This is the most irresponsible government response ever. Reports say three people die but this irresponsible government only mentions the Igbo victim and not the others. In a fresh suit filed before an Ekiti State High Court, a pupil of Divine Academy in Ekiti State, Amidat Akingbolu, is seeking a determination of the Court on whether the Ekiti State government is under legal obligation to provide free, compulsory and universal basic education for every child of primary and junior secondary age under the unambiguous provisions of the Free Universal Basic Education and Child Rights Law of Ekiti State. The case has yet to be assigned by the Chief Judge.

The Ekiti State government had provided free primary school education since 1955 when the policy was introduced by the Obafemi Awolowo-led administration. But Governor Ayo Fayose has abolished free education in the State by imposing a fee of N1,000 and N500 for pupils of private schools and public schools, respectively. Ms. Akingbolu is challenging that decision of the government. According to the pupil and her counsel, Kabir Akingbolu, this policy contravenes section 2(1) of the Free Universal Basic Education Act of 2004, and Section 15 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State. The Catholic diocese of Ekiti State has also approached the court to cancel the policy.

Mr. Fayose is being accused of enforcing policies that run contrary to the provision of the law. The governor is accused of failing to pay counterpart funding, under the Compulsory Universal Basic Education Act of 2004, to access federal government support to free primary and junior secondary education in the State. He has also been accused of wasting hundreds of millions of naira in State funds on sponsoring political newspaper adverts, radio and television jingles, and renting private jets for political rallies.

The plaintiff, in her affidavit of support, further claims the inability of herself and her siblings, like any other indigent students of the State, to attend schools since the introduction of the obnoxious fee due to the financial burden it imposed on their parents.

Considering the ongoing sealing of private schools not in compliance with the policy, the plaintiff is demanding a perpetual injunction restraining the governor from locking or sealing off any private school for the purpose of collecting fees from students and from further collecting money under any guise from any child of primary and junior secondary school age in any of the schools in the State.

An acclaimed lawsuit filed by 10 constitutional lawyers about 10 days ago at the Federal High Court in Abuja to prosecute Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele has been sold and bought, according to sources involved in the case.

Ezenwa Ibegbunam, a lawyer who was initially hired by the group, confirmed to SaharaReporters today that he withdrew from the case after the media reported it.

One barrister Achilike Anderson and 9 others had filed the aggressive lawsuit to prosecute Mr. Emefiele for money laundering and other offenses.

The other defendants in the suit are President Muhammadu Buhari, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Nigeria Senate.

As was widely reported, the suit sought, among others, an order to compel the President to initiate the constitutional process of the removal of the Governor of the CBN for Abuse of Office, Money Laundering and Gross misconduct.

The group said it wanted to be nullified the sham CBN Employment exercise which was blown open by SaharaReporters, arguing that it was in violation of all recruitment laws and due process.

The hearing of the case was then scheduled for tomorrow, May 3.

SaharaReporters has however learnt that the case was originally filed with the sole intent of extorting money from the CBN governor, whose job remains shaky.

Our sources affirm that those involved have reportedly received an N350million settlement from Mr. Emefiele to withdraw the case.

Asked if he was threatened on bribed by anyone for that action, Mr. Ibegbunam replied that his withdrawal was necessitated by personal reasons as he had issues with his clients as well as his family members. He did not disclose what those issues are.

You are the only sensible and fair commentator here. Their reasoning is so be clouded by sentiment that they want to be the complainants, the prosecutors, the judges and the executioners in a matter that 99.9% of them only read from a biased media. if you remember that not more than a month before this attack more than 73 youths were arrested because they where discussing how to secure and tame the excess of those herdsmen. I am from that local government and the conflict did not start today but they had never attacked us with this magnitude. I think those herdsmen are backed by powerful persons from this government. if you follow the trend carefully, they firstly used the military to round up a lot of youth then on the day of the attack, the so called military personnel left for who knows where. then the said military surfaced when reprisal started.

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of alleged complicity in the fuel supply crisis in the state.

