Politics / Court Stops Police, DSS From Arresting Kogi SDP Spokesperson, Adejoh-audu by Esther125: 11:54am On Dec 12, 2023
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has stopped the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Unuoha, from arresting the spokesperson of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Mr Faruk Adejoh-Audu.

Also restrained in the order issued by the high court are the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Kogi State Director of DSS.

The restraining order against the security agents is to last till the final determination of a motion on notice in an action for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights brought by Adejoh-Audu, who claimed his life has come under serious threat from the defendants.

Adejoh-Audu, a veteran journalist, activist and politician, had gone to court after altercations between him and Unuoha on election matters, after which the latter publicly threatened the spokesman to expect some unstated consequences.

The SDP Spokesperson had, on November 29, 2023, accused the police chief of collaborating with thugs to attack the interests of his party in the recently conducted governorship election in Kogi.

However, the police commissioner held a press conference the next day in Lokoja and gave Adejoh-Audu a 24-hour ultimatum to substantiate his allegations or “be ready to face the consequences of his actions.”

The SDP spokesperson had responded in a 17-paragraph document justifying his allegations.

An FCT High Court presided over by Justice Hamza Muazu, after listening to O. U. Salifu, lawyer to the SDP spokesman, in an ex-parte application, granted the order restraining the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police and the State Director of DSS from arresting or interfering with the liberty of the applicant.

The court has adjourned the matter to December 18, 2023, for the hearing of the motion on notice.

He gave the assurance on Sunday in Lagos during the 2023 Lagos Food Festival at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island.

The Governor was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

The festival’s theme for 2023 was “A Fusion of Flavours.”

He stated that his administration would remain committed to developing the agricultural industry.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the sector has seen various efforts and is prominently featured in the state’s THEMES Agenda.

He was pleased with the large turnout at the event, saying it represented the true spirit of Lagos.

According to him, the food festival provides a forum for Small and Medium Enterprises in agriculture and food to promote their products and network.

“The event is about young people mostly showing their talents and making money so we cannot be a society just sitting and complaining.

Politics / Alleged Forgery: Court Discharges, Acquits APGA National Chairman, Njoku by Esther125: 1:19pm On Dec 05, 2023
Justice Mohammed Madugu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Bwari, has dismissed all the forgery allegations levelled against the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) Chief Edozie Njoku by the Nigeria Police.

The Police had on November 22, 2022, charged Chief Njoku and the Youth leader of APGA, Chukwuemeka Nwoga, to court over a purported allegation of conspiring with others at large to alter a judgment of the Supreme Court delivered by Justice Mary Peter Odili (rtd).

Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Justice Madugu dismissed all the 14-count charges preferred against the APGA Chairman by the police.

The court held that due to “lack of sufficient and credible evidence, the prosecution has failed woefully to prove its case against the defendants.

“I find the 1st defendant, Chief Edozie Njoku and the 2nd defendant, Chukwuma Nwoga not guilty as charged, and therefore they have been discharged and acquitted” Justice Madugu ordered.

The defence counsel had urged the court to discharge and acquit the defendants because the police had failed woefully to discharge the burden of proof solely placed on them by law.

The court adopted the issue formulated by the defence counsel to determine whether the prosecution had proven its case against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.

By section 138 of the Evidence Act, the court noted that the prosecution is expected to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

In his judgment, Justice Madugu stated that “it is crystal clear that internal disputes in APGA had played a significant role in causing the complexity of the case.

In the 1st count, the court noted that being an allegation of criminal conspiracy, it must be proven by the prosecution with circumstantial evidence.

However, the court held that the prosecution witness did not produce any evidence linking the defendants with an agreement or conspiracy to commit the alleged offence.

“In accordance with section 178 of the penal code, the prosecution did not establish any dishonest intent following the letter Chief Njoku wrote to Justice Mary Peter Odilli, retired.

