Health › Some Causes Of Kidney Failure And Cancer In Nigeria by Evaress(op): 10:25pm On Aug 08
Kidney disease and Cancer are now becoming one of the fast rising disease in Nigeria. It has killed many and many are still battling with this disease. Some of the causes of these diseases are not really coming from us or what we eat, some of the causes are coming from our farmers and our food/fruit vendors. Farmers using chemicals to hasten the growth of their crops and food vendors using harmful preservatives to preserve their crops. Lets not forget the sale of fake and expired food products. Below are some of the list of preservatives they are using;

1) Beans - Sniper or dangote cement.
2) Palm oil - Red dye + water.
3) Fried Plantain chips - Either transformer oil to save cost or vegetable oil + nylon to make it shiny and hard.
4) Fufu - Klin i.e detergent to ferment cassava in hours instead of days.
5) Kpomo - formalin to preserve it further.
6) Fresh fish - Industrial dye.
7) Unripe pineapple and banana - ripening in hours with chemicals.
😎 Mango - ripening overnight by pouring inside smelly gutter waters.

These are but a few, meanwhile, Nigerian yam, beans are banned across parts of Europe for containing excess pesticides used by farmers without proper measurements.

We virtually consume these on daily basis, and result today is unprovoked kidney, Cancer and liver damage.
Beware of your food vendors in Nigeria!!

Egg is rated the best source of Protein we all need. Nutritionist advice the intake of like 5 or more Eggs in a week for a healthy and complete source of protein your body will need.

thanks for sharing. Insightful!

It's wild how we've been brainwashed about beans being a plant protein source.

Are you a nutritionist?
i'm still a learner. Beans is a plant protein but it doesn't have the 9 essential amino acid a complete protein should have. Its not a strong protein. Soybean is a way better choice and a complete, healthy and affordable source of protein but note all plant protein still need animal protein to make it healthier. most plant protein are low in methionine and bioavailability. Animal protein are the excellent source of protein and amino acids.

Thanks for the lesson.

But major issue why people consume more carbs is due to standard of living.

Carb is cheaper and what most can afford.

Many people know the right food to eat,
They know what is good for them.

But lack the ability to afford them in the right quantity.
soybean is cheap and an excellent source of good plant protein

This OP just de shade us for here😂. See as e make everybody de fear. Protein in our foods are gradually phasing out, because of the cost. These things should be affordable if agriculture, livestock and the economy are favorable. Eat wetin you see sha, but be moderate. Naija!
go for Soybean which is better than white and brown beans. Soybean is cheap and a very healthy and complete plant protein

What about adding original honey to the garri instead of sugar?
honey is healthier than table sugar but it still contains sugar. Just that it is packed with antixodiants that your body also needs. Honey is a better choice but in low quantity though.

So what does Fufu and Egusi gives to the body? I will like to know? Protein, Carbohydrates or Fiber?
fufu is carb. Egusi is plant protein with minerals so the combo is good too but the egusi should be higher in ratio with leaves inside✅

DrAda:
In a country with very poor food security, this may be targeted at the wrong audience.

Also, there is quite a bit of misinformation in this post, so I took the liberty of asking ChatGPT to address some of the claims, particularly within the context of our local environment.

1. “Beans is more carbohydrate than protein, therefore it isn't really a healthy source of protein.” — FALSE
A food does not have to contain more protein than carbohydrate to qualify as a good protein source. Beans are widely recognised as an important plant-based protein source. They also provide complex carbohydrates, fibre, folate, iron, potassium and other nutrients.

2. “Beans contains little protein.” — MISLEADING
Cooked beans typically provide about 7–9 g of protein per 100 g, depending on the variety. A normal serving can therefore contribute a meaningful amount of protein to the diet.

3. “Healthy proteins are found in eggs, fish and meats.” — INCORRECT
Eggs, fish and meat are excellent sources of high-quality protein, but healthy protein is not limited to animal protein. Beans, lentils, peas, nuts and seeds are also recognised sources of healthy plant protein.

4. “Rice + beans = carbohydrate + carbohydrate with fibre and little protein.” — MISLEADING
Rice and beans actually make a useful nutritional combination because their proteins complement each other. Legumes are relatively rich in lysine but lower in methionine, while cereals such as rice have the opposite pattern. Eating them together therefore improves the overall amino-acid profile of the meal.

5. “The ratio of beans should be higher than rice.” — THERE IS NO SUCH UNIVERSAL RULE
There is no scientifically established beans-to-rice ratio that everyone should follow. Appropriate portions depend on age, energy requirements, activity level, nutritional status, health conditions and the overall diet.

6. “Rice has a high glycaemic index and digests very fast.” — OVERGENERALISATION
The glycaemic index of rice varies considerably according to the type of rice, processing and method of preparation. Not every type of rice has the same glycaemic index, and eating rice as part of a mixed meal can also alter the glycaemic response.

7. “Garri has a high GI and breaks down carbohydrates very fast.” — OVERSIMPLIFIED
The glycaemic response to garri can vary according to processing, preparation, quantity consumed and what it is eaten with. Glycaemic index should not simply be interpreted as how quickly a food “breaks down carbohydrates.”

