Abugab: Marriage is not all about money per se but how responsible you are. 600k for a wedding is not bad when prudently managed but it is more than just the wedding as marriage comes with responsibilities that involves huge finance. His income is steady and he has got prospects, the lady in question is educated and has got fashion designing as another possible source of income stream though not yet fully in action. If the girl has her dreams to have a career, she can search for a job and build further income for the family. They can choose to go on break with child bearing by having a family plan for at least two years to enable the girl secure a job and better still, make income from the fashion designer which could be lucrative if she knows the job and markets well. The guy can also use this window to do his Masters before the kids starts coming. For me, he can choose to settle down but there must be certain areas of agreement between the two of them as na their headache e be. You are right. |

Romance › With 600k, Should He Settle Down For Marriage At The Age Of 32? by Ephemmm(op): 12:34pm On Jul 13, 2015 |
Despite staying idle for over a year after his graduation from one of Nigerian Polytechnics, my friend finally secured his first job at Access Bank as a contract staff with 70k as salary. After two years in Access Bank, he did not only become a graduate member of a professional body in his discipline, but also strive hard to have 600k in his account. My friend has also acquired two plots of land in “not too enlightened area” in Osogbo, the capital state capital of Osun State. As a very ambitious man, he is also considering going for his Master Degree Programme, but has not yet decide on which the course and direction to follow. At a talented student, he came out as the best candidate among both Universities and Polytechnic graduates called for interview in one of private firms in Nigeria and has started working with them with N115k as net monthly salary in the past few months. He is 32 years of age now, and he is in love with a lady of 26 who was her junior while in Polytechnic. The lady in question too has combined fashion school with her job search, the ambition which has not yet come to a fruition. The bone of contention now is the insistence of my friend that his would-be-partner MUST be employed gainfully too before he can have a slightest though about marriage despite intense pressures from all angles. His parents have assured him of little help during marriage ceremony, but his self-reliant tendency has not acceded to their admonition. In my own perception about him, he is not ready to settle down for marriage as a result of his 'over ambition' in academic line: truly he is talented and I can beat my chest for him anyday anytime when it comes his discipline. Without accommodation of his own at present, coupled with the need for marriage expenses and the need to further his education, should he consider settling for marriage in Lagos now? As one of his closest friend, I decided to narrate this incidence on nairaland so that he can get first-hand-advice different from my own perspective because he is a kind of somebody that nobody can compel to do something unless he is personally and totally convinced, just like me. This is a true life scenario: matured advice is needed. Thank God he is a nairalander too |

Please suggest another My reason is simple, if you go back to vocational training, it will take you much time to the extent that you might not be able to concentrate on job searching anymore. However, it will consume your money and you might still need much money to set yourself up. To me that is the best option, unless you have someone feeding/accommodating you. |

henry255: This is a cry from a helpless guy. I roam the streets of lagos everyday from 6am to 9pm, yet I don't seem to figure out a veritable source for sustainance.
The feeling is grievous. Please guys how do you cope in this place? Bc I belive some people while searching for a good job still have something to fall back on. Please what is that thing let's share.
Life here is too terrible. Please I dont mean those still under their parents bc mine is late and i'm the first child of the family. High hopes rest on my shoulder.
And please what's your take on those posters pasted on oshodi and other places, cele under bridge claiming to have jobs of 80k etc. Are they for real? I understand your situation bros and I have once being in your shoe especially if you migrate to Lagos as a graduate without any other source of income. My question is do you have any vocational skill? If not, I will advice you to go and get Okada because this is the only means through which you can get instant money to finance your job search on daily basis. Being in Lagos involve something that will be fetching you money on day to day basis. For instance, you can ride okada for two weeks consecutively and decided to use the third week for job search through the money you get. Job search in Lagos is a 'great job' itself: be strong and courageous. |

