Update or notification sounds good but I would opt for notification though... its more apt

What will d title of d letter to the embassy be? Cos it's not a change of intent..

I'm a New York mama... But yeah I have some info on Northside and Emory Hospitals in ATL...

FinanceFitness:
Sorry, i didn't deliver in Atlanta- try shawbabe, mrsdan and ewa.

Popular hospitals - Northside, Emory.

You can also try Piedmont - they are reasonably priced for normal delivery.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 1:23am On Aug 29, 2015
Thought to update the house on my documentation experience. What I learnt however is do NOT just accept whatever u r told and go to sleep while trying to get your baby's documents, almost everything can be expedited.

After I gave birth, I filled the BC form and Was under the impression that I would get it in a few days... Only to be told it would take btw a month to 6 weeks... I told them it's impossible that I needed it asap cos I have to process documents and go back to my country... I called the hospital everyday and they referred me to the county and I called them severally too, to cut the long story short, I got my BC in less than a week.

Next was Naija passport, filled d form n bought the money order, once I linked the money order to my application, I din't wait for innovates confirmation(which came 2 days later BTW), I called Naija embassy and was told to come with what I had, got there at 12noon and got the passport at 3pm. I dint tip anyone or pay expedited.

Called US passport Agency, got an appointment which was about 2weeks away, I dint have the patience plus DH was going back and he wanted all paper work completely done, so we went to the post office and submitted WITHOUT SSN cos it wasn't out yet. (in this case just enter zeros). Once it came in the mail, I called the NY passport Agency and they inputted the SSN, then I told the lady I was traveling soon and all that I din't get an early appointment that's y I opted for the post office blah blah...long story short.... Passport came in after 10days.

After I got it, called them for the BC, was told i would get it within 2 weeks, again I told them I'm leaving soon blah blah, I got it in less than a week.(4days after).

Hospital Zero balance also obtained. Everything gotten within about 3weeks altogether.

Baby's ticket was bought in Naija by DH for about 150$ against the almost 400$ I was charged when I wanted to buy at the airport...

Ready to go home but I hv postpartum appointment which is included in my package so I'll stay and get checked before I port back home.

It's just better to have all documents sorted out while waiting than last minute rush.

Try Emory... It's not so expensive

Hi @firsttymum

Pls do you know any other affordable Hospital for delivery in Atlanta aside Grady and Northside?

Hello Shelly23, what do u mean by Not true... I'm telling u the quote they gave me at the airport just last weekend. Where u there with mehuh... Abeg people should know how to comment appropriately. Plus if you read through the thread you will see where others got charged ridiculously when they bought from the US. Biko don't call anyone a liar for putting up their experiences so others can learn...

shelly23:
Not true, I got a quote from Delta in May for $85 for my daughter which I was to pay at the airport.

I had to change my travel date and ended up paying $191 about a month later. I found out the $85 initially quoted was for one way because the person I spoke to assumed my daughter had a naija passport. I eventually bought the return ticket because I found out they won't sell one way to naija with a naija visa in a US passport (same way you can't buy one way to the US with your B1/B2 visa). When I got home, I applied for a refund for the unused leg of the trip and I got $85 almost 2 months later.

Is it 600$ weekly or monthly... huh

dtush:
My sister, mesef dey find accommodation oo. I have 2 doctors lined up and rhe birth center. I want to check them out before i make up my mind. The accommodation a family frd got me is too expensive. She is subletting a room for me in a two bedroom flat owned by her for 600 dollars. My uncle in Dallas said its too expensive so now am back to the drawing board. TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 2:42pm On Aug 21, 2015
Dear house, lemme reiterate what some other mamas already adviced as I almost fell victim...

Do NOT purchase ur infant ticket from the US. It is expensive. Delta/Air France almost sold me my infants ticket for about $400 when I accompanied DH to the airport earlier this week.

DH has gone to their Nigerian office and bought the same ticket for about $150 ([s]cos it's premium according to them, else it wld be cheaper I guess).[/s]

Getting baby's documents in 2 weeks is Very possible. I got naija passport same day in NY without paying expedited... Got there at 12noon and got the passport by 3pm... And if you use the US passport agency for the US passport you can get your passport same day or within a week. I however opted for the post office expedited and wld get mine in 2 weeks as I'm in no rush.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 3:44am On Aug 14, 2015
Hello algfred, yes I'm still in NY... And Nope, there are no hidden charges, got all myreceipts before I left the hospital and I'm good to go... Zero balance Shud be here by tomorrow as they have to send it from Revenue which is someplace else...

