Rooivalk Attack Helicopter (AH‑2)

Fleet Status & Serviceability

The Rooivalk fleet comprises 11 airframes; however, by mid‑2023, only 4 were operational, with several grounded for maintenance, and berely 13 out of 23 engines were serviceable.

As of early 2024, only 2 Rooivalk helicopters were capable of flight under restrictions; the avionics, targeting systems, and self-defence suites are predominantly outdated.

According to additional data, the fleet’s availability stood at a mere 30%, with only 2 helicopters available to support missions due to aircrew currency challenges.

Maintenance and Upgrades
In February 2024, Denel’s fixed maintenance contract expired and had not been renewed, putting deployments in the DRC and Mozambique at risk.
Nevertheless, a R 1.2 billion repair initiative was sanctioned in April 2024 to restore 4 Oryx and 4 Rooivalk helicopters over a budgeted programme spanning 3 years.

Modernisation Plans
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Turkish firm Aselsan details a partnership for avionics modernization of the Rooivalk, with the objective of addressing obsolescence and supportability challenges.

Despite these plans, substantial upgrades have yet to be implemented, and without intervention, the Rooivalk faces the risk of becoming permanently unsustainable.
Government of South Africa.

Atlas Oryx Transport Helicopter
Out of the 39 Oryx helicopters, by mid‑2023, only 7 were serviceable, with none fully operational at that time.

Some Oryx helicopters deployed overseas (for instance, in UN missions) were grounded, and several incurred damage during operations.
Only one Oryx remained operational in the DRC, with repairs scheduled for more through the new funding package.
Not like the SANDF will pick on my opinion and act on it, but f it anyways, I get that South Africa have laws that makes it prioritize locally made weapons over foreign made. But maybe this time around the SANDF should consider buying from outside. Denel Rooivalk and Atlas Oryx are outdated. It would take decades of R&grin, prototype testing and full scale production to come up with new platforms. The T-129 Atak and KUH-1 Surion seem like they will be good replacements.

Bello Turji Reportedly Reaches Out for Peace Following Death of Top Commander Danbokolo

By: Zagazola Makama

Multiple credible sources have revealed that notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji is allegedly making overtures for peace in the aftermath of the death of his top field commander and cousin, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo, who was recently neutralised by security operatives.

Turji, one of the most wanted terror leaders in Nigeria’s North West, is said to be calling for a meeting with other bandit groups, reportedly to discuss the possibility of surrendering and entering into dialogue with the government of the three states of the North West.

Sources said Turji’s sudden pivot toward peace may be directly linked to the loss of Danbokolo, who served as the engine of his terror network, orchestrating and executing violent raids, ambushes, and mass abductions across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States.

“Turji was mostly the public face. It was Danbokolo who led the fighting forces, ran the logistics, and enforced their authority in the forest corridors. This is the first time he has been truly exposed. Without Danbokolo, his operational muscle is crippled,” said a source familiar with the group’s structure.

Danbokolo was fatally wounded during a June 23 operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the HYBRID Forces in Chida village, Fakai District of Shinkafi LGA. He died three days later on June 26, after being moved across several villages in a failed attempt by his fighters to save his life.

Sources believe Turji’s current overture may not be out of genuine repentance but a tactical response to mounting pressure and operational losses.

Security agencies are yet to officially comment on Turji’s reported peace gestures, though analysts advise caution, warning that any engagement should be how to neutralize him.

“Turji must not be forgiven. The government must reject his plea to surrender,”said the source.

No peace for the wicked. He and his cohorts must go and join his cousin.

To protect OPVs or they are planning to get a corvette
It could be for the Dearsan OPV 76, given that it’s a vessel with modular design and can be retrofitted with weapons depending on the mission or roles that would be assigned to it.

It could also be that NN intends to buy a corvette or two soon. The Navy is very serious about following its short term, mid term and long term goals in regards to modernization and based on what is in the long term plans, there is no saying there won’t be corvettes in the Nigerian Navy’s fleet.

