aliondo: Forget about his stats two years ago...This season,P.G beat Klay both offensively and defensively...whichever way you want to look at it.... I asked how? Efficiency? 3pt%? 3pt made? or because one plays for OKC and the other GSW? |
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by Eruditor: 2:58pm On Jan 24, 2018 |
Decale: Kyrie and Klay are completely different. No other PG in the East is averaging points up to Kyrie and let's not forget his impact on the team.
PG on the other hand is having a better defensively and offensively season than Klay without looking at the stats. He makes up a whole lot of the team's offense unlike Klay. His starters make up 80% of Thunder points, which means when he's not on court, there's problem; still unlike Klay.
No how, no how wey you go twist this thing, even with all the third option talk that Klay is better than PG and Lou Williams this season. When you're 3rd option, you don't get to have more luxury than people that are the carriers of their team. Laye laye
And overall, his style of play is more enjoyable than watching Klay shoot midrange, 3 balls and bland layups in an All Star game. I will sleep... So which other 3rd option in the whole of the NBA is averaging better than Klay? PG is having that year and we should still not look at the stats? How many shots will KD and Curry need to miss before a 3rd option on a team will get 15ppg let alone 20 or is the standard different because it is a GSW player? That is the part that will keep me up at night. If Thunders need PG to be relevant that means Kawhi was overhyped, no? Or both Curry and KD are dispensable since the team went on runs when either player was available (meanwhile, in those runs, I bet you Klay's numbers were better than every other 2nd option in the NBA at the time). So enlighten me again how Klay is being carried? Or which of the whole players in the NBA will not be carried offensively (add Lou and PG) when they are 3rd wheeling KD and Curry. This different standard una dey give GSW players get as e be. Very soon same players who do not deserve to be all-stars will be regarded as 4 hall of famers when they want to beat Lebron in another finals. |

sinizia: No offence intended, but the emboldened is an avalanche of bullshît. Better still, it's aptly described as apples and oranges. Makes no goddamn sense.
1. Watford have never spent the kind of huge money the likes of Shitty, United, Chelshit, Barcelona and other top clubs have spent in this modern transfer window in their entire history. Apples and oranges.
2. Watford are ambitious, but there own ambitions is survival in the EPL and having a good run generally in cup competitions or league. Any other achievements like winning the FA Cup, Caraboa Cup or qualifying for European competition is a bonus and a lucky achievement for them, so sacking managers is means of survival not to win major trophies. But when top clubs sack mangers, it's usually for them not making the UCL or winning trophies. Apples and oranges.
3. When Man Shitty sacked Pellegrini, they got Pep. Who did Watford get? When Man Shitty hired Pep, they did with the future dream of winning UCL, league titles and having the success Pep brought to Bayern, Barca. Which success or targets will Watford demand from the average coach that replaced Silva? Apples and oranges.
4. Watford after sacking the coach before Silva was appointed, how much did they spend, and what are the quality of players they bought? When Man City appointed Mancini, below is what a website had to write about their ambitions, and onslaught in the transfer window. Check out the players they got and how much they spent.
Man City's spending and the players they bought showed the higher ambitions of that club; Man City sack managers to aim higher, Watford sack theirs to escape relegation. Once again, apples and oranges.
5. Finally, the most funny one - You've the chutzpah to list Tevez, Mascherano and Lavezzi in your argument. First of all, the Chinese league just like the American league snap up mostly expired or waning TOP players who's past their prime (the young ones are usually average players or poor low tier ones) because theirs are still a growing league and need the influx of popular players to put their league on the map. They're not yet established. When LA Galaxy signed Beckham, they knew he's finished, or at least they signed him coz of his A-list status. He was signed to bring American league to the limelight. Beckham spent his prime at United and Madrid. It's same for Xavi and his Qatar quest. So if I find it funny that you're mentioning mercenaries and expired products like Mascherano, Lavezzi and Tevez who have their best years behind them. Who next will you mention? The Oscars, Anichebes and Ighalos of this world?
Chinese clubs owners are showing ambition like their American counterparts by bringing in this popular stars to help grow their league, while these expired stars are going their for the money. So yes, The Chinese club owners are showing ambitions, that's why they criticised Tevez for scamming them when they were dreaming of having a determined Tevez of yesteryears. Neymar moved from Barca to PSG but his dream of competing at the highest stage, playing in Europe's top competition and at the highest level were never in doubt. If he'd done the same with the Chinese league, everybody would've concluded it is for the money because Chinese league is a lowly rated league which top players in demand doesn't give a fùck about. If Lavezzi, Tevez and co moves to City, their ambitions are not questioned coz City is a top club in England and Europe top 5 league, but when they move to China, everybody knows the truth that's its about the money. The difference is clear. I thought writing epistles was exclusively my thing? Everyone who spends huge sums is not necessarily trying to win the league. Smaller clubs or big waning clubs need huge investment to compete. It is has been a fact since time immemorial. Enter Liverpool, Everton and AC Milan to the mix. When the City Sheikh project began, it was not realistic to win the league in a flash: other teams with more history and pedigree (like United, Arsenal and Chelsea) were still in the mix and competing for the facilities needed i.e best players, so Sheikh had to dangle $$$ to lure such players. Enter Robinho and co. At that point in time, the only reason a Robinho would have left RM to City over Chelsea was the MONEY. City had no lofty "ambitions". Everyone in world football knew this (except a few asinine dingbats). City finished 10th (Hughes) season Robinho signed, 5th, 3rd and 1st (Mancini, who should have been fired after finishing 5th if title-winning was their ambition, right?) Sheikh, shook money infront of players who would have gone elsewhere and they came to City instead. Parent clubs got handsome recompense - all was right with the world. Subsequently - and almost inevitably - success came, and we have City of today. Today, City do not believe they must overcompensate players to get them (they believe players will buy into the direction the team is heading to - some others want to play for the manager). For e.g, Gabriel was courted by your club, Barca and Real but he chose City for only 27M GBP (same money others tendered). His reason is online. United used to be the team that got english, sometimes world talents because they knew they would win titles, play for perhaps the greatest british manager and earn well but you knew players were not coming as. . . mercenaries. You are a United fan and this is probably going to rub you the wrong way, but that is not the case anymore. United dangled money at Pogba and his agent (to snatch him from Madrid), Lukaku (from Chelsea) and now Alexis from City - the evidence is online for all and sundry to read. That is the exact claim I made for Alexis that generated all these hoopla and with it, the carcasses of used-to-be loud mouths now laying dead with tails between their legs. I did not insult Alexis (I think he is a top 3/4 talent in the league), or United for getting him. I simply stated exactly what transpired: If United and City matched offers, Alexis would not have come to United. The proof is in the pudding. United gave a humongous offer and he went back to City to ask them to match it and City said no (no longer desperados like '08) and pulled out of signing him. |

