Igbo political leaders should cover their face in shame for not been able to protect their own. David Mark completed 4 yrs as senate president but Igbo produce 4 in 4 years. Shame!! they will produce more than 4 PDP chairmen in one year. Great Nation Great Igbo what a shame.

It’s a recurring think with these Igbo politicians. Everytime, they castigate their own while other tribes try to white wash theirs. Every one now regards them as unserious people, and this will definitely affect in future elections. Every tribe has at least one man standing, who is standing for Igbp cause?

[b]Although President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has kept millions of children at home to allow for voter registration in schools, the president’s two children and those of other affluent citizens are attending school uninterrupted. The elite school these children attend, the American International School, Abuja, is in full session. The Federal Ministry of Education had on January 6, ordered all schools to postpone their resumption date until February 4. The American International School, Abuja - which counts among its pupils and students children of prominent senators, ministers, governors, and even the president - resumed on January 10 and has remained open ever since, running a normal school programme.

A reliable source at the school, who would like to remain unnamed, confirmed to NEXT that the school, which runs an American system of education, is attended by the children of high-ranking government officials and politicians, many of whom are active members of its Parent-Teacher Association.

According to the source, who is a staff member of the school, “This is an American school but I don’t think it is enough reason for them to disobey [a] government order. I see it as an embarrassment. Maybe it is because all the teachers are foreign and they are sure that the school will not be used for voter registration.

“The school fees range from between N600,000 to N4 million, and no parent will pay that much and see their children at home during [a] normal school session for any reason. National Assembly members, ministers and even the president’s children are here. The two of the president’s children are in primary school in this school.”

Business as usual

When NEXT visited the school last Friday, students were seen playing on the school’s playground. Yesterday afternoon, parents and guardians were seen driving in to pick up their children and wards after a full day of school activities. The school’s gates, which are usually shut with to-and-fro traffic closely monitored during school hours, were wide open.

Efforts to get a response from school authorities on why the government’s directive had been ignored did not yield any results.

Amy Uzoewulu, the school’s director, in an email response to NEXT, said: “We are not authorised to communicate with the press unless we have approval from the president of the board of governors.”

When NEXT asked her to pass the message to the president of the board, she promised to do so but then replied with another email, directing us to send our enquiry to the American Embassy in Abuja, revealing a hitherto unknown formal link to the American Embassy. The school is a private institution, and it is not clear if the American government is a shareholder in the enterprise, but Ms. Uzoewulu was clear in her response.

“Please forward your inquiry to Peter Claussen, Public Affairs, U.S. Embassy Abuja,” she wrote.

At press time, Mr. Claussen had not responsed to the email enquiry NEXT sent to him.

Voting centres

The federal government had announced that all primary and secondary schools in the country would be closed for over three weeks between January 7, 2011 and February 4, 2011 to allow for a more efficient voter’s registration exercise in the country.

It was revealed, however, that a number of private schools have successfully pressurised the government to allow them to open on Tuesday, January 18. It does not appear that a similar concession has been made for state-run schools. Investigations by NEXT showed that public school students were still earmarking January 31 for a return to school.

INEC’s decision

Kenneth Gbagi, minister of state for education, had stated that the original directive was to all public and private schools in Nigeria, adding that the move was initiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“We acceded to the request of INEC,” he said. “INEC actually wrote a letter to us requesting that we shift the resumption date from 7th of January to 4th of February.”

The schools, he said, would be closed because many schools would be used as registration centres nationwide.

“We don’t want interference of our children with visitors in that critical period. You know the government and people of this country place a lot of premium on the issue of election and everything will be done to make sure we do not have excuse for Nigerians regarding that election. As a result, we have directed that all schools within the country, both private and public, remain closed. Resumption date will now be in February 2011,” he said.

Sanctions

Spokesperson for the ministry of education, Peter Obidiegwu, in a telephone interview, said that any school that disobeyed the resumption date directive was doing so at its own risk.

“That some are in session brings to light the fact that they have no regard for the law,” he said. “It doesn’t speak well of them as a diplomatic entity.”

Further investigations revealed that when another private school in Abuja, Regent Schools in Maitama, attempted to reopen on Monday, there was a swift directive from the ministry of education to the school to close or risk having its licence withdrawn.

