Thanks … I would just get one.
Get the AIP from Halifax and compare it with offers you'll get from the broker. You never can tell.

1. Does a 2year old born in the UK need international passport to apply for a dependant visa?
No, birth certificate should suffice.

SerendipityHere:
Hi everyone.
I have a few questions please.

How do we pay house rent as a couple in order for it to reflect on our credit score? Do we split it in half and pay our halves to the agent individually or one person makes the total transfer?

How do we make it reflect on a rental exchange partner like Canopy or Credit Ladder?

Also on Council Tax, We both have a total of 174 to pay how do we pay it? One person transfers or we split it and each of us make the payment to the council account individually?

Please help me out on these questions. Thank you
You can open a joint account, you both pay your share into the account and pay your bills from the joint account.

Further clarification, by non-interest I'm referring to a finance option that does not require earning or giving interest, as my religious inclination does not encourage it
Check the mortgage thread, there was a discussion along that line few weeks back.

In her case, it was pure greed...... Because they offer you credit, does not necessarily mean you should take it all........

Did she have to buy a £12,000 vehicle (that she clearly could not afford)....... What happened to buying a vehicle of £2000.........

I get offered loans on the average of twice a week (I simply delete the emails).... Also car finance deals, I simply look the other way........ 😜

Financial discipline is key and very important, in all you do........ 🤣🙄

You must be on expired kolos, to take a 118 118 loan (49.90 APR)........ 😁😜
The holy grail of credit usage.

Hi all
I have been an ardent reader of this thread and have picked up one or two tips and have made up my mind to finally get a house but i still have some questions im really yet to come around
im 29 years and have an agreement in principle with lloyds bank for upto 200k,
im currently renting with bills inclusive a property of 500
i have saved upto 25k as deposit and i think i might afford a property of upto 150k
considering im single is it worth it to get a house please or continue saving please?
if yes now that i have an AIP how do i know the appropriate offer to put in for a house

i have many others but will seek your guidance on the above for now
thanks
1. Your affordability is the most important thing, if you've ran the numbers and it stack up wrt affordability, I'll say you can go ahead with the purchase. Timing the market is difficult if not impossible to achieve. Like the popular saying, the best time to buy was yesterday, the next best time is today.

2. Your post suggests you are buying an old build, so I'll say get a valuation report added to your survey. It will cost a few hundred pounds more, but it will be worth it. You can then use the figure from your valuation report as a guide on what to offer. You can also check price of similar properties in that area. The state of the property as revealed by the home survey can also be used as a guide on what to offer. All the best with your purchase.

Bolded is the way to go for typical CC. But for 0% purchase cards, you can actually spread out the balance on the card. The important thing is to clear the balance before the promotional period ends. It is actually a great tool to have if one is disciplined enough to manage it.

There are specialist mortgages like islamic mortgage, speak to a mortgage advisor. Link below lists some providers.

Appreciation post!!!

Special appreciation to all that have taken their time to freely share their experience with others on this platform, this has helped many myself inclusive in settling down and subsequently growing in the UK. A journey that would naturally have been a difficult one was greatly eased by your selflessness and desire in seeing others succeed in areas where you have in the time past struggled.

My modest growth in the few years I've lived here can be greatly traced to this platform. I maxed out my ISA allowance for the first time in the last tax year (hopefully 1st of many to come), became a homeowner early last year + a substantial career boost.

I'm echoing what others have said in the past that the wealth of resources available on this platform is unbelievable, underestimate it at your own peril. To those just coming in, it can only get better from here on, take advantage of every resource available here, in the midst of those banters are life changing gems. Wish us all success and growth in this land. May we all eat the good of the land.

Does anyone have information about parking at Heathrow Airport

How far are car parks from the airport?
Like how much for a 5hrs parking?
Any restrictions worth knowing before hand?
Will I still need to take uber because of luggages?

I understand I should avoid driving to/in London as much as possible but I just want information about parking in/around Heathrow airport.

Thanks
Not far and you won't need Uber just get trolley for your luggage. Check Heathrow website for the parking fee, but I think it should be sub £20 for that duration. You can also check your car for low emission zone compliance.

Let me ask a silly question

If you have a credit balance of £100 to pay by Sept 4th, 2023 and a minimum repayment amount of £25.

What will happen

A) if you only pay £25?

B) you pay £60?

C) Pay £25, then pay another £50 by 30th and pay the £25 balance by October 5?

Answers will be appreciated.

Thank you
You'll incur charges on what is left of your balance by the due date but if you clear out the balance before the due date no matter how staggered, there will be no interest to pay.

Thanks brother.

I've checked, my vehicle it meets the ULEZS emissions standards. Please see attached and advice for next line action I can take to resolve the issue.
Looks like you have been charged for driving through the congestion zone and not for ULEZ as my earlier post suggested.