Yeah the United States as been sponsoring terrorism covertly and that's why President Trumph is dismantling organisations like USAiD and others. But the facts still remains countries like Iran & Pakistan supports, habours and sponsors terrorism covertly.
Russia as never threaten UK in anyway with a nuclear threat, even with all the UK and NATO involvement in the going war, Russia as shown a greater maturity in handling matters; exanple when the Ukrainians used the "Storm Shadow", Putin didn't just go about ranting about there Nuclear capabilities like other mad dogs.
Yeah right, Mr Trump is looking to dismantle USAiD meanwhile financially and politically supporting Israel.
What is terrorism…?? The use of violence or intimidation to cause fear among common people for political reasons isn’t it.

The unwarranted, unprovoked bombings, illegal invasions and occupations of parts of Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon and even Syria by Israeli forces causing the inhabitants of the said regions to flee for safety count as terrorism, do you agree with me on that…?? What’s the political reason…?? Achieving the Greater Israel objective

North Korea doesn't go around looking for trouble, rather does it funds terrorism.
Iran also didn’t look for trouble, rather it was Israel that attacked Iran first. Not just in 2025. Even in 2024, the Israelis targeted Iranian embassy in Syria which in itself an attack on Iranian sovereignty. What’s worse, Iran isn’t the only victim of Israel’s aggression. Lebanon and Syria are also victims. The problems of the Middle East can all be traced back to Israel. But nope, some of us choose to stay blind and rather spare the rod and spoil the so called children of God.

And speaking of funding terrorism, don’t even think the US and Israel are saints in that department. The beginning of terrorism started with the US funding and training of Afghan mujahideens to fight the Soviets during the Afghan Soviet war. Not to mention the sponsoring of YPG terrorists in Syria, and the recent confession of US senate revealing that USAiD has been used to support Talibans, Boko Haram et al. But as Lurker4Long said and I quote; “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”. At the end of the day, the victors are the ones who get to write history as they see and deem fit. It’s a terrible period for morality in today’s world.

North Korea case is completely different...
As long as a regime or a country don't go around threatening to wipe other people off the face of the map, the west don't really care...
North Korea has threatened, many times, to use nuclear weapons on South Korea or the US or their allies if necessary to protect its sovereignty. They have launched many ballistic missiles into South Korean and Japanese waters in response to the US and South Korea carrying out training exercises. No one dared to carry out any form of aggression against them.

Russia threatened to attack London with nuclear weapons because the UK was getting on its nerves with the support it was giving Ukraine. Russia questioned the right of Ukraine to exist as a state and says its part of the reasons why they initiated their special military operation. No one ever dared to carry out any form of aggression.

China threatened to reunify Taiwan with mainland China by any means necessary including military force. Though China is committed to a no first use of nuclear weapons, there is no ruling out of the use of said nuclear weapons if the United States interfere.

And now Trump says it’s time for peace after throwing the first punch and threatens that if Iran should retaliate, the United States would respond more brutally compared to the bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites. What a coward move. Mind you, an attack on a nuclear site is no less an attack with nuclear weapons.

Now if you would just answer these questions of mine.

