QuietMynd:Government has been regulating the banking sector, has it failed?. The government listened to poachers like you and gave electricity to the private sector under a very dubious and shambolic process, how is electricity today after almost a decade of privatization?. These things are about formulating the right policies. Sectors such as electricity and trade market of any country are very sensitive and vital to economic development and cannot just be left for capitalists to run. |
Sizzorkay:That is what happens in an unregulated market, absolutely no price control. |
slimthugchimee2:We cannot forever remain stuck with the primitive idea that increment in national minimum wage will cause hyperinflation or economic crisis. That is simply government propaganda. Is it today that Nigeria has been reviewing it's minimum wage?. Yes, removal of susidy will result in price hikes on the short term, but at least, if the minimum wage is significantly increased, many Nigerians will be able to afford their needs. Nothing wrong in a minimum wage of N60k. |
lebuhsi:FG should totally remove fuel subsidy and redirect the funds towards increment in minimum wage and reasonable consequential adjustment of salaries. This is one way to assuage public anger at such an unpopular policy. |
PRISTINEMUSCLES: You think I care? ![]() I merely corrected a misconception. If you don't like it, it's your cup of tea. ![]() |
Abdoulshehu:The only problem I see(if you ever get shortlisted) is your chronic ulcer. That is bound to cause issues, and I will advice you not to join the army unless you find a way to manage it. You having a slight body frame is not a problem as long as you are fit . You can be skinny, but still meet the army height, weight and BMI criteria; though from your post, I guess you don't meet up in that aspect either(if you are "smallish and light", I interpreted it as being short and malnourished). That is another problem. |
PRISTINEMUSCLES:Hefty men?? I don't know what you have been reading or seeing, but you just cracked me up ![]() No be only hefty men. |
ugo4u:If the US hits Iranian oil facilities (which I highly doubt), then we could see a surge of oil prices to $150/barrel,as Iran's ouput of over 2million b/d will be taken out completely. If only we could find a way to jerk up our oil output to 2.7-2.8 million b/d within this period. |
lebuhsi:Bonny light crude just hit $73/barrel I told you we were gonna get as high as $80 this week. ![]() |
AskiaHarem:Please remove that Ojukwu picture. |
Happy 1000th page everyone. ![]() Thank God I was able to comment on the 1000th page. I dedicate this comment to our fallen heroes, told and untold. To those whose sweat and blood has wetted the North East in the fight against Boko Haram. To those who shiver and gnash their teeth at night in frigid harmattan cold, lying in trenches, feeding on miserly rations and marrying their guns, protecting the soul of this nation. To the millions of displaced citizens all over the country, driven from their homes by the hellish enterprises of terror and banditry. To those here on this thread, who have contributed their little quota, over the years, supporting our gallant men at the frontlines and insulting the incompetence of the military brass and the government(s). To everyone here, every Patriot, who only wish the best for this country. I salute you all. You too are heroes, in your own little way. You care that much enough to open your browser everyday, come on Nairaland, and open this thread in support of the sacrifice our troops have made and are still currently making. It is my believe that one day, Boko Haram will be nothing more but a painful memory and those who sponsor and support terrorism will face their reckoning, as my teacher would say, "Every Napoleon shall surely meet his Waterloo". Nigeria has become too big to fail, I strongly believe it, and no manner of vile intrigues by international collaborators, aided by fifth columnists within the country, can bring our great nation down. Salute to you guys. Salute to Bidexiii, the chief of this thread. Salute to our gallant troops and fallen heroes. Salute to the Nigerian Armed Forces. Salute to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Salute to the continent of Africa. |
snrman:Of course everyone knows that Iran is behind the strike. What is baffling most people is; From where was the attack launched?, and How did the drones evade the most expensive aerial defense systems in the solar system?. If I were the Saudi crown prince, I'd start setting up the gullotine by now, because some "military" heads don't deserve the benefits of being attached to such incompetent necks. At least, beheading is something the Saudis seem to be good at. |
