The Ukrainian/Russian war has been demonstrating the superiority of Western weapons and military tactics.

This is a shot down KA-52 Alligator wheel turned a wheelbarrow grin

Well you can't expect less, Russia is fighting UkraiNATO (over 30 Western countries indirectly).
But saying Western military tactics is superior, I don't think so. For over 10 months now, Russia has been resisting the UkraiNATO forces while been able to hold onto the Donbass region.
Russia is making the West think twice about it's moves and what next is Russia's move

At the first 3 months of the war, Russia had captured about 30% of Ukrainan territory, 7 months later, they no longer hold some of the regions.
The media claims that the UkraiNATO forces liberated them, while Russia says it pulled out (strategically) of some of the regions. We just have to take whatever they say as half truth, when the war is over, we will separate facts from fallacy.

Now as of present, just recently the Russian troops pulled out of "some part" of Kherson. The UkraiNATO forces used the opportunity to occupy the empty region while bragging and claiming that they chased out the Russian forces.
3 days later and the Russian forces started raining missiles on the UkraiNATO occupied part of Kherson.
That comedian, Mr Zelensky was sooo confused that he even fired a missile into Poland and blamed it on Russia with the intention of making NATO invoke their article 5 but as usual, NATO(No Action, Talk Only) dodged the bullet.

Asi it stands now, Russia is definitely going to use winter as a bitter ally against Ukraine. Their power grids and energy infrastructures are targeted on a daily basis, Ukraine is in lack of basic amenities (electricity, water, shelters) which indicates that Russia is going to overrun Ukraine while it freezes to death. This was the same tactic that was used against the Germans by the Soviets in WW2. Russia has announced another mobilization of conscripts to make this possible.
Meanwhile that comedian of a president is in a bunker asking for more weapons.
Infact they should give him Captain America and the Avengers since the Western air defence systems are incompetent enough not to intercept the Shahed 136 kamikaze drones

Despite all the Sanctions, weapons aid to Ukraine, media propaganda, Russia is still kicking.

the US already has a similar ship in service... But they ain't great... Just like the zumwalt to complicated, to expensive and to hard to maintain.

Not saying the one in the video isn't good though

There is an occurring evolution of ship designs in the ship building industry. The traditional arrowhead ship design may no longer be used in construcing vessels in the nearest future.

The Zumwalt class destroyers with the tumblehome design is to reduce radar detection of the ship and for it to pierce through sea waves. The ship's design has been adopted for the planned Korean KDX IV vessel.

The Sea Axe hull design that is also meant to make the ship pierce through waves has already been in service with several navies that operate Damen Shipyards made vessels and recently the French Naval Group launched the first of 9 FDI frigates that has the same ship design

Does anyone think African shipbuilding Industries should quickly adapt to the already occuring changes in ship designs??

CMN delivers Ocean Eagle patrol boat to Angola

French shipyard Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN) has delivered an Ocean Eagle 43 trimaran patrol boat to the Angolan Navy, some years after supplying three HSI 32 patrol craft as part of a 495 million euro deal.

CMN announced the delivery last week, noting that the Ocean Eagle 43 is an advanced patrol trimaran designed for long-range surveillance missions, including search and rescue, monitoring of the marine environment, surveillance of exclusive economic and fishing zones, and more.

Mer et Marine reports the vessel was handed over on 19 November in Toulon, where the vessel had concluded its sea trials. It was built at the iXblue shipyard in La Ciotat, to which CMN subcontracts the hull manufacture. The vessel was outfitted by iXblue, with the assistance of CMN.

The vessel is the first of three Ocean Eagles ordered by Angola, Mer et Marine reports. These are being acquired under a 495 million euro deal signed in 2016 with United Arab Emirates-based Privinvest, which at the time announced it would establish a shipyard in Angola and supply several naval vessels. Privinvest has facilities and shipyards in a number of countries including France (CMN), Germany (German Naval Yards Kiel) and the Middle East.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the 2016 deal included three HSI 32 patrol craft, which were delivered in 2019, and a long range offshore patrol vessel and a short range patrol vessel from France.

Angola has been expanding its small navy in recent times and in December 2015 ordered new equipment from Italy, including two patrol boats, radars and six helicopters (four AW139s and two A109Ks). The 7.3 million euro patrol boat order was placed with Whitehead Sistemi Subacquei, part of Finmeccanica (Leonardo).

Recent Angolan Navy deliveries include four Super Dvora Mk III patrol craft, which were ordered from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in 2015 and delivered in 2016. A Cessna Citation jet was delivered in 2017 after being modified to maritime patrol configuration in Israel (this included fitment of a Seaspray radar). In 2018 Angola ordered three C295 aircraft from Spain – two will be specifically equipped for maritime surveillance and one for transport missions.

The Ocean Eagle is also in service with Mozambique, which in September 2013 signed a controversial 200 million euro deal with CMN to build three Ocean Eagle 43s, three HSI 32 interceptors and 24 fishing vessels over a two year period.