In a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party said it was in possession of “incontrovertible evidence” that the governor was allegedly contributing to the scarcity of fuel in the state to sabotage the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Accusing Fayose and his aides of mischievously disparaging the President for not doing enough to make fuel available to Nigerians while they were the actual culprits, Olatunbosun said available information confirmed that daily allocations of fuel to the state were allegedly being diverted to other states with the alleged connivance of some National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas officials.

But reacting, Fayose’s Special Assistant on New Media and Public Communication, Lere Olayinka, said the allegation was unfounded, telling the APC to be wise.

“Is it the governor that is also responsible for fuel scarcity in other states? They are only trying to seek relevance. They better face the task of bringing good governance to the people,” he added.

Olatunbosun said available records revealed that 10 trailers of fuel for Ekiti State on Fayose’s request were diverted mostly to stations outside the state.

“The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mrs Dupe Alade, had earlier written for same allocation but her letter to NNPC was stepped down when Fayose used his office to request for the allocation of fuel to 10 filling stations, many of which do not exist in Ekiti State.

“The governor’s letter was addressed to the Area Manager at Mosimi and minuted to Ore and was processed by the Ore office of NNPC.

“The trailers were loaded on Wednesday and Thursday the 20th and 21st of April but the real fuel companies and vendors were prevented from loading until the 10 trailers demanded by the governor left the depot but were diverted to other stations outside Ekiti State,” he stated.

Olatunbosun stated that the development reportedly elicited protests and complaints from the real fuel marketers in Ekiti State, adding that this had resulted in acute shortage of fuel in the state with few stations dispensing fuel selling at prohibitive costs to the masses that Fayose claimed to be their friends.

He listed the company names in the letter of the governor to include Amsek Filling Station opposite Omolayo along Ikere road, Ado-Ekiti, that is selling above official price.

“Other stations not in existence in Ekiti State but which appeared in the governor’s letter is Royal Oil, which the letter falsely claimed to exist in Omuo-Ekiti.

“Rova Oil, also on the governor’s letter, no longer exists in Ekiti because it has since been sold and its name changed and it is now operating under NNPC. It is located in Ajilosun area of the state capital and selling above NNPC official price.

“Other non-existent stations in Ekiti but which appeared in the governor’s letter and was allocated fuel is Bisi Jay located in Ile-Oluji in Ondo State.

“The other company that received Ekiti State’s allocation is Ademur located in Osun State. This company has no station in Ekiti and it has no lifting right or permit in Ore, while Eyeowa Fuel that got allocation does not exist in Ekiti,” he explained.

He alleged that Moson Global located in Ifon, Ondo State, also received Ekiti allocation at NNPC official price but selling above official price to the public.

He challenged the governor to deny ever writing to the NNPC for fuel allocation.

“There is need for the security agencies and the Minister for Petroleum to investigate the governor’s activities at the NNPC offices both in Ore and Mosimi and the roles of NUPENG officials in this wicked unleashing of pains on Ekiti people by unpatriotic act to sabotage the Federal Government" he added.

The Federal Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), is working on reducing the workload of primary and junior secondary pupils from 20 to a maximum of ten subjects under the nine-year basic educational curriculum in order to align with global best practices, taking in account local needs.

This followed a revision of the previous curriculum by NERDC with the aim of reducing the number of subjects offered.

Under this scheme, Christian and Islamic Religious Studies, which are separately taught, will now be merged under a compulsory subject known as Religion and National Values (RNV).

Other subjects brought under the RNV include Civic Education, Social Studies, and Security Education.

In order to ensure uniform implementation, the NERDC has developed a Teacher’s Guide for each subject listed.

Under this guide, Primary 1-3 pupils would offer a minimum of six and a maximum of seven subjects, JSS 1-3, a minimum of nine subjects and maximum of 10, while Primary 4-6 will offer a minimum of eight and a maximum of nine subjects.

A United States Academic report for The year 2015 has suggested that the Igbo people of South Eastern Nigeria are the most Brilliant black African Race.

This doesn’t come as much of a shocker taking into account the Two Igbo students who broke records by gaining admissions into 8 Ivy League Schools. The students, Harold Ekeh scored 2270 out of 2400 on his SATs while Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna scored a 101.6 GPA.

