Career / Inspiring Tale Of Farmer’s Son Who Became Banker Despite Losing Sight At Four by exclusivepp(m): 8:06am On Nov 18, 2017
Except you know him closely, you could almost take a bet on the state of his eyes. Though wearing dark shade at times, his mastery of the environment and ease with which he moves around makes it quite tough for observers to spot anything strange. He talks and acts without leaving much room for suspicion. But beneath this strong posture that many see is a scar that David Okon has lived with for the most part of his 50-year sojourn on earth. Since losing his sight to measles at four, to waiting several years before getting an education, life has taken all manner of curves for the Akwa Ibom State native, constantly throwing challenges on his path.
Born to a peasant farmer, who had many children from different women living under his roof in their rural community, Okon had his dream of becoming big in life killed before it had even hatched. Like most kids in the area, he had dreamt of becoming very successful in life and pulling his family out of poverty. Even though there was little contact between them and the outside world as a result of lack of electricity and other modern technology in their rural community, the young boy was bubbling with life and lots of promises. Nothing could stop him. But sadly, one morning, everything changed.
“I woke up one morning feeling serious pains in my eyes,” he recalled during a chat with our correspondent. “Even though I was about four at the time, I remember feeling as if my eyes were on fire. My parents and everybody in the family were confused. There had never been such in the family. My parents took me to different places and tried all they could to save my sight but by the time it was realised that it was measles, it had become too late. It had affected my eyes beyond redemption,” he said.
That incident marked the beginning of a new and tortuous journey for young Okon – a voyage where there are no days or nights – only constant darkness. Apart from not being able to move around freely like other kids his age, he could not also do the things that he desired at that point. A few years later when the others started primary education, he found himself on a completely different path. Weeping and lamenting characterised his entire days.
“I would spend hours crying in the house because I couldn’t attend school like my mates as a result of the loss of my sight,” he revealed. “Even though my parents enrolled me at the school, the teachers there after some time advised that I should stop coming because it was no use if I couldn’t see what they were teaching me. As a result of my impairment, the other children would make jest of me in class resulting in fight between them and me all the time. Eventually, when I was withdrawn from the school, I felt like my life had ended,” he added.
The coming months and years weren’t completely pleasant for Okon. Besides being at the mercy of children in the community, who would harass and subject him to ridicule as a result of the loss of his sight, nobody around gave him a chance to succeed. He became almost the reference point for everything negative in the area. But one day in 1975, things took a different turn. He looks back today with a grateful heart.
“A church came to do a programme in my village that year and my mother happened to be one of those serving and attending to them. I had to go visit her on one of those evenings and in the process, one of the visitors from the United Kingdom saw me, made enquiry and was told that I was the child of one of the women taking care of them.
“Thereafter she told my parents about a school in Lagos where blind people are taught and become important people in the society. It sounded strange to many people in the village who had wondered how a blind person could become a lawyer or doctor.
“Two weeks after that time, a letter came, asking me to resume at the school. My father who had never been to Lagos embarked on the journey with me. We arrived in Lagos after spending three days on the road from our village,” he said.
Fully enrolled at the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted in Surulere, Okon was set for a new phase in the journey of life. Even though the institution had all the facilities to aid his disability and help him settle in very well, there was still a problem.
“As a result of where I was coming from, I couldn’t speak English like the other kids and so could not communicate with anyone on arriving at Pacelli,” he told our correspondent before bursting into laughter. “There were no people speaking my language there, it was tough for me. To make matters worse, I was used to eating fufu back in the village and here we were talking about amala and others, it was quite strange. It was a whole new environment, so it took a while for me to adapt to the situation.
“I would cry all the time and as a result, my father had to stay back in Lagos, coming to check me from time to time. It got to an extent that the school authorities had to ban him from coming close to the school.
“With time, I managed to get along. I had to learn fast because nobody could communicate with me. From Pacelli, I went to Kings College, Lagos, for my secondary school. It wasn’t easy initially but because at Pacelli, we had been trained on how to cope in the outside world and also taught to type and do our own notes in Braille, I got by quite well,” he said.
While many would have stopped at that point especially considering their family’s poor background, the 50-year-old had other ideas. He wanted more in life. Even though he was visually limited, his dreams were limitless.
“I got to the University of Lagos to study Political Science by the cheer grace of God,” Okon said with a voice filled with gratitude. “My father had many children and didn’t earn much from his farm, sending me to the university would have been a very big deal for him. But somehow, someway, I managed to find myself there.
“I went through university education through the help of some kind-hearted individuals like late Prof. Abiola Ojo. He really helped me a lot in achieving my educational dreams.
“The university environment was a completely new setting, different from the two previous schools that I had been. While some lecturers had pity on my condition and made life easy for me in some cases, others simply didn’t care, preferring to add to my worries. In fact, as a blind student, you were constantly at the mercy of both lecturers and fellow students,” he said.
Having witnessed suffering at different periods of his life, Okon had looked forward to a new and exciting experience upon graduation. A graduate of political science, ending up in one of the big offices that dotted the city centre of Lagos was his ultimate goal even though he had physical limitations. Like most people in his shoes, he threw his resume everywhere, applying for any available job in his quest to get off the labour market. But the more he tried, the more he realised that things were not how he had thought.
