I work in the traffic control unit in a multi national company in Rivers State. Among other things the unit is responsible for keeping a database and issuing vehicle stickers and driving permits for all vehicles and drivers, respectively, that fly our company facilities/premises.
It was in the course of our job that we stumbled upon two vehicles with same registration/plate number. The matter became an issue as the two owners involved are big shots that are beyond suspicion of faking.
We consulted FRSC and they provided an instant solution by providing us with a check link(www.nvisng.org/numberplateverification.aspx) where a run of the plate number in dispute revealed the actual vehicle that the number was officially allocated to. The other party had to re-register his vehicle and obtained another plate number.
Further checks on random vehicle plate numbers shockingly revealed many fake plate numbers.

Some people nail it every time when it comes to photographs and you probably just wonder why you can’t. You get dressed and look in the mirror, you look amazing but you try to take a selfie and well… you don’t look as good. You must have probably wondered why this is so. – Mirrors reverse sides. This is know as the mere-exposure effect, which is a psychological phenomenon by which people tend to develop a preference for things merely because they are familiar with them. Basically we are so familiar with ourselves looking like the way we look in mirrors, we seem to look different in photographs.

– Social psychologist Robert Zajonc — rhymes with “science” — is widely credited with “discovering” the mere exposure effect in the 1960s. We spend considerably more time looking in the mirror and we have become used to seeing our face that way round, so we prefer the way our features look in the mirrored configuration. So when we reverse that image, it doesn’t look right.

– No one has a perfectly symmetrical face. For instance most people part their hair on one side rather than the other or smile slightly more out of one side of their mouth than the other. So if your nose goes 2mm to the left, then when your image is the other way round it appears to be 4mm to the right of where you’re expecting it to be.

– Camera captures our image at a particular object distance and at from different angle view always. While when we look at our image in the mirror, we are looking at it from the perspective of a 5’5 or 5″8 tall person at a desired angle, and also with a larger field of vision such that our whole body is in our sight.

– You must also know that a camera captures our image from the photographers point of view which might distort our image and present us in a way we might not like.

– Photographs are more of an interpretation of an image than a rigorously accurate reproduction of the image. When an image is captured in a photograph many small changes necessarily take place. The simple answer for why this happens is to say that cameras are not perfect and neither are photographic systems such as film or electrophotographic sensors. So in many ways the mirror image is a lot more “Real” than any photograph.

– Also looking at yourself in the mirror provides you with visual feedback, whereas someone taking a photo of you does not. This allows you to make subtle corrections (stand up straight, fix your hair, try different facial expressions, shift your weight, move your face into the light, and a million other things) that all result in a perfect pose. When someone takes your photo, you have no opportunity to react to your own image and pose yourself, and so you end up with however you happened to be positioned.

I read the communiqué of the APC National caucus in laughter where they declared there support for a second term in office for President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. In the said communiqué, the APC declared the non-vacancy of Aso Rock, the seat of power in 2019, insinuating that President Buhari's mandate would be renewed for another four years.
Sometimes I wonder whether the men in power and their associates are living in a different world from the rest of the country. I wonder whether the APC is yet to get the message of Nigerians that they are tired of the pains that the ruling party has been making them go through since assuming power in May 29, 2015. In fact, I will be very direct in this subject.

Where does the APC think they can win in any part of Nigeria? Is it the North Central that the government watch while their people are being killed and made to bury communities due to the menace of marauding terrorists masquerading as Fulani herdsmen that the APC expected to get votes from? Is the President and APC expecting to get votes from the talakawas and the majority people of North West after dashing their hopes of getting unemployment benefit? Do they expect to get votes from the people of Kaduna state and Zaria after the massacre of their shittes brothers by the army?

Do they expect to get the votes of the South West after doing nothing while some herdsmen terrorists kill them in their own ancestral land? Are they expecting the votes of the people of Lagos after the Mile 12 incident or those of the people of Ondo state after the kidnap of Falae? Are they expecting the votes of the good people of Osun state after disgracing them through the governor? Is the APC expecting the votes of the South East after openly marginalising them with the infamous 5% or the South South?

Is the APC expecting the votes of the poor masses despite punishing them with fuel scarcity and high cost of commodities? Are they expecting the votes of the poor middle class that have their wards schooling abroad but unable to pay their fees due to non availability of the dollar? Will they ever forgive the president mocking them that they should withdraw their wards if they can cope?

