Angry youths go on rampage as truck crushes six women to death in Maiduguri

Angry youths went on a rampage after six women were crushed to death by a tipper truck along the Gubio road, the outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno State.




The incident occurred around 10:05 am on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Kaswan Fara, Shagari Lowcost Estate area when the tipper truck conveying sharp sand suffered brake failure.

An eyewitness, Kola Fatai, told Daily Trust that the truck rammed into a pickup conveying the women to the farm, killing at least 6 of them.

A resident, Iman Buba, said that two tippers (trucks) have been set ablaze by irritated youths, as police tried to calm the situation.




The road leading to Gubio from Maiduguri has been barricaded by protesters.

Another eyewitness said the truck which caused the road mishap was attempting to overtake another tipper, but lost control and crashed into the pickup carrying the women.

Security agencies were deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control.

FEC unveils revised emergency response policy for bird flu

The Federal Government has unveiled a revised emergency response policy to tackle diseases associated with livestock, particularly bird flu.

Eyes Of Lagos reports gathered that, The decision which was taken at the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, had cabinet members drawing experiences from avian influenza that hit the country in 2006 and how best to tackle emerging challenges in the livestock industry.

FEC after deliberation adopted a motion for the unveiling of a Comprehensive Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan for the livestock industry.

Minister of Agriculture, Mohammed Abubakar while briefing State House Correspondents on what transpired at the meeting, recalled how the country lost over 1.2 million birds as a result of the bird flu which struck the country in 2006.

In his words: “The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development [today] presented a memo on the Revised Comprehensive Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan for the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Nigeria, (the Animal Component). This is a highly pathogenic viral infection that is so contagious and Zoonotic, meaning it can go from animals to humans and can cause death and can cause sickness. So the previous policy was put together by experts back in 2005, in order to contain, quickly, any kind of outbreak of bird flu. But the sector has grown so much with the additional importation of maybe new and exotic birds.”

Abubakar said over the years, the livestock industry has grown to a population of over 165 million birds, averaging N1.6trillion in revenue and 70 per cent of the rural dwellers dominating the industry.

“Therefore, the need to revise this policy and produce a new one that will conform with the current happenings in the industry. That is why this new policy is being put forward by the ministry and it’s the same, I mean, it’s called the Comprehensive Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan to contain any future occurrence,” he stated.

According to him: “The addition to this new policy, also, is the establishment of centres that will cater for issues of compensation to poultry farmers in the country. This is basically what the new policy is all about and has just been approved by the Federal Executive Council.”

The objective, he said “is to make sure we have a robust preparedness plan.”

Travelers from Abuja, Lagos should avoid Ekiti – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued an advisory to travelers from Abuja and Lagos.

Acting Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu informed the public on Tuesday through the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Bisi Kazeem.

Alleged domestic violence: Popular Lagos businessman, IVD’s wife, Bimbo is dead

Bimbo, the wife of popular car dealer, Ikechukwu Ogbonna, better known as IVD, has died. Her sister confirmed her passing on social media some hours ago.

Bimbo was rushed to the hospital sometime this week after suffering severe burns during a violent incident at their residence in Megamound estate, Lekki, Lagos. Sources claimed Bimbo confronted her husband IVD on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, over the constant beatings she received, and a fight ensued.

The fight resulted in their house being set ablaze. IVD was said to have escaped with minor burns while Bimbo suffered severe burns and was rushed to the intensive care unit. Sadly. she lost the battle to live.

Announcing Bimbo's passing on social media, her sister wrote;

Nnamdi Kanu: Appeal court ruling may affect Peter obi – Adamu Garba

An ex-presidential aspirant of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, and now a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adamu Garba, has reacted to the Appeal Court’s ruling on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Recall that the Appeal Court had discharged and acquitted Kanu of the terrorism charges levelled against him by the Nigerian government.

A three-judge panel of the appellate court ruled that Kanu was illegally extracted from Kenya by Nigerian agents in a process known internationally known as extraordinary rendition but which rights experts define as an abduction.

The judges held that the Nigerian government could not charge Kanu for any offence in the country until federal authorities explained how they moved him from Nairobi to Abuja in June 2022.

