The Ekiti state government has explained why it raised the alarm over possible death of Afolabi Akanni, a member of the state House of Assembly. Yesterday Lanre Ogunsuyi, the information commissioner, at an emergency press conference said that the legislator developed an ailment midnight of Thursday and died at dawn. A few hours later, the Department of State Services (DSS) presented Afolabi before the reporters in Abuja to prove that the claim of the Ekiti state government was false. Premium Times reports that Lere Olayinka, the special assistant to the governor on public communications and new media, cleared the air and gave the explanation while briefing journalists on Friday, March 18. “We wish to reiterate that the state government addressed the press yesterday, based on the information available to it and since the DSS was not talking to anyone concerning the status of Hon Afolabi Akanni and others in its custody, the government had no option than to bring the disturbing information to the public domain and also call for calm among residents of the state.” “From the pictures of Hon. Akanni that we saw on television and published in the newspapers, it is without doubt that he is terribly sick and in need of urgent medical attention, and the disturbing information about his death could have been informed by his critical state of health. Hon. Akanni even told journalists that he slumped twice yesterday and that he was refused access to medication. “Evidently and as even reported in the newspapers today, the Hon. Akanni paraded before the press by the DSS yesterday was very sick. “The press reported that he could not stand on his feet and we wish to ask the DSS whether it actually wants him (Akanni) to die!” the statement read in part. Olayinka described the claim by the DSS that it detained Akanni for committing security breach and that it was not aware of a court order on his release as “ridiculous and open display of contempt for the rule of law”. “If truly the DSS has facts and evidences that Hon. Akanni committed offence of security breach, why not charge him to court and prosecute him with the facts and evidences before the service? Or is the DSS waiting for Hon. Akanni to supply evidences with which he will be prosecuted?” he wondered. Olayinka also wondered why Toyin Ojo, the state commissioner for finance, was invited by the DSS. “For clarity, Chief Toyin Ojo was asked by the DSS investigators how much was refunded to Ekiti state by the federal government on federal roads constructed/rehabilitated by the state government and how ecological fund released to the state was spent. He was also asked how Governor Ayodele Fayose election was funded. How are these issues related to the security of Nigeria? What is the business of the DSS with the finances of Ekiti state?” he asked. Commenting on the invasion of the state House of assembly, Governor Ayodele Fayose stressed that the government and the people of the state would never be intimidated to surrender governance to political desperadoes. https://www.naij.com/769565-raised-alarm-lawmakers-possible-death-ekiti-government.html |

The united States announced a restriction on its servicemen barring them from travelling to five countries in West Africa. According to Reuters, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Falvo who is a spokesman for U.S. Africa Command made this known on Wednesday, March 16. The order restricts unofficial visit by service men to Senegal, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Ghana, This order was given due to the recent terrorist attacks in the region. Falvo said: “It’s just increased vigilance given the recent events that have happened in that area of the world.” On Sunday March 13, 19 people were killed at a beachside resort in Ivory Coast. The attack was reportedly carried out by Al Qaeda’s branch in North Africa. The same group also claimed responsibility for a January attack on a hotel and restaurant in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou that killed 29 people as well as a November hotel siege in Mali. A spokesperson of Pentagon, Lieutenant Colonel Michelle Baldanza said the order does not restrict official travel but the unofficial visits were banned till June30. The U.S. Africa Command has between 1,000 and 1,200 forces on the continent mostly in training and support roles to help local security forces combat militants. Meanwhile, the US as condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist bombing at a mosque on March 16 near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. According to reports, the 32-year-old barber from Aku, Enugu State took a bike and argument ensued between him and the motorcycyclist when he paid. The man insisted his money is N60 instead of N50. It was alleged that attracted his colleagues to the scene by shouting "thief". The mob gathered and started beating Ikechukwu after which they set him ablaze. Confirming the tragic incident, Mr. Ezema Virginius Chukwudike, the taskforce chairman of Abuja Spares Dealers Association, Apo, said "The mob that gathered following the alarm collected tyres from a vulcanising workshop near the scene and set the deceased on fire" The next day, angry Igbo men in Apo blocked the road and started