Politics / Contractor Finally Hands Over Second Niger Bridge To Tinubu Govt by Esther125: 11:01am On Dec 04, 2023
The Federal Government has taken delivery of the Second Niger Bridge from the contractor, Julius Berger, seven months after the previous administration inaugurated it.

The Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi, while addressing journalists shortly after he was conducted around the road and the facilities on Sunday by the Managing Director of Julius Berger, Dr Lars Richter, said he was satisfied with the level of work done.

Umahi, while commending the previous and present administration for doing a lot to bring the work to fruition, described the job as “impeccable, very beautiful and well completed”.

According to him, we have light issues, and we’ve put things together on how to permanently have light, especially at night.

“What we have agreed is to deploy solar solution in the coming weeks so that every night we don’t have to run diesel.

“The roads are going to be completed when we have completed the two interchanges, one is taking us off from Asaba town to cut off the traffic, and the other one is going to be done by Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Ltd to avoid Onitsha town and take you straight to Obosi.

“President Ahmed Tinubu is very committed to the project, and we are going to acquire more so that we can build service stations, filling stations, restaurants, supermarkets and other facilities as we see in the Western world.

“We are determined to do that; the need to do this with the interchanges is going to be a very smart one so that over the years we can have a beautiful and maintained road,” he said.

The minister further assured of security with the bridge by providing Closed-Circuit Television and some security personnel to provide security assistance within five minutes.

Richter said the event was a technical handover after the project was inaugurated by the former administration.

He said work was successfully completed in time and Julius Berger had delivered the highest quality of work.

Also speaking, the Director, Bridges Design and Construction, South, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr Bede Obioha, tasked the residents around the second Niger bridge to help secure the already installed facilities and those that are yet to be installed safely.

He commended the staff of his ministry and the contractors for a job well done, and urged the road users and the residents to abide by the rules of the road.

Politics / $750m World Bank Loan: FG Disburses N135bn To 36 States, FCT by Esther125: 9:53am On Dec 04, 2023
The Federal Government has disbursed N135.4 billion to states and the Federal Capital Territory following the second Independent Assessment of Results obtained under the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus.

The National Coordinator of the NG-CARES Programme, Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, conveyed this information in a statement on Sunday by Suleiman Odapu, the Information and Communication Officer at NG-CARES.

The NG-CARES initiative, supported by the World Bank with a budget of $750 million, is a multi-sectoral programme aimed at providing essential emergency relief to vulnerable and poor Nigerians, with a particular focus on supporting smallholder farmers and MSMEs severely impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Obaje noted that the fund allocation was linked to the results of states and the FCT in their efforts to assist the underprivileged under the NG-CARES initiative.

According to him, Nasarawa, Cross Rivers, and Zamfara emerged as the top performers, securing N13.6 billion, N10.9 billion, and N10.2 billion in the second round of the programme assessment.

”The top three best-performing states in this Second Round of Assessment are Nasarawa, which earned N13,697,828,496.96, Cross River N10,944,747,818.84, and Zamfara N10,231,055,267.82.

“This is a milestone achievement in the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration at providing funds towards addressing multi-dimensional poverty in the country,” Obaje noted.

Recall that in January 2022, former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo launched NG-CARES.

Osinbajo said, “the World Bank loan is in the order of $750m, and this will be over two years (2021-2023); the intervention allocation to each state is $20m and $15m to the FCT; there is also $15m for the Federal Cares Support Unit.”

Business / Atiku Denies Relationship With Intels by Esther125: 5:46pm On Dec 03, 2023
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has denied having any relationship with Integrated Logistic Services Nigeria Limited (Intels).

It was reported that Atiku is a beneficiary of the decision to rescind the contract cancellation between Intels and the federal government.

Reacting to the report in a post on his official Twitter account on Sunday, Atiku stated that he sold his shares in Intels in 2020 and also made his exit from the company public in January 2021.

“In January 2021, I made public the sale of my shares in Intels to the parent company, Orlean Investment Group.