“By the time I graduated, I didn’t think I should bother people who had helped me so much with requests for jobs, so I started looking for a job on my own.
“A lot of times, I was denied entry into interview centres because I had no sight. Right from the gate, you’d begin to feel the heat and get the message that you were not needed there even if you had all the qualities they were looking for. On a few occasions where I was invited for interviews, I would be turned down immediately I showed up and they realised that I had no sight. They’d promise to get back to me but of course, that was always the last time I heard from such,” he said.
After toiling so hard without success, luck finally smiled on Okon one day when after attending an interview with an old generation bank, he was given a job. More than 24 years after that period, he has continued to thrive at his duty post even though he had faced emotional and psychological abuse on a number of occasions as a result of the loss of his sight. Revealing how demoralising the experience had been at times, the Akwa Ibom State native told Saturday PUNCH that he had learnt to surmount every hurdle life had placed on his path with dedication and commitment to duty.
“Even though I have remained with the bank for more than 24 years, there are times when people want to deliberately make you feel bad because of your predicament.
“One of my bosses actually told me that his department wasn’t a dumping ground for blind people when I was to be posted to him at a certain period. As a result of that, he ensured that life was very tough for me under him. He is no longer in the system today. I thank God for showing the world that I am not as useless as many of them think.
“There are so many people that I should have been far ahead of in the system today but who are above me because I am visually impaired. I do not feel bad about this but only thank God for how far He has brought me. That is how life is.
“I have seen people whom I grew up with go far ahead of me in life. I have also seen others who are far below me despite not being blind. So, I have cause to thank God for my life and how He has helped me motivate other blind people and persons living with disabilities. Even though I am visually impaired and may not have got to where I would have wanted in life, I am grateful to God because I am doing a lot better than many who even have sight. As the son of a village farmer, nobody gave me a chance to make it in life especially with my visual impairment. But I thank God because today, my life is a testimony to many people all across Nigeria,” he said.
Apart from boasting a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos on top of several professional qualifications, Okon has gained recognition for his efforts in championing the cause of visually impaired people across Nigeria. He told Saturday PUNCH that the thought of his loving wife of 15 years and three wonderful children is among the things that renew his resolve to forge ahead strongly in life.
Crime / Niger Uncovers Syndicate Behind Fake Promotion Letters by exclusivepp(m): 7:57am On Nov 18, 2017
No fewer than 80 fake appointment letters issued to unsuspecting applicants in return for monetary gifts have been uncovered by the Niger State Civil Service Commission.
Chairman of the NSCSC, Shehu Galadima, said the syndicate was inflating the figures of workers in the state civil service to defraud the government.
Galadima said the syndicate, in connivance with some top officials of the Ministry of Finance, issued fake promotion letters to faceless civil servants to defraud the state.
It was also learnt that the syndicate issued transfer letters to workers who wanted attractive ministries, departments, and agencies.
Our correspondent gathered that most members of the syndicate operated within the civil service commission, office of the Head of Service, Ministry of Finance and other MDAs within the state.
Galadima said, “My life has been threatened by some faceless individuals, who are backing the criminals to defraud the state government.
“I have received series of threats through telephone calls from those that are involved in this criminal act.”
Meanwhile, the police in Niger on Friday said it had arrested two suspected robbers terrorising Tunga in Minna, the state capital.
The suspects, Shehu Illiyasu, 29, and Ibrahim Aliyu, 18, were arrested by operatives after robbing one Adamu Mohammed of his motorcycle.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Abigail Unaeze, revealed that the suspects confessed to the crime upon their arrest, adding that they would soon be charged to court.
Celebrities / Man Finds Car 20 Years After Forgetting Where He Parked It by exclusivepp(m): 7:49am On Nov 18, 2017
An absent-minded German driver had his car returned to him 20 years after he forgot where he parked it.
Authorities in Frankfurt found the car in a garage in a building which is set for demolition.
A local resident had phoned the authorities to report the car missing which, after 20 years it had seated rotting in a garage, was deemed unfit to drive.
Police drove the 76-year-old owner to be reunited with his Volkswagen Passat.
The owner thought it had been stolen, Frankfurt authorities said, but it had just been hidden from view and actually exactly where he left it. It was reported stolen back in 1997.
Frankfurt authorities said: “The car can no longer be driven and will be sent to the scrap heap.”
The car had only been discovered because it had been parked in a building which is being renovated.
According to German paper Augsberger Allgemein, the car was getting in the way of building work, so police had to investigate and find out who it belonged to.
There was no word on why the man got so confused in the first place.
Celebrities / Between Wizkid, Davido & Tekno…here Is What Really Happened by exclusivepp(m): 11:38pm On Nov 17, 2017
It had been earlier reported that a face-off between Wizkid & Davido’s crew members caused the chaos at the venue of the One Africa Music Fest Concert in Dubai but the reports of NET claims that Tekno was the victim of physical assault by Wizkid’s crew members.
