You're waking up. You're a true leader who has patience. Wike in his time would have caused a lot of chaos long before now. Who can try this nonsense he's doing to you when he was governor? That's the difference between a rogue and a decent fellow. Fubara, the power lies in your hands, use it to the fullest.

Tell me, which of Tinubu's supporters is respectful? No be here we dey last year wey dem dey insult someone who's old enough to be their great grandfather, in person of Pa Adebanjo because he refused to support their evil mentor? So, don't expect anything strange from YesDaddyTill203. I pray they all grow old too. Karma is awaiting all of them. They should keep insulting our elders. This is unlike yoruba cos we don't disrespect elders, not even when we know they're at fault.

PoliticsRe: Petrol Subsidy ‘return’: NNPCL, IMF Disagree Over N8.43trn Loss by Eriokanmi:
The Jaujau leader will be humbled by force. For weeks now, he's been quiet over the major cause of the return of queues in petrol stations nationwide but we knew why....they've certainly exhausted their lies grin. The naira he floated was the greatest mistake any leader would make. The impact would last up to 5 years cos Nigeria hasn't been the same since he committed the blunder. Where are the subsidy palliatives, one year after? We're so gullible in this country. When the time is right, we will fight for our right. Is the PH refineries working now despite the recent noise?

No leader dwells on propaganda ever succeeeds in ruling their people veritably. How can you be lying even when everyone knows the truth.? A few minutes ago, I read here on NL that Mr ojo, the interior minister was going to review the visa policy, I lafff. This is tantamount to a local adage which says, ęfi ętę silę, ę npa lapa lapa...which literally means, you're abandoning leprosy and busy treating eczema. I wonder which is worse a disease out of the two. You are not dealing decisively with insecurity, which is next to corruption and bad economic policy first, which is one of the reasons naira is falling, you're reviewing visa policy. For who exactly? Which investors would come with their dollars to spend in an insecure nation where foreigners are being kidnapped and key security operatives are being killed? Nip this menace in the bud first and see the investors coming on their own, uninvited. They know everything about Nigeria more than the citizens do.

All the African nations with currencies stronger than naira are making it mainly via tourism. What is Botswana producing? What of Seychelles, Zambia, including an ordinary Benin Republic? Any doubting thomas should just cross our border and enter cotonou. You'd think you're in Europe when you see Canadians, Americans, Asians lying on the floor of the Obama beach without a single armed security operatives guiding them. They walk freely even in town

Nigeria my country, who do us like this? Other nations import fuel too, we hear the news on both local and international media, they don't queue like we see in Nigeria for fuel. They dont even have fuel as we do. There's only one cause of all these mess..... bad leadership brought about by sentiments and bigotry. I wonder if an ordinary hausa/fulani benefited from buhari administration. The only detribalised democratic government was that of obasanjo, which was why his administration witnessed such prosperity. No tribe or ethnicity was secluded as he picked the best across board. Everyone prospered

I hope they won't wake up tomorrow and say na those smuggling petrol into cotonou cause fuel scarcity. Awon oniranu, spreading propaganda all around.

Thank you jare. I just made a similar comment sef. Oyinbos no dey joke with security oo. Amazingly, they know about Nigeria than those of us living in Nigeria do.

I was in Germany a few years back when a German partner hosted me into his office. I asked him to visit Nigeria. She said, which part of Nigeria are you....looking at the global map in her office for Lagos State. She said she's not coming cos she could get killed grin, despise persuading her that lagos was very safe. This was over 10 years ago. You can imagine her orientation now that the situation is worse.

Naira free fall can be attributed to insecurity. They want to take their dollars to safe destinations. Try and visit cotonou. You'd be shocked when you see westerners visiting for tourism.

