Politics / Edo Apc Crisis: Oshiomole Must Go, Edo Apc Declares by Enzorazor: 8:27pm On Dec 16, 2019
Following the continued feud existing between APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomole and Godwin Obaseki, Edo state Governor, APC Edo state has declared that Adams Oshiomole who is already on suspension from the state’s APC must resign to forestall peace and unity in the APC ahead of the 2020 governorship election in the state.

Addressing a world press conference in Benin City at the party secretariat along Airport road, State Chairman of the party, Barr. Anselm Ojezua traced the genesis of the party’s crisis to the conduct of the party primaries ahead of the last general elections.

Barr. Ojezua stated that events have shown that there had been a grand plan to falsely create the impression of a crisis of leadership within the party in the state.

Ojezua said the plans were hatched and executed under the directive of Comrade Oshiomhole and executed through Oshiomhole’s acclaimed ‘infantry division’.

Ojezua said the Edo APC have concluded that Comrade Oshiomhole lacked the capacity, temperament and moral authority to lead the APC as National Chairman.

His words, “In any case, having been placed on suspension as member of the party, he has lost the legitimacy to act in any capacity in the party.

Ojezua said to prevent what happened in Zamfara state at the last election, which led to the fall of APC in that state and other states, Adams Oshiomole must resign.

Ojezua also denied news going round, about the APC Edo state issuing the party’s membership cards to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his followers.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Mesut Ozil Row: China Arsenal Fans Burnt Arsenal Jerseys by Enzorazor: 10:33am On Dec 16, 2019
According to theguardian, a US Newspaper, Chinese football fans have burned Arsenal football shirts and called on the club to fire star player Mesut Ozil after he publicly criticised China’s treatment of Muslims in Xinjiang.

On Friday, Özil, who is usually quiet on social media, posted a message on his Instagram profile describing Uighurs in the far north-western region of China as “warriors who resist persecution”.

Posting the words against the backdrop of the flag of the short-lived East Turkestan republic, an area that is now Chinese-controlled Xinjiang, he wrote: “[In China] Qurans are burned, mosques were closed down, Islamic theological schools, madrasas were banned, religious scholars were killed one by one. Despite all this, Muslims stay quiet.”

His comments have prompted a wave of anger in a country where Arsenal is hugely popular. Özil, who has more than 4 million followers on the Chinese microblog Weibo, is affectionately known as “272”, numbers that when pronounced sound like his name.

“Do you know how Arsenal fans in China have spent the last two days?” one former fan posted on his Instagram profile. “They are struggling to understand how the club and idol they once loved has turned out to be a rumourmonger. Of course, if you intend to attack China, you are as insignificant in our hearts as dirty ants.”

Another said: “As a Chinese football fan, I’m very disappointed. Why can’t you just focus on playing football? As a public figure, you should know what you can say, what you can do and be aware of the consequences.”

On Weibo, a fan posted a video of football shirts bearing Özil’s previous numbers lit on fire. Others said they too planned to burn their shirts, while some said they planned to trash theirs. Some posted photos of Arsenal shirts or Özil’s jersey and wrote: “How disappointing.”

Attempts over the weekend by Arsenal to distance itself from Özil’s comments failed to calm the situation, as fans said the midfielder should be fired. Several Chinese football fan sites have said they will stop posting news related to Özil, according to the Shanghai-based publication The Paper. A Chinese football simulation game said it would no longer produce Özil player roles or cards.

The footballer’s comments and use of the national flag of East Turkestan, now used by independence activists, have triggered condemnation from the Chinese state, underlining the possibility that the club or the Premier League could be punished in the same way the NBA and the Houston Rockets over general manager Daryl Morey’s support of anti-government protests in Hong Kong.

Censors blurred out images of the flag in Özil’s post while the state broadcasters CNN canceled a broadcast on Sunday of Arsenal’s Premier League game against Manchester City. State media have criticised Özil’s comments as “disappointing”. The Chinese Football Association told local media it was “outraged and disappointed”.

In a comment that has since been deleted, the editor of the Global Times, Hu Xijin, accused the footballer of essentially calling for global jihad against China. Asking Özil to provide examples of his allegations, Hu wrote: “This man is full of nonsense. Does he just want to encourage global jihad, using Xinjiang as an excuse?”

Politics / Sowore: The Revolutionary And Activism Lion, Zero To Hero - Ukpiebo Solomon by Enzorazor: 11:00am On Dec 15, 2019
Omoyele Sowore who has been battling the Government of Nigeria since he was arrested in August following his nationwide planned protest tagged "#RevolutionNow", which the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration in collaboration with the Department of State Services(DSS), a security apparatus viewed to be an act of " treasonable felony".