lionel4power:Let's see how tomorrow goes in the oil market. Though I do believe oil prices will increase significantly not just as a result of the drone attacks, but also due to increasingly disruptive Iranian activities in the Arabian gulf these past weeks. Saudi sent the Houthis back to the 17th century? How come they missed the advanced drones used by the Houthi rebels in the recent attacks?, How come the sophisticated Lockeed Martin aerial defense systems that the US charged Saudi Arabia everything short of Prophet Mohammed's knee caps for couldn't prevent even a single drone from carrying out those strikes?; If the drones made a over 2000km journey from Iran, then the Saudis should have noticed(except of course, they and their radars were all sleeping when the drones were flying above their heads), and if it is from the Houthis,it is even more embarrassing.Of course they can bomb a country every day for three years because they can afford it. I am yet to see any sophistication in the Saudi SFs or Intelligence, or would you call that Kperoogi scandal sophistication?, the Turks basically set them up. As for the BH issue, I do agree with you that except new strategies are adopted, and maybe those crop dusters finally arrive from the US,then there is very high likelihood that this war will continue in it's current form. |
ugo4u:Maybe it's because they know more about BH than we do, afterall, BH recruits quite heavily from Chad. Interestingly, after all these years, these fearless Chadian gladiators haven't been able to secure the dozens of islands on their side of the Lake Chad where BH fighters use as hideouts. Didn't their President, Derby, once orchestrate a scam ceasefire and make off with millions of dollars of our money?, the man chop our money, clean mouth ![]() I am more concerned about the lack of communication between MNJTF units, it's very sad. |
SamuelAnyawu:Yes. |
SamuelAnyawu:Na wa for MNJTF and DHQ sha. By now all these basic errors shouldn't be occurring, it doesn't speak well of the brass, it's as if we are just throwing our men against these threats without proper equipments, planning or framework. But you sef too like woman ![]() |
ugo4u:And yet they mysteriously disappeared from Baga when it mattered. ![]() |
SamuelAnyawu:Doesn't the MNJTF have channel of communication?, How come the Chadians were just driving around and our men didn't even know they were coming?. Anyway, more strength to all of you guys in the NE theatre. |
ugo4u:These things you predicted are bound to happen. I expect that by now, Pompeo will have presented before Trump, the option of moving one of the US destroyers to "patrol" the Strait of Hormuz and conduct a naval exercise in the Persian Gulf. Israel is bound to conduct strikes on Quds forces and Iranian-backed operations in southern Iraq, in the process, violating international laws and UN resolutions. I never thought the day would come that Saudi Arabia and Israel would become so cosy together but apparently, the crown prince has extraordinary ambitions. ![]() If they could just dash us $5 billion to equip our military, instead of wasting it on dumb lazy arab soldiers What is that OIC for sef? |
lebuhsi:It's too soon to say the plants will be "up and running in few days", they were hit severally by up to 10 drones acting as cruise missiles. Barring the US opening up it's Strategic Petroleum Reserves and Saudi also pumping out it's National Reserves within the next 24 hours, oil prices will flare up in the coming days, and the prices will stay up for a while until Saudi manages to begin full operations. We are seeing increasing Iranian activities in the Strait of Hormuz, and disruption of oil supply within the past weeks. All these factors will come to play. And as we continue to witness what a joke the Saudi's $80 billion military armament buying spree has become, who is to say we aren't going to see more of such attacks??. |
lionel4power:Speaking about Saudi Arabia, goodnews for Nigeria, opening oil prices tomorrow is bound to skyrocket. Recent Houthi drone attacks on two Aramco oil installations has halved production of Saudi Arabia oil to around 5 million b/d, as against the previous 11 million b/d. ![]() At least for the next few months, oil prices could get as high as $80/barrel, thanks to *coughs* Iran *coughs* Houthi rebels ![]() It appears that if BH/ISWAP were to invade Saudi, it would have taken over Riyadh by now. ![]() Please don't compare Nigerian SFs with Saudi counterparts, it's a grave insult to our men. ![]() |