attacking any vehicle or Keke Napep with Hausa person or people who look like Hausa. Fortunately, the police were able to stop the riot before it escalated. Speaking to Daily Trust, a friend of the deceased, Chukwudi Orji said he learnt about Ikechuwu's death when he got home at about 11p.m. "I saw the fire, but I did not know that someone was inside. There was smoke everywhere; there was no way you would have known that there was someone in the fire, except you were there or somebody told you about it," he said. "If I had known about it on time, I would have tried to save him because he was innocent," he added. Speaking further, Mr Chukwudike said, "When news of the incident spread, people became angry. They wondered why the motocyclists would burn an innocent man. Even the man who voluntered to carry the corpse after he had been killed, was chased away" He said this is not the first time that motorcyclists are killing someone over a paltry sum of money. "A similar thing happened in Kabusa, when a boy was stabbed because of change. Another man was killed on Wumba road. The same change issue led to the death of a man in Damagaza. In his case, after he was killed, they kept him near a river until the next day," he said. Chukwudike said the last time such an incident occurred in the area, the traders protested and that it took the intervention of riot policemen to bring the situation under control. "Because the motorcyclists knew what they did, they boycotted this route from Sunday evening until policemen were deployed to the area." Azeez Akinola, Anigbo’s boss at the barbershop, corroborated Chukwudike story, saying the attitude of motorcyclists in the area is a cause for concern. Akinola who lives around the area where the late Anigbo lived, said he and two other people rushed out of their houses when they received news of the incident, but that the motorcyclists at Kabusa junction refused to take them to the scene. Akinola who had worked with Anigbo for more than four years in a small barbershop at NEPA Junction, Apo, said it took them a longtime to find a motorcycle to convey them. He said when they arrived the scene, they saw several people with sticks, but that they did not understand the magnitude of what had happened until someone pointed to the corpse of Anigbo in the fire. "I could not believe it. There were heaps of iron treads from the burnt tyres on his body," Akinola said amidst tears. "He was very gentle," Akinola continued." If small wound touch am, he go treat am for more than one week. I.K. can’t ride a bicycle, talk less of motorcycle. Because of fear, he refused to learn driving despite the fact that they were many people around to teach him," he said. He said the matter was reported at the Apo Police Station, where he wrote a statement before police officers took the corpse to a mortuary. When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Anjuguri Manzah said, "there was an early morning disagreement between two opposing groups that could have resulted in a clash but it was averted by the timely intervention of anti-riot police personnel." Manzah said the FCT Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, warned people of the area to desist from violence at the wake of the disagreement and promptly deployed police officers to the scene. The commissioner assured residents of the area and other parts of FCT that adequate measures have been deployed to contain the situation, investigate and unravel the remote and underlying issues behind the upheaval. He reiterated that any attempt to jeopardise the existing peaceful and serene atmosphere in the Federal Capital Territory will not be tolerated. Though normalcy has returned to the area, the relative peace enjoyed may not last for long if a lasting solution is not proffered. Chukwudike said government should stop motorcyclists from arming themselves with daggers. "Why should government allow them to move around with daggers unchallenged?" he asked. There are several versions of the incident, while some insist that the late Anigbo did not commit any crime, some alleged that he attempted to snatch the motorcycle he rode to the junction but was overpowered by the motorcyclists. However, it is hoped that the police through their investigation will be able to give a clearer picture of what actually transpired. The apartment of a carpenter in Suleja named Tunji Alao was filled to the brim, as people trooped to catch a glimpse of one Adebayo Adewunmi who was caught pants down with Alao’s wife. Sources report that the incident took place on Tuesday, March 8 at Suleja, Niger State. The devastated husband reportedly shouted for help to arrest the 52-year old bus driver, who was caught in the act, having an affair with his wife, Funmi, on their matrimonial bed. Residents say the duo were caught in the act at about 12:14pm with an innocent baby belonging to Mr and Mrs Alao, watching the “movie” and crying. Adebayo was naked, sweating when helpers trooped into Alao’s room. He was struggling to wear his jeans trousers but Alao and his brother were resisting him. Neighbours and other passers-by who gathered in response to Alao’s call for help stopped Adebayo from having access to his dress. The unlucky man was uncomfortable, cupping