“The phased sale of those shares that commenced in 2018 peaked in December 2020. Intels also made public my exit from the oil and gas logistics company, meaning that a different entity now owns those shares I sold.

“My divestment from the company that I co-founded has not been reversed. Consequently, I can’t, by any stretch of the imagination, be a beneficiary of the reinstatement of the boat pilotage monitoring business that was taken away from Intels by the Federal Government.

“Therefore, the insinuation that I’m a beneficiary of the decision to rescind the cancellation of the contract between Intels and the FG is untrue and should be seen for what it is: mischief,” he wrote.

Politics / Appeal Court Upholds Alex Otti’s Election As Abia Governor by Esther125: 3:52pm On Dec 02, 2023
The Court of Appeal in Lagos has dismissed the appeals brought by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and their governorship candidates against the election of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.

In a unanimous decision on Saturday, the three-man Appeal Court panel upheld the victory of Otti at the polls, saying that it conformed with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The appellate court ruled that petitions brought by the appellants lacked in merit, as they were like “a comedy skit brought to a democratic setting”.

The court said issues of political party membership is a pre-election matter, which also falls within the jurisdiction of the political party.

It further said since Otti joined the Labour Party, won its primary election and submitted his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he was qualified to contest.

On the issues of Bimodial Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, brought by the PDP and its candidate, the appeal court said the appellants failed to demonstrate or link their documentary evidence to the specific parts of the case.

The judgement has sparked celebration among the supporters of Governor Otti in some parts of the State.

Mubarak Akadiru, the son of a housemaid who was arrested by police detectives for the murder of a 62-year-old grandmother and former head teacher, Mrs Sidikat Adamolekun, in Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State, has told an Akure Magistrate Court why he killed her mother’s benefactor.

The defendant, who was 18 at the time, told the court that he repeatedly beat the deceased’s skull with a wooden stool when she caught him while attempting to steal her phone.

He said, “As usual, I went to the house to work and I later came back to steal her Samsung phone. “Unfortunately, the deceased caught me after I’d stolen the phone.”

Simon Wada, a police prosecutor, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on November 14, 2023, at 11:30 am, at Simiileolowa Quarters in Arigidi Akoko.

Politics / Tension Grips Nasarawa Over Supreme Court Judgement by Esther125: 10:20am On Dec 01, 2023
There is uneasy calm in Nasarawa State as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) await the ruling of the Supreme Court after the appeal court favoured incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Sule.

The APC in the state on Thursday expressed concern over the PDP’s purported plans to arrange ugly protests, overheat the polity, and produce havoc in the state.

The PDP had previously stated that the ruling party was tormented by its shadows.

Aliyu Bello, the APC’s state chairman, accused the PDP of inciting ethnic and religious hatred through protests aimed at generating disharmony among Nasarawa State residents who had been coexisting as citizens for a long time.

He alleged that since Governor Sule was declared the victor of the March 18 election, the PDP has continued to display divisive tendencies by mobilizing gullible and weak supporters who parade nude in the street and at the party’s secretariat.

“The poor women recruited to engage in this shameful act have been paid and convinced, that such equally primitive action has the spiritual powers to earn the party victory at the courts.

“So far, the gods or the deities and the spirits the PDP has been invoking have failed them, and will further fail them again at the Supreme Court,” he said.

Crime / Alleged Killer Of Rivers DPO Speaks From Hiding by Esther125: 11:28am On Nov 28, 2023
David Gift Okpala Okpolowu, popularly known as 2Baba, the wanted alleged cultist and murderer of Ahoada Division DPO, Bako Angbashim, has spoken from hiding and denied involvement in the DPO’s murder.

2Baba, in a voice note sent to the media in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said the news of the DPO’s murder came as a surprise to him, adding that he had nothing to do with it.

Recall that cultists terrorizing Rivers State’s Ahoada East Local Government Area killed Angbashim during an operation in the state and seized his severed corpse.