Decale: That's the point you're missing. This is an All Star game, selected for how good you are in scoring/passing not for defending. Nobody plays defense in an All Star game
If we're talking about All defensive team or All NBA first team or whatever, then your point would have more stronghold. So 20.9 is sooo far off 20.3 in ppg for 2nd and 3rd options? Or GSW players should not make it since individuals may not have high assist numbers considering we move the ball alot? |

But somehow i feel that discredits every statement you make. Draymond and PG don't compete for all-star positions but even at that, it is not PG or Lou that would unjustify Klay's inclusion. You can bring me a worthy candidate and I would accept. Klay is a 3rd option in a team with the best record and his numbers are very decent in all ramifications. Compare his number to all other 3rd options around the NBA let us see. |

His numbers are not great compared to his previous 2 years (so I don't know where people got this talk about his great season). He had 20.9 ppg to Klay's 20.3. All his efficiencies while at it are lower than Klay's and Klay is the 3rd option on his own team. Even I am not saying Klay's season is otherworldly, but someone who wants to make a case for Kyrie for e.g, will not use his ppg as a reason to justify his All-star spot, as even that seems slightly lower than last year. What Kyrie has going for him is his allround game and conference topping record. So why should the standard change for Klay? |

Decale: Lol. Nah. He's been doing that for 17 games plus since the roster got injured. Prior to that, he also had some 20+ points games from the bench with the same FGs as Thompson but less minutes.
You can't average 23 points a game and have only 11 good games...
You can't average the most points (31ppg) since December and have only 11 good games...
You can't have the most 40 point and 30 point games since that span and have only 11 good games, brother... You can't have the most 3 pointers and free throws (best FT percentage too) since then and it's 11 games
Man dropped 40 points from the bench, the only player this season since Lou Williams did it last. Also gave 50 points and an L at the Oracle Arena. How about the 30 and 10 steals, etc etc?
Let's not forget what he did for the team, having one time the best stretch in the league.
I can go on and on why Lou or PG deserves it more than Klay. But you can, when you are the primary scorer for your team compared to the other guy who is 3rd in his team and plays waaay more D than you. The amount of minutes Lou has played is inconsequential if all his minutes are scoring minutes compared to Klay who atimes guards the best guards in the game. I commend Lou for having an 11-game span of wonderful scoring and playing (not that he has played only 11 good games) but Klay has a stronger case as 3rd option. |
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by Eruditor: 3:36am On Jan 24, 2018 |
Decale: My own problem na mainly Paul George not getting in. Would take out Klay Thompson tbvh. And Lou Williams inconsistencies aren't like Thompson's. Lou even does that from the bench, taking his team from 11th to playoff contention and simultaneously having his name in the history books. That's All Star quality there
If we're talking about gathering of team players with a wonderful record, then that's understandable. But na individual performances plus impact maketh an All Star mostly...
Thompson, Lowry and Horford are mainly there for their team standings. When we know Drummond, Kemba and Dragic are having better seasons. Ditto YGtrece and Lou
In summary: Na Paul George dey vex me pass... But P.G has been inconsistent too. Good season he is having notwithstanding. Lou cannot make a case for himself with 11 games over a 46 game season as we stand. Has Klay been inconsistent? Yes. But in his inconsistency he is almost 50: 40: 90. He is actually on 48: 45: 88 (best 3pt record in the NBA for number made and percentage) while playing defense. I actually think he is being overlooked because he is in GSW. |

