Total reported cases of the coronavirus worldwide passed 30 million in the early hours of Friday. The figure has doubled in around two months — the 15 millionth case was recorded on July 22.

There have been 30,175,496 reported cases since COVID-10 first began to spread in Wuhan, China, according to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.

These figures represent all-time cases, and many of those infected will have since recovered. Many also died — so far 946,063 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19, according to the tracker.

The US has contributed the largest number of confirmed infections that largest proportion of the reported, at just under 6.7 million.

India, Brazil, and Russia are the next worst-affected countries. Between them, those four nations represent more than half of the 30 million cases.

Virologist whistleblower says COVID-19 was intentionally created in Chinese lab.


The Chinese government intentionally manufactured and released the COVID-19 virus that led to mass shutdowns and deaths across the world, a top virologist and whistleblower told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday.

Carlson specifically asked Dr. Li-Meng Yan whether she believed the Chinese Communist Party released the virus "on purpose." "Yes, of course, it's intentionally," she responded on "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

Yan said more evidence would be released but pointed to her own high-ranking position at a World Health Organization reference lab as a reason to trust her allegation.

"I worked in the WHO reference lab, which is the top coronavirus lab in the world, in the University of Hong Kong. And the thing is I get deeply into such investigation in secret from the early beginning of this outbreak. I had my intelligence because I also get my own unit network in China, involved in the hospital ... also I work with the top coronavirus virologist in the world," she said.

So, together with my experience, I can tell you, this is created in the lab ... and also, it is spread to the world to make such damage."

Yan's comments conflicted with the opinion of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and White House coronavirus adviser, who previously cast doubt on the idea the virus was artificially created. In May, he told National Geographic: "If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats, and what's out there now is very, very strongly leaning toward this [virus] could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated — the way the mutations have naturally evolved."

Other scientists have panned the idea that COVID-19 served as a sort of bioweapon or was released by a lab.

Fox News previously reported on Yan back in July, when she blew the whistle on China's alleged attempts to suppress information about its handling of the virus. With a vast network of contacts in Chinese medical facilities, Yan attempted to gather more information about the virus as China blocked overseas experts from conducting research in the country.

Her revelations fueled ongoing complaints that the Chinese government failed to tell the world early on about the virus' threat. Specifically, she believes the Chinese government ignored research that could have saved lives. The State Department did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

In response, her former employer, the University of Hong Kong, criticized her account. A press release noted "that the content of the said news report does not accord with the key facts as we understand them.


Specifically, Dr Yan never conducted any research on human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus at [the University of Hong Kong] during December 2019 and January 2020, her central assertion of the said interview."

Yan, who said she was one of the first scientists in the world to study the novel coronavirus, fled China and currently fears retaliation. She was allegedly asked by her supervisor at the University/WHO reference lab, Dr. Leo Poon, in 2019 to look into the odd cluster of SARS-like cases coming out of mainland China at the end of December 2019.

Thousands of people have been arbitrarily detained in Belarus and hundreds have been subjected to torture during a brutal crackdown on critics of the state’s flawed democratic elections.

Belarusians have taken to the streets in mass rallies and protests in the wake of the 9 August vote, which officials said returned a new mandate for the nation’s autocratic president Alexander Lukashenka to perpetuate 26 years in power.

However amid anger on the streets and claims the vote was rigged, security forces have begun to brutally suppress peaceful protesters, NGO Human Rights Watch has reported.

Victims of alleged state brutality interviewed by the agency described beatings, prolonged stress positions, electric shocks, and rape in at least one instance.

They also described being able to see others suffer the same or worse treatment, while presenting injuries including broken bones, cracked teeth, skin wounds, electrical burns, and mild traumatic brain injuries.

“The sweeping brutality of the crackdown shows the lengths to which the Belarusian authorities will go to silence people, but tens of thousands of peaceful protesters continue to demand fair elections and justice for abuses,” said Hugh Williamson, Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch.

He added: “The United Nations and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) should urgently set in motion inquiries to ensure that evidence is collected that could contribute to accountability for grave human rights violations.”

The organisation interviewed 27 former detainees — 21 men and six women — who said they were arrested in the four days after election day.

Dan Peleschuk, 34, a freelance journalist and US national, said his transfer from the Pevomaisky Police Station to the Zhodino detention centre on 11 August saw him subjected to pressure positions while kicked and punched.

“Riot police piled us into what looked like a military truck with benches on the sides, and made us kneel on the metal floor, foreheads under the bench, hands behind the back," he said.

“The drive probably took 90 minutes, but it felt like an eternity. Soon, I couldn’t feel my legs and was crying out in pain. Those who asked to be allowed to get up were kicked and punched.

“When we arrived … there must have been other vehicles in front of us. We would move, then stop, then move again, and the whole time the police were saying, ‘You wanted a revolution, now you’ll see what it’s like! Welcome to the worst place on earth.’"

Meanwhile Dmitry Lukowski, who was arrested on the street and taken to a detention facility, described a corridor full of ‘OMON’ riot officers waiting to beat him and the other detainees.

“At first I kept silent, but then I started screaming,” he said. “I fainted, but they splashed water into my face and continued to beat me. There was blood everywhere and I saw a few teeth on the floor.”

During the ordeal he added that an officer grabbed him by the hair, saying, “So, Lukowski, you want a lawyer?” When he answered, “Yes,” the officer continued to beat him, adding, “So, Lukowski, you still want a lawyer?”

Protests in the country have continued to boil over in the country, with widespread rallies accompanied by more subtle shows of defiance — including the wearing of red and white by mixed groups in the colours of the nation’s pre-soviet flag.

Mr Lukashenka meanwhile has denied anything untoward in his victory with 80 per cent of the nation’s vote, while accusing dissenters of being “western puppets”.

It comes as the EU, which has called the election result “fraudulent”, calls for close monitoring of the human rights situation in the country.

A resolution is set to be brought before the UN’s human rights council in Geneva on behalf of the European bloc by Germany, stating that the council “expresses deep concern about the overall human rights situation in Belarus, and its deterioration in the run-up and particularly in the aftermath of the fraudulent presidential election on 9 August 2020”

It is expected to be accepted by council members, with the wording stopping short of calling for an inquiry, a provision which tends to be applied to the most severe breaches of human rights.

Instead it seeks two formal updates from the UN’s top rights official, Michelle Bachelet, and for the Special Rapporteur to have "free, full and unhindered access" to the country.

Besides when a graduate of a private uni tells you his age is 26 you will see it on his face but graduates of public uni who who spent additional 3 years in school due to strikes will graduate at 30+ and be claiming to be 26years old when it's time to go for job interviews!

I have had the opportunity of interviewing both graduates of private and public universities in Nigeria...the difference is clear like 7Up.

Apart from the age factor what else...private uni. hardly withdraw students cos most of them are children of the zenith class..I have a lot of friends who couldn't make it in federal unis. but colourful, they made their 2.1
