Thank you once again. I just want to know if you added any information from your passport page.
No I didn't. Just my full names. That is sufficient combined with my email address which is already on record (in my application).

Good day everyone, hope you had a great weekend? I will like to notify the embassy of change in my travel plans. How do I go about it. Is there a link or an email add that I can you. Thank you.
I sent the notification to the Abuja embassy. Don't have the address for Lagos but it's on the thread somewhere.

consularabuja@state.gov

Dear Sir/Madam,

NOTIFICATION OF CHANGE IN TRAVEL PLAN

I am writing to notify the embassy of a change in my travel plans. I have a B1/B2 visa which was obtained for a family vacation. I am now pregnant and we have decided to have our baby in the USA.

I have made proper arrangements by contacting a hospital and a doctor in the USA for this purpose and we have adequate finances to cover all expenses.

I understand that my Visa covers for the purpose but would like to request that you kindly update my records to reflect this change in travel plans.

Kindly advise if there is any other thing I would need to know before embarking on my trip.

Thank you.

@ekweresplace, during my interview I was to go to Orlando Florida but I ended up going to New York. All I did was to get an hospital in New York and I had their bills with me plus I notified the embassy of change in my travel plans cos my visa was for vacation and I now intend to use it for childbirth ...I dint mention if I was changing states or anything.

So just arm yourself with hospital correspondence in the state she intends to go. Shikena.

ekweresplace:
Thanks for your response. But I still need some clarifications... How did you changed it? Did you book your flight directly to Maryland from Naija connecting from Atlanta? If yes, didn't they suspect or ask any question? Hope to hear from you soon...

It doesn't matter if you declared or not during application, you can do a letter of change of intent or notification of your intention to also use your visa for childbirth.

All the best.

Tiababy:
Thanks Darius 84
But did u declare during application u were going for child birth? I am getting excited. Lol

Don't know about close to New York but in New York, I checked the following out "Kings County, Brooklyn, Queens Medical Center in Queens, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, New York Hospital in Queens, I even went to wyckoff heights in Brooklyn and then finally settled for Mercy Medical Center in Long Island as their pricing was direct and straight forward (not so cheap but well, I have family less than 20mins to the hospital, so it was my best bet)

For c-section,just have well above 10k -12k dollars...

Most of the hospitals give discount for self paying patients...

Feel free to research on them.

All the best.

@TMJDiva Congratulations on your successful visa interview story... This thread has really been helpful to alot of us. Gone are the days of lying that you are pregnant or concealing your pregnancy to enter the US... Knowledge is indeed power .

TMJDiva:
Hello all, been a silent follower (mainly because no one ever replies my messages. ..lol) anyway, thanks to advice from this forum I was granted a visa today along with my 3year old.

I was initially scared because I have been refused UK visa 4 times, the last being 2months ago and I have been refused a US visa in 2013 when I applied with my husband, im guessing cos his sister alredy filed for him.

I arrived with a bulging 7mnths pregnancy and a very very very active toddler with no one to assist. After chasing her about the embassy it was finally my turn. The type of favour i met with the VO was only from God.

the interview went like dis;

VO: why are you travelling to US
me: for childbirth and vacation
VO: can I see your doctors correspondence
I gave her and she read carefully
VO; can I see your bank statement
I passed it with my budget sheet and hubbys payslips (cos im not employed myself).she took her time to go thru (2.5m in acct with 2.2m on budget sheet)
V.O: have u travelled out before and purpose?
me; yes....twice to UAE
V.O: where will u be staying
me:with my sis in law
V.O: your visa has been approved. ......

thanks all on dis forum

modath,

Send me a PM n I would give u the details of the notary I used. Don't want to put it out here before I would get tongue lashed for advertising...lol

modath:
Overcorrect dey worry you!!
Its posts like this that drives home the point that this thread is home to almost 75% of "GUESTS" on this forum & why bandwagon sets in as soon as ANYTHING is mentioned.
Little wonder MHIS is overwhelmed & even turning back "customers"...
@EVERYONE,
& I mean everyone, its days to porting & I've dotted my Is & crossed my Ts save for baby's PP consent form for unavailable parents.
I've gotten useful info from helpful members of this wonderful thread but unlike Lagos the high court (back of fed secretariat) I know in Abuja does not encourage charge & bail loiterers & the lawyers I know with chambers I don't want to approach...
@Abuja folks,
How did you navigate this slippery slope? cos I'm one step from going to UTC Area 10 to get myself a seal & manufacture a stamp.. grin

Good morning house...

Thank you all for the advise and all especially when I was curious as to the letter of change of intent.

I am now in the US and below is my story:

Firstly, I sent in the letter "change of travel plans" since my visa was granted for vacation in February... So I informed the embassy that I was now preggies and would be embarking on the vacation with my Hubby but would stay back to have my baby.

I got the generic reply that my visa allows for medicals but was advised to get a doctor, pay all my bills and get evidence of payments. This reply came in the morning of my trip.

Point of Entry was JFK, the queue was long but I was taken forward cos I'm quite heavy. I came in with Hubby so he answered all 4 questions we were asked :

Where are u coming from? Nigeria.
Have you been to Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc in the last one month? No.
Purpose of trip? Vacation and my wife would stay back to have our baby.
How are you paying for that? Cash.
He looks at the custom form and noticed we declared over $10000 and he stamps us in for 6 months.

No secondary inspection. No Agriculture. And yes when we dropped the custom form, they only asked what we intended to use the over 10k dollars for, and hubby replied to pay for medical bills. Shikena. They dint count to confirm the amount at all.

That's how we entered o. No document was checked even though I had my hospital correspondence, appointment confirmation, change of travel plans, accommodation documents, etc etc.

I believe strongly that it was God all the way.

Advice to all, put all ur paper works together and ultimately just Trust God.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014:
Thank you so much @newmum15, @phema, @modath and @MadameU.

Now I am very confused at to whether or not to send the letter. Going with my husband for the trip, maybe I should just risk it although I am already showing.

When I got the visa it was for holiday honestly but along the line plans have now changed especially since the visa allows for both purpose.

So now we are going for vacation but I want to stay back and have the baby...

What do you guys think. Should I just risk it and go in through New York since its a friendlier POE.

Phema:
That's fine. As long as you got your visa before you became preggers.
Phema,
I was in my first trimester but I was not asked and so I dint mention. R u saying I shouldn't send the mail cos of that. Pls kindly advice cos I don't want to do something that would cause me even more wahala.

Tried to PM you but I don't seem to know how it works. Pls can I have ur email address.

Thanks

Dear all, I have followed this thread from part 1 and must commend all those that have contributed to the wealth of knowledge available here.

Please I am a July mum, initially interested in ATL (northside) but with new interest in MIHS due to the all encompassing maternity payment. Superior advice in this regards would be appreciated especially looking at the difference in flight fares and cost of accommodation.

My visa was obtained early this year, I wasn't asked if pregnant and so I dint disclose either. I have not used the visa but plan to travel in June for birthing purpose (contrary to vacation). Should I still notify the embassy? Cos I noticed most of those who sent the letter had first used the visa for the purpose it was issued before deciding to use it for birthing.

As for POE, should I entertain any fear or not, cos unlike most mamas here, I would be going with hubby, so I'm guessing we shouldn't have much issues.

Finally, destination stated during interview is different from ATL and Phoenix. Do I need to also notify the embassy of this.

Thank you all for your kind responses.