Reacting, Adamu on his Twitter page said the appeal court verdict will spell doom for the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

”By the way, I wonder what empirical evidence convinced the appeal court to discharge and acquit Nnamdi Kanu despite his obvious criminal activities.

China fines Kenya Ksh1.3B for defaulting on Standard Gauge Railway loans

A statement by the media aide to the Governor, Kelvin Ebiri, said the appointment takes immediate effect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has listed insecurity, thuggery and social media fake news as major threats to next year’s general elections.

The Commission’s Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu, made the disclosure at an event organized by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) at the NED Headquarters, Washington DC, USA.




On the concerns ahead of the poll, he said;




“ARE THERE CONCERNS ABOUT THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTION? I WILL BE THE LAST TO SAY THERE ARE NO CONCERNS. The traders forced me to ferry them - Sailor who ferried boat that capsized

The sailor of the boat that capsized at Umunankwo in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State over the weekend and led to the death of over 30 persons, has said that the deceased female traders forced him to embark on the ill-fated trip as they were desperate to dispose of their crops harvested prematurely due to this year’s flood that submerged their farms before the maturity of the planted crops.




In a chat with newsmen, Amaugo said his boat had 48 persons onboard.

Man hacks his mother to death in Ebonyi community

A 32-year-old man, Arinze Chukwu, hacked his mother to death with an axe in Ndieze community, Okpoto Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the suspect killed his 60-year-old mother after she reported him to the village youths to be reprimanded for his bad behaviours.

According to The Nation, the youths beat up the suspect and tied him up at the village square.

Upon his release by the youths, the suspect was said to have attacked his mother with an axe out of anger on September 17, 2022.

The aged father of the suspect, Anthony Chukwu, confirmed that his son killed his wife because she reported his misdeeds to the village youths.

Acting on the complaint of the deceased, Anthony said that the village youths caught Arinze, tied up his hands and feet, beat him up and then left him in the sun for hours at the village square.



“That boy (Arinze) is my eighth child from my wife whom he just killed. I was not at home at the time it happened but I know he killed my wife because she reported him to our village youth association. She did not hate him. She made a report to the association to stop his bad behaviour. At the village square, the youths punished him by tying his hands and feet and then beat him up. They later left him in the sun for hours to correct him.” the father narrated.

“When he was being dragged to the village square, he threatened to kill me and my wife for reporting him. Luckily for me, I was not at home when they released him. But he met my wife and killed her with an axe and fled. I never knew he was serious about the threat until I ame back and saw my wife in a pool of blood.”

The police on receipt of the complaint, promptly arrested Arinze. He was charged to court for murder last week.

The court turned down the plea of the defendant. The trial Magistrate, Blessing Ibeabuchi-Chukwu, ordered that Arinze be remanded at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre.



The case was adjourned till October 10, 2022.

As the police officers struggled to place the teen in handcuffs, the deputy punches him, then pushes his knee hard into the boy’s neck as onlookers screamed “He’s a f—king kid, y’all!”



The deputy then drags the teen who has seemingly gone limp across the asphalt with his face to the ground, before putting him in handcuff.


According to police, the teen was drunk and acting belligerent while waiting in line for a ride. Several people complained and police responded. The teen, who is white, began mouthing off and, according to cops, using racist language toward a black deputy. That’s when all the trouble began.

Tulsa County Sheriff’s Captain Mike Moore backed up the actions of his officers, reportedly saying “the deputies were required to use the force necessary” when the teen “continued to resist and continued to fight deputies.”


The Sheriff’s Office is now reviewing the matter.

Music star, Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, AKA Reekado Banks, has lost his mother.

Reekado made this known on his Instagram page.

Although he did not disclose the cause of her death, he called on Nigerians to put his family in their prayers.

She is survived by her husband, children, and siblings.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has adopted new guidelines to ensure the seamless conduct of next year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board revealed the new guidelines in the latest edition of the weekly bulletin of the office of the registrar on Monday.

JAMB introduced double fingerprints, where a candidate is expected to register at least two fingers.