So about a month ago, I saw this video on how future surface combat vessels might look like. There are some similar features to the design of the Ocean Eagle Patrol boat delivered to the Angolan Navy.
The ship's design looks odd and weird.......like spaceships.

if Nigeria can buy 50 units then Denel would be able to, but under that amount it isn't economically viable for Denel

Yeah right, local patronage by other African countries is a major factor but the SANDF should be first to place orders and have the highest number of units.

The US Army had the highest number of Apaches before export. The Russian Airforce had the highest number of Mil Mi 35s before export.
Same goes for Turkey and T-129 Atak.

The SANDF has to prove that Denel has a high production rate turnout by ordering for as many units as possible and they should constantly use it in exercises and the real battlefield to prove its effectiveness over and over again.

I just heard the South African Navy chief side of the story. True, true wetin Mr Ramaphosa do no good at all ooo.
How can the SANDF ask Mr Ramaphosa for "Minister of Defence" but he gave them "Minister of Refreshment". Now the Ms Modise has already used 75% of the defence budget to fly to Russia to cheers and drink wine and also to buy make up kits and clothes.
Now the meagre leftover funds for the SANDF can only cover for; 1MMIPV per year for the S.A Navy, maintenance of 5 Atlas oryx Helicopter per year for the Air Force and upgrades of 10 Ratel IFV per year for the Army.

Moral lesson : Don't put a woman as your Defence Minister next time especially when she has no military experience.

SDB 4 & 5 are not going as planned as they are behind schedule. Both projects should have come on stream by now, I believe they informed the President they would be completed in 12 months. That's not the case any longer.

Well, while you have a point, there's nothing revolutionary in small boat/vessel design. I don't see what the Navy would gain from a system they are already very proficient in building.

Also we have had NNS Sagbama in service for nearly 10 years now, it's a sister ship to this vessel that was donated to Nigeria.

Ohh yeah you are right about that. I remember the CNS saying something about the SDBs being ready in 12months time but it truly doesn't seem like it. We are likely going to see them get commissioned alongside one of the Dearsan OPV 76 vessels in 2025 I guess

And speaking of projects not going as planned, does anyone know anything about the Ichkou UCAV?? Since 2017, it's been 5 years and no drone yet.
NASENI is also taking it's time to give us first locally made helicopter.
The Army and NASRDA haven't shown anything on the "Comot for Road missile" yet.
We are still managing the 30.1mm rockets by the airforce for base defence. It all comes down to the blame on lack of funds but I can't help but think that lack of technical know-how is also responsible.

We can't expect to have a thriving defence industry with this kind of delays and low turnout in weapons production. Since the 1960s, our defence industry still seems like it's in it's infant stages. The !nd!ans have been manufacturing since the British partition in 1947 and they've really gotten far, though the Russians helped them in tech transfer and technical know-how.

Faithful007:
The real dogfighting has almost faded away. Why it was called dogfighting in the firstplace was because of how the two jets shadowed each other with aerobatics. What occurs now is more of witchhunting than dogfighting.

I'll give two reasons why dogfighting is dead. Modern jets like the F35 are slow and not maneuverable. The F22 will be retired sooner as well. Secondly I believe you have noticed in recent times how unfriendly nations often fly their aircraft close to each other's airspace in other to get intercepted. Only those outside Air force knowledge think they're trying to provoke a war. It is far from that. Actually it is more of a game. Both nations do those things to find out how quickly they can intercept or both intercepted. It is a way of testing readiness and evaluating the performance of their fighters against enemy aircraft.

Now why the emphasis on detection/interception? It is currently believed that when two powerful airforces fight, the key to aircraft survival lies in who first detects another and fires his weapon. This is known as BVR warfare.

I just remembered another reason. Cannons are heavily used in dogfighting. But currently they are being phased out. The F35's gun is detachable and is rarely mounted. The Chinese J-20 carries no gun at all. What do you think?

The battlefield of the future will be decided by Technology, Integrated warfare and logistics.

I agree with you and you do have a point about the changing dynamics of air warfare.
Air forces of other parts of the world are drifting to stealth tech aircrafts. Stealth aircrafts might be costly and unnecessary for African air forces considering, unit costs, maintenance and the adversary they want to use it against but getting an aircraft with BVR capabilities is just ok if you ask me.

Egypt already has Rafale F3er and they can be upgraded to Rafale F-4 semi-stealth standard
Algeria is most likely going to receive the Su-57E
Morocco has the latest F16Vs and reports have are flying about that they are in talks with Israel to help them convince the US to sell F-35s to them
I don't know about the South Africa maybe they may want to patronise India for the HAL Tejas mk 1A with BVR capabilities because it's a fellow BRICS member or they will upgrade it's Gripens fleet to Gripen E /Gripen NG

In my opinion though, not sure it's going to happen, I think Nigeria should purchase the FA-50 Golden Eagle from South Korea since it has BVR capabilities and it is a multi-role aircraft that can carry out ground attacks and air interdictions and it costs 30 million dollars per unit compared to the JF-17 block 3 that is not a multi role aircraft

If things go as planned, the Seaward Defence Boats 4&5 will get commissioned by 2025. We could equip them with maybe a Turkish ASELSAN smash 30mm RCWS.

