Ahead of Friday’s supplementary election in some disputed local government areas in Imo State, the governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, has paid a visit to the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, for reconciliation. It was gathered that with the visit, Ohakim had allegedly gone to solicit Araraume’s support in the rerun on the affected areas as some of the affected councils are ACN’s strongholds. The governor was also said to have whipped some sentiment during their discussion that they should not allow an Orlu man to take power from Okigwe, the zone where Ohakim and Araraume hail from. He also told him that the Imo State Charter of Equity favoured Okigwe to produce the governor till 2015 before the next zone would take its turn. Orlu is the dominant zone in Imo State, boasting 11 local governments of the state. There is also Owerri zone. Our correspondent learnt that Araraume, who initially did not want to see the governor, but later did based on appeal from his close friends, told Ohakim that his overtures came too late. It is believed in some quarters that the governor’s desperation to reconcile with his kinsman, whom he had allegedly dragged his name to mire, was due to the impressive performance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, and that if Araraume and the ACN should throw their weight behind him, it would break the ranks of Okorocha and the election would tilt to the governor’s side. Reacting to Ohakim’s visit, the Action Congress of Nigeria, Imo State, said that Araraume had the right to receive any visitor in his residence. |

From Beaf Those who live by the jaundiced word of Sahara Reporters and who pretend that FG and state level politics are the same wouldn't have my time of course. What other option do you have to Saharareporters? Thisday and Compass ofcourse or better still PM News ![]() Not holding brief for SR or any other anti-Buhari Media firm, I strongly believe that a Media outfit that takes the word straight from the mouth of INEC to serve it red hot, and apologizes anytime it errs is worthy of our collective trust. To me, as far as online media is concerned, after Reuters, it is saharareporters, (ofcourse Empowered Newswire is in coma) |

History time: Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was appointed Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Nigeria in July 2005, and returned as Deputy Governor in the April 2007 elections. He was sworn in as Governor on 20 May 2010, replacing former governor Namadi Sambo who had been sworn in as Vice President the day before. 1 Background 2 Civil Service career 3 Political career 4 References BackgroundYakowa was born on 1 December 1948 in Fadan Kagoma, Jema'a Local Government, Kaduna State. He attended St. Mary’s Secondary School, Fadan Kaje and St. John College, Kaduna, and then was admitted to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He graduated with a B. Sc (Social Sciences) in June 1972. Civil Service careerYakowa joined the Civil Service of North Central State, serving as Division Officer, Secretary in the Military Governor’s Office, and Local Government Sole Administrator. He rose to Permanent Secretary in the Kaduna State civil service, heading the Ministries of Health, Works and Transport. In 1990, Yakowa transferred to the Federal Civil Service until the administration of General Sani Abacha appointed him Commissioner in Kaduna State from 1994 to 1997. Returning to the Federal Civil Service after this posting, he was Director Joint Services at the Ministry of Defense from February 1997 to August 1998, and then a Director at the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development until 14 June 1999, when he was appointed Permanent Secretary and retired. Political career :Yakowa worked for the Ahmed Makarfi campaign organization in 2003, helping Governor Makarfi get reelected. He was also chairman of the Rivers State Screening Committee for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in 2003. Yakowa was appointed Secretary to the Government of Kaduna State in September 2003. He was appointed Deputy Governor of Kaduna State in July 2005, replacing Stephen Shekari, who had died on July 10. In December 2006 he was a contender to be PDP candidate for governor of Kaduna State, but lost out to Namadi Sambo. Yakowa ran for deputy governor with Sambo running for governor. In December 2009 Yakowa denied claims that state administration was marginalizing Southern Kaduna. He said statements to that effect were "bizarre and mischievous" and said the government was making special efforts to provide social amenities in the area. A southerner himself, he called on the people of the region to stop agitating for a southern governor candidate in the 2011 elections, but to help governor Namadi Sambo gain a second term, and wait for 2015 to get a southern governor. In May 2010 there were rumors that President Goodluck Jonathan would nominate Kaduna State governor Namadi Sambo as his Vice President, which would cause Yakowa to become governor. If so, he would be the first person from Southern Kaduna and first Christian to become governor in the state, an innovation to which some Northern leaders objected. The rumors proved true and on 20 May 2010, the day after Sambo had become vice-president, Yakowa was sworn in as Kaduna governor. To reassure people in the ethnically and religiously mixed state, he said: "I am governor for all, irrespective of religious or tribal affiliation". |

Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was yesterday declared the winner of the governorship election in Kaduna State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He polled 1,134,319 votes out of the total 2,580,439 votes cast in a keenly contested election. The candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Haruna Sae’ed, came second with 1,133,564 votes. Announcing the result at the office of the electoral body last night amidst tight security, the chief returning officer, who is also the vice-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Mustapha Abdullahi, declared that, “Mr Yakowa, having polled the highest number of votes is, therefore, the duly elected governor of the state.” But opposition parties have rejected the result, calling for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state. In a combined press briefing, the candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Balarabe Musa; Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Sani Sha’aban; Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Haruna Sae’ed, and Muktar Aruwa of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), alleged massive irregularities by the PDP. According to them, the party acted in collaboration with INEC and security agencies to rig the election. “In line with the character of the PDP which is willing to perpetuate themselves in power by all means and at all costs, they found it very convenient to carry out their rigging. Reports from southern Kaduna indicate more than 90 percent voter turnout in the area, with the dead and displaced victims of the recent violence all voting, and they voted PDP,” the statement read. Responding to his victory, Mr Yakowa thanked the people for voting for him and asked all to join him in moving the state forward. He said that the victory was not for celebration but sober reflection on the post-election violence in the state. |
All I know is that what she did to Madam Ayoka Adebayor that made her declare results under tension and pressure was done to her. A respected Dr Anene was pressurised by 'unknown' forces to declare Dora a winner. But unlike Ayoka who later succumbed against her conscience, Anene followed his conscience by declaring the right results though from a hotel. Today Dr Anene the great has been justified just as Madam Ayoka has be crucified! Dav.e:No one is contesting the fact that either by crook or by hook, Jonathan has been declared the winner. However, No one should think Buhari has failed. Let us wait until 2015 to truly know who the eventual failures will be. It may be the 'theoritical' 22 million voters for Jonathan or Jonathan himself- That is if he fails to deliver the goods |

since the narrow-minded shallow-minded nigerians have decided to heap blames on buhari for all the mayhem done by hoodlums in the north, i think it will be wise for them also to blame buhari for the mayhems done in the south |

well, the difference btw PDP and ACN is that ACN are known for offering free education pay student fees for WAEC and NECO, also known for transformation of a state Just as it is in Lagos, PDP has been there 12yrs ago and ACN is not more than four years. In lagos fashola won not because he is in ACN but cause of his exemplary performance in his first four years, In Imo state change is needed Very urgent cause PDP is [s]about to ruin the state[/s]CORRECTION: HAS RUINED THE STATE |