For 126 days, Sowore was in DSS custody before his release on December 6th after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of Federal High Court, Abuja fined the DSS #100,000 and gave the DSS barely 3 hours to free the Sahara Reporters Publisher and pro-democracy activist who contested for the office of the President in the February 23, 2019 general election under the auspices of the African Action Congress(AAC), a party founded by him in 2018.

However, after he was released on December 6th, he was to be available in court on December 7, along with his counsel team headed by SAN's Femi Falana and his Codefendant, Olawale Bakare, for the final verdict at the Abuja Federal High Court. As the proceeding was ongoing, some operatives of the DSS stormed the court heavily armed and chased the Judge away, halting the proceeding of a constitutional Federal High court of law, and forcefully rearresting Sowore and returned him back to their Abuja detention facility.

Findings from a friend who is a DSS operative said that the Federal Government is cautious of the next revolutionary actions Sowore will embark on if allowed to be freed after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu-led Federal High Court Abuja had adjourned the case to February 11, 2020. He further revealed that, the Federal Government has planned to tie him down with further security issues by attaching him to be one of the sponsors of Boko Haram security hiccups in the country and declare him to be a national security threat.

Sowore 48, has been a stronghold in students activism with full Aluta d Continua spirit. Before Sowore became the President of University of Lagos(Unilag) Student Union Government, in 1989 in his first year, he took part in student demonstrations protesting the conditions of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan of $120 million to be used for a Nigerian oil pipeline. Among the conditions of the IMF loan were to reduce the number of universities in the country from 28 to 5.

When he became Unilag SUG President in 1992, Sowore led 2,000 students in protest against the Nigerian government.

During the protests, the police started shooting and seven people killed. Sowore was arrested and tortured.

He was also involved in the demand for democratic government taking over military rule in June 12, 1993. This resulted in several arrests, detentions and life threatening treatment by government officials.

It is disturbing that in the thick of needless desperation, the federal government and its agencies could not manage Sowore and either by omission or commission, naively lionised a man, who could barely muster 20 thousand votes at the poll but has now become a major crisis on their hands. Sowore now gets mentioned in foreign media almost on a daily basis, so much that United States senators and congress members openly advance his cause.

The Federal Government led by Buhari in his feudalist, Autocratic and military patterned style of governance has failed to consciously considered the fact that, the World politics has been democratized in all its dealings as such, in dealing with lions and goal chasing advocates like Sowore, he has to do it peacefully and democratically to avoid further general public collaboration and international outcries.

Sowore has been there since June 12, 1993 with MKO Abiola and Tinubu, he understands the Political Geography and languages of Nigeria. Sowore has been made relevant and important to Nigerians, Africans and the International system outside the African Terrain.

This is why security must be circumspect in their handling of him. They mismanaged the whole situation ab initio, lionised him and now, they require wisdom going forward, particularly, by showing respect for the rule of law. And with the case now taken over by the AGF, perhaps, Nigerians will begin to see some sanity in its handling.

Sowore is now a Lion, and he cannot be broken now by any apparatuses, not even death want to embrace Comrade Omoyele Sowore right now with this huge international recognition.

Do not forget him as he coast to victory come 2023.

Politics / Sharia Law Should Be Taught In Nigerian Schools With Arabic Language — Cjn Tanko by Enzorazor: 10:09pm On Dec 11, 2019
Justice Ibrahim Tanko-Muhammad, Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, on Wednesday advocated for teaching of Sharia law in Nigerian universities in Arabic language.

He made the remark while declaring open the 20th Annual Judges Conference held at the Faculty of Law Moot Court, Kongo Campus of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The two-day conference was organised by the Centre for Islamic Legal Studies, CILS, ABU in collaboration with National Judicial Institute, NJI, Abuja.

The theme of the conference is: “Documentation of Contracts in Islamic Law: Procedure, Sample Precedents and Practice.”

The CJN, who was represented by Justice Muhammad Danjuma, Grand Khadi of Niger State, said the call became imperative in view of the importance of Arabic to Sharia legal system.

“The Sharia law should be taught in Arabic instead of English, there is no university in Nigeria that runs Sharia in Arabic, they all teach Sharia in English.

“So, academicians let’s also look into this issue, let’s try something, let’s have a Faculty of Sharia.”

