Jonathan, PDP leaders meeting deadlocked By Niyi Odebode, Olusola Fabiyi, Tunde Odesola and Olamilekan Lartey PUNCH Friday, 6 May 2011 View All (31) Comment(s) Post Comment Twitter Send to friend Share PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN There were indications on Thursday that President Goodluck Jonathan and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party have failed to agree on the zoning formula that would be adopted by the party in the next four years.
Investigations by our correspondents showed the Senate Presidency and the House speakership were the two key posts that made the meeting to hit a brickwall. By national precedence, the Senate President is the nation’s number three citizen while the speaker of the House of Representatives is the fourth.
Jonathan had summoned the PDP leaders to Obudu Ranch, Cross River State, over the constitution of his new cabinet as well as the sharing of other public and party offices.
“The South-East, it was gathered, pressed for the zoning of the speakership or the Senate presidency to it because of the impressive performance of the party in the area during the general elections.
Our correspondents also learnt that the South-West insisted that the speakership should remain in the zone, in spite of the fact that it has only four elected lawmakers in the House. Two of legislators are eligible to contest the post.
The South-West leaders, according to a source close to the meeting, argued that this would assist in reviving the party in the zone, where it was defeated by the Action Congress of Nigeria.
Investigations showed the North-Central and North-East were jostling for the Senate presidency to be zoned to them.
The current Senate President, David Mark, had hurriedly gone to Obudu on Wednesday following fresh threats to his position.
Mark was initially tipped to retain his position, which is tentatively zoned to the North-Central, where he hails from.
But the crisis over the zoning arrangement worsened when some senators-elect from the North-East indicated interest in the position.
Our source, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the outcome of the meeting said, “We have not come up with a zoning formula.
“There are some knotty issues, which we have not resolved. But I can assure you that we will come up with a zoning formula that will be acceptable to all our members.”
When contacted, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and chieftain of the party in the South-West, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, said the PDP’s zoning formula remained intact.
Babatope said that Jonathan and the ruling party would not shortchange the South-West in political appointments. He said, “The PDP nurses no ill-feeling against any zone. The PDP will come out with an arrangement that will suit all the zones.
“We, in the South-West, are unhappy about the electoral loss in the region but we are going to reclaim our states back. We have taken this path before in 1999 when the Alliance for Democracy won elections in the region.
“But in 2003, we took back the region. We will take back the region in the next general elections. The South-West PDP is awaiting the directive of the party. As a party replete with democrats, the PDP won’t alter the zoning formula.”
But a South-East leader, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said that the zone would insist on the position of the Senate presidency because it merited it.
Ezeife said there should be no debate about the matter because it would amount to diverting the course of justice. He said with the new political equation in which the South-South has the presidency and the North has the vice-presidency, the South-East should produce the senate president.
“The senate president should come from the South-East because it is logical, it is merited, it is natural and politically the right thing to do. All we need to do is to apply fairness to it. They have not given a reason why the senate president should come from the North, so it should to the South-East,” he argued.
Meanwhile, re-elected and newly elected members of the House of Representatives will on Friday (today) meet to decide on how to elect the new leadership of the House. Several meetings were said to have been held in Abuja in the past few days by different groups in the House on the matter.
Our correspondent learnt that today’s meeting which will take place under the aegis of Seventh Assembly Group, is the brain-child of Dr. Abdulmumin Jibril, a member-elect from Kiru Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State. It was also gathered that the newly elected members of the House decided to meet with the re-elected lawmakers to see if one of them could assume the position of speakership.
Two hundred and sixty out of the 360 members of the House will not resume with the new members when the Seventh Assembly of the lower arm of the National Assembly reconvened in June.
However, sources close to them said that if their ambition to produce the speaker fail due to the House rule that says that a first timer will not be allowed to assume the position(speakership), they will insist that they be allowed to freely choose their leaders. A copy of the letter inviting members to the meeting was sighted by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday.
The letter explained that, “The meeting will provide a platform for members-elect to establish acquaintance and cross fertile ideas emanating from various constituencies for the overall interest of the country.