According to NET, the fight happened as a result of an assault on Tekno by Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are. NET claims that after Tekno’s performance, he approached Wizkid’s camp to greet them and in the process, he stretched his hand to shake hands with Are.
The elderly man took offence at the ‘disrespect’ shown by Tekno and reacted by punching him. According to eyewitness report;
‘Sunday Are was annoyed that a small boy like Tekno can be so rude to shake hands with him instead of bowing down or prostrating’, our source who chose to be anonymous said. ‘He didn’t even calm down, he just punched Tekno and pushed him. Immediately the backstage area erupted as people around Wizkid gathered round Tekno and threatened to beat him up further. By this time Davido was on stage and the fracas spilled over outside. As soon as Davido was done and he heard what happened, he rushed towards the scene with his people.’
The source further said that the organizers were disappointed that Sunday Are who has managed several artistes in the past could make such a move, knowing the tension already in the air.
‘Even Paulo was like “Why would you react like that now…you know Tekno is not even a Yoruba boy and could not have deliberately disrespected you’”
Davido has however showed support for his friend, Tekno with a tweet, declaring that no one would ever touch him (Tekno) again.
Several video clips had shown up online that might have caused fans to think that Wizkid and Davido may have come to blow. This report tells otherwise; although the pop stars do not exactly like each other, things have not degenerated into physical altercations.
However, it remains to be seen if Baba Are would apologize for his (alleged) rash reaction to Tekno. On the other hand, Tekno has been prevailed on by Ubi Franklin, Paul Okoye and others not to react to the matter on social media.

Sarkodie Disrespected At One Africa Music Fest
Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie recently tweeted that he was unable to perform at the recently held One Africa Fest event in Dubai. A twitter user, @SHOLA_YPT then narrated the incident that caused Sarkodie not to have performed at the event.
According to @SHOLA_YPT, Sarkodie could not perform at the event, because the organizers of the event replaced him with Davido. From the tweets of @SHOLA_YPT, Sarkodie was close to being brought on stage by the host, Banky W ; only for an information to be passed to the host to introduce Davido instead. This change of plan was said to have been due to time constraints but it left Sarkodie “disrepected.”

Politics / Court Reserves Judgment On Fg’s Appeal Against Saraki’s Acquittal by exclusivepp(m): 4:51am On Nov 15, 2017
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday reserved its judgment on the appeal filed by the Federal Government to challenge the acquittal of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, led by Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson, reserved judgment after parties adopted their appellant’s and respondent’s briefs on Tuesday.
The date of the delivery of the judgment is to be later communicated to the parties.
The Federal Government had on June 22, 2017 filed an 11-ground notice of appeal against the June 14, 2017 judgment of the CCT acquitting Saraki of the 18 charges of false asset declaration and other related offences preferred against him in September, 2015.
The two-man panel of the CCT headed by Danladi Umar had anchored its decision on the grounds that the prosecution, with its four witnesses and 48 documentary exhibits tendered, was unable to establish any prima facie case against the Senate President.
Umar, in his lead ruling, exonerated Saraki, holding that failure of the prosecution to obtain Saraki’s statement and make it a part of the proof of evidence was fatal to the case.
He said it was “absurd” that neither Saraki’s statement nor the report of investigation said to have been carried out was produced before the tribunal.
He agreed with the defence team, led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), that the prosecution’s evidence had been manifestly discredited during cross-examination by the defence.
He added that the evidence adduced by the prosecution led by Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) was “so unreliable that no reasonable tribunal could convict” based on it.
The tribunal chairman specifically noted that the third prosecution witness, Mr. Samuel Madojemu, who is Head, Intelligence Unit of the Code of Conduct Bureau, only gave hearsay evidence on the information the witness purportedly received from the EFCC.
But the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, through its private prosecutor, Jacobs, on June 20, 2017, filed an 11-ground notice of appeal against the CCT’s judgment.
It faulted all the grounds on which the CCT predicated Saraki’s acquittal, describing the entire judgment as unreasonable and unconstitutional.
Jacobs subsequently filed an appellant’s brief on July 28, 2017 formulating five issues for determination.
Saraki, through his lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), also filed his respondent’s brief on August 22, 2017.
While adopting his appellant’s brief on Tuesday, Jacobs urged the court to grant the Federal Government’s appeal and hold that the judgment of the CCT was perverse.
He also reiterated that the CCT erred by adjudging the oral evidence of the prosecution’s third witness, Madojemu, the Head, Intelligence Unit of the CCB, as hearsay.
He said, “It is our position that the lower tribunal did not consider the evidence adduced by the prosecution.
“The empahsis I will like to make is on the evidence of PW3.
“We argued that there is nothing like hearsay evidence in the oral evidence of PW3, who is the investigative officer.
“There are authorities of the Supreme Court that says once the evidence of a witness is supported by documentary evidence, his oral testimony is merely the hanger that holds the evidence.”
Arguing his five issues for determination in his appellant’s brief, Jacobs urged the Court of Appeal to hold that the Code of Conduct Tribunal was wrong in “upholding a no-case submission raised by the respondent at the close of prosecution‘s case.”