Mr Tanko-Muhammad blamed Muslims for their lukewarm attitude towards moving the Sharia forward in Nigeria, advising that there should for a change of attitude to propel Sharia to certain level of advancement.

He recalled that since the issue of Sharia was introduced in Nigeria, there was no meaningful progress up to today, saying that “while others are moving, the Shari is not moving in this country.

“As we all know that there are sections of the constitution that allow the implementation of Sharia personal law and apart from that, we cannot do more than that.”

He said there was a section of the constitution that says: “Not less than three of Judges of the Court of Appeal should be learned with Sharia, as at that time the number of Justices of the Court of Appeal was limited.

“It comes to a time where the number of Justices of Court of Appeal was increased, but the number of Justices to be learned in Sharia is still limited to not less than three.

“We should have fight, because Muslims are there when they increased the number of the Justices, we say ok, since the number of Justices has been increased, we should also increase our number to be not less than 10 or five,” he advised.

This, according to him, will enable those Justices with Sharia background attend to issues that have to do with Islamic law.

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, ABU, Prof. Ibrahim Garba lauded the collaboration between CILS and NJI for providing a platform for a national discuss on core issues in Islamic jurisprudence.

Mr Garba, who was represented by the Dean, ABU School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Sani Abdullahi, assured the organisers that the management of the university identifies with the philosophy and objectives of the Annual Judges Conference and had fully thrown its weight behind it.

He said the university decided to do so largely due to its far-reaching significance for both the development of Islamic Legal Education as well as National Development.

“A university without public discuss or an avenue to discuss research findings or critical problems confronting society is not worth its name,” he argued.

Earlier, the Director, CILS, Prof. Muhammad Bello-Uthman said the main objective behind the conference was for the development of Sharia.

He recalled that in the last 20 years of organising the conference it had handled several areas of interest to Sharia including Islamic Criminal Justice, procedural matters, marriage and divorce, issues relating to children and recently Islamic financial legislation.

“The centre has found that there is a gap in the existing financial legislation in this country, and that several Non-Interest Financial Institutions (NIFIs) do not actually possess the documentary wherewithal required to compete with many of the advanced Non-Interest Financial jurisdictions around the world.

“In the light of this, we resolved to do some work on this in order to fill in the gap that exists. To achieve this, we need to generate the mandate of jurists, hence the selection of this conference theme,” he noted.

The conference attracted participants such as Grand Khadis from different states of Northern Nigeria, Sharia Court Judges, academics and lawyers.

Politics / Buhari Inherited $63.8bn Debt, Not $7bn-dmo by Enzorazor: 10:33am On Dec 10, 2019
The Debt Management Office (DMO) has debunked a recent statement reportedly made by a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafiya to the effect that the President Muhammadu Buhari inherited a debt stock of less than $7 billion in 2015, which according to him, now stands at $84 billion.

Debunking this, the DMO said as at June 30 shortly after the APC government came into power, that the debt profile of Nigeria was #63.81bn and not the purported #7.0bn reportedly declared by the CBN deputy governor, Dr Obadiah. Debunking this yesterday, the DMO said the Deputy Governor of the DMO said the purported claim was totally incorrect and not supported by public debt data that is readily available on its website.

A thisday newspaper report has it that the DMO said that, the nominal increase in the public debt stock between June 30, 2015 ($63.81 billion) and June 30, 2019 ($83.88 billion), was about $20.0 billion, which is a far cry from the gross misrepresentation made at the live programme on Channels that the public debt stock increased by $77.0 billion during this period.”

The DMO stated that it considered it expedient at this time, in the interest of the general public to make some clarifications regarding Nigeria’s public debt.

Politics / Presidency Backs Dss Rearrest Of Sowore Says Agency Has Power To Abort National by Enzorazor: 10:38am On Dec 09, 2019
PRESIDENCY BACKS DSS REARREST OF SOWORE SAYS AGENCY HAS POWER TO ABORT NATIONAL SECURITY THREATS

Following the showdown on Friday at the Abuja Federal High Court as Sowore and Bakare appeared before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu for the final verdict of Sowore and Bakare, to the court’s surprise, DSS officials stormed the court and halt proceeding, forcefully rearresting Sowore after he was granted bail a night before.

The Presidency has said that the Department of State Services have the constitutional powers and entitlements to arrest anybody that poses national security threats. This statement according to reports shows that, the presidency is in support of the dismal character displayed before a constituted court of law and before a Justice of the Federal High Court.

