Concerns over nitrogen dioxide emissions have grown since Volkswagen was found in September 2015 to have cheated air pollution tests for 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide. In April 2017, Volkswagen was sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty to three felony counts and paid $4.3 billion in federal penalties. VW must buy back or fix 85 per cent of the vehicles involved by June 2019 or face higher payments for emissions.

'These vehicles are being stored on an interim basis and routinely maintained in a manner to ensure their long-term operability and quality, so that they may be returned to commerce or exported once U.S. regulators approve appropriate emissions modifications,' she said. While it was originally suggested Volkswagen may scrap the hundreds of thousands of cars for parts, it now appears that the manufacturer is hoping to return them to the market once they meet emissions guidelines. But it may be some time before stung customers rush out to buy another VW. In total, VW has agreed to spend more than $25 billion in the United States for claims from owners, environmental regulators, states and dealers and offered to buy back about 500,000 polluting U.S. vehicles. The buy backs will continue through the end of 2019.

Thousands of Reacquired Volkswagen and Audi cars sit in a desert graveyard near Victorville, California. Shocking images have emerged showing lines of cars stretching out as far as the eye can see in the Californian desert after Volkswagen was forced to buy back 350,000 cars for $7.4billion over the diesel scandal. The German automaker has been forced to get creative when it comes to responsibly storing the hundreds of thousands of vehicles they had to buy back. Storage lots include a shuttered suburban Detroit football stadium, a former Minnesota paper mill and the desert site near Victorville, California. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5562609/Shocking-images-VW-cars-dumped-Californian-desert.html

Over 70years ago, a farmer beheaded a chicken in Colorado, and it refused to die. Mike, as the bird became known, survived for 18 months and became famous. But how did he live without a head for so long, asks Chris Stokel-Walker. On 10 September 1945 Lloyd Olsen and his wife Clara were killing chickens, on their farm in Fruita, Colorado. Olsen would decapitate the birds, his wife would clean them up. But one of the 40 or 50 animals that went under Olsen's hatchet that day didn't behave like the rest. They got down to the end and had one who was still alive, up and walking around, says the couple's great-grandson. The chicken kicked and ran, and didn't stop. It was placed in an old apple box on the farm's screened porch for the night, and when Lloyd Olsen woke the following morning, he stepped outside to see what had happened. "The damn thing was still alive," says Waters.

The headless chicken that found internet fame for surviving more than a week after being decapitated has now been adopted by monks. Earlier this week the headless chicken made headlines around the world as it survived a beheading and was looked after by a kindly vet. The remarkable bird was found in the Mueang Ratchaburi district of Ratchaburi Province in central, Thailand. Now a new video of the amazing creature is going viral, showing monks caring for it by feeding it through a syringe. She said at the time: 'The animal has its life. If it wants to live, we feed it. 'Very occasionally, chickens survive being beheaded because of an unusual quirk of their anatomy. The birds' brains are in their skulls at an angle, so the rear portion that controls automatic functions such as breathing can be left intact if the chicken is beheaded too high up the neck. The vet who looked after the chicken called it 'a true warrior'. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5556351/Headless-chicken-survives-WEEK-decapitated.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

And his father claimed to news5cleveland that he first raised concerns with police as early as 2012 when his son was a freshman, but Cross was punished. He said of Cross, who resigned from her teaching position in January 2015: 'First of all, she's a schoolteacher. To get aroused by a child basically you have to be a sick individual.' She is due to be sentenced by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O'Brien on May 24.

Female teacher, 37, admits to having her student's BABY after becoming his foster mother following a sexual relationship starting 'when he was 14' *Laura Lynn Cross, 37, of Tallmadge, Ohio, started grooming child in eighth grade *The English teacher began by inviting the student to play in her swimming pool *Convinced mother to let him move in as part of a 'partial custody' arrangement *Pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery and will be sentenced May 24 A teacher has pleaded guilty to having her underage student's baby after spending three years grooming the student and becoming his foster mother. Laura Lynn Cross, 37, of Tallmadge, Ohio, started grooming the child when he was in eighth grade, when students are between the ages of 13 and 14. Cross, English teacher at Buchtel High School, pleaded guilty on Friday to three counts of sexual battery. She began by inviting the student to play in her swimming pool before convincing his mother to let him move in as part of a court-approved 'partial parental custody' arrangement. Cross was arrested earlier this month after police learned she had given birth to the boy's baby. The teenager's mother complained the police about the affair and contacted prosecutors in Tallmadge. Under pressure to get rid of the painting after realizing he hadn't been bidding against his rival Qatar, Salman struck a deal with his Emirati counterpart to swap the painting for a superyacht called The Topaz, pictured below. Lalasticlala, Mynd44

De-facto United Arab Emirates ruler Mohammed Zayed had sent a representative to bid in an attempt to secure it for the $1 billion Louvre Abu Dhabi museum.