He also urged the court to hold that the learned members of the tribunal were wrong “in holding that the respondent was not invited by the EFCC in the course of its investigation.”
He also argued that the tribunal was wrong “in holding that the investigation conducted by a team of investigators from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Code of Conduct Bureau was illegal and unknown to law.”
He also argued that the tribunal was wrong “in holding that failure to produce the original Asset Declaration Forms and the Written Statement of the respondent, is fatal to the case of the prosecution when the prosecution tendered the Certified True Copies of the documents.”
Jacobs also argued that the Code of Conduct Tribunal was wrong “in upholding the no case submission in the instant case, regard being had to the onus of proof on the parties as prescribed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”
Concluding his brief of argument, he urged the court to allow the appeal and direct Saraki to open his defence before the CCT.
He stated, “In view of the argument canvassed above, we urge your Lordships to allow the appeal, resolve all the issues in favour of the appellant and hold that the appellant has made out a clear case against the respondent to warrant calling upon him to open his defence.
“We therefore urge your Lordships to remit the case back to the tribunal for the defendant to open his defence.”
In his oral submission on Tuesday, Jacobs urged the court to hold that the CCT ruling was perverse.
He said, “I urge your lordship to allow this appeal and hold that the ruling of the tribunal is perverse.”
In response, Agabi urged the court to dismiss the Federal Government’s appeal for lacking in merit.
Agabi insisted that the third prosecution witness’ evidence, contrary to Jacobs’ contention, was hearsay.
He also argued that the prosecution wrongly contended that the onus was on Saraki to prove his innocence, the reason why he said the prosecution failed to call enough witnesses.
He submitted to the court as issues for determination and which he urged the court to answer in the affirmative, “Whether the tribunal was right when it held, contrary to the submission of the prosecution, that the burden of proof was upon the prosecution and not the defendant and that the prosecution failed to discharge that burden.
The charges instituted against Saraki before the CCT related to the alleged breaches of the code of conduct for public officers, acts which were said to be punishable under the Constitution and the CCB/CCT Act.
Politics / Buhari Presents 2018 Budget To N’assembly Today by exclusivepp(m): 1:44am On Nov 07, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari will present the 2018 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly today (Tuesday).
The 2018 budget proposal presentation is scheduled to hold at 2pm.
The Federal Government plans to spend about N8.6tn next year, a jump of about 15 per cent from the N7.44tn budgeted for the current year.
The figures were contained in the 2018-2020 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, which Buhari had earlier sent to the National Assembly in compliance with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.
The PUNCH, however, gathered that leaders of both the Senate and the House of Representatives were making last minute efforts to prevent drama during the presentation.
A source in the Senate, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed on Monday that both the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, held series of meetings with members of both chambers to douse the brewing tension since Buhari’s letter informing the lawmakers of the presentation last week.
The source informed one of our correspondents that some members of the House of Representatives specifically had made moves to prevent Buhari from laying the budget proposal today, while calling for postponement of the presentation.
Leaders of both chambers were said to have begun a massive lobbying of the lawmakers, especially the aggrieved ones, and held meetings with them simultaneously on Monday.
The source said, “The President will present the budget on Tuesday (today) but there is an issue. Some members of the National Assembly, particularly in the House of Representatives, are against the presentation of a new budget proposal when the current one has not been implemented considerably.
“If you recall, there were protests in the House of Representatives when the President’s letter was read last week. The issue now is how to contain the aggrieved lawmakers so that they will not raise their grievances as Buhari presents the budget. Their grouse may be legitimate but we don’t want a situation where the session will record unpalatable drama or become rowdy.
“This is the reason why there have been series of meetings with caucuses in the chambers, including the one by the leaders, which will hold tonight (Monday). Again, it is most likely that there will be a closed-door session at the beginning of the plenary tomorrow; this is another way of preventing a crisis.”
Members of the House of Representatives had on Thursday protested as Buhari requested their permission in a letter to present the estimates of the 2018 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly.
Dogara, however, reminded his colleagues that under the Constitution, they could not refuse to receive the appropriation bill from the President.
Meanwhile, businesses in and around the National Assembly Complex are set to be negatively affected by Buhari’s presence on the premises. It was reliably gathered that a circular was sent to private offices in the building to close shop for the day.
A worker in one of the commercial banks in the building confirmed to one of our correspondents that there would be no banking services today (Tuesday).
A food vendor expressed doubts on whether to open for business as most of her customers would be shut out of the premises.
The National Assembly began beefing up security on Monday ahead of the President’s visit.
As part of the security measures, the management of the National Assembly advised all members of staff, who had no scheduled assignment relating to the budget presentation, to stay away from the premises.
The Director of Information and Publications, National Assembly, Mr. Dibal Ishaku, told The PUNCH that a circular had already been sent out to that effect.
“There is a circular that was issued. It’s even on our notice boards and the content is self-explanatory,” he stated.
The Police and Department of State Services operatives were also seen making security arrangements on Monday at the premises.
