OAM4J:

let me also just say that not all the hotels in nigeria are that costly. I was still in nigeria last week. The hotel they got for me somewhere in Okota,Lagos was only about N3,000 a night (thats about $20) believe me it was very ok. but if you want a 5 star hotel, then be ready to pay more.
I also believe your embassy can be of help.
You can also check online for some holiday packages in nigeria. just goggle holiday in nigeria. i guess u will find something. but still verify all claim.s
all the best.

Thanks and well appreciate for giving me the heads up. I think with all the pieces of advice given to me; I have my heads screwed on right. I am already on the move with your advice. Thanks o.

@poster
while i am not knocking anyone,ill strongly advice you to make the liberian embassy your first point of call rather than a church or ministry you are not familiar with or not had any prior dealings with,while the man may mean well it is better to err on the side of caution,however if you must implicitly put your trust in any church,then let it be a known and prominent church like the redeemed church or deeper life e.t.c

as for your question,ill suggest you budget about 5,000 naira per day excluding accomodation,transportation is the most expensive and money sapping quest in lagos, i should know as i just came back about two weeks ago though my stay was shorter

Thanks GODSON2009 do appreciate the heads up. You know I never thought about contacting the embassy over there. Thanks again brother.

you are not far from the truth, money defines love in Lagos, no doubt about that, but you don't have to own a house full of money to get a decent girl in Lagos.
one more thing, look before you leap.

Looking is what I am in the process of doing; even after looking, I will not jump, nor run but will walk in "slow motion" so that I don't get "shown the motion." hehehehehehe, ehnhehn , ehnhehn.

But when it came time for God to give us the revelation of the origins of life, sin, etc he chose Moses who was obviously the most educated Hebrew for he was "learned in all the wisdom of Egypt." when he wanted to give us a complete revelation of His plans through the ages, and to formulate the doctrine of the church -- a task which would take up More than two thirds of the New Testament, He chose Paul, a Jewish scholar of the highest order.

We do not ignore the fact that God has used common, ignorant men, but that is not to say that Pastors should not be educated in the very Bible they are supposed to be teaching others. The Bible is a complex book not just because it is the Word of God but because it was written at a time and in a culture far removed from ours by thousands of years. There are are literary issues that can only be discerned by the ones who have been trained: e.g. There are different literary genre in the Bible which cannot be approached the same way; you cannot approach a historical narrative as you would poetry, apocalyptic, or parables. Interpretation is a complex literary science that demands some measure of training. Get that?

Without a question in my mind I have had some pretty good pieces of advice from some of you and will definitely follow through on them; however there is also a flip side to the good advice I received -- placing all Lagos women into the "no money no love basket." That, in my opinion is presumtious on all counts.

It is becoming very obvious to me that a spanner has been thrown into the communication works.  So why don't we all take a deep breath and get back to the issue(s) at hand.  We are on the same page but appearto be reading a different paragraph.  Let us return to the first paragraph of chapter one (lol).  "In the beginning was the Topic: embarassed embarassed embarassed

You must be very fortunate to be part of the Word centred fellowship or ministry. There are those who are not so fortunate; they are exposed to erroneous teachings from pastors who have not been taught themselves. It is sad o; so sad.

I copy. Let me just say this you know among the many tribes in Nigeria, I gravitate towards the Yorubas. I'll ge to working this thing out since time is of the essence. I am sure I will get in touch with some of the guys here who could become friends.

Is there anything I need to be aware of, I mean culrurally. You are so conscious of your cultural heritage. Thanks any way for the heads up

Take am softly oh so you don't run into a bad guy. There are good pickings if that is what you choose. The cultures are not far from one another so compatability will not be a major issue.

There are many Yorubas today of sierra leonian decent in Nigeria although some of them will not admit it

In regards traveling, i still suggest you find a naija friend and tag along with them, The experience will be ten times more enjoyable. Trust me on that one.

Soooo true my guy.  I am asking God to guide me in this matter while I tread cautiously.  Some of our brothers are bad o.  I will really appreciate if you could give me some clues.  Let me lay it out to you I am a practicing Christian and would like to get some clues on how to navigate this terrain.  I want to make genuine friends that is why I am here.

@morpheus24
WOW!  I guess I will have to make some friends fast since I do not currently have any in Lagos.   I was really looking forward to staying with a friend; but the friend I know lives all the way in Benin city.  I have not been able to make contact with him for over a month now.  the way I see things the cost of living in a hotel is very expensive.  the last time I visited Freetown, I lived with a family but God used me be a blessing to them in a way that they continue to ask me to return.  That's the kind of thing I would really like to do.  I need to locate such a family that I could be a blessing to.

Concerning our three countries you have made so much sacrifice in helping us with our past troubles that we feel so obligated to you.  You guys are the true big brothers because you have proven it.  I have visited Sierra Leone often and have learnt so much about that country and its people.  Now I want to turn to Nigeria.  Can I tell you a secret?  I want to get married to a Nigerian;  that is how passionate I am about Nigeria.  I want my children to have Nigerian blood.  I just love you guys; I cannot explain it nor can I escape it.  I have this strong amorous bias towards Nigerians.

I am a Liberian residing in the US and have always loved Nigerians and their culture (probably was a Nigerian in my past life lol)  I plan to spend the Christmas holidays in Lagos; this will be my first time visiting Lagos. What I need to know from you all is this:  What will it cost to live in Lagos for a month (considering  hotel, feeding, transportation, and entertainment)? I would also like to visit Abuja before returning.  Please make your suggestions I'm all ears.

I agree with you about the language she employed against honerc01; it was a bit on the strong side; but again the guy's post was also on the strong side o.  People need to take it easy here after all this is just a a cyber exchange where we trade in ideas and issues not emotions of anger.

I'm sure you mean "the love of money is the root of all evil."  By the way I am not into judging the motives of the heart; that is the sole prerogative of God, what I am most concerned about is the downright ignorance of preachers who mislead God's people from the pulpit.

honeric01:

you said that taking pictures in Lagos would get you arrested? who's giving that false information? some people just talk just because they want to talk, i have series of pictures of places in Lagos on my phone and no fly has ever questioned why i took them, stop posting rubbish about what you don't know, angry

by the way, AMAKA, you really do not know alot about Nigeria talkless of Lagos, you are 80% ignorant of what Nigeria is even though you claim you are from imo states. anyways when you get to imo, do you ever leave your village or you just don't look when you go outside your village?

"I was informed that using a camera in Lagos is an invitation to the bad guys. I was also told that taking pictures of government buildings could get me arrested or detained by the police. Could you confirm any of this?"

I assume that you misread my post.  I was not making a statement of fact but was simply asking for confirmation of what someone has suggested to me. So my guy cool down; no harm intended. Since you are informed could you do me the favor of answering the question, please?

Laughter is an indispensable ingredient in the recipe of life; therefore we should try to bring laughter into the lives of others.  It is an unwritten law in the human psyche that we are endeared to those who make us laugh.  The Book says "laughter is medicine for the soul"

Don't get too serious. Just having fun. Laughing is a social contagion; one starts to laugh and the other joins in even if they do not understand the basis of the initial laugh. Got it now?