She wld have to pay the 1100 on the day of her first appointment and the 6k can be paid even after delivery but definitely before u leave the hospital...

algfred:
Hi ewa2014. Please if you are still in NY or the states i will like madam to call you for small guidians on MMC.she canceled her appointment with them for today 14th. August hoping she can still find something less........ Any way she like to hear from the horses mouth if there were any hidden charges man no know for now with MMC. She is in bronx so guess its like 1hr or less to her location. (STAYING WITH FAM). I HAVE SENT YOU AN EMAIL REQUEst so you can help with a phone or personal chart with her, eseeeeeeeeeepu pooooo!
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 2:30pm On Aug 09, 2015
MMC - Mercy Medical Center, it's in Rockville center (Long Island axis of New York).

Send me PM so wld give u details.

duchessgoddess:
@ewa2014 please I need more info on the MMC clinic. what's the full meaning of MMC and what city is it located? Their contact details too. Thanks.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 2:04am On Aug 09, 2015
No, I contacted them but I dint use them... Use the MMC clinic itself... Their doctors would attend to you... Tell them you are self paying and you get to pay $1100 for prenatal testing and drugs, sonogram and delivery. It's a package that makes sense...

If u use any of those naija doctors you are looking at within 3-5k in addition to the 6k hospital charge for two day stay.

bigfido:
hello dear. please did you use doctor ukpabi or onyieke?
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 2:53pm On Aug 05, 2015
I got mine over the phone but I was already here..PM me.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 2:12pm On Aug 05, 2015
It was normal.. CS is 2000 dollars more expensive and u stay 4 days in the hospital.

koko83:
congrats Ewa. landed newyork yesterday and going to wucoff today. was your delivery at MMC normal or CS
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 10:25pm On Aug 04, 2015
6k is for two days hospital stay for VD ... Hospitals in New York ain't smiling o, some give you quotes per day sef ... LoL.

Doctor falls under the 1100. Which also includes prenatal care, ur drugs, sonogram, prenatal tests, etc etc..

People who don't know about the 1100 end up paying 6000 for the 2 days hospital stay and additional 3000-4000 for gettin their own doctors.. I almost did this, intact I contacted to Nigerians doctors affiliated to the hospital before I found out about the all encompassing self pay 1100 discounted rate.

So it's best to use the full hospital package with their own doctors ...

firsttymum:
I don't get
Is the 6k plus Drs fee? Or it's the 1100 that's d Drs fee...
Or they don't have Drs fee? And then is it only for staying there for 2 days that's d 6k?
I don't understand the quote
In my opinion the 1100 pretty much covered a lot
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014: 9:45pm On Aug 04, 2015
In the spirit of giving back, I had my baby some days ago in New York. I checked Wycoff, Queens Medical Center, kings county hospital Brooklyn, jamaica hospital, new York Hospital Queens but eventually settled with MMC (Mercy Medical Center) cos they had a straight forward pricing and honestly I got top notch satisfaction from the level of care I received.

Prenatal visits and care, tests, sonogram and delivery cost at the hospital's care center is 1100;
2 days hospital stay with sumptuous food (and a celebration dinner for the couple...LoL. let's just say I like food too much sha ) is 6000;
Epidural 1000.
Several tests and vaccines were administered during the 2 days stay and it's all inclusive in what you paid (tdap, hep B, hearing test, vit K, etc etc).
2 post partum visit for mother is also included but you pay 85 for pediatrician to see baby after discharge.

I got all my receipts and awaiting Zero balance letter.

BC and SSN is being processed by the hospital and I can start passport application afterwads.

All in all, fantastic hospital and experience.

And HONESTLY we need to start combing out new hospitals as well that will be beneficial to others too..

That is the reason for the change of intent. You notify the embassy that the visa was obtained for vacation but u r now preggies and want to have ur baby in the USA. Look thru the thread, there r several formats, I even posted mine too.

All the best. queenestty

Congratulations to all the mummy's for successful POE.

Pls help from those who inform the embassy for change of intent.

In a situation whereby a family was issue a visa for vacation and the VO did not ask if the woman was pregnant as at the time of interview and their was no intention to give birth as at the time of interview so the woman did not mentioned it.

But now she wants to use the visa for vacation and birth with the family.

1. Can she still send to the embassy change of intent

2. How long does it take for them to response

3. What could be her chances as she was 3 months preg as at the time of interview.

Pls advice. Thks

It was a to whom it may concern letter.

The report was just one page containing my name, gestational age, due date and a brief summary of my tests so far. Then they attached all my test results from the beginning of my pregncy as well as my scan reports too.

Was signed and stamped. Shikena.

@spagg56 Mercy Medical Center, Rockville centre, long island.

spagg56:
@ ewa2014 pls wat hosp u using in NY?
quote author=ewa2014
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by ewa2014:
@koko83 Yes the hospital accepted all my tests n reports and uploaded in their system... But they still did their own tests... It was as good as free cos the prenatal test, sonogram , drugs, appointment and cost of delivery was in a package of about 1,100. Hospital charge is 6k though but then again, it's NY so it's reasonable...