Releasing this statement, the presidency through Garba Shehu, President Buhari’s Spokesperson, the Presidency said it notes some of the insinuations in the media about the arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) of the agitator, Omoyele Sowore.

“The DSS does not necessarily need the permission of the Presidency in all cases to carry out its essential responsibilities that are laid down in the Nigerian Constitution – which was the foundation for the restoration of democracy in our country in 1999.”

“However, it should not surprise anyone who has followed his actions and words that Sowore is a person of interest to the DSS.”

“Sowore called for a revolution to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nigeria.”

“He did so on television, and from a privileged position as the owner of a widely read digital newspaper run from the United States of America.”

“He founded an organisation, Revolution Now, to launch, in their own words, “Days of Rage”, with the publicised purpose of fomenting mass civil unrest and the elected administration’s overthrow.”

“No government will allow anybody to openly call for destabilization in the country and do nothing.”

“Mr. Sowore is no ordinary citizen expressing his views freely on social media and the internet. He was a presidential candidate himself, who ran and lost as the flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 23 general elections.”

“Nigeria’s democracy was a long time in the making, and was achieved after decades of often harsh, military-led overthrows of government: the kind of situation Sowore was advocating.”

“To believe in and desire armed revolution is not normal amongst ‘human rights activists’, as Sowore has been incorrectly described.”

“Again, it is no surprise that he should be a person of interest to the DSS.”

“Nigeria is already dealing with an insurgency that has left millions of people displaced and desperate in the northeastern region of our country.”

“The Boko Haram militants, who are behind the violence, also fancy themselves to be fighting for some sort of revolution.”

“Nigerians do not need another spate of lawlessness and loss of lives all in the name of ‘revolution’, especially not one that is orchestrated by a man who makes his home in far away New York and who can easily disappear and leave behind whatever instability he intends to cause, to wit, Nnamdi Kanu.”

“This is a matter for the DSS, acting under its powers.” Garba Shehu concluded.

Politics / Sowore: Atiku Slams Buhari And His Dss Instruments, tagged Buhari A Tyrant by Enzorazor: 7:14pm On Dec 06, 2019
On Friday, Omoyele Sowore along with his co-defendant, Bakare who were released from DSS custody on the order of Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu were rearrested at the Federal High Court in Abuja after DSS agents chased the Judge and other lawyers with fire arms.

The People Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2019 general election has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari and the DSS.

“Today, I am in extreme anguish of spirit having watched the unfortunate drama that played itself out at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, in which agents of the state caused a commotion in court in order to frustrate a judgment of a court of competent authority.”

“Never in the history of Nigerian democracy has a judge been treated in such a disdainful and brazen attack on not just her person and office, but on the entire judiciary. This is unacceptable. It is a rape on the sanctity of the court.”

“Nigeria is not a dictatorship. We are a democracy, no matter how inconvenient this fact is to the powers that have forced themselves on us.”

“I call for an immediate inquiry to be set up to identify those responsible for the maltreatment meted out to Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu and the desecration of her court, and indeed the Nigerian judiciary. They must be sanctioned to the highest extent permissible by our laws.”

“I further call for all law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to immediately respect not just the court order made by Justice Ojukwu, but the order of any court in Nigeria, on any detainee, be it Omoyele Sowore, Sambo Dasuki or Ibrahim Zakzaky, among others.”

“We cannot have a situation where our government is quick to obey foreign court orders and even quicker to disobey domestic court orders. This is symptomatic of a mindset that is servile to foreign powers and brutal to Nigerians.”

Atiku said,”Without the rule of law, there can be no rule at all. Power in Nigeria still flows from the people, not from the barrel of a gun. I call on all men and women of goodwill not to keep quiet or sit on the fence at times like this.”

“To keep Nigeria a democracy is the paramount duty of all concerned stakeholders. Please speak up against this tyranny and side with the Nigerian people.” Atiku concluded.

The actions of DSS on Sowore only reminds me of what Goodluck Jonathan said before he left office.

“When I’m gone you will appreciate the level of Freedom you have in my administration”

“The choice before Nigerians…is simple:

“A choice between going forward or going backwards”

“A choice between FREEDOM & REPRESSION and desperate POWER SEEKERS with EMPTY PROMISSES.

Jonathan for saw these, now they are happening and Courts rules and verdicts are been disobeyed, the Constitution is weakened, law enforcement agencies are now absolute government instruments, National Assembly collaborates with the Presidency to slain Nigerians, and Press freedoms are been limited and different kind of aggressive bills are been sponsored to silence citizens freedom of speech and other undemocratic political decisions.