“Furthermore, it will seek to calm frayed nerves of political opponents as a fallout of the 2011 general elections.
“It is our fervent desire that this forum will also serve as a prelude and pivot upon which the emergence of a creditable leadership for the House of Representatives will emerge.”
Jibril, who spoke with our correspondent, said though it was the prerogative of the members to chose who would lead them, they would still listen to their respective political parties on which zones of the country would produce the principal officers of the House.
He, however, said the members would discuss how to have the “right leadership for the House.”
Jibril said, “The meeting is aimed at polling all the newly elected members of the House together and discuss major issues affecting the country and also know ourselves better.” The Rep-elect, who is being touted as the likely deputy speaker if the office is zoned to the North-West, however, said he would allow the party to decide “on zoning formula before making any comment on it.” NA TODAY FOWL NYASH DEY SMELL? |

andrewnwa: [s]I TRICKED OWERRI ZONE - ROCHAS
In his usual uncanny attitude and arrogant disposition, Chief Rochas Okorocha has boasted of how he deceived and tricked the people of Owerri zone into voting him and establishing Orlu hegemony in Imo state.
Chief Okorocha unconsciously made this known to his close associates, while boasting how he bought over LG Chairmen from Orlu zone with N20 million each.
Chief Okorocha stated that with his feat Orlu zone will continue to rule Imo state especially as the zone that has an overwhelming number of LGAs in the state.
He maintained that he tricked Owerri zone by promising that he will rule for four years of one term and hand over to his Owerri born deputy, explaining that, it was why he did not pick his deputy from Okigwe zone which was the natural flair with Orlu Governorship, all things being equal.
The political trickster also stated that he was in the race to hand over power to Owerri zone but to assert Orlu hegemony and purported superiority over other zones of the state, adding that if elected he will use his position to enhance Orlu’s demand for Njaba state, while also fast tracking development of the Zone with state resources.
Chief Okorocha asserted that he has not come to retrieve power for Owerri zone but to use them to return power to Orlu zone, stressing that Owerri zone should take care of itself.
Our source who pleaded anonymity said Chief Okorocha promised Orlu people to continue from where Chief Achike Udenwa stopped, hence, the former Governor dumped Senator Araraume again, just like he did in 2007, to support Chief Rochas Okorocha.
He was quoted as saying “politics is a matter of interest and that Orlu Zone's interest was paramount and far above that of Owerri.
The wool has fallen off the eyes of many Owerri zone indigenes that have seen the deceit of Rochas. He said to some elders who have confronted him that, “this is Politics” and he intends to use all means necessary to get what he wants.
He has been failing in all his political ambitions but this time he has vowed to force himself inside government even if the state burns.[/s] SOURCE OF THIS RUBBISH!

Politics › Re: Rochas Okorocha A Man With An Evil Agenda by enyojo(f): 3:21pm On May 05, 2011 |
andrewnwa: [s]Rochas is a man known far and wide around the nation; this is due largely to his political pursuits since 1999 which has being unfruitful due to his incapacity. Rochas has aspired for different political positions from 1999 till date. The information below gives a concise explanation of his ‘wide goose chase’: In 1999, he contested for gubernatorial position under the platform of the PDP where he lost to the then Governor Achike Udenwa. Rochas Okorocha later contested for “President” in 2003 on the platform of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He later withdrew from the Presidential race and abandoned all the people who followed him into his then party ANPP, Ever since then, ANPP has remained comatose and its members more puzzled than ever. Again it is a notorious fact that Rochas Okorocha is on the same political template with Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume. What do I mean? Like Rochas Okorocha, Ifeanyi Araraume has jumped from one political party to another in the last 4 years. He jumped from PDP to AA(Action Alliance) after Obasanjo condemned his contention due to charges of murder forwarded against him which turned out to be true. Then letter on he moved to PDP and finally AC. This has made him an unstable political quantity in Nigeria who should not be taken serious. In 2003 Rochas Okorocha contested for senatorial position under PDP, in 2007 he contested for presidential position under PDP where he lost out to late Umaru Musa Yardua in the primarys. In 2011 he is now contesting for gubernatorial