And Lowry over Kemba is unacceptable. Beal did get in finally!!!! Hallelujah!!!! Lou plays well for 10 games then he should be an all-star? Do you know why (Warriors bias aside) I feel Klay and Draymond should and rightly made that team? Because when we get to the NBA finals again that is all everyone will keep saying just to push this hurting parity in the league narrative. |

Some can do it on weekly basis, some might not. The loyalty bonus of Neymar is different from other clauses/bonuses in his contract. Neymar's image right, match bonus were different from his loyalty bonus for signing a new contract. Don't lump them together to win this argument. I have not claimed to be an authority, I am only stating what makes financial sense. If the figures being bandied around are anything to go by, Alexis signed a contract of anywhere between 75.6-129.6M for 4.5 years. Would it not have been cheaper to pay him 250k/week for 4.5 years with a lump-sum of 10M Pounds? It would still have cost United 64M for 4.5 years as against what is above. As you can see, Alexis signed for money any which way we look at it. |

joeace2020: lol.. baba there is a media war going on when United is brought into discussions. One of the reasons we are now the biggest club is because of the media. They talk about United morning day and night. If you open any football related website right now.. You'll see a united article in its first 3 articles. They create negative stories about us, they add figures that suit them on our players wages because they know there are millions of anti-united audience eager to get these information on united and knowing fully well negative news sells faster so they keep churning them out article after article and as you have seen from this thread, people can't wait to read anything negative about us. If the real De Bruyne figures are put out, we all know nobody would be interested in reading it, articles about players from clubs in England bar united do not generate enough clicks, impression, adsense money hence the the obvious negative press united and anyone associated with the club receives. It only saddens me when people choose to ignore the real realities which in this case is that De Bruyne, many of City players, Chelsea players have their wages represented correctly after tax in the press because no one wants to read about them but United's are reported with additional strange figures just for some small change. The other day it was an article about Pogba wanting more money because Sanchez earns £400,000 weekly after tax..Another funny figure. For them, in other clubs Ronaldo, Messi and co earning huge wages doesn't disrupt the dressing room.. Only at United because only United exists in world football in their bizarre stories. No man. In the past, City and other minnows used to buy players simply because of wealth - not for trophies or ambition. Then United was the team that signed players who wanted to win and be part of something huge. But these days (especially with the Sanchez signing) it appears like the tables have turned hence the controversy. Pogba, Lukaku and now Alexis seem to be players who moved for pecuniary reasons. |

show us the amount KDB is earning before tax. don't forget to add his image right, sign on fee, and agent fee. It is clear that KDBs wage is purely before tax. All the figures we have heard have ranged from 260-290k. The other talk about image right, sign-on fee and agent fee do not make sense. Clubs can come up with any reasons to pad a player's wage. What they normally add to make the wages what they are, are goal bonuses, appearance bonuses, UCL bonus, UCL goal bonus etc It has always been a tradition of clubs to pay these fees you have above (image, sign-on bla bla) as lump-sums or one-off payments never to include it in the weekly wage. It is even cheaper to. So defend your club if you may, but do not expect to gazump us while at it. |

sinizia: I've provided another link. Look up I can't reconcile the 2 of them. They are at so much variance that one has to be clearly wrong or misinterpreted. In UK based on earnings tax bracket should be in the range of 40-50% for those who earn as much as footballers. In that regard, 45% of £225k is a figure that leaves £125k, perhaps ,which is what Zlatan "takes home" per week. So in reality, the arguments and links are somewhat the same. So when zlatan was earning say £368k a week, he was probably taking home £200k after tax. I guess that is why Alexis wanted something so high. He was thinking of his money after tax. Smart Chilean that one! PS: remove 45% from £600k and he is left with £330-350k which is what some others have said Alexis will earn. |

Everyone knows Zlatan was mega-paid last season. It happens to good players that come on a free transfer. Which is why those arguing that wages do not factor are wrong. Clubs induce players (Bayern did to Lewa) to make them refuse new contracts from their parent teams so that when they leave free, the receiving club can pay the players as much as they want. |

If Lebron criticizes Lue he is criticising himself. Lue has never been a coach. He was Blatt's assistant and has become Lebron's. Blatt even had a better record than Lue all round before he was fired. But bad reffing, cheating by NBA front office, unfit Steph and brainfart moments by Kerr made Lue what he is today.
