Politics › Tinubu:buhari Has Forever Buried The Notion That He Is Undemocratic by epadomo(op): 10:29am On Jun 09, 2018 |
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), says that by declaring June 12 Democracy Day in place of May 29, President Muhammadu Buhari has “forever buried the ill-conceived notion that he is ambivalent to democracy”.
In a statement released on Thursday evening by Tunde Rahman, his spokesman, Tinubu also said Buhari had shown all Nigerians and the world that we have the moral fortitude to objectively face our history, learn from it and improve our society by virtue of this learning.
“The award of GCFR to Chief Abiola serves as an acknowledgement that he won the 1993 election and should have been allowed to serve as our president after winning that free and fair expression of the popular will,” he said.
“We also commend the award to MKO Abiola’s VP candidate, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe and that given to Chief Gani Fawehinmi. Chief Fawehinmi was a fearless advocate for democracy and the human rights of the common man. Whenever and wherever he spoke, it was the language of truth to power.
“Along with all democratic and fair-minded Nigerians, I welcome the news that June 12 will replace May 29 as Democracy Day. I too applaud President Buhari for making this courageous and rightful decision. This is good news for democracy and a proud moment for Nigeria. While impossible to go back in time and change the past, we must do our utmost to correct the wrongs of the past. This is what Buhari has done by this decision. He has shown all Nigerians and the world that we have the moral fortitude to objectively face our history, learn from it and improve our society by virtue of this learning.
“June 12, more than any other day, symbolizes the struggles and sacrifices made by countless Nigerians to establish democracy as our way of national governance. Chief MKO Abiola and others gave their lives that we might have democracy, that the will of the people would be sovereign and not suppressed by the will of the few. This proclamation by the president will forever memorialize the sacrifices made by these patriots who gave up themselves in service of such a noble and rightful purpose.”
He urged Nigerians to consecrate June 12, enjoy the holiday, and rededicate themselves to the ideals of democracy.
“We must consecrate this new holiday and ourselves so that we make it a living holiday. More so than ever before, the spirit of June 12 must live within us. It must guide our politics and how we govern ourselves. We must continuously dedicate ourselves to the freedoms and rights as well as the duties that democracy bestows on us all, political friend and foe alike. Let it be said that this presidential proclamation should forever bury ill-conceived notion that President Buhari is ambivalent to democracy. He has shown that he not only respects democracy but duly honor it,” he said.
“Democracy may be rough and untidy at times but it remains the form of government best suited for a society as diverse and multifaceted as ours. Today, the sun shines a bit more brightly. The sound of democracy peals more resolutely across the land. The sacrifices of Chief Abiola and others have been affirmed by the federal government he once should have led. Democracy has been given its proper seat and day. History has been corrected to the extent humanly possible. Nigeria continues to define its better self.”

YewaLand: Hello All,
Top of the moment to everyone on this platform.
I need to table my plight to every one who's willing to pick up a banking job as a contract staff. This is my experience, at Age 25, I decided to work with my ND certificate, hence my parent struggled to sponsor my studies, I put in for HND part time, having the hope after my HND program, that I have the better chance to secure a job else where with my current certificate knowing fully fully well that I have 5yrs experience.
I was amazed during my interview sessions with employers that it would be unfair for them to employ me when they have CONTRACT staff with them that have not been converted.
Now, am 41, my experience in interview sessions is terrible, after all questions and interaction, I would be made to know that I have built over the years a good CV even in. a banking sector but the BARRIER is AGE.
With this am frustrated, am like what's happening in our country, is it a crime for some to Age, I mean my experience should be speaking for me and not refraining me from certain opportunities.
The recession now has even worsened all as since 2015 am out of job when Ecobank disengaged there staff of their duties.
it takes the Glory of Almighty for my Living cos I have nothing am doing right now!
So I implore all that may pick interest to banking job as contract workers to think well and not waste their precious and youthful age with this self centred firms. Thank you,, YewaLand. @op its not yet late u can still catch up with life, need a job to change ur story then contact me 2ru my signature. if u are willing to make it in life. DAT my little kobo to u |

Sports › Lionel Messi Sentenced To 21 Months In Prison For Tax Fraud by epadomo(op): 12:28pm On Jul 06, 2016 |
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and his father Jorge have been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud, but won’t spend any time behind bars.
According to Spanish media, the Messi and his father were found to have evaded tax on Lionel’s image rights, owing more than €4m in back payments, and the Court of Catalonia has sentenced the pair to just under two years in prison.
However, as the sentence is short of two years, and neither Lionel nor Jorge have a criminal record, they won’t be required to serve any jail time.
Recall, the Barcelona player had argued that he wasn’t aware of the tax arrangements set in place by his father and other advisors, but the state attorney, Mario Maza, compared the player to a mafia boss, who has deniability on the illegal goings-on in his name, El Periodico notes.