Good development. However, are we not over focusing on strike equipment? We already have our ATAK T129 gunships from Turkey not to mention our Mil 28 gunships, are these new ones not an over kill? Shouldn't we rather enhance our troop and logistics carrying capacity?
I am not sure that with our current chopper-borne troop carrying capacity we are able to deliver 250 well armed and supported troops by chopper anywhere in Nigeria now. This would have been critical for reinforcing our forward bases when under attack or cutting off and annihilating fleeing ISWAP forces and bandits.
In any case, buying any equipment from a major geopolitical power like the US comes with the risk of them telling you where you may or may not use their equipment!!
Nigerian Airforce doesn’t operate the Mil Mi 28. I believe you were referring to the Mil Mi 35. Recently, there hasn’t been much footage of the Mil Mi 35 in internal security operations. Last we saw of them was when the airforce organized an open day event for civilians to know more about the airforce. I will assume the Mil Mi 35s are undergoing some serious maintenance or upgrades or possibly the Russo-Ukrainian conflict has halted the supply of ammunitions compatible with the Mil Mi 35.
About the delivery of 250+ personnel by air anywhere in Nigeria, we don’t use choppers for that. That’s the job of tactical lift aircrafts like the C-130 Hercules and the incoming C-295 aircrafts. And I believe the Nigerian Army is working towards acquiring more transport helicopters like the UH-1 Huey for its aviation unit to deliver troops and logistics on time, where needed without having to wait for the airforce.

Among the lies being spread is an effort to undermine Israel’s legitimacy by accusing it of being a settler-colonial state. Those spreading this lie argue that Jews have no historical connection to the land of Israel and that Zionists - those who support the right of Jewish self-determination and national homeland in the land of Israel - came to colonize the land, taking it from the Palestinians beginning in the late nineteenth century. However, this claim ignores the thousands of years of deep connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.

Bidexiii Whyyy…huh

“Thousands of years of deep connection between Jewish people and the land of Israel”…?? What evidence do we have to back up this claim other than biblical narrations. Even at that, the Israelites were said to have “migrated from Egypt to Canaan”. (Which in present day encompasses land from Israel, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. (Greater Israel project rings a bell)).

Thousands of years of deep connection…?? I wonder why Jews in the 1930s were illegally migrating from Europe into Palestine in search of a place to call home.
By your logic, South Eastern Nigerians can enter into Bakassi in Cameroon and say, “we have a deep, historical connection to it, so it is our land”.

The link to the YouTube video you shared, the narrator made mention of a point that the word “Palestine” was coined by Greek historian Herodotus in 5 BC to refer to the Philistines that lived in present day Gaza region. Those Philistines are the original owners of the land before it was ruled over by Jews then Babylonians, Romans, Byzantine, Muslims, Crusaders, Ottomans then the British. So if present day nationals of these former empire decide to say that they have a right to Palestine because they are historically connected to it, does that make any sense…??

Sarcasm, but this post also posits some truths!

"What Iran is allowed to do, according to Israel’s own rules of engagement in Gaza:

If a single Israeli reservist or Likud member lives in a high-rise building, or if a single pistol is nearby, knock down the whole thing

If an Israeli reservist is being treated at a hospital, bomb the sh*t out of it

Since Netanyahu is hiding in an unknown bunker under a densely populated city, drop a bomb every 5 meters indiscriminately until you hit the target. Even if you miss, it’s okay, it’s the intention that counts. (Israel “tried to assassinate” Ezz al-Din al-Haddad 12 times, each resulted a massacre. He’s still alive).

Israelis huddling at a shelter? Surely one of two of them must be Khamas… I mean IDF-linked; so level those places at random, & claim you were aiming for any reservist whose name shows up among the victims. It’s an inevitability if you killed 100 people in one strike, that at least one of them would be a rank & file member of something!

Issue an evacuation order to 80% of Israel, then bomb at will. Anyone who complains, yell at them “we told Israelis to move south”

Bomb journalists, they’re “propaganda operatives” (serious Israeli pretext). Bomb humanitarian workers & doctors to starve the population & collapse their health system, then claim they got in the way or were being used as human shields (or that they are Likud members themselves).

Every time you kill a lot of civilians, keep repeating “they voted for a convicted terrorist (Ben-Gvir), therefore they are all guilty”.

Keep saying “there was a ceasefire on June 12” & “all of this can end now if Israel surrenders and releases the khostages”!
Bomb power plants, seaports, airports, water stations, sewage plants… & claim they all benefited the IDF, since soldiers are humans who use electricity & water (works for Israel every time!)