The Chinese donated patrol boat to Nigeria is the same length as the SDBs 4&5 under construction, 46metres. Maybe we could study some tech on the donated patrol boat and improve on it, and apply it on the SDBs 4 &5 just like the way the Chinese study Russian weaponry and make an improved version

The Ind... Defence Industry has really gone far and is matured enough to make a name for itself in the market, I wonder why they hardly receive orders for prominent defence assets. If South Africa can export it's Casper MRAPs, Seeker UAVs, Umkhonto SAMs and other defence equipments with a young defence industry then they with a solidified local defence industry should be exporting the likes of HAL Dhruv, HAL Rudra, Arjun MBT, Kalyani MRAP, Saryu OPVs, Car Nicoba patrol vessels just to mention a few.

Lurker4long, jl115 and y'all other Saffers should upload something about the SANDF na. This is an African military thread not Nigeria alone. You guys should upload a juicy development about the SANDF.

Has a solution been proffered to the budget crisis of the SANDF and are there preventive measures to stall any future re-occurence??

What's the latest development on the Rooivalk attack helicopter? I learnt Denel wants to work with defence companies of other countries like India and Nigeria for the development of a mk 2 version.

The Mwari AHRLAC? Will the SANDF still order it for future use against a Mozambique like situation in the SADC?

The SAAF Gripen aircraft fleet, any latest development about the upgrades it will receive? Any additional orders for second hand Gripens and or a future replacement.

The Puma helicopters are old enough for retirement. Any replacement yet?

The SAN frigates and submarines, their refittings, life extension programme and on board weapons upgrades??

Is there still hope for the Damen 1800 sea axe hull opv for the SAN?

In the recently concluded AAD show in South Africa, I caught a glimpse of the Badger IFV on display in a pic. Is Denel still hoping to revive the project

The Olifants MBT should be getting replaced. No orders yet for the Leopard 1, why?

The Rooikat, ZT3, Ratel and other Denel vehicles, how about their upgrades??

You guys should drop a pic at least

Ohh! Your trend is more important than the thousands of innocent people your military has been killing in South east?

First you claim that the military is afraid of terrorists and that they are targeting civilians instead, later you claimed again that the military and the terrorists are working together to destroy the South East. Can you imagine how STUP1D you sound.

You also claim that President Buhari is the commander and leader of the terrorists. But it is still this same you that uploaded something on the president's convoy being ambushed by terrorists and that the military did not respond to that but rather they go after civilians in the South East. Can you imagine how F00LISH you sound.

Meanwhile are you aware that the old man (Nnamdi Kanu) whose course and agenda you want to die for created Ebube Agu, a terrorist organization known for enforcing "Sit at home order" on innocent Easterners, killing security operatives especially soldiers from the military on order of their evil founder and just recently they were reported to have kidnapped a Governorship candidate for Ebonyi state on the orders of the present Governor of Ebonyi. The Ebube Agu group claimed that it was an arrest they carried out and that the reason why he was in their custody was because he was suspected of dealing in hard drugs. Since when did Ebube Agu start arresting people for hard drugs? Who permitted them to do so?

That same old man gave Ebube Agu weapons without permission from the Federal govt and was responsible for the Orlu Crisis in South East Nigeria but he fled the country to UK, from UK to Kenya and left you NUMBSKULLS to face the consequence in the South East.

Based on the now trending news of the US suspecting about a terrorist attack in Abuja, Nigeria. What do you guys think about it.

And I also learnt that the US also gave such warning to South Africa about a terrorist attack in Sandton.

I for one don't believe the US suspicions cause;

1) They couldn't even predict a terrorist attack of mass shooting in a school in California just recently this week. They also couldn't predict an attack on Kuje correctional centre, Presidential guards brigade and on the presidential convoy, but they "think" there will be a terrorist attack in the "Capital" of the country

2)South Africa was given the warning a day before Nigeria was given, the two economic powers of Africa. Desn't that call for suspicions of the US trying to destabilize Africa, instigate wars, sell their weapons, interfere in any country and loot their resources to their satisfaction just as they did to countries in the Middle East for Oil & Gas

The Saffers I've interacted with online say there has been no such attack in the country and they don't expect any so the US should not be taken seriously.

3) The embassy in Abuja was closed down. I can't help but have to think that they are tired of stamping visas for Nigerians to migrate to their country but they are not tired of corrupt leaders keeping and investing Nigerian public funds in their country. If they rejected the corrupt leaders keeping and investing such money in their country and they exposed them to us, we will be grateful and not rush into their country in our thousands.