his stretched manhood with his two hands, begging for mercy. He was in that state for about 15 minutes when men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Suleja, who were alerted arrived the scene to arrest the culprits. Wanton wife, Funmi Alao and her baby who helpless watched while her mother was having an affair As the police arrived the scene, more people gathered to catch a glimpse of the naked bus driver who was later whisked off. But before he was taken away, the crowd that gathered had directed him to pose for different shots using their mobile phones to snap him. It must be noted that some of the various shots obtained were deemed too graphic to be uploaded. The Breaking Times reports that Alao’s wife who is on the fat side, was also half naked, sweating at the time they were caught. She was crying, clutching her baby who innocently watched Adebayo ravage her mother some minutes earlier. She was also arrested and whisked away by the police. Tunji Alao and his brother, Seun Alao also joined them at the police station where the matter was formally reported. Alao told the police that he had heard rumours about her wife’s adulterous life but that he did not believe it. He said: “I am a carpenter. I work in sites. Most times, I travel for work. But before I go, I always make sure that I provide my family’s needs. “So, when I was alerted by, at least, four different persons, all my neighbours that my wife has been coming home with strange men, I found it difficult to believe. “They told me that one of these men is a bus driver and that he is more regular than others. “My brother also joined in peddling the same rumour. It was at this point that I had an agreement with my brother that we should do something about it. “So, yesterday evening (Monday), I told my wife that I had a job outside Abuja and that I would be away for few days. She didn’t know it was a prank and that I was trying to set trap to catch her if indeed she is engaged in such act. “Early in the morning, I prepared and left home. I didn’t go outside Suleja. At about 12 noon, the driver indeed came with his bus; he came with his conductor. “I was told on phone by my brother, Seun, that he gave the key to the bus to his conductor who left the scene while the driver entered my room to meet my wife. “As soon as I got the information, I rushed back home. Some of my neighbours who had earlier alerted me came to confirm the information which Seun gave me. I thanked them and walked away. “Seun and I waited a while before tip-toeing to the entrance door to eavesdrop. Oh my God, my wife was ‘speaking in tongues’ while being ravaged as my baby was heard crying in the same room with them. “I was mad. I wanted to shout but I restrained myself. Certain anger erupted within me and I kicked the door with my leg. With the violent force, the door gave way and I was face to face with a strange man on my wife. Worse still, the abomi nable act was being committed on my matrimonial bed! “As the strange man saw me, he was already trying to get up and I jumped at him to hold him. But he struggled to get up, heading towards his jeans trousers which we resisted. “My madam also stood up, made for her wrapper to tie which I initially resisted but on a second thought, I allowed her. “It was after the bubble had burst that my madam could hear the cry of her baby. She went for her and brought out her breast as if she wanted to feed her. “Seun and I held on to the strange man caught in my room as he attempted to wear his clothe. When he was getting stronger, I shouted for help and people trooped to the r “Both culprits were begging but neighbours insisted that the man must not go scot-free. “Of course, Seun had also arranged for police who came in to arrest the culprits. “I was told that this is not the first time he did it. I learnt he is a regular ‘customer’. “Unfortunately, I married Funmi not just because she is pretty but because of sympathy I had for her. “She was married before; she had two kids in the marriage. She was caught sleeping with another man in the first marriage and was sent packing. “She told me her story. She explained that she was always at home doing nothing and that an idle hand could be a devil’s workshop “Her story moved me and I promised to marry her and em power her. She is presently an apprentice in a hairdressing salon. I thought she won’t do it again. But it appears it is in her blood,” he narrated. Adebayo who was looking sober said he hails from Abeokuta in Ogun state and that he is settled with his family in Gwagwa, Abuja. He admitted that Funmi was her mistress but that he agreed to date her because she told him that she was not in any man’s house. “I have been going to her house really when my job schedule is light. I didn’t know she is married. “If you enter her room, there is no sign that any man is living with her. I am so sorry. If I had known, I wouldn’t have continued with this relationship. My family will be disappointed with me if they get to know about this. “I ask for mercy. It won’t happen again now that I know her correct status,” he begged. When it was the turn of Funmi to explain, she said she would like to make some confession privately. But she apologized to her husband, first, for what happened and