Shoot anyone with a white flag, & shoot hundreds of kids in the skull, then call the doctors documenting this “Khamas”… I mean “Likud”!

Use only bombs that splinter into ten thousand pieces & kill people in a radius of 500 meters at random!
Those are literally Israel’s rules of engagement in Gaza & this is barely scratching the surface. I can go all day!

PS. For idiots & dingdongs, this post is sarcastic, I don’t approve of violence against civilians under any circumstances. If this post triggered you, blame your darling Israel not me. These are their rules!"
Press their necks. Pls press it very well. If you remove your hand it will pain me. PRESS THAT NECK WELL WELL!!! grin grin grin

History bidexiii, History!!!

Present day Israel, was originally Palestine under British colonial administration. Due to the fact that they were targeted in WW2, Jewish refugees or let me put in the term they were historically referred to, “illegal migrants” in search of a holy land and a place to call home, found their way to Palestine. Evidence Below 👇

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCgiYk7M2T8?si=7RA-09Yxb6HQcMRM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhNPgQ7GDu4?si=chT81zjlHUpH7j_u

Now there is no way Palestine wasn’t populated even before British colonization. There were certainly local Arabs who lived there when Palestine was still a part of the Ottoman Empire. These local Arabs welcomed the Israelis and co-habited with them. A mistake they didn’t know will bite them hard in the future. Fast forward to 1948. Somehow, some way, Palestine becomes Israel and claims to have gained independence after ethnically cleansing and forcefully displacing the local Arabs. Is there even any evidence of that. I mean in the case of Nigeria and South Africa, there are evidences and legacies that proves both countries right to be former British colonies. Where did Israel appear from…?? When and How did the British colonize them and later lead to them gaining independence….??
Crazy and noteworthy point is that the superpowers of then and UN heads wanted to divide Palestine between the local Arabs and the Jews and put Jerusalem under international trusteeship. Present day 2025, guess who has ursuped 90% of Palestine including Jerusalem and intends to expand into Lebanon, Syria and some other Middle East countries in the pursuit of a Greater Israel…??

1948 till date, 77 years of ethnically cleansing and forcefully displacing Palestinians, not to mention the constant terrorizing of nearby Middle Eastern states like Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and even faraway Iran, all but a few entities remain silent to avoid “western sanctions”. However when Palestinians decided to stand up for themselves, it’s a problem…?? The West Bank government of Palestinians that is approved by Israel, do you know why Palestinians don’t regard them…?? It’s because they work together with Israeli forces to oppress them that is why Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank rather follow the leadership of Hamas.

P.S : Hamas is a political party not an armed force. The military arm of Hamas responsible for operation Al Aqsa flood on October 7 is the Qassam Brigades.

Nope, the Iranians launched over 100 ballistic missiles, only 7 confirmed impacts so far.

Iran does not really have what it takes. The combined efforts of the Americans, Jordanians, British and Israelis halted most of the damage.

Israel bombed and killed the Iranian nuclear sites, Air Defence Systems, the head of Irans revolutionary guards, the head of Iran's air defense forces and nuclear scientists.

The losses for Iran are very considerable compared to their response.
The bolded speaks for itself. If Iran could employ the efforts of Allies like Russia and China in protecting their airspace. It would be an entirely different story.

So much for their so called best air defence system Iron dome, they still have to rely on allied protection of their airspace. Anyways, all is fair in love and war.

Buttressing Odunayaw’s response. NAF employs guided & unguided bombs and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems in the form of Hydra 70 rockets to take out ground targets. The APKWS does the job of a missile but at an efficient cost and lesser logistics headache. And given the fact that the internal security operations are low intensity conflicts, the APKWS is perfect for it especially in close air support operations.

NAF also uses unguided 68 and 57mm rockets and I believe it is working towards local production of 57mm rockets.