About accommodation, I'm staying with Family too at the moment but moving to an apartment at the end of the month.

Check air bnb and craiglist... I got one for 65 a night, another for 80 a night... Some cost btw 1000 to 1200 a month but mostly basements and I won't advice that for baby's sake. The one I'm taking is roughly 1500 a month plus utilities... so lemme know when u get in, cos I'm leaving 31st August. I could hand over to you.

koko83:

Pls I tried to PM you.Kindly check your email. Thanks. @dyout

I GOT THIS FROM THE FORUM SOMETIME AGO. KINDLY CHECK IF IT IS HELPFUL

In the spirit of giving back. Here is my birth story.
I gave birth to my baby girl March 17th at United memorial medical
center, batavia New York through C.S. Stayed in the hospital 3 days
for all. The hospital offers a 60% automatic discount for self pay. Got
my bill for 3947.69 for mother and 1407 for the child, total of 5354.
Doctor's fee for ante natal and delivery was 1499.4 (I was scheduled
for natural delivery with a mid wife but had to go for c-section last
minute, which included a doctor in the package. The fee above also
include all the meal I had for 3 days. The service was awesome,
everyone including the doctor's were very friendly, nice and
professional.
I let them know before I delivered that I was going back to Naija in
less than a month after delivery so they could process my birth cert
and bills on time.
I filled the birth cert form before I gave birth and gave them baby's
name on delivery. They filled for the cert on friday, I called the
county's office on Tuesday and I was told it was mailed to me the
monday after that friday. I guess they used regular mail cos I didn't
get it that week, went to their office the following Monday, paid 10$
for another copy which I usedto apply for her passport. I paid 165$
for the passport and got it sameday. I mailed her passport to the
agent for the Naija visa for 342$ (Tanko hardly picked his calls, felt
safer using a company's service). They got the passport Tuesday
Morning, got the visa same day and mailed it back to me. I got the
passport the next day Wednesday. I have gotten my zero balance letter
from the hospital. Leaving for Naija today.
Hope this helps someone.

Hospital and all for 2-3k in New York... Babes, that would be a difficult one o... I visited at least 5 hospitals in different parts of New York and the cheapest I got is about 8k+ for normal delivery with epidural, prenatal visits, one sonogram, 2 day hospital stay. Well except for wyckoff that offers their for 6500.

Try and get an all inclusive package... Not the ones that will Bill u and baby separately and ensure u flee from mediaid.. cos most of them were saying baby qualifies for mediaid and all that..

All the best.

Yonkers:
Thanks to very one for their contributions.
Am currently in new york and am due next month. Gone round some hospitals and it's quiet strange to them that I don't want any insurance even when they strongly feel I qualify because am pregnanT.

It took me time to convince My uncle am sTaying wiTh the legal inplications of Medicare. He even registered me and they sent the documents to the house. I had to call them to cancel it that I don't need it.

Now am attending atenatal at the community health hopital and was told that on the day of delivery I will use mont vernons hospital that's were they do delivery and all my records will be sent to them. Hope to see a doctor this week. Yet to know the cost.

plssssss does any body no about the hospital? One of the social workers that I met said a lady had CS for 5000$ at Jacobi hospital in Yonkers. Plsssss does any one know about the hospital and how much normal delivery will cost.

Also any other hospital with good cost between 2-3000$ will be fine.

Thank you.

@algfred, if u can get a mail from mercy with their self paying quote that Shud do... The hospital bill for 2 days stay for Vagina delivery is 6k minus prenatal tests, sonogram and delivery. Bearing this in mind, you might want to get cash in excess of 6k. U don't need a quote for anethesia till u get here but if u using mercy, the one they recommend charges 1k for VD and 1200 for CS.

Try and speak to the hospital, tell them to direct you to the family care cente or the person in charge of self Pay.. book an appointment and get her to send u an email summarising ur conversation. She would attach the self pay Bill and ur appointment confirmation.

All the Best.

algfred:
@Olokings. Thanks for your response and advise. I will go ahead and implement action 1. For action 2 to 3. I have started with calls and for Mercy Hospital charges by emaim. I was also advised to contact the aneast. Dept. Seperatly for cost. So i go just do so and also find a doc. With cotact mail. some wey i call and write say dem no dey give cost estimate for delivery unless you walk in to them hospital. So i go try harder and do as you talk. But if i can get info dor NY hospitals wey peic good abeg inbox me for algfred@yahoo.com;
For item4. We get fund small by the grace of God, most are in Naira account i just want to know minimum usd wey i go change make madam use fly incase dem want to see how much she is carrying with the master cards with her.