I was at a place called Hotel Du Lak to eat, I saw Canadian tourists in their various uniforms. They too came to eat and have fun. I was feeling like I was in Europe. The last time I saw such in Nigeria was in the early 90s. It doesn't happen anymore. Most of the African country's currency didn't just leave Naira behind. Tourism had really played a role. Imagine the cefa that used to be very worthless. It has left Naira far behind. See ordinary Mauritius, Kenya, Botswana, Eritrea, Zambia currencies. Check them out. You'd be shocked. These are tourist destinations in africa. They don't make noise like Nigeria.

We have over a decade serious work to do to curb insecurity for Nigeria to get better.

Zeesugar:
It's high time we had look into tourism as a means to improve the economy. Nigeria can be the next tourist destination
Have they resolved kidnapping, bokoharam, banditry, militiamen activities issues yet? These investors and tourists know details about our country more than we Nigerians do. Once insecurity is dealt with, you don't need to tell them. They'd be the ones disturbing us for visa.

Insecurity is one of the reasons the naira is falling. Investors prefer to take their dollars to save destinations. No foreigner would hear about foreigners being kidnapped and killed in nigeris and would wish to go to that country ti invest. Oyinbos value their lives more than an average nigerian does. They don't joke with security.

Unfortunately, our government isn't winning the battle on insecurity. They're even growing more wings. When foreigners read about the police and army chiefs being kidnapped successfully, it means a lot.

Read the below: it's the worst account of kidnappers I've read in recent times:

BusinessRe: Nigeria’s Neighbours Reject Naira, Opt For CFA, Dollars by Eriokanmi:
How many times have I shouted here that cefa had overtaken naira. The agbadorians thought it was a joke.

There's nothing the clueless government hasn't blamed for the free fall of the naira,. Instead of...

Killing corruption

Reducing government excesses and cutting the NA allowances, etc

Reducing and collapsing ministries.

Stopping unproductive loans

And the major one, curbing insecurity. No investor will bring their money to countries where investors are being kidnapped for ransom taking. This is one of the major reasons Naira is falling. Curb insecurity and see them coming uninvited

They know the solution but they'd never go that way. Na revolution fit these animals

We the hardworking and sane Nigerians already knew who Ebola Tinubu is. We knew how he ran Lagos and the supposedly high IGR, hence the reason why we rejected him loud and clear, and they tagged us Obidafts. Tinubu and his family are bunch of greedy fellows that only think about what they can grab. Someone that denied his biological parents, his ancestral town and kinsmen, just because of material gain. If you think Tinubu is after the good of Nigeria, then you are the most foolish human that ever lived.
They even called us Ibo. Imagine grin. They called a lot of us omo ales(bastardss) just because we didn't join them in supporting evil. Is Tinubu our father? He knows the number of his children so, how can we be omo ale grin.? The Alimosho where I belong, the largest LG in Nigeria by population, we voted out Tinubu. The population of yoruba here is 95% Only 5% are ibos and others. Saying ibos didn't like Tinubu by voting him out in lagos is a tale from the moonlight. They should stop sinning to God by attacking these people. We yorubas killed his victory in lagos. We know Tinubu much better than the outsiders.

BusinessRe: The More I Put Money In My Business, The More Unprofitable It Is -Petty Trader by Eriokanmi:
Remember this fact...we're in Tinubu's government, someone who is leading by propaganda and never prepared for the job.

A doctor friend whom I drove to his hotel last week from the airport told me this fact...
That in 2014, until early 2015, your naira in the bank was worth gold and at some point, naira and dollar rate both at the black and official markets were equal so, people hardly patronised the bank to get fx. I remember a day I was in Montreaux in Switzerland and inserted my ATM card in their machine and withdrew Swiss franc, their local but powerful currency. Our economy was under control with no stress. Gari seller never complained, transport companies stabilised their fares including airlines ticket for a pretty long time.