Will men of patriotic zeal vote the same government that not only justified the nepotistic employment exercise by the CBN but are unwilling to reverse it? Are they expecting the votes of the intellectuals after openly disregarding court verdicts? Who will return Mr President to office in 2019 even from among his family members?

By 2019 the government will understand the verdict of the masses when they send them to permanent retirement and bring them to face justice for their crimes while in power.

Though 2019 is a whole three years away, it is instructive to inform the President and his party that they should not bother campaigning when the time comes because it will amount to waste of time, energy and resources.

Finally, there is vacancy in Aso Rock, her new tenant shall move in on May 29, 2019 along with the Umbrella.

By law, the mandate of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited, PPMC, a subsidiary and strategic business unit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), is to ensure flawless supply of petroleum products to Nigerians.

To be sure, PPMC’S mission, in its own words, is “To ensure security of supply of petroleum products to the domestic market at low operating costs, market special products competitively in the domestic and international markets, provide excellent customer service by effectively and efficiently transporting crude oil to the refineries and moving petroleum products to the market.”

Well, we can authoritatively inform you that the PPMC has been extremely diligent, not at delivering petroleum products to Nigerians at minimal costs, but at adding to the sorrow of the consumers, most waste valuable man-hours looking for fuel. Indeed, in Nigeria, the largest oil producing country in Africa and one of the top five in the world, people still keep night vigils at filling stations to buy fuel.

The PPMC, our checks have revealed, compounds the problems of Nigerians by creating unnecessary bottlenecks to frustrate marketers, giving preferential treatment to major marketers to the detriment of the so-called independent marketers, and sundry fraudulent practices that stand President Muhammadu Buhari’s CHANGE mantra on its head.

Our investigation at the Ejigbo, Lagos Depot, as well as the PPMC office in Apapa, shows that for over a month now, only major marketers are loaded with products because they are licenced to import, and they bribe big when push comes to shove.

An independent marketer who spoke to SaharaReporters at the Ejigbo depot, on Monday, said his company had not done any business in the last 12 months.

“Not for a single day,” he said, close to tears. “My staff shuttle between our office and Apapa (PPMC Office) every day, yet we have not got one litre of product for a single day.”

Although the NNPC has been in the eyes of the storm over billions of unremitted funds, and brazen looting, the corruption at the PPMC and the depots are mindboggling. No thanks to civil servants who suck the life blood of the system through diverse unwholesome practices.

“There is hardly any table or office you get to at Apapa that you are not made to pay one bribe or another. First, you obtain your ticket which is the passport to load products. But the programme people will not process your ticket unless you pay a bribe of N1.50 on every litre of product allocated to you.

“After that, they will ask you to pay another N5 per litre of petrol and N8 per litre of kerosene allocated to you. While the N1.50 is for PPMC officials in Lagos, they say the N8 (for kerosene) and N5 (for petrol) are for the ogas at PPMC Headquarters in Abuja. And the evil cycle goes on like that. You can calculate the amount of bribe you would pay if you are allocated say 10 or 15 million litres of products.”

Now, the big question is: how do all these affect the consumer? Simple. The bribes are passed on to them through illegal adjustments of metres at the pumps, and/or through outright hoarding. All these lead to the paralytic effects on the system that are now so apparent.

To solve the problem once and for all, most marketers spoken to unanimously advocated the total deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry. “Once there is complete deregulation, the system would open up,” one told our reporter, “and you can bring in products according to you financial capabilities not according to the volume of bribe you are able to pay.

“For now, everything is upside down. There is no petrol. Kerosene and diesel are scarce. Civil servants and major marketers are making a hell of harvest to the detriment of the country. But if we have total deregulation, sanity would return.”

These people are hypocrites and raw haters. They now have mouths to condemn the entire north for the wrongs of few persons. We could have accused all of them of killing and using northern youths as spiritual foundations for their churches. Afterall none of them condemned such actions. But the Northerners proved more civilized for not generalizing the crime with wild allegations.
Had it been that these corpses were Igbo youths murdered in the north and used as spiritual foundation for a mosque the reaction from the haters is better imagined than experienced. Islam and Muslims worldwide would have been bashed beyond recognition.