The painting's buyer was revealed to be Saudi Prince Bader bin Abdullah. Palace insiders said the purchase was on behalf of his close friend, the country's crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman

Two Arab princes accidentally cost themselves $450 million in an anonymous bidding war over a Da Vinci painting because each thought the other was their rival Qatar, according to palace sources. Leonardo Da Vinci's 'Salvator Mundi' sold at an auction last November for an eye-watering $450.3 million. Documents leaked to the New York Times the following month revealed the buyer was Saudi Prince Bader bin Abdullah. Palace insiders said the purchase was on behalf of his close friend, the country's crown prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The de-facto United Arab Emirates ruler Mohammed Bin Zayed also sent a representative to bid on the painting at the Christie's New York auction, in an attempt to secure it for the $1 billion Louvre Abu Dhabi museum, th But neither Arab ruler knew the other was bidding, instead they both feared losing the auction to reps from the Qatari ruling family. 'The bidding started to get high, and each of them thought they were bidding against the Qataris, and didn't want them to get it,' said one source close to the Emirati leader. 'So they gave their proxies instructions, saying 'you can go as high as you want, just make sure you get it'. 'It got to $450 million and the Emiratis gave up. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5554969/Two-Arab-princes-cost-450MILLION-bidding-war-Da-Vincis-Salvator-Mundi.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Completion dates for the city, also known as the Songdo International Business District, have been used loosely. It was meant to be fully functional by 2015, then 2018, and now it's 2022. The buildings, hospitals, schools, streets, footpaths and cycle lanes are strangely empty for such a large city and there's no presence of culture.

The brainchild of property developers and the South Korean government, the vision was to construct a new way of thinking for over 300,000 residents, spread out over 600 hectares of reclaimed land from the Yellow Sea. But the £28 billion ($40 billion) project, launched in 2002, has struggled to bring in big companies and investors despite hosting South Korea's tallest skyscraper.

An abandoned subway station. Computers were built into its streets (pictured) and condos to control traffic and let neighbours hold video chats. The city was supposed to kick-start a car-free world, with 40 per cent green space and dozens of kilometres of cycling routes (pictured). The city is dominated by a rectangular green space surrounded by cutting edge skyscrapers

A £28 billion ($40 billion) project hailed as the world'sfirst smart city has faded into a 'Chernobyl-like ghost town'. The 'high-tech utopia' of Songdo on South Korea's northeast coast was built from scratch and designed around technology, with computers built into its streets and condos to control traffic and let neighbours hold video chats. Residents were promised a city of the future, with remote-controlled front doors and pneumatic rubbishchutes that 'sucked' garbage from your home to later be recycled to generate electricity. But eerie photos show that, just over 15 years since the Songdo project began, the city is still less than half-built, with one citizen remarking it's like 'living in a deserted prison'. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5553001/28-billion-project-dubbed-worlds-Smart-City-turned-Chernobyl-like-ghost-town.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

A rare Porsche has been listed for sale for less than $6,000 in the San Francisco Bay area, but you could say the coveted 1956 model 356A needs some work as it's missing more than a few extras, like wheels, doors, seats and something to hold it all together. The buyer won't get any help putting the pieces back together, either. It's provably authentic, with its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)plate intact. 'Do NOT have any extra parts that go with it,' the seller wrote in the listing. 'What you see is what you get.' https://www.google.com.ng/amp/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5541841/amp/Rusty-carcass-1950s-Porsche-sale-Craigslist-6K.html

Images reveal that the foundations have been laid for the structure along with central support pillars but there is still a bit of work to do before it takes on the form of the late political and social leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whom it will honour. Millions of tons of cement and steel have been shuttled to the site and recycled iron was used for the statue's foundation. Along with a visitor's centre, the Statue of Unity will have a viewing gallery at 501 feet, which can accommodate up to 200 visitors at a time. It will offerexpansive views of the surrounding area. Adjacent to the attraction will be a three-star 128-room hotel, with restaurant and conference facilities. Some people have criticised the Statue of Unity project for being a waste of money. Vishal Shah wrote on YouTube in response to a promotional video: 'This is a ridiculous project, what would we achieve from it?'

Incredible photos reveal the progress being made on what is set to be the world's highest statue. The £226.9million Statue of Unity in western India will be 597 feet tall when it's finished in October that's almost twice the height of the Statue of Liberty and nearly 100 feet higher than the current record holder, China's Spring Temple Buddha. It's being built on Sadhu Island in the state of Gujarat, with the waters of the Narmada river surrounding it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-5532395/Incredible-photos-reveal-worlds-tallest-statue-taking-shape.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44