Following the occurrence, the state’s governor, Siminalayi Fubara, slammed a N100 million bounty on the culprit.

However, 2Baba stated in the voice note that he spoke to Angbashim a few hours before he was slain and that the news of the murder shocked him.

He said: “I want to tell the whole world that my hand is not in the murder of the DPO. All this while, I never wanted to talk about this, but people were very concerned, so I said let me tell my people the truth.

“I am not involved in the murder. It is just that the thing happened in my community road. The day it happened, I was not there. I was shocked when I heard what happened.”

Politics / We Remain Unshaken By Appeal Court Judgement – Delta APC by Esther125: 8:34am On Nov 26, 2023
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State has rejected the Appeal Court judgment on the state’s governorship election.

The party said it would challenge the judgement at the apex court.

The APC said in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Barrister Valentine Onojeghuo that it was confident that the mandate given to it by the good people of the State, who believe in its laudable programmes and the capability of its candidate, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, would be restored.

The past, which commended its team of lawyers for a good job, said it was hopeful of getting a favourable judgment at the apex court because it had a watertight case.

While commending its members for their steadfastness, support and loyalty, the party prevailed on them to remain calm and hopeful, assuring them that “there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

The statement further emphasised that “our stolen mandate will surely be restored. It is only a matter of time.”

The APC said the judgment of the Appeal Court cannot stand the test of time.

“We have no iota of doubt that we shall reclaim our mandate at the Supreme Court. We have absolute confidence in the apex court to do justice to our case,” it said.

Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has told the people of the state that he will never fail to fulfill his lawful duties as governor of the state.

He said that the Appeal Court decision demonstrated that the judicial arm of government was truly doing its job as an independent organization, as it was fair to all individuals regardless of tribal, political, or religious allegiance.

While praising the courts for performing a thorough and good job, Idris asked them to keep up the pace for the sake of the nation’s democracy and the country as a whole.

“This judgment has shown that the mandate of Kebbi people was given to them. This is an indication that Kebbi people have a good mind towards Kauran Gwandu and that’s why Almighty God is on their side,” he said.

Crime / Sexual Harassment Is A Corrupt Act, Attracts 7 Years Prison Term – ICPC Warns by Esther125: 10:10am On Nov 24, 2023
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), says sexual harassment is a corrupt practice that can result in a seven-year prison sentence.

Mr Clifford Oparaodu, the Commission’s Secretary, issued the warning in Abuja during a One Day Sensitization Workshop on Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Institutions.

He said that the ICPC considers sexual harassment to be a corrupt practice, thus victims must be aware of their rights and how to seek justice.

He expressed concern that sexual enjoyment had become “illegal tender” in many institutions.

“Sexual harassment is a form of corruption.

“It is a deviation from the norm for an official to use his/her office or position to demand, receive, obtain, or attempt to obtain any form of sexual gratification for him to perform his duties.

“Ideally, official duties ought to be carried out with integrity, good conscience, and diligence without the expectation of any unlawful benefit,” he said.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Hopes To Finally Defeat FG At Supreme Court On Dec 15 by Esther125: 6:56pm On Nov 23, 2023
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on Thursday expressed hope of victory on December 15 at the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court will on December 15 hear the appeal of the Federal Government against the judgment of the Appeal Court that discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges levelled against him.

In 2022, the appellate court declared as illegal and unlawful Kanu’s abduction from Kenya to Nigeria and quashed the entire terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

The court held that the Federal Government breached all local and international laws in the forceful rendition of Kanu to Nigeria, thereby making the terrorism charges against him incompetent and unlawful.

In a judgment in an appeal by Kanu, by Justice Oludotun Adefope-Okojie, the criminal charges by the Federal Government against Kanu were voided and set aside.

Displeased by the ruling, the Federal Government headed to the Supreme Court to contest the ruling of the Appeal Court.

The apex court had fixed December 15 to deliver judgment on the matter.