position under APGA despite the zoning agreement made by the elders of all the zone within the state in 1998. It is of evident reason that the party board of trustees (BOT) chairman Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, Ralph Uwazurike and Owelle Rochas Okorocha are all ‘birds of the same feather’ in the sense that they are trying to create a rift due to the fact that they all belong to the same Ogboni fraternity. It is also evident to note that during the existence of the Rochas foundation in 1999, a lot of well nurtured students who schooled there had died on the 18th of march 2001 due to the food poisoning, which was later named a mishap. But after series of investigation by police officials, a worker who worked there during the unfortunate incident name Chinwe Osuji, after being interrogated by the police said that “we were given instruction from our “oga rochas” to add food preservation…” The question is why will they add food preservation? Is food preservation not toxic to human health? This is an obvious indication that all this incidents hasn’t being a mishap, instead it is linked to the Ogboni fraternity which came to limelight recently after he was congratulated in the Ogboni confraternity site, www.reformedogboni.. Since 1999 till date Owelle Rocchas Okorocha has been contesting for different political offices but to no avail, this is an obvious case of a man without vision and purpose, perambulating from one political aspiration to another. The question now is, does Rochas Okorocha really have an aspiration? What does he want to offer to imolites been a member of the Ogboni fraternity? It has also been noted that Rochas Okorocha has an uncompleted hotel which hasn’t been completed due to the problem he has with sponsors funding his foundation. He wants the office to fund his uncompleted hotel located along Okigwe road in Owerri Imo state and his foundation. A man who cannot define his path is not fit to rule Imo state.[/s] ABEG GO BOOK YOUR BED SPACE FOR PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL FOR YABA |

This author is from Imo and very close to the government. Most of us close to Ohakim who have defended an indefensible policies and agenda have asked the man to change for long. But what can one do when the man does not listen nor give a damn on what anyone says about him?
On fair credit to Ohakim and the PDP, there is no candidate in this election that could defeat the PDP machinery in the state. What is happening and probably misplaced commentaries is that the people of Imo state are extremely very angry with Ohakim. The propagandas in the media that does not represent the conditions on the ground were mainly responsible. People outside Imo state know more about the state in the photo ups than those witnessing the reality on the ground. Some of us tried to discourage this “media government” but the advice felled into deaf ears.
One thing wrong about Nigeria media is they act like the politicians they cover. They are mostly biased and paid contributors to the dialogue. If it was not for Saharareporters, most of the things Nigerians in particular and the world in general knew about the state of Nigeria governments would never to be known.
A case in point is Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State. If Nigeria media have done what they did on April 26 or ought to have done, when they zeroed and mirrored Imo state, they would have known that this election was already over before it started. Author writes with full knowledge of what is happening inside the Government House. Anybody connected with Ohakim who reads this piece will agree totally.
Normally, the news from Imo ( whether print or video) are all stage managed, refurbished and hardly comes out proper. Contacting Nigeria media for a tipoff is like going to Nigeria police to report a crime, when for N20 the police will implicate the tipster. Author has no doubt that many of Ohakim’s friends and Cabinets are as disgusted with Ohakim just as the public are. People are wiser today and cannot be fooled like in the past thanks to the internet, which has made journals like Saharareporters bring the news at the door steps of every Nigerian with access to internet.
One thing that surprises many of us working with Ohakim is the commentaries in the media that the election was ought to be smooth for Ohakim. If you people had paid attention to Imo state in the past three years, you will limit your saliva. People in Imo knew that this election was over before it got started, not for Rochas but to any strong contender irrespective of party or zone. It shows the desperation to make a change irrespective if zone. Many of us inside the government circle talked about it and have feared losing the election all along. Instead the governor would rather travel to Dubai or South Africa than to stay home to do his constitutional duty.