Today, the reverse is the case. All those who participated in bringing in this government of evil will meet their Waterloo, no be curse. Its a reality that's dawning on us all cos we go to same market and queue at petrol station to buy fuel on which he said subsidy is gone but they're even paying it now in trillions

In 2009, we bought 2 Toyota corolla cars from metropolitan motors, brand new though manual transmission at 2.2m each, even with some discount. Same car is worth several millions of naira today. Its even better to trade now in cotonou cfa, the currency that was once the worst in performance in Africa than trade in naira at the border. Yesterday, i read that naira is now a worst performing currency in africa and we're no more the largest economy in africa, despite our vast resources, population and the Mr magic in power.

The below are the causes

1- voting along the sentiment lines instead of merit. Omo wa nii, ęję o shee. When a candidate failed at home, what does that mean...that he'd done well to the members in the family? No! That alone is a bad omen in the last election but a lot of people were so myopic in nature.

2- corruption. When you have same group of corrupt old men in power, don't expect miracles. Status quo would be maintained. They don't know your family even though you voted them in, out of sentiments. You're OYO.

I took a contract recently and everyone in that ministry was calling me. Those whom I didn't even know when doing all the wahala. They said where person dey work, na there him dey chop so make i remember them. So, if I now remember everyone, what would be left for me and that's why many do a substandard job and nobody would gbemu cos they've been all settled and what's left could do nothing .

3- unproductive loan. Buhari had borrowed a hell of loans which were unproductive. The creditors don't take us seriously anymore. We keep borrowing and some have stopped giving . You borrowed to pay salary to ghost workers, execute contracts that have been inflated 4 times its actual cost and which they'd still abandon. The interest we pay on them is huge. In the end, money meant for real projects and development will be so lean.

4-Reckless spending of govt. Nigerian NA members are the highest-paid in the world. Don't expect anything reasonable, wherever such is happening. They're made up of former governors who have retired in senate after ruining their respective states while in power, economically. You came to power and added more ministries after you've committed the blunder of floating the naira and ending subsidy same time. Angola is a good example of a reasonable nation with a reasonable leader. They removed subsidy too but in piece meal, even with the palliatives already out in place before removing the subsidy gradually.

May I ask, where are the Tinubu's palliatives, one year after? Why is it only Nigeria that seems to be hardest hit by the global inflation as if we're the only country in africa, why not other African countries? Only in Nigeria will you see people protesting over common food. Whenever we say vote wisely, e get why. And these are the whys...

We're just suffering because of our own mistakes in this country. God has been kind to us. Its annoying when they say our naira was so bad cos we're less productive, because we import more. They should read the law of comparative advantage. There some stuffs we'd be importing till the end of the world and which wouldn't cause the naira to fall. Btw 1999 and early 2015, i wonder what we were producing when the naira was so strong. I wonder if we've stopped importing now, what we were importing then. To the best of my knowledge, we've even dropped some by producing them locally. We also export more now yet, the economy is in this terrible shape. When the world encountered a global melt down, we were not affected then, it was because we had a robust economic team in place. What has changed ? You can answer that.

Until we correct all these, we're still playing. God bless Nigeria.

I had three of them for close to ten years. Infact people begged me to drop them even though I had other phones.
I still have the three. If there are awards given for usage of Nokia 3310, I should get one.
A lot of us got successful job interview messages on 3310 in those days. Once if falls and gets scattered, just pick it up and assemble. It would never disappoint you as a job hunter cos d battery no dey die, even at one bar, it could still last several hours. I called it a Nokia production mistake cos it doesn't get spoilt easily so you'd have no need to buy a replacement for years. The quality was soo good.

If the quality is still same I'd definitely buy one.

Don't mind them. They were mainly referring to the Old Ibadan settlement. If you've been to the new settlement, you'd not believe your eyes. In Nigeria, civilisation started in Ibadan. Ibadan was just like lagos or Abuja of nowadays. In those days, people would come from outside Nigeria to visit Ibadan. 2 african cities were known for tourism in those days, because of their high level of civilisation and huge population. They're Ibadan and Cairo. Ibadan used to be the largest city in Africa before Cairo overtook her. You could drive for 3 hours within Ibadan metropolis and you're still there. A prof emeritus once told me that, they used to receive patients into UCH from other African nations and the tertiary health institution was once voted the 4th best in the entire commonwealth nations. You know what that means.