begged for mercy, saying it would not happen again. However, while making her private confession, she told the po lice officer interrogating her that it was actually not her fault having extra-marital affairs. She said that what attracted her to the lecher in question were two things: the size of his organ and the special way he handled her on bed which she could not get from her husband. She said she was embarrassed with what happened and had learnt her lessons from the incident. The culprits were detained for few hours before they were re leased after Tunji told the police that they would resolve the matter amicably. The Authority on Saturday however learnt, as at the time of fil ing this report that Tunji had sent his wife packing. In the same vein, a pastor’s wife has reportedly bee caught with a choirmaster in an unnamed hotel in Asaba, the Delta state capital. The clergyman told newsmen that there had been reports everywhere about his wife’s acts before he caught them red handed. https://www.naij.com/762440-shocking-husband-catches-man-pants-down-with-his-wife-photo.html |

The issue of fuel scarcity is a bane in the neck of Nigerians but in Abuja, a motorist and fuel attendant took the annoyance a step further. Long queues have been recorded in many parts of the country in petrol stations and in situations like this, tempers are high as people are in a hurry to get fuel and leave. In Abuja however, a motorist and a petrol attendant would not keep their fist in their pockets and exchanged ferocious blows. long queues in petrol station due to scarcity long queues in petrol station due to scarcity It is not difficult to deduce that the fight is not unconnected to the fuel scarcity problem as the few stations selling fuel have to deal with impatient customers. Two fighting! petrol attendant, motorist engage in a fight The unavailability of fuel has also increased the business of black marhet distribution as people struggle to purchase fuel and later sell to customers who cannot brace the storm. Onlokkers try to intercede as fight breaks in petrol station Fist for fists: fuel scarcity fuels temper The good news however is that the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria have called off their strike action after a meeting with the government. Hopefully, fuel stations will be decongested and normalcy will be restored. https://www.naij.com/759222-whos-master-see-fuel-scarcity-caused-abuja-photos.html |

Many people hold certain negative views about the Nigerian Police Force and its officers. But stumbling on the Instagram page of Aliyu Giwa might just convince you that views are not correct. The page,@aleeygiwa, has quite a lot of followers on Instagram and a day does not pass without Giwa trying to portray the police as being always your friend. He looks clean, positive and in numerous interactions with people he is said to be one of the few good eggs in the police force. One of his captions that caught our attention is: ”I love my job… Honestly been a policeofficer teaches me reality, teaches me of life, shows me the Good, Bad and ugly of human nature… I adore the fact that each day that passes by… der’s someone new to help, Someone new to save perhaps Or sometimes I’m too late… and that too is life! I meet many many people throughout my daily tasks Some like me, some respect me, some disrespect me, inshort Some by mere seeing a policeman they just wish I’d burn in hell!! Most tolerate me and realize that I am there for a reason… It’s my job! Been a cop teaches me to count my daily blessings! To be thankful for what I have because so many have so little & It teaches me to value every minute (becuase I see what you can’t stand), to seize the day and save the day, and find that life within it!! This same job teaches me a love of other people… To look beyond myself as an OLOPA(policeofficer) and walk in other’s shoes. Have I mentioned yet… How much I love my job and the people around me? ? ! ! Because if I haven’t…I really should… Because I do!! #PoliceIsYourFriend #Police #Ekelebe #Dansanda #Olopa #NigeriaPoliceForce #NPF” See some of his cute photos below: He is like a fresh air away from the drunk-staggering police officers we’ve heard about! Members of the Ekiti state House of Assembly revealed that they were offered $1 million to remove Governor Ayodele Fayose. Some members of the Ekiti state House of Assembly have raised alarm over an impeachment plot and revealed that they were offered $1 million to remove Governor Ayodele Fayose. Vanguard reports that the lawmakers vowed not to collaborate with anyone who wants to truncate Fayose’s government. Briefing journalists on Tuesday, March 8, Gboyega Aribisogan, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, revealed that some men of the Department of State Service (DSS) from Abuja were involved in the sinister plot. However, Aribisogan stressed that the lawmakers were ready to spend the rest of their tenure in DSS cell instead of joining people who are plotting to political instability in Ekiti state. “In the last four days, eight of our members had been visited by some men, who claimed to be officials of the DSS. “Our members were told that their names were among those to be arrested and they must ‘cooperate’ if they do not