The entrance of Rochas got all of us by surprise I must confess. We believed that Hope Uzodinma (PDP), Martin Agbaso (APGA) and ARARUME (ACN) would be the major contenders. Rochas was not factored as we insiders assumed he will run for President in 2015, not to win but to gain a ministerial or ambassadorial post. Too, he lacks the finances required to run for a successive governorship election. But choosing APGA was the wisest political decision of the decades, as APGA is known for noise making, oratory prowess and excitements- Ojukwu blood. If Rochas wins as predicted, he will loot equally because he wants to use state funds to facilitate his 2015 Presidential ambition. Ohakim had everything going for him, but he blew it. Ask any insider they will confirm this. What are Ohakim’s sins
1. Ohakim looted massively more than any government that ever was established in Nigeria, in terms of percentages and all pocked by himself, his family and one Commissioner of Local Government Kezie Ogaziechi, his former lawyer and writer of internet scam letters in their 419 days in Lagos. This was unlike Udenwa who looted and shared among his followers who now own the best houses, hotels and structures in Owerri. Let anyone go to New Owerri, Works Layout Estates, Aladinma Estate, Ikenegbu Estates and see Udenwa boys demonstrating wealth. The same is not for Ohakim. Majority of his boys can hardly fund their children’s education.
2. Ohakim picked random unprovoked and ambush style fights against most of his friends and allies, whom he suspected may appear to gain influence or relevance in Imo and cut them down- politically and financially. That is one major reason all the people fighting Ohakim are his former friends, allies, or clansmen .
3. Ohakim made the House of Assembly members to put many bad roads and infrastructural projects into the Imo state budgets, year after year. Then each House member will be asked to endorse his N4billion security vote, which he never adhered to. In many instances his security vote will exceed N6-7billion per year. Most of the excesses will be channeled into vigilante programs in the watchful eyes of the House. Then he will never perform on the projects inserted into the budgets. Many of these House members would go home to announce to their constituencies that this or that project was in the budget and will soon be commissioned. ALL turned out to be false and the House members licking their wounds silently. He will promise them to re-introduce next year, and again and again. Upon all these, the funds for all these projects in the budget were all collected by Ohakim and no HOUSE member has the guts to question Ohakim.
4. Ohakim no questioned received 100% support from PDP House of Assembly members, when Ohakim was a PPA governor. They gave him all the supports and legitimacy. He used them to fight his enemies, installed wasteful programs and promulgated laws designed to serve Ohakim only. By using the House of Assembly as errand house maids, and he assumed that the House was inept and he concluded that he could topple them anytime. When the Primary elections started Ohakim saw an opportunity to eliminate the House of Assembly since he knew that these House members either will be embarrassed in the various communities for not delivery and if they were allowed to come back will fight him since he misled them massively. It was on this, his political boys headed by Emma Ohakim his brother in August 2010 meeting concluded that eliminating the House of Assembly from return ticket will serve Ohakim best. Sure during the election, the House of Assembly members had neither money nor image to fight, and 17 out of 27 were eliminated by Ohakim. So how can anyone assume that these House members would not fight back?
5. He has very bad advisers, mouth diarrhea, disrespectful and deaf ears. What do you expect, when a man surrounded himself with rogues and selfish people called Special ADVISORS. Ohakim Commissioners were desk job Commissioners, except the LGA Commissioner a known 419ner. So how can a Commissioner deliver when that commissioner has nothing to show his people that he or she is in government? Many Commissioners cannot afford diesel to power their offices because funds were not made available to them. Even ink to print papers were lacking, many commissioners will type their documents at business centers or ask the beneficiary of the papers to take their letterhead to print and bring back for their signatures. Ask anyone that ever visited Ministries or works there and they will tell you how hot the offices are. The rogue SAs were all 419 people. Just name them and check their records its all in the open. People in Imo State and Commissioners all knew that the state is flat broke.