8. “Carbohydrates are converted to glucose and can spike blood sugar, so carbohydrate intake should be limited.” — MISLEADING
Conversion of digestible carbohydrate to glucose is normal physiology. Carbohydrates are an important source of energy. What matters is the type and quantity of carbohydrate, portion size, overall dietary pattern and the individual's metabolic health.

9. “Beans doesn't really spike sugar on its own; what you pair it with is the problem.” — NOT QUITE CORRECT
Beans contain carbohydrates and therefore can raise blood glucose. However, because they contain fibre, resistant starch and protein and generally have a low glycaemic index, they tend to produce a slower and more gradual rise in blood glucose than many refined carbohydrate foods.

10. “The best pairing with beans is eggs, fish, meat, plantain, vegetables and fruits.” — NO SINGLE ‘BEST’ PAIRING EXISTS
Beans can form part of many nutritionally balanced meals. Interestingly, plantain is also predominantly a carbohydrate food, so recommending beans with plantain while describing beans with rice as “carbohydrate + carbohydrate” is inconsistent.

Most importantly in the Nigerian context

In a country where food insecurity and affordability of animal-source foods are significant concerns, describing beans as containing “little protein” or suggesting that only eggs, fish and meat provide “healthy protein” is particularly problematic. Beans are an affordable, culturally acceptable and valuable source of plant protein, in addition to providing fibre, complex carbohydrates and important micronutrients.

The appropriate public-health message should therefore be dietary diversity, appropriate portions and balanced meals—not that beans are “not really a healthy source of protein.”
if you need a complete plant protein that can provide you the 9 essential amino acid, go for Soybean or chia seed✅

Ideyontop:
Pls stop! Your comment is wrong and misleading.

First you cannot compare yourself ( if you are a man) to a woman in terms of vulnerability to being " chased".

That being said, it's a non negotiable responsibility to be faithful in a relationship and also It's a very not out of place to expect a reward for being faithful. Infact she is entitled to it, and if you are a wise man and understand your partner is faithful, you ought to celebrate her. For ladies especially, being faithful takes a very conscious effort to resist some evil men that are out there to defile ladies. Infact some even consciously go after married women because they have no souls left in them.

First God will bless her for being faithful and if she happens to be with a man that values the precious person that she is, then that is great. A faithful woman is like a precious jewel.

You cannot compare a woman that is faithful who is like diamond and an unfaithful one that is like an ordinary pebble?
god bless you

Going though this comments you'll understand the level of shallow thinkers in this forum.
People really need to discover who they are...this actually means going beyond your physical aspect into a more logical approach.
The reason why we have weak men in the society (like these comments on this section) is because they are focused more on the physical being & emotions instead of being philosophical and logical in their reasoning.
You attract your Likes!
Why should someone you consider your equal be giving attention to strangers in the first place you?
Is she a thing, or an object that has no guardiance??
Can't she stand on her feet?
Is she with no brain?
Is loneliness a biological disorder?

Let's be factual:
In a lay man term, explain the word "being faithful?"
The earlier you realize than Humans are advanced animals species with intelligence, the better you mirror down your mind down on what goes under the legs or pant. There's 90% higher probability chance of both genders having more than 5 partners in their lifetime whether in relationships/married or single.

Since we are trying to discover ourselves, This is my counsel to men:
- If you have a woman that spends 70% of income(her money or your money) on makeups, bags, clothes gadgets and jewelry, you are finished.
- If you have a woman that is more worried about her appearance in the public and nervous about what passersby thinks about her, you are a goner!
- If you still succumb to their childish characters and feneminity tantrums..just to please her, you need to discover your mission on this planet.
A certain religion has made strong men useless. Macho men has lost their logical compass to critically think, That's why they use the word "god fearing men" to manipulate them.
Strong men don't need emotional support. If she is not adding anything meaningful, ie: Financially, Physically, Intellectually (critical thinkers), Vocally, Builders, you're on a lost course.

If you're a lady I really pity your mentality. You are npt doing anymore any favors by being faithful. You don't owe anyone but yourself. God forbid I m3et someone like you. So being good is on conditions of being appreciated or favored? If you value yourself and you're a lady with principles and morals you will never have such mentality.

You're sounding like a child who is putting on a show of best behavior because they want to be rewarded by their parents. Such kids do worse when no one is watching or when they feel no one is watching and same goes for women with your type of mentality.

And who told you men don't get hit on? Even at my age I still get blinding green lights every day and almost everywhere I go but that doesn't mean I will give in and start pursuing something with everyone of them. Even though I'm single, I get class, boundaries and principles. The way some of you people reason like 6 year olds on this forum

Loose yourself to every Tom, Dick and Harry that's your cup of water. Faithful women don't try to be faithful, it's just who they are naturally and that's obviously not you undecided
lmao well you are right. She is doing that for herself and for her godly principles but in any case, getting chased by numerous men the temptation is too high, so faithful women still deserves more

Men should respect women that choose to remain faithful to only them because everytime a lady steps out, she gets hit by up to like 10 different men and she will keep saying No to them because of One man she is trying to be faithful to. Is it easy to be chased everytime? We all know men hardly gets chased.