Kanu expressed hope of winning during his routine meeting with his legal team at the Department of State Services, DSS, facility in Abuja.

This was disclosed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a post on X.

According to Ejimakor: “UPDATE: Today, the Lead Counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) led my humble self & Prince Mandela Umegborogu on a crucial visitation with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS. Expectedly, Onyendu was well pleased with the recent stunning victory at Enugu & he expects no less on Dec 15 at SC.

“Upon the pogrom, you seized their properties in Rivers, cheated them on State creation, starved them of roads, railways & seaport, renditioned their Leader & called them a dot. Now, you trouble them with #demolitions. But you still wonder why they #agitate. Why not? #FreeMNK.”

Politics / Bayelsa Election: Your Comment Unfortunate – Sylva To Goodluck Jonathan by Esther125: 10:27am On Nov 19, 2023
The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, has criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan over his comment on the outcome of the just-concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Sylva described Jonathan’s comment on the election as unfortunate.

Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had won his reelection bid during last Saturday’s governorship election.

Congratulating Diri, Jonathan said his victory would further improve the security situation in the state.

The former president said he would have relocated his mother to Abuja if Diri had lost his reelection bid.

Reacting, Sylva wondered if the remark was made by the former president.

Recounting a comment by Wole Soyinka, Sylva said a hippopotamus can’t be taken out of a swamp.

Posting on X, Sylva wrote: “Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted.

“Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus.”

Politics / INEC Denies Achonu Access To Certified True Copies Of Election Documents by Esther125: 8:48am On Nov 19, 2023
The Labour Party in Imo State has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of denying its candidate in the November 11 election, Athan Achonu, access to certified true copies of documents used for the concluded election as required by law.

The opposition party made the accusation in a statement on Saturday, signed by Chibuikem Diala, Director of Media and Publicity for the Senator Athan Achonu Campaign Organisation.

The statement reads:” Our notice has been drawn to mischievous plans by Imo State INEC under Prof. Sylvia Agu to deny our legal team access to certified true copies of documents used for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State as required by law.

“This is after an official request has been made by our solicitors to the State INEC Office, duly acknowledged and received on November 15, 2023.

“It is pertinent at this stage to alert the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies of these devious delay tactics, which may be to further deny our party and the candidate of the Labour Party in the November 11 election justice. This is unacceptable and we request that INEC do the needful immediately, as time is of the essence.

“Some pertinent questions begging for answers include: If INEC does not have anything to hide and is willing to come to equity with clean hands, why then delay the release of the CTC of requested materials?

“INEC was so efficient in announcing the results of 27 LGA in less than 12 hours after the elections; why then is it taking the same INEC over 144 hours to issue the documents backing their pronouncements? One would expect a better and more efficient approach from the electoral body.

“We only hope that this delay is not a decoy by Imo State INEC and agents of the APC-led government to perfect their rigging by tampering with sensitive materials in INEC office. This strategy to deny the people of Imo State the opportunity to have a leader of their choice will not work, as we call on INEC to do the needful and stop taking Imolites for granted.

“Therefore, we also call on the security agencies and INEC, led by Prof. Mahmoud, to do all they can to ensure that the certified true copies are released as requested and timely too.

“While we wait for INEC to do the needful speedily, we further assure the caretaker governor in Imo State to enjoy his “Certificate of Return” only for a moment as he will soon return it to the rightful owner.”

Crime / 76-year-old Man Defiles, Impregnates Teenage Girl In Ogun by Esther125: 11:20am On Nov 18, 2023
A 76-year-old man, David Ogunsanwo, had been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

.ng learnt that the 16-year-old girl is currently five months pregnant.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

Adeleye, who expressed worry over the spate of defilement in the society, stated that the case would be charged to court.

The Commissioner assured that her ministry would follow the matter to ensure that justice is served.

The commissioner, who condemned the acts of sexual abuse in the country, appealed to victims to always speak out, even as she called on parents to stop withdrawing cases out of victimisation.

