Government should introduce a permanent structure and means test people. Blanket payment to those who don’t need it is a waste of resources. Government must pay more attention to disabled people and test their disability before paying them. People should be asked to apply and interviewed for the payment. These will make the payment more transparent and equitable. It is very naive to just disburse money without these considerations in place.

It has more to do the government and welcoming people of Lagos. It has to do with security of lives and property being protected by progressive government of Lagos. It has to do with weather and Atlantic ocean. It has to do with population of Lagos. VDM cannot do anything about that. No nation on Earth has ever used income from diaspora (Current Account) to flip the position of it's BOP. It has never happened and it won't happen with Nigeria. So, the talk of inflation will come down and rhe value of Naira will improve won't happen based on increase in remittance from diaspora.

You know why? Cause only a producing economy can bring about that. A industrialized country - a category which Nigeria currently doesn't fall into.

Okay let us educate you further now. Nigeria has had a positive balance of payment of 5 trillion in last two years. This has not happened for over ten years. It is happening now, what you thought would never happen. We told you that you need to read and learn about the changes happening gradually.

Most of that $17 billion came through informal channels. And government had no access to most of that dollars falling in private hand. Very little amount of $200 million and below was coming through official means. That is changing now. Most Nigerians in diaspora are now choosing official channels as the naira value has been harmonised between official and black markets. This means more dollars is flowing into official channels to be used by government to increase forex reserves and stabilise the value of naira and even increase the value of naira as compared to dollars.

VAT is recorded on point of sale. Nigeria has no system of recording point of sale VAT deductions so it is false to say Lagos generates half of VAT in Nigeria.

Example: Someone will buy mtn recharge card in Aba, but the VAT will be credited to Lagos because MTN headquarters is in Lagos.

Reno Omokri should go for education. VAT is paid by the consumer, not by the company. The company is only acting as an agent to collect the VAT.

Its not only VAT. Lagos generates more than 35% of Nigeria’s GDP. Most of federal revenue apart from oil comes from Lagos. It is the commercial capital of Nigeria.