An anti-corruption coalition, Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately invite and investigate the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, over what it termed excessively flamboyant and opulent lifestyle of the lawmaker.

According to the petition sent to the anti-graft commission and signed by CSNAC's chairman, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, the group said the EFCC should invoke its powers under Section 6(h) of the Act that sets it up and probe the embarrassing display of opulence by Melaye.

The petition reads: "In its report of July 31st, 2015, Saharareporters, an online newspaper, said that Senator Dino Melaye purchased a home in Abuja estimated at a whopping 1.3 billion Naira (6.5 million US dollars). The said property which is located at 11 Sangha Street, off Mississippi Street, in the Maitama upscale neighborhood of the city, boasts leafy trees, ornate Roman-style columns, and decadent chandeliers hanging from its high ceilings. According to the report, the property is currently undergoing some renovations with an indoor swimming pool."

CSNAC said the report further reiterated its earlier report of Senator Melaye's gloating on social media about his wealth and luxury toys, which included imported sports cars, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and even novelty champagne branded with his face on the bottle. He had also previously told SaharaTV that he made N1.4m from his first month of holding public office.

"When asked by a SaharaReporters correspondent about his source of money for the payment of his luxurious house, the only response offered was, “I am a distinguished member of the Federal government.” When further prodded by the correspondent that his assets were a matter of public interest, the question was ignored.

"This is also coupled with the fact that Senator Melaye’s consistent presence in the entourage of Toyin Saraki (wife of Senate President Bukola Saraki) as she faced corruption investigations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has continued to arouse the curiosity of right thinking Nigerians.

"It is trite that the Commission is empowered by the provision of Section 7(1) (b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004 which states as follows:
The Commission has power to-

"Cause investigations to be conducted into the properties of any person if it appears to the Commission that the person's lifestyle and extent of the properties are not justified by his source of income."

The group said that the excessively flamboyant and opulent lifestyle of Senator Dino Melaye, who is a public officer, calls for serious questioning and investigation. "As a public officer, his assets are a matter of public interest. His obscene public display of wealth not supported by any other known means of livelihood is not justified by the allowances of a public officer.

"Therefore, he should be made to justify these rapacious and brazen accumulation to the EFCC. With the prevailing rate of crimes and criminality, involving highly placed personalities and political office holders, no person or individual should be considered sacred.

"CSNAC is therefore by this petition requesting the Commission to invoke its powers under Section 6(h) of the aforementioned Act:
The Commission shall be responsible for -

"The examination and investigation of all reported cases of Economic and Financial Crimes with a view to identifying individuals, corporate bodies or groups involved."

"And launch an investigation into this matter by inviting Senator Dino Melaye to give a detailed explanation of the source(s) of income utilized in the finance and acquisition of his various expensive assets. More importantly, to clear any form of speculation that his assets might have been acquired through activities in contravention of any financial law(s) in Nigeria," the petition reads.

A Bayelsa based pressure group has called on the federal government to investigate some influential Nigerians who used their relationship with former President Goodluck Jonathan to embezzle public funds.
The group gave the charge in Yonegoa, the Bayelsa state capital, on Friday, March 18.
The BFL which expressed readiness to stage a peaceful protest in Abuja, next week to demand for the immediate arrest of a close associate of the former president and traditional ruler of Opume in Bayelsa state, King Amaalate Turner, by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC).
It stated that it has prepared its petition to be submitted during the protest, detailing how King Amalate Turner abused his relationship as a close friend of former President Jonathan for personal and family enrichment, many of which were through several contracts awarded to his company both in Bayelsa and other parts of the country at scandalously, outrageous amount, ,any of whom were never implemented or abandoned by companies belonging to Turner and his children.

Our news media is one of our greatest problems. Most Nigerian users of these media are also gullible.

In 2011, my car was snatched from me by robbers at gunpoint. That scary experience brought me face to face with and later close to one of Nigeria’s smartest serving police men alive. His soft voice, boyish look, gentle mien and calm disposition belie the lion heart, sharp instincts and intellect and ruthless efficiency of a master crime-buster. Call him Nigeria’s Jack Bauer (of the series 24 fame) and you will not be wrong.