Celebrities / Here’s Why Ebube Nwagbo Is Not Yet Married by exclusivepp(m): 3:51pm On Nov 06, 2017
Ebube Nwagbo is the type of woman that would make many men drool, but the actress has said she wants to ‘take her time’ before getting married.
Speaking with Sunday Scoop, Nwagbo stated,
“I believe that everything happens at the right time, which is the time that God ordains. I don’t like abandoning things halfway; I prefer to stick with it till the end. That’s why I have to be very careful about marriage. I don’t think divorced couples go into their marriages with the intention to split.
It is because issues came up that they couldn’t handle or that they did not know one another well enough before getting married. Anyway, I have learnt from the mistakes of other people and whenever I make my decision, it just has to be the right way.”
On her experience with some male fans, she said,
“Some of them can be quite extreme and I always put such people in their place. I try to relate with people equally, irrespective of class or status. However, most of my fans are pleasant and I love them all very much. I appreciate all the females too. But I also want fans of celebrities to know that as humans, their favourite actor or artiste wouldn’t always be in the best of moods. They should try to be a bit more understanding.”
Celebrities / Here’s The Question An Interviewer Asked Anita Joseph That Got Her Angry by exclusivepp(m): 3:43pm On Nov 06, 2017
Curvy actress Anita Joseph none for her no holds bar kind off dressing has opened up on why she decided against flaunting her breasts again.
In the interview with The Sun, Joseph also talked about her career and more.
You seem to have bounced back to the industry, why the sudden break initially?
Music made me take a break.
I learnt that you have ‘repented’ and no longer flaunt your cleavages anyhow, how true is that?
I repented long time ago. I wear what’s proper now. I wear whatever suits me and makes me comfortable.
You were mocked sometime ago for ‘claiming’ your friend’s pregnancy, how did that make you feel?
That wasn’t mockery; it was my pregnancy too. I was part of the plan for the scriptures to be fulfilled.
Do you feel bad that you’re not a mother yet?
(Laughs) Feel bad about what?
How then do you handle critics?
I handle critics well and I adjust. No time is late to learn.
Any plan to marry soon or join the trend of baby mamas?
I can decide not to answer you. But I choose to. Marriage comes when it comes. I’m not bothered about it. And if by any way he shoots and I get pregnant, it’s a big congratulation to both of us.
What’s your kind of man?
My kind of man must be spirit-filled. He must be a man that fears Jehovah God. There’s nothing more attractive to me than a man that loves God. He must make me laugh. He must possess a good sense of humour. He must also be a power dresser and smell good.
Can you marry an actor or a comedian?
Yes I can. I don’t like loud men. I don’t like a man that picks or blows his nose anyhow, especially in the public. I love a man that I can fart in his presence and he will tell me ‘well done, Princess’. He can fart too in my presence, that’s okay. But too much of everything is bad o.
Is that man in your life right now?
Yes, of course. My favourite food is beans and afang soup. So, I’ll be indoors with my man. I don’t do cinemas. I have a good TV at home. I’ll buy popcorn and soft drinks; then put off the light. No cinema can give me that kind of pleasure.
What do you like most about your man?
He treats me like I am the only woman on earth, and he loves God.
I hope he doesn’t feel jealous seeing you kiss and cuddle on the screen?
(Laughs). He feels jealous sometimes. But he knows it’s an act and he trusts me.
What’s your unforgettable experience as an actress?
Hnmm… it’s when a guy tapped my buttocks. I can’t forget that day. I wanted to remove my shoes and pursue him. But the actress in me held me back.
Is your butt the most cherished body part?
No. I don’t think so. I cherish every part of my body.
You are well endowed behind, would you insure it for a certain amount of money?
I’m not into such things. I might though, I honestly don’t know yet. But if…
I know you can be very daring; can you act nude for like N5 million?
Are you trying to insult me right now? Are you well at all? Don’t put that sh-t in my interview. At least call better money, I will reject that (N5 million).
Can you say you are a fulfilled woman?
I don’t have everything I want right now but I am contented and grateful. I don’t have it all but I am good.
Lots of celebrity marriages are crashing, does that scare you from venturing into it?
It’s not only celebrity marriages that are crashing. It’s everywhere. And no, it doesn’t bother or worry me. In fact, it makes me stronger and reminds me that when I finally marry, I must remain married because they are wolves out there waiting to devour it.

That’s not all, his birthday went unnoticed by the label as its their custom via social media. A quick look at Mavin Records official social media platforms did not show any recognition of the singer’s birthday apart from a late post from Don Jazzy.
Another inside source tells us that ‘The record label has not had a particularly great year. Most of the Mavin output has been poor apart from perhaps Tiwa Savage, Reekado and Johnny Drille’.
Efforts to get comments from both parties since the time of this report has yielded no results.

Politics / CAN Commends Fayose For Declaring Intention To Run For Presidency by exclusivepp(m): 1:05pm On Nov 02, 2017
Intention To Run For Presidency
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended the Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose for declaring his intention to run for president in 2019, Daily Post reports.
In a letter signed by the association’s National General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Musa Asake, Fayose was described as honest and courageous.