want their bank accounts frozen and be kept in DSS detention indefinitely,” Aribisogan said. The lawmakers noted that the 2006 experience, in which members in Ekiti state House of Assembly were detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and made to sign impeachment of Fayose on the table of the EFCC boss would never be repeated in the state. Aribisogan also recalled in his speech that last Friday armed men of the DSS invaded the state House of Assembly and abducted four lawmakers. “We are here to inform the public through your various medium the open involvement of men of the Department of State Service from Abuja in the plot to unseat our state governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose. “Last Friday’s invasion of the state House of Assembly by armed men of the DSS in which four of our members were abducted, has been established to be a prelude to the clandestine plot to coerce members of the House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fayose. “As at today, even Hon Afolabi Akanni that we were able to confirm was with the DSS in Abuja is being held incommunicado. No one has been given access to him, not even his lawyers and doctors. We do not have any information as to the whereabouts of the other three. “We are aware of the plot to arrest no fewer than 18 of our members with a view to forcing them to sign impeachment notice against Governor Fayose. “The plot is being hatched by the same elements who masterminded the impeachment of Governor Fayose in 2006, which was eventually declared illegal by the Supreme Court and they are boasting of support of the DSS and the presidency. “In the last four days, eight of our member had been visited by some men, who claimed to be officials of the DSS. Our members were told that their names were among those to be arrested and they must “cooperate” if they do not want their bank accounts frozen and be kept in DSS detention indefinitely. “They went on to promise that proper arrangement had been made for the impeachment of the governor, with a sum of $1 million already earmarked for sharing among “cooperating” assembly members. “Also, our members were told that they will be provided with soft-landing in the APC if they cooperate. One of them revealed that they promised to make him the speaker, and eventually the acting governor. Addressing the plotters of evil, Aribisogan stressed that the lawmakers would never do anything to jeopardize interests of the governor and Ekiti people. “Governor Fayose is our benefactor. He is our leader on whose political strength we are members of the State House of Assembly. We can even be called his stooges, we don’t mind.” “We therefore wish to state unequivocally that we are not interested in any $1 million. We won’t because of any blood money join forces with enemies of our state, who are desirous of destabilizing the state just because they lost power.” Meanwhile, Governor Fayose, who was reacting to the invasion of Ekiti assembly complex by men of the DSS , stressed that the government and the people of the state would never be intimidated to surrender governance to political desperadoes. He added that he was not afraid of harassment by any agency of the federal government and he would continue to speak his mind. https://www.naij.com/757363-offered-1m-bribe-impeach-governor-fayose-ekiti-lawmakers-reveal.html |

Chairman of the pan Fulani Development Association,
(FULDAN) Sunusi Ahmed has cried to the concerned
authorities to come to the rescue of Fulani men at Doguwa and
Tudun Wada Local Government areas of Kano State over the
spate of abduction of their women by suspected cattle rustlers
in the state. Sunusi Ahmed who spoke with Naij.com Monday evening, said that reports reaching him indicated that on Sunday night alone, some villages were attacked by armed men believed to be rustlers who made away with 9 women and demanding heavy sums before their release. He attributed the rising wave of kidnapping of wealthy Fulani men and abduction of their families to the amnesty granted by the Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to the repented rustlers without taking measures aimed at preventing the victims from suffering further attacks. He lamented that since the of the amnesty, the people living at border towns of Sumaila, Doguwa, Tudun Wada and other hot spots, have become the target of the suspected rustlers who now rob them in broad day light without any hindrance, and therefore appealed to the state commissioner of police and the Emir of Kano to come to their rescue. Sunusi Ahmed said that FULDAN is exploring other avenues available to them to secure the release of the 9 women abducted on Sunday but said that the path leading to the Falgore forest is a dangerous haven of the rustlers and reiterated his appeal to security agencies to step up their efforts towards rescuing them. Meanwhile, the actions of Fulani herdsmen have been described as more devastating than those of Boko Haram following the continued killing of Nigerians in cities and villages. This was said by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), after a meeting by the southeast zone of the group in Enugu, on Sunday, March 6. https://www.naij.com/756903-rustlers-abducts-9-women-kano.html |
