How then does Timi Frank come to the conclusion that the judgement was illegal! If courts can seize funds belonging to sovereign countries, what makes it unconstitutional for them when passing judgements on states. adanny01: The problem is you are not looking at the main aim of the bill.
Tinubu is using textbook economics thinking it will play out exactly as the books have said. He did the same with subsidy, it backfired on Nigerians. He did again with forex, it exploded on our face. This one will annihilate us.
What he thinks is that the bill will cause states to sit up and economic growth will happen in every state just as textbooks analyze. But what will actually happen is state fighting states and tax paying organisations will be caught in between fight and transfer all the aggression on Nigerians once more increasing inflation. It will be bad for many companies as states will either force industries to locate factories in their state or risk hostile state laws limiting the companies supply chain. This means state borders will be manned by state tax agencies aim at frustrating targeted businesses that dont pay tax to them. This essentially means Nigerians will pay more to get products
Tinubu is an ideal textbook economist but has no understanding of real economics. I doubt if you can manage a 2 by 2 shop to be profitable |

Less than a week, I employed this boy o, to manage my gas filling retail business and POS. He displayed passion, initiative and experience about the gas filling business and handling of POS....so I just took the chance, we also speak same language. I've been acting nice and all but I think I now know why most Nigerian bosses are mean to their workers by default . Now from first cylinder we couldn't account for 10kg Second cylinder was started today by him......when I told him to calculate everything sold from first cylinder based on daily record book ....it felt short of 10kg . From the sales from second cylinder that started today, The account book does not tally with what is remitted through ATM/POS mode of payment .....I dint know this until I checked my Moniepoint acct as I got home now cos my phone was dead before I went to the shop this evening . Even the POS part of the business does not tally with the cash I gave him this morning for people who need cash withdrawal . I'm boiling right now realizing the boy had lied to me when balancing the account this night using the record book, only to get home and power my phone to see cash fell short of 23k in my monie point acct linked to the POS . . How do you handle boys who think they are smarter than you because theyve been in the business before? . And what are your experiences with dishonest workers in your business , especially this gas retail business or POS business . Osun had worst IGR in Southwest in 2023 -NBS
•Slipped from 16th to 20th on the IGR table
Osun State has slipped to the worst Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) performer in the Southwest region of Nigeria, according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
In 2023, Osun generated significantly less revenue than its Southwest counterparts, with Ekiti state, once at the bottom with N17billion, now surpassing Osun with an impressive N34 billion as against Osun's N27billion.
This decline is alarming, considering Osun's ranking as 16th in the country with an IGR of N24.6 billion in 2022 during the previous administration of ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
However, in the latest assessment, Osun has dropped to 20th position, fueling criticism from the opposition that the current administration is ineffective and hindering progress.
Recall the Senator Ademola Adeleke government was harshly criticised last year when some officials of the government were identified collecting the state revenue into their personal accounts. Imagine Anambra and Ekiti competing amongst themselves. This is ridiculous! The capital of the SE competing with the village of the SW! Rubbish |

Politics › Re: 10,000 Marketers May Shut Down Over Massive Drop, High Cost In Nigeria by Enice(m): 11:18am On Oct 27, 2024 |
beyep: Fuel consumption: 10,000 marketers may shut down over massive drop, high cost
As fuel consumption plummets nationwide due to soaring prices, oil marketers have expressed concerns over significant losses, with around 10,000 oil dealers about to shut down.
Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority indicate that fuel consumption dropped to 4.5 million litres per day in August 2024, down from 60 million litres per day in May 2023—a staggering 92 per cent decline.
The data also show that only 16 out of the 36 states received fuel from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in August, leading to widespread shortage.
Since President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy in May 2023, petrol prices have surged by about 488 per cent, rising from N175 to over N1,000 by October 2024
The continuous price hikes have strained the economy, driving up transport costs and fuelling inflation, as struggling Nigerians lament the hardship.
The situation has also forced many motorists to abandon their vehicles, opting instead for public transportation.
The national leadership of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria said the drop in fuel consumption had caused the association huge losses, adding that about 10,000 of its members were on the verge of shutting down.
Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, the PETROAN National Public Relations Officer, Dr Joseph Obele, said the cost of a truckload of PMS had moved from N7m to N47m in the last 16 months
Three days ago, there was a meeting at the national headquarters of PETROAN. At the meeting, there was, an indication that about 10,000 of our members would quit business in the next 45 days because their trading capital had been severely affected,” Obele stated.
He claimed that the affected marketers had a total staff strength of about one million
That was why we wrote a letter to Mr President, dated October 21, requesting a grant of N100bn to save the affected marketers’ businesses from shutting down in the next few weeks.”
The President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Maigandi, also confirmed that there had been a reduction in fuel consumption, adding that members of the union were equally affected.
He said, “There is a drop in consumption and the price of a truckload is higher now. So, we have reduced the quantity of fuel we buy.
For instance, someone who bought 10 trucks before can only buy eight now. So, we haven’t been getting the right quantity that we are supposed to get. We sell only the little quantities we get.”
The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers said the inability of oil marketers to buy products had resulted in job losses for truck drivers and petrol station workers in the country.
In an interview with our correspondent, the NUPENG Secretary-General, Mr Afolabi Olawale, said, “The economy is not smiling at all.
Many petrol station owners cannot even buy a single truckload, and this has affected our members. Those of them that are truck drivers hardly get loads to carry anymore. Many petrol stations have closed down and our members who are petrol station workers have lost their jobs
When asked to give the actual number of NUPENG members affected, Olawale said, “This is an unfolding situation. It’s evolving, so I may not be able to give you the actual number of people affected now because we have those in the informal and formal sectors.
We have people in the upstream, downstream, and midstream. But I don’t have the statistics right here with me to give you.
“Though everybody is affected, those in the downstream are the most affected. It affects those in the downstream sector directly because they are truck drivers, station workers, and the representatives of the marketers at different depots.”

Obele said the hike in fuel price had also blocked the cross-border racketeering of the product. You guys should stop all these one sided analysis. The main driving force of the commodity market is diesel which have been deregulated long ago. All vehicles above 6 tyres use diesel and they are the ones used in transportation of commodities. The present increase in commodity prices is due to FX and greed! One litre of PMS can take a vehicle a distance of 10km and above, Keke is over 20km but you see these transporters increasing fares as if tomorrow no dey! They want to charge N200 and above for a journey less than a km Na we dey do ourselves! |

You think Peter Obi, if INEC rightly declared him winner and he was given the handover notes months before swearing in like Tinubu, wouldn't know what to do?
Or you think he'd just open his mouth like Tinubu to say "subsidy is gone" without thinking? Even Ododo, Kogi State governor won't do that.

tchelete: Dear Bola Tinubu, there is no need to pay subsidies.
Since we refine crude oil domestically, simply sell discounted crude oil to Nigerian refineries like Dangote's.
You can sell crude at half the international price this will reduce cost of petroleum products.
Example, international cost of Brent crude is $80, if we sell at $40 to local refiners, we can get PMS at 500 without paying subsidies or compromising any factor of production.
This will enable them to refine and sell fuel at a more affordable price.
I am just saying because it's glaring that this man is being used to set Nigeria backwards.
Admin send this to front page, so that otellectuals can weigh in on it. Oga! This is Nigeria! Not the UK or US. Try this and even the crude will go missing! I'm not even talking about the pms. Not even a drop of pms produced will be found in stations. They will all be at the border and the price will be as high as if there was no subsidy. Once again! This is Nigeria where every man is a president, every man is a governor, every man knows all! |