Last weekend, not a few Nigerians were excited by the news of the rescue of the three kidnapped female students from Babington Seminary, Ikorodu, Lagos, and the arrest of the culprits. The man who cracked the horrible crime was none other than CSP Abba Kyari, OC IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a position he was fittingly and deservedly given by the current IGP, Solomon Arase. Being a “Lagos Boy”, it was only natural that he was brought in to crack the case, and crack the case he did! Just like he found my stolen car back in 2011!

A 1997 Geography graduate of the University of Maiduguri, Abba grew up in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he attended Government Primary and Secondary Schools in Maiduguri. He did his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State in 1998 and joined the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2000. 16 years after, he has earned for himself the reputation of a diligent, no-nonsense and intelligence officer, such that the police authorities and politicians are proud to have and work with. And from get go, he demonstrated to his bosses that he knew why he joined the force, and has kept at it.

After completing his training in the Police Academy WudilKano, Kyari was posted to Adamawa State where he served in Song, Girei and Numan Local Government Area with remarkable successes in crime bursting. He stood out when he led the arrest of a notorious armed robber called, ‘Ndagi’ a.k.a Spirit. Spirit held Numan, the third biggest town in Adamawa State hostage for several years before his eventual arrest. From then, there was no looking back for this intelligent officer with a sharp investigative mind and sometimes deadly courage.

Kyari joined the Police Mobile Force, popularly known as Mopol in 2005 and was there for about five years until his posting to Lagos Command October in 2010. He was deployed as the second in command (2/IC) to SARS and later became the OC SARS on January 15, 2011. It was said that the then Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, who decorated him with several awards, resisted ceaseless attempts by the Police high Command to have Kyari redeployed out of Lagos. This was on account of his amazing achievements in combating the menace of armed robbery and kidnapping in Lagos.

Kyari has a long litany of exploits under his belt. He was instrumental in the arrest of the most notorious armed robber in the South West, Mr. Abiodun Egunjobi, otherwise known as Godogodo. Godogodo was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, with some of his gang members. SARS recovered 42 AK47 rifles from the gang. Godogodo confessed to have killed over 150 Nigerians, including over 50 policemen during his 10 years reign as the kingpin of South West armed robbers.

There was also the arrest of Benjamin Osinachi a.k.a China and his entire gang of kidnappers based in Ghana, but operated in Nigeria. Their victims included a sitting High Court Judge, a sitting local government chairman, many expatriates, amongst others. China and his gang members held South West residents by the jugulars for long. But Kyari with his men, were said to have deployed, “Advanced Technology and brought the kidnappers down.” Several AK47 rifles and thousands of ammunitions were recovered from the gang.

The defeat of Mr. Andrew and his gang of deadly kidnappers in Igando area of Lagos metropolis was spearheaded by Kyari and his men. SARS recovered 12 AK47 rifles, GPMGs and rocket launchers from the gang. Also during his tenure in Lagos, SARS arrested Chinansa and gang in the Ajangbadi area of Lagos. The SARS men recovered 11 AK47 rifles, rocket launchers and GPMGs from them.

There was also the shocking arrest of the General Overseer of a church located at Ejigbo. The General Overseer was part of the gang of robbers that attacked the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The gang was later discovered to have operated at Ogun, Kwara and Rivers States. When they were eventually arrested, police recovered five AK47 rifles and GPMGs.


Kyari was also instrumental in the arrest of the kidnappers of former Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala’s mother. The kidnappers used to operate in Delta, Edo and Port Harcourt. This gang killed the former deputy Governor of Anambra State and kidnapped the wife of a sitting Supreme Court Judge.

Kyari and his men also arrested the kidnappers that abducted Dangote’s cousin. Another gang that kidnapped a British citizen, Mr. Dickson Lee, along the International Airport Road, was also defeated. The Briton was kidnapped moments after landing in Nigeria. There was the arrest of Obinna in Onitsha. Obinna was the most notorious sponsor and kingpin of robbers who specialized in hijacking trailers carrying containers. SARS has also in its feather, the arrest of Emmanuel aka Arab. Arab and his gang members were described as deadly. 12 AK 47 rifles, including four AK47 rifles belonging to Policemen they killed during bank robbery in Kwara State were recovered from them. Kyari and his men led the rescue of a young Kwara female model in Delta State. The policeman and his men also led in the rescue operation of Alhaji Fashola, owner of Kings Petroleum in Isheri Oshun, Lagos.