6. On Thursday April 28, 2011, as the anger over the losses were being deliberated at Emma Ohakim's office, he sent a text broadcast to all their supporters and said, “……….do or die Rochas will not be the governor of Imo state, Ohakim is leading.” Then one of the Special Advisors, Barr. Anumobi that was with him asked Emma do you think Rochas will probe Ohakim if he wins, Emma replied absolutely yes. Emma said just look at Rochas outburst in every event that the man would and could. Then the Special Advisor said, well, Former Military Administrator of Imo state -Zubairu burnt handover files, Udenwa burnt handover files before fully handing over to Ohakim at his residence and office, that Ohakim has the right to burn the handover files if he loses. Emma jokily said to him, we already got them packed ready to burn them. So it is on record that since the Military Administrator of Imo state Zubairu there were no records of handover files till date. How the Military Administrators, Evans Enwerem, Achike Udenwa used Imo state funds remain mysteries only found n the ashes. Imo state and security agents are forewarned that Ohakim has said they got all the files packed and ready to burn them. Ohakim’s wife has taken over many sensitive documents in the government House away from the prying eyes of the authorized workers, who normally control those files.
So including other sins individually committed by those around Ohakim, thugs, taskforce members and those named here, how could anyone be in doubt of his loss? Imo state has 27 Local Governments and 17 House members lost (representing 17 Local Governments were stopped at the Primary), how can Ohakim win in those 17 easily? In the result of INEC so far released, APGA has won 16 House of Assembly seats representing 16 Local governments, is there a surprise in this OHAKIMATICS?

CITATION ON OWELLE ROCHAS OKOROCHA (LLM, LLB, PGDM, ADPA, ADSLCM, DPA, FABS)
To present this man, these words of Oswald Sanders quickly come to mind; And I quote; When God wants to drill a man Thrill a man, and skill a man When God wants to mould a man to play the noblest part; When he yearns all his heart to create so great and bold a man that all the world shall be amazed, Watch his methods, Watch his ways, how he ruthlessly perfects whom he royally elects!
This great quote personifies this man whom am about to introduce.
Your Excellencies Ladies and Gentlemen Standing before you today to be honored:
Is a man of humble beginning, no one can ever believe that this man was once a street trader due to his poor family background. The amazing thing is that he is not ashamed of his poor past, in fact he treasures them.
Ladies and Gentlemen!
This man has been described by men in different ways:
To some he is a politician To some he is a philanthropist To some he is a business mogul Just recently the Honorable Minister for foreign Affairs Dr. Ojo Maduekwe described him as a magician President Olusegun Obasanjo once said that this man is known for trying to do the Impossible. Who really is this MAN? Ladies and Gentlemen

He grew up in Barkin Ladi Plateau state where his parent lived. He had his primary education at St. Joseph Primary School, Barkin Ladi, Jos from 1970 to 1976 Proceeded to JULADACO High School, Jos from 1976 – 1981 where he obtained his West African Examination Council certificate (WAEC) He holds a Diploma in public Administration from the University of Jos. Shakespeare in his words said; “some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them”.
Like most great men, he showed early signs of precocity and ingenuity.
Early in life, he imbibed the virtues of self-reliance, hard work and discipline and by strict application of these principles; he achieved phenomenal success in record time.
As a teacher, he taught at the St. marks Commercial College Zawan, and rose to the position of the Principal in the same school, while on part time studies at the University of Jos.
He later established the Kings commercial college in 1984 with the help of the late Gbom-Gwom Jos, Da. Dr. Fom Bot.
He left teaching and school management to set up the Rochas Group of Companies in 1987. In the management of his business, he brought to bear the same sense of discipline, commitment and faith in God. Today, the Rochas Group is a blue conglomerate with interests spanning the areas of real estate, construction, commerce, Hospitality, pharmaceuticals, finance, aviation and banking.
As a peace maker, he founded the National Peace foundation to afford leaders the opportunity to meet and interact for the purpose of peace and progress in our dear nation.
This great man standing before you once said and I quote; “I hate injustice, I hate poverty, and any effort to prevent it should never be discouraged”.
As he often says “let us talk more of the things that unite us and speak less of the evils that separate us”.