The exam body said any finger may be used for biometric verification before entering the examination hall on the appointed date.

The board also said candidates with bad fingerprints would be scheduled for the exam as “exemption candidates.”

It warned that some cybercafes and tutorial centres had been prohibited from participating in UTME.

The board also introduced the CBT centre accreditation to vet centres based on whether or not they meet the board’s new requirements which include the use of laptop computer systems with a specified RAM capacity.



Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, also announced the introduction of biometric accreditation for CBT centre registration officers which he said will now be captured ahead of the exercise.

He said the board would consider separating UTME registration from that of Direct Entry (DE) starting from 2023.

According to Oloyede, the idea of the separation is to further consolidate its data collection efforts.

Earlier in the month, JAMB said it would no longer be conducting mop-up exercises for UTME candidates.

Mop-up exercise is usually held for candidates who could not participate in the UTME during the period of the exercise for some verified reasons.

JAMB said the move was to further strengthen the noose around examination malpractice.

Bandits abduct women in Abuja community

Three women have been abducted by bandits in Anguwar Tudun Fulani, Yangoji village, Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

The women identified as Hauwa Musa, Zainab Musa and Sa’adatu Adamu, were abducted on Sunday night, September 25.


Mai-Anguwa of Tudun Fulani, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, confirmed the abduction on Monday. He told Daily Trust the bandits came around 11pm and started shooting before abducting the three women.

It was gathered that the husbands of the abducted women had travelled out of the community when the incident happened.

The mai-anguwa who was reportedly disturbed, said the latest attack was the third in the area since January this year, adding that some of his kinsmen have been relocating from the community.

Nigerian NBA coach Ime Udoka faces disciplinary action for cheating on his wife, actress Nia Long with staff member

A team, Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is reportedly set to face serious disciplinary action for violating the franchise’s code of conduct according to new reports.

According to a Wednesday night , September 21 report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Udoka allegedly had an improper, intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff.


The 45-year-old Nigerian has been married to Hollywood actress Nia Long since 2010.

Nigerian NBA coach Ime Udoka faces disciplinary action for cheating on his wife, actress Nia Long with staff member



Udoka’s top assistant coach, Will Hardy, left to become coach of the Utah Jazz, and another Jazz finalist, Celtics assistant Joe Mazzulla, would likely be in serious consideration for an interim role, according to a report by ESPN.



Udoka joined the Celtics last summer after spending time with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach following his NBA playing career.Udoka replaced Brad Stevens as coach. Stevens moved upstairs to be Boston’s president of basketball operations after his predecessor in that job, Danny Ainge, chose to leave the organization.


In his first season as coach, Udoka oversaw a remarkable turnaround in Boston, one that saw the Celtics go from being under .500 in late January to closing the season with a 28-7 record over their final 35 games. They then performed an impressive run through the Eastern Conference playoffs, advancing to the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years.

Udoka is the fifth coach in the past 25 years to reach the NBA Finals in his first season as a head coach, and the first since Nick Nurse in 2019.

Mr. Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

This was announced by Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Wednesday September 21. The appointment is for a tenure of three years in the first instance.

Until his appointment, Mr. Dembos was the Executive Director, Marketing, of the NTA. His career as a media professional spans over 20 years.

He has served as General Manager of two NTA Stations, in Lokoja and Kano; and as Zonal Director, NTA, Kaduna, among other appointments.

A 31-year-old teacher, Idowu Daniel has been handed a seven year jail sentence by an Ikeja Special Offences Court, for sexually assaulting his 16-year-old student.

Ruling on the case on Monday September 19, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo said the prosecution failed to establish the charge of child defilement against the defendant. This was however because the survivor failed to show up in court during proceedings to testify.

Justice Taiwo who noted that the confessional statement by the defendant, which was made voluntarily, showed that he sexually assaulted the minor, added that the defendant admitted to handling the breast of the victim twice and attempted to have sex with her but he could not have a penetration because she was a virgin.

Taiwo said;



“The defendant is hereby convicted on the charge of sexual assault of a child.

“You are a teacher and you were touching the breast of your student. You would have gone for life if the victim had come to court to testify.”