Lagos residents cannot forget the arrest of the nanny who kidnapped three boys belonging to same parents. The kids were called ‘the Orekoyas kids’. The nanny was arrested within three days that the case was transferred to Kyari and his men. Few days before Kyari got his posting letter to Abuja, he led the arrest of Lekki armed robbers who attacked the First City Monument Bank (FCMB). They killed three policemen and a girl who was hawking fish, carted away money and escaped through the waterways.

Splintered members from the Lekki bank robbery gang recently attacked banks at Ijede and Ogolonto areas of Ikorodu, Lagos. They escaped, as usual, through the waterways and Kyarideployed his Technology and arrested four of the Ikorodu bank robbers.

Kyari has received a lot of awards to mark his achievements. But to mention a few; there’s the IGP Commendation Award for Courage 2012, 2013, 2014. Governors Award for Gallantry, Leadership and Service excellence 2011, 2012, 2013. There’s Commissioner of Police Commendation Award for Courage 2011. Best Anti- Crime Police Officer in West Africa from Security Watch Africa, Star Award from CRAN 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

A very shy guy, Abba wouldn’t talk about his work and how he does it, but his men and people who have come across him would attest to the fact that his best attribute is that he sees himself as a Team Leader and not a boss in the discharge of his duties and co-ordination of men and resources to fight crime and criminals. One of his boys told me that” “OC is a whiz kid. He is too much. He understands technology and uses it to track down criminals. Also, he is a leader. He motivates us his men. We eat and drink with him. He attends our weddings, birthdays and naming ceremonies of our children and funeral of our relatives. In short, he is like a brother to us and leads from the front. He is always there for us and even teaches us how to key into technology while doing our work. In short, the OC is wonderful.”

So, here’s a brilliant officer who is also a great leader, who is ever ready to learn and teach others so the war against crime and criminals may succeed. No wonder the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, like his predecessor, was full of praises for Abba Kyari as he broke the news to Lagosians of the rescue of the three female students and the arrest of their kidnappers. He couldn’t be headed anywhere else but the top having stayed on top of his game from the moment he joined the Police.

The suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings, Charles Okah, has sued the Federal Government of Nigeria for allegedly violating the rights of inmates in Kuje Maximum Security Prison.
Mr. Okah also asked the court to compel the government to pay him N350 million damages for alleged violation of his fundamental rights.
His counsel, Timipa Okponipere, filed the case on February 15, barely a week before Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Abuja High Court halted his trial on health grounds.
Joined in the suit with number FHC/ABJ/CS/118/2016, are the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Nigerian Prisons Service as first and second respondents, respectively.
Among the reliefs sought by the applicant is the declaration that the failure of the respondents to respond to the letter of a prison inmate is a breach of fundamental right.
He also sought a declaration that his detention in solitary confinement without a charge and a valid court order breached his fundamental right.
Again, Mr. Okah sought a declaration that the refusal of the respondents to return the intellectual property seized from him without compensation is a breach of his fundamental right.
The applicant also sought a declaration that the refusal of the respondents to allow for conjugal visits to the prison breached the fundamental right of both convicted and awaiting trial inmates.
He also sought a declaration that the failure of the prison authorities to allow him access the welfare office at the prison to make calls to his family abroad violates his fundamental right.
The applicant challenged the failure of the respondents to stop illicit sex trade and drug trafficking by prison warders at Kuje Prison and sought a declaration that the acts violated the rights of awaiting trial and convicted inmates at the prison.
He also challenged the selective handcuff of prison inmates based on their status, saying the act is discriminatory and a breach of the fundamental rights of inmates.
Mr. Okah, therefore, sought an order of the court to among other things:
Compel the respondents to recognise the fundamental right of awaiting trial and convicted inmates in the prison;
Compel the respondents to forthwith introduce conjugal visits in Kuje Prison as applicable in other parts of the world;
Compel the respondents to release his intellectual property which were seized by the prison authority since January 6;
Compel the respondents to ban illicit sex trade and drug trafficking by prison warders as well as stop all discriminatory practices in the prison.
The suit was supported by a 58-point affidavit deposed by counsel to the applicant, Mr. Okponipere.
Justice Kolawole had during the resumed hearing of the bombing case on February 22, announced that Mr. Okah could not attend the session because he was undergoing surgery at the National Hospital, Abuja.
The judge, however, adjourned the case till March 10, and ordered that the suspect be brought to court on the new date.