Please anybody living in London around SW should put it me through. I went to see a friend of mine at the deptford last week, and I went there with my car from Birmingham. today now I received a letter on congestion charging ( penalty charge notice) £180 , this is strange to me because I was not pack on the road neither taking a bus lane. I strictly follow the Speed limit seen on the road within the 20Mile per hour. I reached the venue before I stopped the car. moreover, my friend is new in London, he lodge in Airbnb with his wife. Is it possible for me to challenge charge by writing them back.
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/

Check if your car meets the emission requirements, if it does you can appeal, if not just pay up asap.

Well well, This thread came alive in the blink of an eye. Congratulations to all who have closed deals and best of luck to those in process.

Been following, learning and waiting to share good news but I am dealing with a Conveyancer from the pit of hell. My offer 4.1% 5 year deal (75% LTV) is now looking like it will expire in my hands.

Ahead Ahead finally.
Reach out to your lender via your mortgage broker if you have one for an extension, they will usually extend your offer by about 3 months.

Pls house, which network is cheaper in calling Nigeria from UK. My MTN is charging me #150/min when calling and #50/min when receiving. This is costing me so much. Any cheaper alternative will be appreciated. Thanks
Try white calling app, 9.5p per minute to naija.

I really like using the White Calling App for international calls and sending airtime. Try it out, they give you free credit 😊 https://whitecalling.co/install

Hi all, I have an upcoming PGCE presentation on an interview day. This is an interview for teacher training for one year. The subject is physics. Honestly I love physics. But my interest is also on the funding available for those willing to be trained as physics teacher. Now my major problem is my African intonation, infact Igbo intonation. I have been adjusting it with little improvement. This presentation will be done by me physically on that day. Has anyone any suggestions to give, thank you. I just finished my master and on a tier 2 dependent visa
I believe what you term intonation is your accent and you should be proud of it. Just speak clearly and if you can help it slowly. It takes time and practice but you'll be fine eventually. I'm sure you've heard the Scots, Irish and even the Scouse (Liverpool) speak, they all speak English with an accent. There is nothing wrong with your Igbo accent, practice your pronunciations well and you'll be fine.

Hello All… is this time actually the best period to go on mortgage?. I got 2 options from Barclays Bank so far 5.75 percent (fixed for 2 years) and 5. 00 percent fixed for 5 years with 10 percent deposit on a tier 2 visa with just 2 years residence in uk..is this a fair deal considering the market of today and future forecast

I have a question pls. If you are using isusu as a means of raising money for house deposit, we know it comes In bulk , how do you explain it to the mortgage guys ? I mean the inflow as it’s not salary savings. Also if you sell a property In Naija or move part of the fund from Naija, how do you explain it ? Would you call two of them as gifts ?
Payslips and bank statements dating back 3 months is the norm, so time your transaction such that the inflow won't reflect on your statement in that 3 month window.

I thought insurance would cover all the little work here and there?
Not at all, building insurance does not cover regular maintenance. It is for eventualities like flood, fire/arson incidents, blown roof etc. If content insurance is added to the policy, then the contents of your house like your furnitures, electronics, etc will also be covered.

I dont know if i am missing something. But why is everyone fighting for lenders giving as low as 5% deposit, that means lender will be giving u as much as 95% ltv. Do we understand that the lower ur deposit, the more you'll end up paying as interest and the longer you will pay interest?

Why arent we fighting to have enough cash to pay deposit, so we can pay as much as 30% deposit?

Abi am i wrong mathematically
Affordability and lower entry barrier! The 5% deposit presents a perfect opportunity for many to become home owners thereby putting them in a position to benefit with increased equity when the prices of their homes appreciate.
On interest, not exactly the case as you can reduce your overall interest by either overpaying the mortgage or reducing the mortgage term all together from the get go. This however will mean higher monthly payments, but over the life of the mortgage, you would have saved quite a chunk that will otherwise have gone towards interest payments.

Woah...bit rude there, dont you think?

It's OK not to like the UK,its a bit rubbish at the minute.

They say 1st gen immigrants are more patriotic than anyone else but let me just say this...

If you ever start to think of yourself as an Englishman, remember Shamima Begum and remember the British Citizens who have been abandoned in the Sudan when they flew embassy staff out last week. When asked, they said the peopleleft behind will have local help.

What sort of country abandons its citizens?
But why the bolded in the first place, British yes I'll understand but English no way, even the British as far as I'm concerned is a secondary identity. That's why I find it funny when I see folks forming accent and trying to be more English than the queen abi na king now. Truth is the society and the system knows who you are there is no faking it till you make it in this case, when the chips are down you will be reminded of who you truly are. Best to embrace your identity from the get go and if the validation and acceptance that people seek do come along then it will be an advantage as against the disappointment that is almost certain to come when the system does what it does best. May we all have the courage to embrace who we truly are and find meaning and purpose in our identity.