Politics › Re: Buhari Is Operating Like A Pseudo- Military President – Njiko Igbo Forum by Ephemmm: 2:43pm On Jul 10, 2015 |
shudi: A South-East based pressure group, the Njiko Igbo Forum, NIF, has faulted the All Progressives Congress, APC, over its claim that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had not made sensitive appointments because it was still cleaning the mess left by former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government.
In an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Enugu, the President of the group, Rev. Okechukwu Obioha said President Buhari and the APC should admit their failure and stop looking for excuses, noting that it was unjustifiable for the President to be running the country without Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
While maintaining that such development was strange to democracy, Obioha said, “Buhari’s one month in government is no government at all; one had thought that as soon as he comes in, things will change because he made a lot of noise and promises during his campaign.
“But from what we have so far, I will first of all say that we are having a pseudo-military president now, looking at what has happened so far. For a month plus now, this government has no SGF, it has never happened in the history of Nigeria; so, this is why we are stating that what we have is head of state, even though he answers president”.
Faulting those who believe it was too early to assess Buhari, he said, “I get to wonder when some people are saying we should give him time; what time are we giving him? This is one month after; we are not even talking of ministers but that government should be set in motion; but he hasn’t done that; all he is doing is gallivanting around from one part of the world to another; we accused Obasanjo of travelling so much but his own is more; our people say that somebody whose house is burning does not pursue rat.
“Now, let me say this, it is even becoming obvious that before we do anything we go to America, we go to London, we go to Zimbabwe, tomorrow we will also go to Cote D’Ivoire before we take a decision; that is why we say we continue to say that he was rigged in; we can’t expect anything because the process that brought him in is a corrupt process”.
The group while sympathizing with the victims of renewed insurgents in the country, decried the transfer of Boko Haram prisoners to Anambra State, describing it as a deliberate attempt to spread the activities of the sect in the zone.
The NIF President , who also expressed doubt in the ability of the Buhari administration to curtail the insurgents said, “the insurgents are angry, the people who instigated them are the one in power now, so I don’t know how they will solve this riddle; now, they are talking about negotiation, so they have now admitted that these people are stronger, they are now going back to square one, these same people were againt any decision Jonathan took, now they are going back; tomorrow, they will say they are giving them amnesty.
“This brings to fore the injustice in this country; that’s why I blame Jonathan in a number of ways; look at Senator Ali Ndume, who is standing trial for Boko Haram related activities, but he is walking as a free man; then look at Biafran Zionists, they have been detained for several months now; this is why I blame so called Igbo leaders, they are only representing their belle; so, I see these people going further; that’s also why we are against what they called prison swap; it is intended to make Boko Haram spread to this place, but unfortunately we don’t have anybody to speak for us, that’s why they did this”.
On the current crisis rocking the National Assembly, Obioha said Ekweremadu was being persecuted because he is an Igbo man.
“You should know that the NASS we have now, the face is Coca Cola but the body is Fanta; it started during the time of Tambuwal and it was condoned, that is why the Tambuwal they are bringing now to mediate has no moral right; he can’t begin now to talk about party supremacy because he is the one that broke that jinx; that’s what these people have followed.
“What we are now saying is that if it were to be a northerner, they would have conceded; its only because this is an Igbo man; they (the West) connived with the north to remove Jonathan, now they are reaping the benefit; the same NASS members voted Saraki, Dogara and Ekweremadu, so, all of them should remain there, if they are touching him, let all the NASS leaders go; Ekweremadu must never be singled out”, he stressed.

Family › Re: Words Of Advice From A Mother To Her Daughter by Ephemmm: 10:20am On Jul 10, 2015 |
histemple: Absolutely on point. One of the major causes of our problems is the misplaced aggression to emulate the western culture. The nascent gender equality drive has subjected us to unfounded mendacious sentiments and has virtually made almost all our women to become feminists. And most of us are trying so hard to live an European life in Africa. Every society operate based on their value system and cultural inclination. For instance, western countries encourage single mothers and so they are indirectly increasing the number of bastards and marriage breakups. In Africa, a woman is more dignified and respected by the society based on her ability to build an enviable home. In Africa, a respectful woman has more power and influence over a man and can get anything she wants. To justify my point, a true african woman will appreciate this advice from a mother but it's a complete trash to a Western lady. My fellow women, we must be truly African to live peacefully and happily in Africa as trying to be Western in Africa will result to increased frustration. Woman submit and respect your husband and the Man should love his Wife. Waohhhhhhhhhhhh... How I wish I could be the real owner of a refined personality like this? Ladies with this kind of mentality are very scarce. |
