I was hoping to see the process involved in getting a license to own a gun in Nigeria as a civilian. undecided
This is Nigeria all the process stuff is crap. It's easier when you know some one in the police force, that you can pay to guide you. Though you still have to meet the being a responsible citizen criteria.
Presently I think it's more difficult but its not something that is not achieveable

Extremefiles, Are you an ex security personnel or you are still in service?

It is very hard for most civilians to get license for firearms?
This is Nigeria knowing the right people and being ready to pay money goes a long way. Atleast it did, don't know about now though

You can have the link available but it's advisable to get the license first.

So with your licence, can you own a Glock pistol?
And what type of weapons are you restricted to?
concealables are illegal. Civilians are not allowed to own pistols so no I can't own a pistol with my license

I have seen a lot of big men with pump action rifles especially at funerals and I would ask myself 'do these people have licences for these guns ?'. Individuals shouldn't be allowed to own pump action guns.
It's risky showcasing guns in public in Nigeria without having a licence even with a licence it's not advisable. So Im guessing they will have a licence

The Benelli M4 is a very nice weapon! Lovely!

Could you say your process of getting the license? What are the restrictions of the license? Does your link still have those for sale?
I mostly paid for everything. What I did in my part was to fill forms and provide some health related documents which I'm not sure was important. And I had to wait. Took time but it was worth it I guess. As per my link. I don't know what he has in stock.

Getting my license was the easiest part. Please do not be confused with my first sentence. When I say easiest part I meant it was easier than getting the firearm itself. Took me several months to actually get proper documentation. After getting my license I realized there was virtually no shop you could just walk into with your license to purchase a gun. After months of inquiries, and countless offer of old rusted relics I was able to purchase a banelli m4 through a link from one of the police stations in Abuja.

The whole process took almost 10 months. This was a few years ago. I don't know how hard/possible it is to get a licence now. Guns yes i know because still use the link for maintenance. Due to not having no option in terms of repairs and servicing. Gun ownership and maintenance is a bit on the high side.

Other licensed gun owners what's your experience