bidex111:My Oga, the presence of pot bellies in those guys bears the hallmark of men addicted to beer and pepper soup. I will accept your argument if you can provide the picture of an American or even Pakistani SF operatives with pot belly. Naturally, rigorous training is supposed to eliminate such belly fat and tone the abdominal muscles, allowing for greater agility. I am not disputing the fact that there are SF or Intelligence Operatives allowed to carry heavy male pregnancies as long as they don't directly involve in combat duties. However,to be an SF/SOF combatant, agility and mobility is required, which having pot belly impedes. So really, there is nothing special about those guys, they are simply like every other regular soldier giving their best in the North East. |
bidex111:If that man actually went through rigorous SF training, he won't have pot belly. I am not disputing their patriotism or priceless service to the nation, but calling them "Special Forces" is a joke taken too far. Of the many qualities needed in a SF operative, agility is one very important attribute. Medically, someone who is chubby is at a disadvantage when it comes to combat setting, aside from shortness of breath, being prone to stroke or heart failure, difficulty in healing wounds, and slowness, the size of his belly indicates that something is wrong with his diet. If body structure or BMI is not important in selecting SF for combat roles in Nigeria, then something is seriously wrong somewhere. |
Sizzorkay:Special Forces in fellow "third world" countries such as Pakistan, undergo years of rigorous training in various simulated environments. I am not even going to talk about the US or UK where dedicated SFs are usually the best of the best, sometimes, they can be so good and specialized that they get called out of retirement, but let me not compare Nigeria with the US. Let's compare with Pakistan or even Egypt, where SFs are trained for years, and even the state secret service or presidential guard will only pick operatives from the best SFs and then retrain them for another number of years under highly simulated conditions. They are armed with specialized weapons and dedicated assets for operations. In Nigeria, we send a bunch of burly barrel-chested(some of them pot bellied) men to "almighty" Czech, Ukraine, Serbia (or if we are generous enough, Pakistan) to train for 6 months. They jog around and draw lines in the sand for the first three months, do target practice for the next three months, then pose and snap pictures in dark shades and black leather uniforms, and come back home to be christened "special forces". What will it take to budget proper funds for a dedicated and highly specialized infantry unit, train them for three years in different terrains under different conditions, and arm them with the best weapons and armour depending on their operations?. |
bidex111:All these Special Forces sef...all they do is carry big guns and wear dark shades. Look at that one with pot belly, what kind of SF is that?. Seems they just select tall muscular people, send them to an obscure country for a few months for training and then christen them "special forces". |
lebuhsi:Read the news too, though I wonder how the pledge will be funded. Which countries are funding it?, Through what framework will the funds be channeled in combating the rising spate of Islamic terrorism?, Is it by funding the MNJTF and G-5 Sahel Taskforce or will another military coalition be created?. The Presidents of Chad and Mauritania(both countries not part of ECOWAS) were present at the meeting Hopefully, this is not just mere talk. |
GeneralFarouq: You call what those women were doing push ups?...they were barely even moving, especially that fat one. I can do up to thirty in under one minute and don't even practice at all. Those women were wiggling around and pausing every three second like tilapia fishes. ![]() |
theenchanter:Well, those are the numbers usually bandied around by the media, so I assume they have researched the figures appropriately. |
nemesis8u:Of course no one is going to war. Merely an academic discussion. |
ugo4u:I agree with you that we can have quite an inflated ego most times, Nigerians are like Germans, we think we are God's gift to the black race, which isn't really a bad thing anyway. If only we had leaders who could leverage on that orientation, we'd be a world power by now. However, I do believe that the Nigerian military will crush Benin Republic in under a month, there is no rocket science about that. Even Chad cannot withstanding it, if we conduct a military onslaught against them. The major thing those countries have going for them is the support of France, which has become a sort of rivalry power in Africa. |
Mayor555:Okay. |

that was moving at a snail speed and had to spend 6hours for a 2hour journey.