Court dismisses PDP’s suit seeking disqualification of Tinubu and Peter Obi

Peoples Democratic Party’s lawsuit seeking the disqualification of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has been dismissed by a federal high court sitting in Abuja.

The PDP had in its lawsuit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1016/2022, challenged the legality of the substitution of running mates for the APC and the Labour Party.

The opposition party which claimed that the Electoral Act 2022 did not make provision for a “place holder” or temporary running mate, asked the court to declare that Tinubu and Obi be disqualified unless they contest alongside their previous running mates; Kabiru Masari and Doyin Okupe respectively.

In the lawsuit which has INEC, APC, Tinubu, Masari, Labour Party, Obi and Okupe as defendants, the PDP also asked the court to determine if “by the combined interpretation of Section 142(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sections 29(1), 31, 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, the first defendant (INEC) can validly accept any change or substitution of the 4th (Masari) and 7th (Okupe) defendants as running mates of the 3rd (APC) and 6th (Labour Party) defendants”.

Ruling on the case after respondents in the suit challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter, Justice Donatus Okorowo stated that the lawsuit is not within the court’s jurisdiction.

He went on to dismiss the case he said lacks merit and an abuse of court process.

A 21-year-old mechanic identified as Monday Nnime has been arrested by the police for allegedly stabbing his brother to death in Lagos.

He was apprehended by operatives attached to the Denton Police Division, Ebute Meta on September 7, following the death of John Okoh, 28.


Nnime was arrested for allegedly stabbing the deceased in the neck with a broken bottle during a scuffle over N1,500 at their workplace along Sam Freeman Road.

It was gathered that a customer had given Okoh N1,500 after working on his vehicle but the suspect wanted equal share from the sum.

Confirming the incident, Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said Okoh was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, for treatment but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

A Ghanaian woman identified as Hannah Owusu has revealed that she has been bald for three years after her husband’s alleged mistress identified as Ruth Amankwa pulled her cornrow during a fight.



Narrating her ordeal in a radio interview, Owusu revealed that her alleged rival, Ruth, attacked her and disgraced her before church leaders.

NCDC reports 24 new cases of monkeypox in one week

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 24 additional monkeypox cases in seven days from across 12 states in the country.

The NCDC reported the cases via its official website.

It stated that a total of 157 positive infections of monkeypox were confirmed between January 1 and July 31.

The initial cluster of cases was found in the United Kingdom, where the first case was detected on May 6, in an individual with travel links to Nigeria.

Recall that researchers are yet to discover why monkeypox seems to be propagating so readily and unconventionally in the current global outbreak.

The monkeypox virus spreads through direct contact with respiratory secretions such as mucus or saliva or skin in lesions.

Skin lesions appear soon after infection as a rash , small pimples or round papules on the face, hands or Instruments.

These lesions may also appear inside the mouth, eyes and other parts of the body that produce mucus.

They can last for several weeks and be a source of viruses before they are fully healed.

People usually develop symptoms five to 21 days after exposure to the virus and symptoms last for two to four weeks.

Abia, Adamawa, Bayelsa and Kwara have two each and Delta, Anambra, Gombe, Rivers, and Nasarawa, one each.

It said that four deaths had been recorded in four states, which are; Lagos, Delta, Ondo and Akwa Ibom.

According to NCDC, from January 1 to July 31, there have been 413 suspected cases and 157 confirmed cases, with 105 males and 52 females.

The agency said that these cases were from 26 states.

“From September 2017 to July 31, 2022, a total of 12 deaths had been recorded in nine states:

“Lagos ( three), Edo (two), Imo (one ), Cross River (one ), the FCT (one ), Rivers (one ), Ondo ( one ) Delta (one ) and Akwa Ibom (one),” it stated.

Meanwhile, unlike COVID-19, the monkeypox virus requires intimate, often skin-to-skin contact with an infected individual’s rashes, scabs, bodily fluids, or contaminated linens to spread.

With at least some known transmission routes, available diagnostic tests, and two vaccines on offer, monkeypox should have been easy to manage across the globe.