17-year-old Harold Ekeh is a senior student at the Elmont Memorial High School in Long Island while Augusta Uwamanzu- Nna is a high-school student from Long Island, New York.

The 8 schools offering the admissions include: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University.

The report reads: “A search through the promotional materials of school for a black student – all schools and colleges would always show some black faces in their promotional materials if they have any – reveals that they have had at least one black student, and it was, unsurprisingly, a Nigerian Igbo.”

According to two online news portal, NBC News and MSN, the two teenagers are faced with “a big decision to make soon.” as Harold Ekeh has 13 admission offer from universities, 8 of which are Ivy League schools which according to NBC makes the choice-making decision harder than usual.

Ekeh while Speaking with NBC News said: “It’s very, like, stunning. It’s like getting hit with a brick, honestly. When you see congratulations, you’re like, wow your hard work has paid off, definitely.”

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr Godwin Emefiele has barred staff of the apex bank from using chartered flights due to the economic situation in the country.
The information was contained in a statement issued yesterday and signed by the acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okorafor. He noted that since last year the CBN governor and his deputies have been travelling via commercial flights.
The statement also denied rumours that the governor and his immediate family travelled via chartered flights to attend his mother’s burial which took place last week.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the past used private and official chartered flights in making urgent travels to remote, not-easily- accessible locations or in cases where timing was critical. That practice was in place long before the assumption of office of the current governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele. In fact it is on record that the past two CBN governors actively used chartered private jet services to meet urgent national assignments. However, in 2015, in response to the economic downturn and the cost-cutting stance of government, Mr. Emefiele ordered the stoppage of the use of chartered flights by the bank. Since then, neither Mr. Emefiele nor any of the deputy governors has used the services of private chartered flights, “ it added.

It’s no longer news that Nigeria will not be among contenders for next year’s African Cup of Nations in Gabon. It’s the second time consecutively that Eagles have missed the continental showpiece. Here are some lessons from the latest disappointment.
Sunday Oliseh was a mistake- after Stephen Keshi was sacked as super Eagles manager, most Nigerians were clamouring for an experienced gaffer that would right the wrongs of the Keshi era. Unfortunately what Nigerians got was a rookie whose only experience of managing a team took place in the Belgian third tier division. Like the recently sacked Valencia manager Gary Neville, Oliseh had all his UEFA coaching badges and was a good pundit for Television but as they both later learned, it’s a lot different when you’re on the hot seat.
If the Nigeria football federation really wanted Oliseh to succeed, they should’ve brought in an amazing manager then put the former Juventus midfielder under his tutelage for him to garner the needed experience with a view to giving him the top job in a near future, just as is being done with Ryan Giggs and Manchester United at the moment where he served under former manager David Moyes and now serving with Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal.
NFF remains biggest obstacle- ask most Nigerians and they’ll tell you that the biggest problem with the country’s football lies at the doorsteps of the Glass House.
In the last couple of years, we are yet to see a crisis free, vision driven and focused NFF and the issues got worse under President Amaju Pinnick who has now failed to steer Nigeria to two African Cup of Nations since he took over.
In house fighting, corruption allegations, lack of organization and legitimacy issues are some of the problems associated with the NFF.

Kaduna best for Eagles- The Super Eagles have never lost a game in Kaduna as far as history is concerned and part of the reason they are yet to taste defeat at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium is due to the massive support enjoyed by the three time AFCON winners whenever they play there.The crowd on parade in last week’s tie against Egypt proved Kaduna which has a long history with the beautiful game and has produced stars for the senior team over the years is Eagles first love because nowhere in Nigeria would’ve came out like the way they did.
Siasia impressed- considering time constraints and other challenges, interim manager Samson Siasia can be said to have really impressed with his handling of the two games against Egypt.
He not only added cohesion (which was lacking under Oliseh) but also structured the team in a beautiful way which was entertaining to watch. The only thing lacking from Eagles performance against Egypt was ‘goals’