She recalled how a 12-year-old girl was defiled by two men, and the father withdrew the case from the police, regretting that the same girl had been violated again.

“We are aware that cases of violation and abuse are increasing. There’s a huge increase in these kinds of crimes, especially against children.

“The incidents of people going to police, reporting and withdrawing the case is also increasing. And we want to draw the attention of all parents, that if your child is a victim of violation, report the case to the police and do not withdraw it, because when you withdraw the case, it gives the perpetrator the leeway to continue to do it and also do it to other children.

“I am calling on the National Council of Women’s Society. We have a case of a 12-year-old girl, who has been violated before by two men. The case has been withdrawn by the father, and now she has been violated again by another person,” she regretted.

The former lawmaker said they should sensitise parents to stop withdrawing such cases “because our biggest problem is that when things like this happen, parents say they don’t want to make it public.”

Politics / Reverse Removal Of Osun Chief Judge – Group To Adeleke by Esther125: 7:31am On Nov 18, 2023
The Osun Masterminds, TOM, a civil society organisation, has demanded the immediate reversal of the removal of the Osun State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo.

.ng recalls that Justice Adepele Ojo was sacked by the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Thursday.

The sack, according to a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, followed a resolution by the Osun State House of Assembly on Thursday.

The Osun Assembly also directed the governor to swear in Justice Olayinka David Afolabi as the acting Chief Judge of the state.

However, TOM, during its November state of the state address by the Executive Director, Prof Wasiu Oyedokun Alli in Osogbo on Friday, appealed to Osun stakeholders to quickly call the Governor and the House of Assembly to order, in order to forestall a breakdown of constitutionality in the state.

It also added that if not done, Osun was headed for a dark abyss which should be risen against.

According to the statement, “The news of the House of Assembly’s resolution to remove the Chief Judge and ask the Governor to swear in a replacement, in acting capacity, left us dazed.

“This is because we believed that the 8th Assembly, populated by true youths, should be looking to set positive standards for legislation, to convince everyone that indeed, youths have the capacity to lead.

“Unfortunately, the Osun State House of Assembly is quickly turning itself into not just a rubber-stamp Assembly, but a willing tool in the hands of the Executive, used to legitimize any and every illegality that the Executive wants to perpetrate.

“We call on all men and women of goodwill, who have the love of the State at heart, to quickly call the Governor and the House of Assembly to order, to forestall a breakdown of constitutionality in our dear State.

“The removal of the Chief Judge must be reversed if we are to remain a State governed by laws and not the fiats of just a few privileged individuals. Osun State should never become a lawless State where we take decisions just to satisfy the whims and caprices of some persons without any regard for the provisions of our laws and our constitution.”

The group, while warning against the perceived illegality in the sack of the Osun CJ, added that such acts had the tendency to escalate into unrest and threaten the peace of the state.

While revealing that it had reliable information of clandestine plans to physically assault Justice Adepele Ojo if she showed up at work, TOM warned those behind it to shelve the plan.

They warned Justice Olayinka David Afolabi not to allow himself to be used as a tool to denigrate the judicial institution in the state.

.ng also gathered that the swearing-in of Justice David Olayinka Afolabi as the Acting Chief Judge of Osun State did not hold as scheduled on Friday.

Politics / Appeal Court Affirms Bala Mohammed’s Election As Bauchi Governor by Esther125: 1:32pm On Nov 17, 2023
The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has affirmed the election of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Bala of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the March 18 governorship election.

But the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sadique Abubakar rejected the outcome of the election and sought redress in the court.

The Bauchi State Governorship Election Tribunal had dismissed the APC candidate’s petition, upholding the election of Bala.

But Sadique dragged the matter to the appeal court, insisting that the March 18 poll was marred by irregularities.

However, ruling on the matter on Friday, the panel of three justices, who were unanimous, upheld the verdict of the tribunal.