CAN, in the letter, described Fayose as one who would “move this country forward.” The letter read:
Unarguably, you have done what many of our politicians, Christians in particular, do not have the courage to do. This is why I agree with you, hook, line and sinker, when in your speech you said inter alia, “You are all witnesses to my commitment to this party in this difficult period, where I have demonstrated uncommon courage that makes me stand out as capable of leading our country at this time.”
Your Excellency sir, because you are known to doing great in your leadership and that you will move this country forward, the enemies of progress are not happy with your declaration and are not sleeping well.
The devil will use many, even those who might be closer to you to try to create lies, false accusation, spread rumours, just to distract people from seeing the good leadership qualities that are in you.
In times like this, if honest and courageous leaders like you are not careful, this can bring discouragement. Be assured that the Lord who has led you in your leadership as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State at this time, will never let you down. Your critics have the right to say whatever they want, that is to be expected anyway. No leader should expect applause from his critics.
The leader that Nigeria really needs is the one that shuns the cosmetic approach because he knows it is superficial and the “quick fix it” approach because he knows it is temporary. The country needs a leader who has the courage to face problems honestly, the wisdom to understand them, the strength to do something about them and the faith to trust God to do the rest.
Politics / He’s A Talkative – Reno Omokri Blasts Governor Aregbesola by exclusivepp(m): 2:56pm On Nov 01, 2017
Reno Omokri Blasts Governor Aregbesola
Former presidential assistant, Reno Omokri, has condemned recent comments by Osun state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola against President Jonathan and the PDP.
In a statement on Tuesday, Omokri said Aregbesola is a “lazy talkative” and a “confused man suffering from verbal diarrhoea”
Omokri said blaming Jonathan and the opposition for his (Aregbesola) inability to pay salariesis another one in the long list of blame gaming the All Progressives Congress (APC) governments at all levels are well known for.
“It is not surprising that the usually loquacious Governor Aregbesola has been quiet about the $25 billion scam at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and chooses to distract the public with this fallacious revision of history. To put things into perspective, this scam is the single largest scam in the history of Nigeria since 1914”, he wrote.
“For the avoidance of doubt, calamity did not strike the Nigerian economy on June 2014 as alleged by Governor Aregbesola or at any other time that former President Jonathan governed Nigeria.
“Perhaps Governor Aregbesola is confused and meant to say August 2016 when Nigeria officially entered into recession for the first time in 25 years due to the mismanagement of the economy by the APC administrations at all levels.
“Contrary to Governor Aregbesola’s verbal diarrhoea, the Jonathan era, spanning 2010 to 2015, witnessed an era of unprecedented growth in which Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product consistently grew at over 6% per annum and our economy became the largest economy in Africa and the third fastest growing economy in the world according to CNNMoney. In that time frame, inflation was at single digit rate, the Naira was stable at under 200 Naira to a dollar and petrol sold at ₦87 per liter.
“Rather than blame Dr. Jonathan or the PDP for his massive failure in office, Governor Aregbesola is advised to look at Anambra state where the state government is not dependent on the Federal Government but has creatively come up with ways to generate revenue without taking loans or the bailout handed out by the APC led Federal Government.
“Anambra has become self sufficient in food production and is exporting agricultural produce to Europe and Asia whereas Osun state under Governor Aregbesola which has a larger and more fertile land mass is borrowing left right and center and failing that, begging for funds from national and multinational institutions.
“My question to Rauf Aregbesola is whether the Governor of Anambra has two heads whereas Aregbesola has only one? The answer is that the Anambra state government is not headed by a lazy talkative who believes that all there is to governance is to wait for monthly manna from Abuja.
“No matter how much federal allocation you give a governor, if he has a consumer mentality, it will never be enough. Aregbesola is an example. No matter how little federal allocation you give a governor, if he has a producer mentality, it will be turned into more than enough. Peter Obi and Willie Obiano of Anambra are examples.
“Thankfully, the great people of Osun state have seen through the emptiness of their Governor and his APC which is why they voted overwhelmingly against them and for the Peoples Democratic Party in the recent Osun West Senatorial District election where the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke, trounced the APC’s candidate 97, 280 to 66, 115.
“If Governor Aregbesola would only sell the tens of cars in his convoy, reduce the hundreds of millions it takes to run his office, curtail the millions he spends on propaganda and then invest that money in income generating ventures like farms, poultries, micro finance institutions and similar enterprises, he will be able to pay his civil servants instead of passing the buck and blaming Dr. Jonathan who left office almost three years ago.”
Celebrities / Nigerians Consume 400 Million Condoms Annually – SFH Reveals by exclusivepp(m): 7:33am On Nov 01, 2017
Nigerians Consume 400 Million Condoms
Society for Family Health (SFH) has disclosed that Nigerians consume over 400 million condoms annually.
Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday during the launch of Flex condom, SFH’s Managing Director, Bright Ekweremadu, said that the 400 million condom consumption may still be far below the NGO’s estimation going by the rate of unprotected sex in the country.
He said the new brand of condom which comes with a lot of flavours, has more strength and could last longer during the period.
