to return it and get full refund from the seller. But here is the real challenge, it seems the cost of sending it back is way higher than the cost I paid for the product waybill inclusive.

So I'm confused. What do you my tech guys think? Have you had similar experiences? How did you go about it? I wish this product was good, I wouldn't want to return it, but I cannot rely on it.

that's just it, so many things to buy. And one will still have to order from far away. Few that are selling parts here in 9ja will rip off somebody.
I have electrode though, I just need a handfull of powerful MOSFET to make it.
Soldering isn't good for those cells, unless you'll be very fast.
I have been soldering all my packs since and it's not funny. That's after I have finished salvaging the cells from dead laptop battery. It's not funny at all.

Oya, let's see.
Planning on making one also, though with microcontroller and MOSFET.

Let see the weld too.
wink
I'm thinking of getting a control board, even a. Welding electrode from Aliexpress for it. But I don't think I really need it now, besides, I can use the money for other purposes for now.

For now, as I have saved myself from the stress of soldering cells to make packs, I'll rather spend the money on battery capacity tester, purchase of more nickel strip etc.

My needs are much for now.

I am planning to use old stabiliser casing to make an enclosure for it. Though I'm in no hurry for now because of competing demand for funds. Meanwhile, I'll use it as it is though I acknowledge that having an enclosure for it will make it safe and good looking, besides, they will be reduced risk of electric shock.

This is the video of the weld

I'll post pictures in the evening after work. It was very easy and simple to build. Here are the list of parts I used.

1. Microwave Oven Transformer.
2. 2 yards of 16mm cable (multiple core or earth wire)
3. 4mm single core (using as my electrodes)
4. Microstroke switch
5. Wires

This morning, I woke up by 3am to test the weld on some cells and it was really good. I'll be using it for future battery pack projects and it will make my job really easy (goodbye to soldering of battery packs).