As a politician, this great friend of the poor made his debut in politics when he contested and won election as a member of the National constitutional conference in 1994. As one of the youngest members of the Conference, representing Ideato North / South Federal Constituency, his vibrancy and brilliant contributions to the making of the Nigerian Constitution remains a source of inspiration to his generation and all Nigerian youth.
He was later appointed Commissioner of the Federal Character Commission. This became another platform for the pursuit of his well-known campaign for peace, unity, justice and equity. Today, his imprimatur remains significant in the formulation of the policy of the Federal Character in Nigeria.
He was also appointed the Chairman of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA)
Though his Political life has been that of mixed feelings, but he has remained dogged and resolute in the pursuit of his political career.
The first anchor of his sojourn in partisan politics was the then United Nigeria Congress Party of which he was a founding member and principal financier. But that dispensation was short-lived and when the ban on politics was lifted to usher in the 3rd Republic, he teamed up with other distinguished Nigerians to found what is today Africa’s biggest political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A bridge between the old and young generation, he became the National Chairman of Youth Mobilization of the PDP. And his outstanding performance in that capacity, contributed immensely to the spread and strength of the PDP, as it is known today.
In the build up to the 4th Republic, He contested election as Governor of Imo state in 1999, the victory still remains a mirage to all Imo sons and daughters. He later yielded to the strident national call to run for the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which he did on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). His entrance brought an uncommon vibrancy and organizational efficiency that revived the hitherto comatose ANPP from a weak opposition to a strong and viable contender for political leadership of the country.
He was later invited to join the Federal Cabinet by President Olusegun Obasanjo, in recognition of his value and his contributions to national development. On assumption of official duties, he turned the once dormant and unattractive office of the Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Party Relations into the most vibrant and the most effective political office in the land.
He ran a presidential campaign that has been locally and internationally acclaimed as unique, innovative and edifying both in form and substance. The issues and grassroots oriented nature of his campaign brought presidential campaigns back to the table of national discourse. The colors that attended his nation-wide campaign tours brought back to Nigerians beautiful memories of the days of great politicians like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. K. O. Mbadiwe.
In the run-up to the 2007 PDP presidential primaries, this great politician reunited with the PDP a month to the primaries and made history as he emerged runner-up to President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
As a philanthropist Due to his humble beginnings and his Christian faith, he is unconditionally committed to alleviating the plight of the less privileged in society as a basis for economic emancipation and social justice. In fulfillment of this, he established the Rochas Foundation devoted to catering for the needs of the disabled, the poor and less privileged in society. Till today, the Rochas Foundation provides materials, educational and medical sponsorship for the less privileged.
An ardent believer in the ability of man to determine his destiny, Rochas Okorocha believes that with hard work, faith in God, honesty and objective planning, all good things are possible and his life has been a fitting testimony to this belief. As he often says and I quote; “I see injustice and I ask why not justice; I see poverty and I ask why not affluence; I see the less privileged and I say why not Rochas Foundation; I see indigent children unable to acquire education and I say why not Rochas Foundation Colleges”. In pursuit of this vision, he established the Rochas Foundation Colleges, a comprehensive free secondary educational institution that offers free tuition, boarding, feeding, transportation and Medicare to over 3000 Nigerian children of the less privileged.
He is a holder of numerous titles from communities and associations within and outside the country in appreciation of his service to humanity.
He was conferred with the dual traditional titles of “OWELLE NDI IGBO and DAN JEKAN SOKOTO” in a unique and unprecedented ceremony by the body of traditional rulers of the South-East and the North led by the Chairman of the South-East Forum of Traditional Rulers, Eze Dr. Ezo Ukandu JP and the late Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido (CFR). He is also the OMORODUN OF YORUBALAND, the OKALA OF EHIE, TALBAN GWAGWALADA and UBAN TALAKAWA.
A devout and fervent Christian, he is happily married with six children 3 boys and 3 girls outside his many adopted children. A man who believes that no matter the height, he has attained in life, his greatest joy is in identifying with his family, his roots, the poor and the less privileged in our society. A man reserved by God for the right moment to lead his people to the Promise Land.