“We have been in the business of condom production for over 30 years. We have done a lot of things in educating people to embrace abstinence with our zip-up campaign. There are obviously sexually active Nigerians who may not totally abstain from sex and this led to our alternative, particularly at this time when HIV/AIDs is prevalent in the country,” he said.
Ekweremadu added that the Society would continue to make condoms available to Nigerians at affordable prices because they are subsidized by donor agencies.
”What we are doing now is expanding choices for the sexually active Nigerians who are using condoms. So we have varieties of condoms with different features to make sex worth it, for those who will use the condom. We are not promoting sex. What we are promoting is responsible sex. If you know you cannot abstain, the best thing is to use condom; it’s safe for you and your partner”, he said.

First Class Nigerian Graduate
A first class Nigerian graduate has taken to Twitter to openly beg people to help her get a job. Odufuwa Sola, 22, from Ogun State, has remained jobless since she graduated in 2015 from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State.
“I’m Odufuwa Sola, I’m a First Class Graduate of Physics with Electronics from Ajayi Crowther University,” she tweeted on Tuesday from her handle @MzKansola. “Kindly help me retweet. I need a Job.”
Ms. Sola did not just make a First Class but was the best graduating student in the university for that year with a 4.83 G.P.A. She had the honour of delivering a valedictory speech in the school.
Ms. Sola’s appeal for help has been retweeted more than 3,000 times by other Twitter users.
But that is just the best she has gotten for now as nobody has asked her to come over for a job interview.
Ms. Sola, who said she was amazed at the rate people retweeted her post, told sources she was inspired to resort to Twitter for help having seen other people with similar situation get help through the social media.
Ms. Sola said she has applied for employment at the Ajayi Crowther University, but that she was yet to get a reply from the school.
She has also submitted applications to several companies and organisations within the country.
“Most jobs I apply for are graduate trainee slots that are science-related,” Ms. Sola said, adding that she was not feeling sad at all that she has not been able to get a job.
“I know the situation of the country, though I didn’t expect it to take so long,” she said. “But I trust God.”
Also, she does not regret studying physics. She said she would do it again and again if she were to start her university education all over. “Physics is fun,” she said.
Ms. Sola’s dream is to work someday as a renewable energy analyst, she told sources.
Meanwhile, she has started learning tailoring at Ijebu-ode, Ogun State, where she resides, while waiting and hoping to be called up for a job interview soon.
“My family has been supportive, everyone around me is just wishing me the best and praying I get a job soon,” said Ms. Shola who lost her dad in 2015, few months to her graduation ceremony.
“My appeal to Nigerians is to help me get a job of my dream and passion. I know it’s not easy out there, but with the help of God, I know something good will happen soonest. Nigerians are good people, it’s just the situation we find ourselves in as a country,” she said.
When Sources contacted the spokesperson of the Ajayi Crowther University, Alvan Ewuzie, he said that giving first class graduates instant employment in the university depended on the availability of space in the department where the student graduated from.

Nollywood actress, Lizzy Anjorin, has been busy working on unveiling her new fashion store where she will be showcasing all her fashion outfits personally designed by her and that has made her not have time in sharing some personal thoughts with her fans.
With the little space she had, she was able to share with her fans especially ladies to learn how to hustle and make decent living rather than going about to sell their body for wealth.
“I know you guyz might be wondering why I didn’t post often lately, but when I don’t post or do write up often, believe me I’m cooking something huge. The moral of the lesson is that; when u don’t post, nobody will ask of u, nobody will leave bad comments and none of your friends that used to call your attention whenever some “social media platform” pick on you, will ever ask of u.. Recently i realise that the people leaving bad comments or saying trash about u are the people that is closer to u, some did not even know u they just hear your story from their friends and some are your man ex, recent customers or intending customers.
“That’s why u must stand tall and work harder, because ‘eniyan bi aparo lomo araye nfe. They don’t wanna see u doing great or see people applauding your efforts, it gives them unbearable headache. Whenever a lady is having massive fight with her fellow ladies base on baseless issues, she need to check her man, her man issa fucking or about fucking her friends or co-workers or having horrible conversation with your friends behind u, of which it will lead to hate of no reason.
“Shine your eyes, stop believing your fellow ladies are into voodoo or sell their body for money, stop hating your fellow ladies; The man that blessed your friends with 50million base on fvck, can fvck u without giving u 5k. Have u heard about God sent?? Pray for one, not a man that u heard he bought this and that for a lady or your friends or colleagues. A man know the lady that her luck works together with his own and behold, he can spend all his fortune on her, so if u run enter that kind of relationship my sister, YOU carry PUS….Y do promo ni o let’s all pray for God sent..whalai o se ko ko”

Celebrities / I Have Many Regrets,if I Had Known I Wouldn’t Have Done Certain Things – Terryg by exclusivepp(m): 8:17am On Oct 30, 2017
Akpako master, Terry G made a shocking revelation in his recent interview with Punch. The singer opened up on his past actions which he’s not proud of today.
In the interview, Terry G said he was “only a victim of controversies,” and mistakes anyone could commit. He said:
“I do not like controversies. I was only a victim of controversies. All that I have done in the past that made me controversial were mistakes anyone could commit.