Cases among men who have sex with other men—are still rising at an alarming rate that the World Health Organisation (WHO), has now declared a public health emergency,

Since May, more than 80 countries where monkeypox was not endemic had reported nearly 28, 000 cases. including about 7, 500 in the U.S.

All states, except Montana and Wyoming had confirmed cases, but more than half were recorded in New York, California, Illinois, Florida, and Texas.

Among the cases with available data, 94 per cent were in men who reported recent sexual or close intimate contact with other men.

54 per cent of cases were among Black and Hispanic people, a group that represents about 34 per cent of the general US population.

The share of cases among black people has grown in recent weeks, according to the US Centre For CDC analysis.

Meanwhile, some Public Health experts have recommended practising safer sex and having fewer sexual partners, particularly anonymous partners, even when they do not have symptoms.

They warned against stigmatising anyone from the LGBTQ+ community, adding, ”whenever any kind of infection is linked with sexual transmission, it comes with a stigma.”

They said that monkeypox has not been considered a sexually transmitted infection, although it is transmitted through close sexual contact.

A woman said she landed in hospital and needed emergency surgery because she held in farts around her boyfriend for two years.



Cara Clarke, 19, was at work when she developed “extreme stomach pain” on Tuesday, March 29.



She was rushed to a hospital where she was diagnosed with appendicitis.

It turned out the condition can be triggered by blockages and pressure build-up. Cara believes her suppressed farts around her boyfriend and the subsequent pressure build-up is what led to her condition.



The barista, who has been with her 21-year-old boyfriend Kyle Duffy for two years, recalled he was “dying laughing” after finding her efforts not to fart in his presence left her needing surgery.

“I went to the doctor in hysterics and he referred me straight to the hospital. I was in so much pain I couldn’t hold in my tears.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested one Isah Hassan,17 and a 100-year-old woman for allegedly removing the right eyeball of a 12-year-old Almajiri boy for suspected charm purposes.

Spokesman of the state police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, March 30, said that the victim was found by the roadside without his right eyeball and with blood coming out of the hole.

“On the 20/03/2022 at about 1500hrs, a report was received from a resident of Sheka Dantsinke Quarters, Kumbotso LGA Kano, that an unknown person took one Mustapha Yunusa, ‘m’, 12 years old to Rimin Hamza Quarters, Tarauni LGA, Kano State, used a sharp knife and removed his right eyeball and fled with it to an unknown destination,” the PPRO stated.



“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by CSP Alfa N. Muhammad, Divisional Police Officer, Sheka Division to proceed to the scene

“The team immediately went to the scene and rushed the victim to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where a Medical Doctor confirmed that the eyeball of the victim was forcefully removed using a sharp object, and the victim was admitted to the said hospital.

“Sustained efforts coupled with prolonged intelligence follow-up led to the arrest of the principal suspect, one Isah Hassan, ‘m’, aged 17 years old, of Dantsinke layin Rimin Hamza Quarters Tarauni LGA, Kano State, with the help of local Vigilante of Sheka Quarters on the 29/03/2022 at about 0100hrs



“On investigation, the suspect confessed that he met his friend, Sani Abdulrahman, ‘m’, 16 years old, and asked him where he can get a charm that will make him be disappearing whenever he want. Sani directed him to his aged grandmother of 100 years old (as she claimed), one Furera Abubakar, ‘f’, of the same address.

“The principal suspect further confessed that he met Furera, and she instructed him to bring an eyeball of a human being to her so that he can prepare the charm for him. He went and deceived one street beggar (Almajiri), the victim, lured him to a nearby bush tied his hands and forcefully used a sharp knife and plucked his right eyeball.

“He took the eyeball to Furera and she told him to bring Five Hundred Naira (N500:00). As he did not have the money, Furera told him to keep it in a safer place and bring it when he get the money. He kept it for three days, later he discovered that the eyeball has decayed, and he then threw it away. Furera was subsequently arrested.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered that case has been transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation

“CP Dikko warns that criminals will have no hiding place in Kano State. They are advised to either repent or leave the State completely, as no stone will be left unturned. Otherwise, they will be arrested and face the full wrath of the Law.
