benuejosh: Funny enough, this is the most less stressful farming to venture into.
The only issues with sesame farming is that the moment it is time to harvest and you extend the time even if it is by just a week, you're sure of loosing almost half of the farm because it may spill open and then the whole grains will otilo. that's it... U need to be fast..because of it's shattering ability |

Good day fellas, I want to take u guys on my journey of preaching good Agronomic practices in farming. On the 14th of August, I took the soil sample of the abandoned field, I did the test myself because I have a soil testing kit, I found out that the soil ia deficient in Nitrogen, so I am set. On the 15th of August, i started planting. 4 cups of pure sesame seed ( ncriben 04e ) was planted with the help of some young kids in my area. I used dibbling method because the land was strong. Some boiz done turn am to football field

Fulani herdsmen don't fear juju or even guns... The only thing that keep them from my cassava and Maize section is my laminated Quran writing.... There no even want make the leaves of my maize touch their skin, because they believe that once they trespass, it is as simple as there are fighting with God directly...try this method and see wonders. |

siant: Manual weeding ke? Methinks pre emergent lasts for 3 months after application before weeds can grow. By the way, why controlling weeds manually rather than using contact herbicide. cost bro.... Soon dry season will come, we are Weeding manually now because, when the grasses inside dry, herdsmen can just throw fire into it during dry season.... Post emergence herbicide like potassun and gallant supper is now 10k per litre, and we have 20 hectare... 3 litre per hectare...that's expensive o... So manual Weeding is cheaper |

Hmmm...next time , plant drought tolerant varieties like seedco sc719... Then also, make sure u run the soil test before investing ur money... Agriculture is very hard to start, but if u start the right way u will become unstoppable.... May God bless our hustles Jonnic1: Thank you @ farmboimarkus. Your post is highly inspirational. I feel you because I have been where you are now. I had over 8 hectares of maize farm last year after spending more than N1,500,000 (N1.5M) but due to a number of factors like the fertility of the soil which was not obvious at the onset, the harvest was not what we expected and I lost my investments. I spent money on land preparation, herbicide, manure (N200,000), fertilizers (NPK, UREA) etc, supergro, Biowish, humic and fluvic acid, insecticides/pesticides (Army worm), Seeds, labour, food, etc. it was a traumatic experience for me. But I did not give up. I changed farm land, learnt from my experience and this year the difference is clear. DON'T give up. Fluctuation in rain fall can be very devastating.......................... Am sure I did not make up to N600k. |