However, one week after flouting the government’s order, it appears that no similar action has been taken against the American International School, Abuja.[/b]

Prior to this time, I was in the school of thought that believed that Late Funsho William legitimately floored you in your first governorship contest with him. Although you were a better politician than him, he was a better person than you. This in my view then was hinged on the fact that while he was determined to ride Lagos state of Thuggery and ‘Ogberoism’ to make Lagos the safest spot in Nigeria, you on the other side identified with Thugs and “Agberos” and at a point you said you were one. These unscrupulous boys made you Governor. This was my view then but like I said, I had to change my views when I saw your great contributions to the state. Any frank person will know that you have transcended from the Asiwaju of Lagos into the Asiwaju of Yoruba-land in the light of the take-over of your ‘boys’ of the south-west states.
The main kernel of this letter is about the recent happenings in the south-west come Nigeria.
IKORODU BY-ELECTION
The state of Lagos witnessed a protest vote for a PDP candidate in the recent State Assembly by-election at Ikorodu. Your party raised an alarm that it was rigged but everyone in Lagos will disagree with ACN on that point. The truth is that your party won in Lagos in 2007 simply because Lagosians gave a protest vote against the PDP. The reasons were that Obasanjo terrorized Lagos, “reduced” their population, withheld their LG pay, unidentified people killed Funsho William, the denied his Widow their ticket after winning primaries, finally they imposed a violent young man as their candidate. In response to all these evils, Lagosians voted en mass against the PDP. Despite the fact that Jimi Agbaje was upper most on their minds, your man Fashola won. To the surprise of the entire world, this unassuming Fashola transformed Lagos within a short period. Reports even have it that more roads where built in Lagos in the past 3 years than in the whole of Ghana for that same period! I am from Kogi and have longed for my Governor to undertake a 6-month Industrial Attachment under Fashola. No-one can contest the fact that the achievements of Fashola contributed to the fame that ACN has enjoyed so far than any other thing. But to the dismay of everyone, there are clear signs that you as a person Sir are against the return of Fashola to complete most of his projects. We know that it was your help that he emerged at first, however, it was other people who made you emerge at your own first time. I make bold to say that despite the fact that fashola’s men could not win a single seat at the last congresses, it will be very FATAL if your party fails to allow free and fair process which everyone know will throw up Fashola (on merit). If you twist the process and produce the Speaker or a Commissioner as it is gossiped, then ACN will witness a protest vote as it started at Ikorudu. 
BUHARI/TINUBU TICKET
There are wild and wide speculations that there has been a deadlock in your talks with CPC simply because your UNBENDABLE condition is that you Asiwaju must be his running mate. Now that the PDP is eating up itself from the centre to every state, the next best President that can win the heart of Nigerians must posses the following: (1). An anti-corruption fanatic (or lunatic we don’t care), (2) A very strong Security conscious person (3)   A person who is well grounded in Economics or has an Economic expert as Vice-president.
Buhari (on his own) has like 30-50% of these parameters. If he makes you Vee-Pee, the aggregate will drop to 25-35%. Ribadu has about 45-57% on his own merit. If either Buhari or Ribadu has a very Credible Running Mate who is well-grounded in economics (Nigeria is slipping into debts for God’s sake). At this state of our national growth, we don’t care where the pre and vp come from, Nigerians don’t care if Ribadu and Sanusi emerge (though a moslem/moslem, north/north ticket). But let it not be Buhari/Tinubu. The reason is simple: Buhari is already seen as an Islamic fanatic. A moslem/moslem ticket for Buhari in particular is fatal. Besides, People do not see you as a credible VP for this 2011 elections. They will rather stick to the Goodluck/Sambo than to risk a Buhari/Tinubu. Hopefully, if you continue your philanthropy of rice distribution with the same tenacity as Adedibu did, by 2015, you might become so powerful that you can field a Fashola as VP for another Candidate. If he doesn’t disappoint in his 2nd term(if allowed), then he might become President (if Igbos do not agree to step down for themselves as usual.

On a pragmatic note, I want believe that you understand the root of the nigerian problems. Corruption is not our problem, epileptic power supply isnt our problem, Bad roads are not our problem, Leadership is not our problem. You are surprised? OUR PROBLEM IS OUR THOUGHT-PROCESS, i.e Our Mindframe,. That alone is our albatross all others are THE SYMPTOMS. Correct the mindset of majority of Nigerians and Nigeria will become a Force to reckon with in the comity of Nations.