Again, NAF Jets Decimate Terrorist Enclave in Bukar Meram in Lake Chad

As part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and deny them freedom of action, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has conducted another  successful air interdiction mission at a terrorist enclave in Bukar Meram, located in the southern axis of the Lake Chad region.

Zagazola Makama was reliably informed by sources that the mission, which was executed in the early hourz of Monday, June 9, at about 0545 hours, was carried out under the auspices of Operation KALACHEN WUTA II.

The sources said that the operation formed part of a broader strategy aimed at disrupting terrorist activities before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah period.

He said that intelligence-led surveillance revealed that the terrorists were regrouping at the Bukar Meram location with intent to launch coordinated attacks on Marte and Monguno general areas.

Prompted by this credible intelligence, the Air Component swiftly mobilised to engage the enclave. Airstrikes were conducted with precision, leading to the neutralisation of several terrorists.

The strikes also resulted in the destruction of critical terrorist logistics, including supply vehicles, makeshift shelters, and weapons storage points.

The decimation of the enclave not only inflicted significant losses on the terrorists but also disrupted their operational planning and movement.

The sources added that  Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted after the mission confirmed that the planned attacks on Marte and Monguno were effectively thwarted.

Further intelligence gathering is ongoing to assess enemy reactions and possible movement patterns following the successful interdiction. Ground troops have also been placed on heightened alert to exploit the gains of the airstrike and maintain pressure on fleeing remnants.

No breathing space for terrorists in Nigeria. Kudos to AFN for sustaining the offensive. I hope the federal government will prioritize fencing Nigeria’s borders even if it will require loans. If AES doesn’t want to collaborate to put an end to the issue of terrorism in the Sahel region, no qualms. Nigeria will do what it has to do to ensure security of the state and for the state.

I don’t think the Nigerian Navy Marines unit is aiming to be a large scale force that would put a strain on the defence budget. My guess is that they would operate the same way the Indian Navy’s MARCOS special ops do. Their main duty would probably be to infiltrate enemy shores to conduct reconnaissance and prepare an amphibious force for where and how to land on enemy territory. (Think of it like a military pre-inspection team coming before the main inspection team). They would also support army amphibious units and conduct naval special operations when needed.

Now about the concern for the navy occupying itself with land warfare, In the past few years, West Africa has experienced a number of attempted and successful coups. Ecomog has to take action at some point and quell the trend of military displacement of democratic governments as per the ECOWAS treaty. Nigeria’s contribution to Ecomog’s forces will be the most crucial being that it is the regional power. So if a decision is made that ecomog forces would intervene in a country with a hostile situation, the Nigerian Navy Marines unit will help operations run smooth and easy and according to plan especially if it’s a coastal country.

And about the part where the special operations command is based in Benue state, the Nigerian Navy chose to establish presence there to train some of its personnel on land warfare to support other sister security agencies in security operations. Which makes sense because the Joint Task Force encompasses personnel of different security agencies to engage in land operations against insurgents and bandits, regardless of specialty. And I think the defence headquarters also wanted to ensure the security of Benue state. You can check the link below.

This post caught my attention. The recent trend of the Nigerian Airforce and Navy acquiring AW-109 helicopters with VIP transport-esque interior cabins. Is this a cause for concern about management of funds or the higher ups are improving in the department of personnel welfare.?? Are they really bought to transport high ranking officers and their wives or is it to create a comfortable environment for helo-borne teams.

Bidexiii, do you happen to know if the NA’s Aviation Squadron and its UH-1 Huey helicopters only transport high ranking officials or they also deliver utilities to FOBs or they are still in the planning stage to make them do so.

Exnavyboy62:
Republic of Korea Navy Jang Bogo class submarine.

I’m hoping the Navy did not spend money on the Chamsuri class patrol vessel but rather received it as a donation. These class of ships is older than or in the same age range as the NNS Aradu. And it also has a tragic history (Search Chamsuri 357).
The vessel was donated , everywhere good 😮‍💨