I am still paying the price for my past. I did certain things I can never do again. I was a young boy, who was just having fun and enjoying music. My past still haunts me as I speak to you, as I am being judged for those actions. I have done things I am not proud of.”
Terry G also talked about how he was criticised for things that have become the norm in the industry today, while also adding that he paved the way for today’s artistes and that all the things he did, he did for the art. In his word:
“I am now a scapegoat all because I represented the streets and I was not afraid to show it. I sacrificed myself for the new generation of artistes. All I was being criticised for are those things artistes do freely now and no one talks about them.
I have many regrets, which I take as lessons in a way. If I had known better, I wouldn’t have done certain things.
But I do not think what I sing or say determines who I am. One day, Nigerians will realise that art is different from reality. I made my mother love Patience Ozokwor because she had the impression that she was a wicked woman because of her roles in movies. I made my father love many musicians too. I made them understand that what they were doing was an art.
Sooner than later, Nigerians will understand that the all the crazy things I do are just for the art; I am an actor. I am yet to do most of the things the new artistes do in their videos, yet people still see me as the most terrible person. In other countries, nobody makes an issue out of those things.”

Hushpuppi In His Fight With Mompha
Tonto Dikeh has shown the side she’s on, following Instagram big boy Hushpuppi’s banter with an ex-friend Mompha. Recall that there’s been defense and anti-defense posts against him.
In a post Instagram user and blogger @Cutie_Juls made defending Hushpuppi, we couldn’t help but notice how Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, who unfollowed and refollowed the ‘gucci’ master, stood up for him.
The post reads;
“After deliberating on everything that happened, I can confidently say without fear that Mompha was never Hushpuppi’s friend. Hush mistakenly thought he had a friend and a brother in Mompha but Mompha never saw him as one.
N!gga was still dining and snap chatting with Hush but there he was speaking ill of him to his wife via text messages as he himself posted online. Men usually do not do this. When their friends move in with you, they will say anything to cover up for them. .
For Mompha to even go and look for “Hush’s daddy’s cab” to snap a picture of it and use it to shame him means he is really petty and a bitter person. They both called out each other on social media but Mompha’s level of “B!tchness” beats my imagination. .
Boi, N!gga be posting his family house and all to prove he is the son of Bill Gate.. boi! .
But who am I to give my opinions on billionaires fight? Oya lemme kukuma go and chop some sleep. .
Lessons learnt-: 1- Becareful whom you let into your life as a friend. Some people only come into your life because they envy you and the only way to bring you down is to get close, know your flaws and use it against you. .
2- To @hushpuppi [hopefully you get to see this] .. Never accept this Mompha back into your life. He has never been a friend to you. A friend who will even keep traces of things you told him in confidence and use it against you when you have issues, has been a traitor from day one. Run from such people. .
@mompha [hopefully you get to read this] .. send your bank details via dm, comments, email, text or whatsapp and let me credit your account with the $5k that you claim your friend owes you. Billionaire sons don’t spend so much time, energy and data on $5k debt so I have decided to save the situation… boi! Both of you should stay away from each other. That friendship isn’t healthy. #cutiesthoughts”.

Celebrities / Minister Of Information, Lai Mohammed Reveals Fg’s Plan To Immortalize Fela by exclusivepp(m): 9:26am On Oct 26, 2017
The Federal Government of Nigeria has made public its plan to make a museum out of the ancestral home of afrobeat legend, Fela.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, revealed this information to the public during his visit to the musician’s ancestral home in Ogun State, along with Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Punch reports.
Lai Mohammed said Fela will be immortalised by turning the house located on NEPA Road, Isabo, Abeokuta, into a museum.
According to him, the museum will be inaugurated “very soon, probably next year.” He further described the plan as laudable and admirable. In his words:
“It is laudable in the sense that this is one of the most positive steps to actually put our rhetorics into action.
We have always said that one of the important assets we have is our cultural heritage, our history and this project, which is going to immortalise the Ransome-Kuti family, is laudable and admirable.
The family, as you know, represent different things to different people, whether you talk about education, emancipation, music or entertainment.
Therefore, this attempt by the government at immortalising the family by preserving and restoring the ancestral home is very commendable.
This is the period we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the death of the maestro himself and I am sure this is within time, as the museum will be inaugurated very soon, probably next year.
The emphasis of this government, whether state or federal, is that the creative industry must be turned into creative economy and this centre is going to be a good model to encourage and inspire the youth.”
Speaking on the development, the governor of Ogun state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun described Fela as someone who was ahead of his time. He said:
“All our icons have a special place in our administration. These are the people who define us, when we go out there and say we are from Ogun State. We can’t call ourselves who we say we are without those giants who lived before us. They laid the foundation that we are all building upon.
And, clearly, the Kuti family is one of those illustrious families that conquered the world, not only Ogun Sate or Abeokuta or Nigeria . Indeed, at times when I am away in the US and I take a cab, the music I hear is that of great Fela himself.
Fela was far ahead of his time. For us, it will be in our interest to let people know his origin, his root.”
