Don’t you think the oryx helos deserve replacement as at this period. It’s been in active service for 40 years plus.
I’ve been thinking maybe second hand Mil Mi 17s with life extension upgrades from India. It should be an easy buy since both S.A and India have strong diplomatic ties. Maintenance won’t be a problem, Denel Aviation can take care of that. And if fortunate enough, the SAAF can acquire a Mil Mi 17 variant that can serve as both a troop carrier and combat gunship. There won’t be concerns about the platform being shot at with anti-air guns when deployed in Mozambique, cause the Mil Mi 17 has the means to fight back and repel.
I know I’m not Armscor, I just have a bad habit of fantasizing about weapons a lot. But what do you think

NIGERIAN ARMY INTELLIGENCE SCHOOL STUDENTS EMBARK ON STUDY TOUR TO HEADQUARTERS WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND... Gain Insight on Naval Operations

In a bid to enhance the academic and professional competence of its students, the Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS) has embarked on a local study tour to the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command (WNC) and the Joint Task Force South West Operation AWATSE. The tour was aimed to familiarize students with the critical role of the WNC and OP AWATSE in ensuring security in the South Western region of Nigeria, and to underscore the importance of inter-service collaboration.

The delegation, led by the Acting Commandant of NAIS, Brigadier General Kingsley Nwoko, comprised students from various courses including the Young Officers Course, Counter Intelligence Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Courses, Operative Intelligence Course, and Intermediate Intelligence Operative Course.

Upon arrival, the team was warmly received by the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral MB Hassan and briefed. The brief covered the history, activities, force structure, achievements and challenges of the operation, with a particular focus on intelligence operations. This was followed by a tour of key naval assets, including the NNS KADA, NNS EKUN, NNS CALABAR, and the Falcon Eye facility, providing students with a firsthand understanding of naval operations.

Rear Admiral Hassan expressed his pleasure in hosting the NAIS personnel, emphasizing the importance of such interactions in strengthening the collaboration within the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He highlighted the mutual benefits of sharing knowledge and operational experiences between the Army and Navy.

Brigadier General Nwoko, in his remarks, underscored the academic significance of the tour, noting that it aligns with the Chief of Army Staff's Command Philosophy. He emphasized that the tour is crucial for improving students' understanding of inter-service synergy and the effectiveness of military operations through actionable intelligence.

The initiative marks a significant step in fostering a comprehensive understanding of joint military operations among future intelligence officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute to the nation's security landscape.

What conventional capabilities do you think the Nigerian Navy should invest in?

I think USV (unmanned surface vessels), Coverttes / small missile armed ships and an additional LST.

I don't see any need for Frigates.
The navy needs frigates. At least one that is big enough to serve as a flagship. I always have everyday fantasies of what the Nigerian navy should have ranging from frigates to corvettes to submarines to Amphibious Assault ships and so on and so forth. But whenever I remember the navy has a short term, mid term and long term plan that it is abidding by, my mood just gets disrupted.

2. Who took Berlin ? Was it the "allies" ? Or was it the soviet union?
3. If the soviet union was so ridiculously bad at warfare then why the need for NATO alliance ?
4. If Russia is so useless at warfare then why is the need for NATO ?
5. Are you sure you are not one of those drunks on top of an APC ?
6. How many nations are supporting Ukraine ? Isn't it like 50 nations ? (Including the USA, Germany ...) Are they not emptying their armouries ? Isn't the USA running out of ammunition ?
7. Basically you don't understand the strategy of the Russian armed forces, for further research, it is called strategy of attrition, it is slow, but it is working. This is not a Hollywood Rambo movie ! This is a real war.
8. If Germany was being pounded in the western front, then the Germans must have been sadomasochistic since it is in that same western front that the Germans were spending their holidays when they were too tired from fighting against the Russians. Also when a German soldier was being punished, the most feared punishment was to send him to the eastern front.

Hollywood turned your brain upside down, you are now permanently drunk without the need to drink alcohol. History is not learnt in rambo movies. But since you are a Nigerian I understand that you actually don't even understand the very concept of history.

Non of us here know more than the those making accusations of military hardware for Nigeria military but i keep asking my self why we always go for AW 109 instead of MI 17 ish for Airforce and AW 149 for the Navy, please someone educate me.
You mean acquisition instead of accusation…??

Possible reasons…
Cost effectiveness in terms of purchase, operating and maintenance

Familiarity with Leonardo/Agustawestland choppers for a long period of time. Switching to another helicopter type and learning its dos and don’ts may not be easy.

Interoperability. The navy and airforce can share info about the respective Leonardo helos they operate and in a case where there are similar computer systems or internal and external components in both helos, transplant is possible.

