Somebody call me and asked that I should give him example of crops with short gestational period....There are thousands of them...
Watermelon, corn, Beans, Soyabean, cucumber and many more.... They all mature within 3-4 months after planting.

I will advise you to go for Bean... watermelon and others are higher technical. They need constant monitoring or supervision. Why you should cultivate beans along with your Plantain... Try and do your survey by visit market around you. Ask for how much they are selling Pain of Bean. Not only Bean, even Soyabean too ask.

If you plant half of derical of Bean...if all thing Bean equal u can get a paint of Bean during your harvest... meanwhile, Beans doesn't affect the growth of your plantain and it doesn't serve as weed to it. 3-4 months your Beans is ready...

Try and practice this method and see how you will be financially independent...money will keep rolling into your account from time to time....

It is not a good idea to mix cassava with plantain. If you intend to plant cassava and plantain, why not plant them separately? And mix your plantain with crops that have short gestational period...

Field Preparation For Plantain Plantation

In case you are cultivating large scale of farm and you find it very difficult get workers to do the clearing for for you. Or you notice that there speed of work is not fast enough for u. You can engage ploughs, to do the clearing for you. Ploughs is kind of agricultural machine that as attachment tools at back, see below picture.

The machine can crush the weed and suppress and turn the soil upside down. The mode of operation of this tools is different from Bulldozer that will clear the top soil and pack it at one corner of the farm.

It is very good idea to mix beans with your plantain. It doesn't take much space. It is coil in nature... All you need to do is monitoring it growth. Few weeks after planting you will be notice some pest...try and apply a very good pesticides to it. This should be done on weekly basis. Because those pests are very stubborn. Once you overcome issue of the best you are good to go.

Crop Mixing

During cultivation of plantain Plantation.... You can mix different crops such as corn, bean and crops which can harvest within 3-4 months...

During the land preparation, its advisable to burn your farm as soon as you are done with the clearing... If it forest, you will need to allow it to dry for 3 weeks before you set it on fire for proper burning.

If you burn your field before planting, and if it properly burn.. You don't need to clear your farm till next 3-4 months. By this time your mix crops should be ready for harvest...

You need to consider Beans as your mix cropping too. If you go extra mile by plough the soil. This will improve the yield of Beans and Plantain... You can plant both corn and beans as a mix crop with Plantain. Hope you know how much you bought your beans this year. And there is no any sign that the price will come down in coming year.....

Plantain Season is approaching soon...

This is best period to search for land. Loamy soil or plaster soil is best for cultivation of plantain. If you can able to get mould or clay soil it also good. Also swamp soil is another best soil for cultivation......

A very good soil for cultivation of Cocoa it also good for cultivation of plantain....

To get a suitable land...if you are reside in a city move nearby rural area around you. Approach the chiefs or Baale, king, obi or Emir....tell them about your intentions and I am very sure you will be allocated....pls make sure you see the original land owner. You may decide to buy or lease all depends on your finance capacity....get all necessary documents..after all these you are good to go...

If you can manage to procure swamp make sure you start clearing during dry season. Because that is only period it will be easier to burn.

Note! Not all the soil are suitable for cultivation of plantain....if you are digging your soil like 5ft and you are see stones or granite or anything stone that kind of soil is not suitable. The land will be too hot for the crop which will affect the out put....

Please keep this in mind....

The next is clearing, this should be done during the dry season too to enable you set it on fire....Ashes is very reach in nutrient for the growth of plantain...

As you know there is no specific price for plantain in market, but the market is determine by market force...The market u sell your plantain determine the market price.

In general the price has fall from may/June when we sell 60k per bunches...now it should be between 20-25k per bunch.....

For you to determine which market you will sell your goods. Once you reach market and you Lorries full of plantain...don't wait there just move to another market where you sell less vehicle brings plantain to market. Must of market located at border of city always occupy by large numbers of Lorries. While must of inner market will have less vehicle bring in Plantain...
At every market law if demand and supply will set in. That is why you sell the price you buy certain commodity will be different from others....

For you to determine where to sell your crops don't sell at market closer to your farm, also don't sell at market you notice there are in flow of large quantities of vehicles. This is because they will force the price down automatically.

I don't know your location, I would have suggest a market for you. But I am very sure that next city closer to your farm doesn't have a single market it will two or three.
Just look for the one that is closer to where consumer reside. You will definitely make smile to bank

From Monday till Saturday....it all depends on sizes of farm you are managing.....that is why if you call me sometime it may not be reachable during day time...I always on the farm and there is poor network in my farm...

If you are your farm I'd between 1-5 acres of land you can visit there twice in a week.

Is that your main source of income or you have another means of incomes. If it going to be only source of income you will need to mix your plantain with another crops with short list span. In my previous post I think I have mentioned some of crops you can mix with your plantain.

If you are less busy and you have time to visit your farm at lease 5 days in a week, you can mix it with Tomato � or peppers.

Every year there is always scarcity of certain crops for anybody to know certain crops that will scarce that year will involve define intervention.
Some years back it was Tomato. Sometimes is rice, sometimes is cassava. This very year I can say it cassava and Plantain. Because ever since I have been into plantain cultivation I have never sell plantain with amount we sell I this year. Dozen of big bunches sold for 70k.....

What I can say it that you can cultivate Plantain been your interested crop and mix it with any crop you like that will give less stressed.

At end of the day you can't loss anything.

Pls what is best chemical I can use to clear stubborn weed on my farm. There is one stubborn weed on my farm, I don't know it name or it phylum. But it common mustly in all farm. It body full of PINS. U it very difficult to cut without been pin youthand or body.
I have different type of chemical such Glyphosate Paraforce and many, this weed has developed resident against these chemicas. I will send your it picture tomorrow...

Hello Tomi2000, I'm still anticipate pictures of weed you promised to send. Anyway, the best chemical that can kill mostly all weed is mixture of Glyphosate and 2,4-D. You need to be extra careful when apply it...if it touch your plantain it can kill it...