On the brown roofs, as of the time when about 80% of houses in Nigeria were covered with rafia palms and bamboos, 80% of houses in Ibadan already had the galvanised iron sheets on them. People used to come and see that alone. Rich men from outside would come and build in Ibadan. Unfortunately,.Ibadan lost its status for years until makinde arrived. If only we can allow merit to have its way , mediocrity won't hold sway and we'd always get better as a nation. Seyi makinde is a true representation of omoluabi. That's what we're known for, and not someone of controversial status. Makinde is a clean politician whose profile can be verified anywhere. Kudos to him. If he continues this way, he'd lead Nigeria sooner than anticipated. Soludo and Oti are another guys to look out for. We have such visionaries in every tribe.
BusinessRe: What Do You Think Should Be Done To Appreciate Naira ? by Eriokanmi: 2:21pm On May 09, 2024
Simple

1- Reduce the spending and allowances in the National Assembly

2- Reduce the number of appointees and ministers, reduce overseas travels and entourage. Millions are being wasted in estacodes on such useless trips.

3- probe all those past leaders who have stolen Nigerian money. That money is still stashed underground in their various homes. Those who had no industries but owned a private jet among our politicians should also be probed, starting from tinubu.

4- Probe all these past contracts awarded and their values, including stages of completion. Most of the time, loans taken by the FG are being embezzled via contracts. I remember the 2bnUSD buhari spent on TAM of the refineries and claimed they'd make them sellable to potential buyers. That money is gone and we're still servicing the debt. That's just one out of several.

If the above could be done, Naira would appreciate naturally.

Diversification and discouragement of importation are good too but secondary. They're not the primary reasons our economy is in a bad shape. Nigeria had aleays been an import-dependent nation and our currency had been our pride, until the apc came. I visit Benin Republic all the time on projects. Their cfa, which used to be useless is much stronger than the naira now. Benin Republic, just like some great economies in the west, import almost all they consume but there's accountability. Nigeria is a fantastically corrup nation and we caused it...we the electorate.

What a detribalised Nigerian he is. We need to kill tribalism by all means. Giannis, despise being of a yoruba father, was showing some philanthropic moves towards some ibo youths on his visit to Nigeria recently. I hope all tribes would emulate these guys.

If you don't support tinubu, you're seen as an omo ale, is Tinubu everyone's dad? Everyone knows their own father. Democracy gives room for choices and that has to be respected. Only tribalistic bigots believe in that stinking statement. If you're not ibo, you can't contest and win any election in the south east as well. I think our forefathers and current greedy politicians planted this seed of discord which we must weed off as a matter of urgency if we must survive as a nation cos we need each other to make Nigeria great. Soludo, elrufai, etc are changing all that already in their political appointment and we need more of it.

We must stop allowing people of questionable character to always having their way. Imagine atiku who had been VP for 8 years, someone who was supposed to be governor of adamawa but was so lucky to be VP now trying to come back and be president? If there's someone who destroyed the PDP today, that person is none other than atiku and the hungry ones in the pdp who welcomed him back after leaving the party for his selfish gains. The likes of Peter Obi and Wike would have remained. Presidency was zoned by the party to the south but you rushed in from dubai and hijacked it twice with money. That's why Obi left cos , had he behaved as a true Nigerian and an elder, he'd have supported Obi to contest and win primary but instead, he bribed each delegate with 50kusd while emilokan bought delegates with 25k usd each. Obi would have had an easy and non-controversial win. My uncle used his own 25k usd collected as a delegate to build a mini hostel, smart man. I stopped supporting the APC by allowing tinubu in. Someone who once said he never believed in one Nigeria.

Among the 3 leading candidates, only Obi had clean votes. 99% of those who voted him didn't even know him, talk less of collecting bribe, while tinubu and atiku bought positions and votes for themselves. I hope people have learnt their lesson already. God bless Nigeria.