The letter stated that the US and France are lobbying Nigeria and other Gulf of Guinea nations for defence agreements to station troops previously in Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Niger Republic. The northern leaders are worried that Nigeria might agree to this defence pact and jeopardise its defence and security.

The idea of it been outdated is a joke on you, have u ever heard of the word upgrades,The Abrams MBT was produced in the 1980,s just like this airframe produced in the 1970s and the Abrams is still in use in Ukraine as i type this, the reason it is been decommissioned is because it is been replaced by the F-35 Lightning multirole jets, the cost of maintenace is low perhaps lower than the super Tucano at just 20kUSD per flight hour,it is clearly stated in my prior statement that is would be a game changer in counter insurgency operations, never said its multi purpose....(or do insurgents in Nigeria now have superior airpower?)if it is to be decommisioned then the US would be willing to sell a few to willing nations of course,in the case on Nigeria,we have genocidal cases against the military however with some diplomatic intervention we should be able to get it.
Yeah, right, whatever. The Nigerian Airforce will not be getting the A-10 Warthogs whether you cry about it or not. Why I said it shouldn’t be purchased because it’s not multipurpose…?? Did you give thought to long term use of procured platforms...?? This is 2024, literally anything can happen.
Nigeria is almost surrounded by foreign military bases of major powers. Take for instance the installation of S-300 air defence systems in Niger. Who knows why they are there…?? But let’s assume the Nigerien military government employed the help of Russian forces or Wagner PMC to protect the government from being overthrown, If we had the A-10 Warthogs, and the president decides to proceed with the ECOWAS intervention against military rule in Niger, how are the pilots supposed to protect themselves from incoming air defence missiles…??
Speaking of outdated, if upgrades can keep a 1980s aircraft fit, why then is the US military replacing them. They could have continued with upgrades and kept on flying them. It’s as if you are saying, Nigerian Airforce should keep on flying its alpha jet fleet. As long as they get upgrades, they are good to go. In 2024, dey play.
And what was it you were saying about genocidal cases in the Nigerian military…?? You think the US cares about Nigerian military casualties…?? The same US that has been delaying the delivery of the AH-1Z attack helicopters despite the pleas from Nigerian officials that it is required urgently…??
If the US didn’t sell the A-10 Warthogs to some of their allies who were interested in buying especially NATO allies, you think they will sell it to us…??
Even if they sell it to us, they will still dictate how it is used. 24x M346FA jets and 12 A-29 Super Tucanos, Insha Allah no breathing space for insurgents.

This would be a game changer if the Nigeria Air Force can acquire a couple of this platforms especially in the fight against insurgents
Nope, the Nigerian airforce doesn’t need this. it’s outdated, it is not multipurpose, it can only carry out ground attacks. Cost of maintenance is expensive. There will be a lot of restrictions on when, where and how the Nigerian Airforce can use it if purchased.
24 M346-FA jets will be delivered to the airforce soon, they can make do with that and the Tucanos on ground. Even the US is not willing to sell them

The press should also make sure to convert it and the soldiers killed given a national burial in Abuja with presidential scholarship to the children of the KIA...!!

What is good for the goose is equally good for the gander atleast...!!
Bruhhh that is just too extreme, the suggestion you’ve made. The army going there with a vengeful mindset will not change anything. Rather it might even make people hate the army the more if they go after innocents. I may not be in the position to say how the army should respond to issues like this cause it has to do with loss of personnel life but there is something called non kinetic approach to security.

The AH-1Z is a significantly better aircraft than the MI-35M.

As it is, what we need now is to follow up this purchase with at least a squadron of F-16V fighter jets.

24x M346FAs, 12x JF-17 block 3s. We are good to go for the moment. Then maybe during the 2030s we can shift focus on semi stealth and stealth aircraft’s. The world is changing you know.

Why ?

Or his because of the sexy T129 ATAK.
Everything about the deal, I don’t like it

270 million dollars for T-129 Atak
500 million dollars for 12x multiple purpose A-29 super tucanos. Meanwhile 997million dollars(approximately a billion dollars) for 12 AH-1z attack helicopters without missiles. WE HAVE BEEN SCAAAAMMEED.

T-129 atak - ordered in 2021, first two delivered in 2024.
AH-1Z - ordered since 2018, still waiting for fire alarm before being delivered. American senators are busy using us to play chess.

Türkiye delivers the helicopters, no stress, no poke nosing, meanwhile Murica will tell us when to use it and how to use it. Go against their so called rules, BOOM!!! SANCTIONS!!!

Honestly whomever was the chief of air staff when this b.s deal was approved deserves serious beating and 6 o clock hanging for 24 hours, no dropping.
