Goods worth millions have been destroyed following an early morning fire that engulfed Katangowa Market in Agbado/Okeodo Local Council Development Area, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Monday, August 19.

The fire outbreak which started around 3.15am destroyed the entire stretch of fairly used clothes’ shops opposite the Central Mosque in the market.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that men of the state fire service and officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were on the ground to put the blaze under control.

Also on the ground are policemen from the Okeodo Divisional Headquarters to prevent the looting of unaffected shops.

Though no life has been reported lost, the immediate or remote cause of the fire outbreak was yet to be ascertained at press time.

This came barely 24 hours after a free-for-all broke out between some Hausa and Yoruba traders over a minor misunderstanding in the same area. Fortunately too, nobody died during the incident.

The Lagos State Police have arrested popular musician, Augustine Kelechi, aka Tekno for breaching public decency by displaying half-naked girls in traffic,

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that he was arrested on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, and was undergoing questioning at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba.

Tekno had sometime last week partook in a mobile advertisement that displayed half nude girls, who were dancing seductively in a transparent glass box on a truck around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.

In the truck, the musician was seen spraying the scantily dressed girls with money as they danced.

Following the public outcry it generated, the state government reacted swiftly suspended condemned the indecent and suspended the licence of the Advert agency, Pro-Vision Media Systems Limited.

In his defence, Tekno said he merely used the truck to convey his crew to a location for a shoot, which was not intended to breach public decency

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Spokesman, Bala Elkana, a deputy superintendent of police, said he was invited for questioning.

He said: “The command has arrested Tekno and the two girls for conveying half-naked girls at the Lekki area of Lagos.

“He is presently undergoing questioning at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti.”

The police said such acts of public indecency was against the criminal code and if after investigation those involved were found guilty, they would be charged to court.

source : https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/08/06/coalition-of-lawyers-ngo-fault-omoyele-sowores-arrest-detention/

The Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA) and the United Global Resolve for Peace (UGRFP) have faulted the arrest and detention of Mr Omoyele Sowore.

The groups, in separate statements issued on Monday in Abuja, described the detention of Sowore, the founder of SaharaReporters Group and Convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, as needless and ill-advised.

Eyes Of Lagos learnt that, The Convener of COPA, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the group had the right to congregate, protest and express their reservations about the Federal Government policies or its leadership direction.

“The objectives and the much publicised move by the group to protest via an organised peaceful march against state policies is a democratically recognised means of engagement with any elected government.

“The arrest of Sowore in the late hours of the night as a pre-emptive strike against an unfounded allegation of treason is a farcical move and one that ridicules the government and the security arm that carried out the arrest.

“COPA is shocked and disheartened over such a brazen attack on free speech and right to peaceful assembly.

“In fact, the arrest and continued detention of Sowore is an exhibition of brute force, a clampdown on constitutional liberty and a gradual descent into anarchy.

“It is way too soon to relive all over again the signature moves of military dictatorship; no country should ever have political thoughts and speeches policed by the state,” he said.

Olajengbesi said that COPA viewed the excuse given by the Federal Government over Sowore’s arrest as an insult to public intelligence and sensibility.

“The legal definition of treason is not dictated to by executive whims but by clearly laid down laws and state conventions.

“The arrest of Mr Sowore was reactionary and badly advised, thus leading to the flimsy premise given for it,” Olajengbesi said.

He urged the government to see revolution as changing of status quo, maintaining that organising a protest for revolution was never a call for anarchy but a demand for genuine change.

Also, Shalom Olaseni, Executive Director, UGRFP, said no society would truly be free if thoughts were regulated by their conformity or variance with government position.

Olaseni said that in as much as his group was not holding brief for any political movement or allowing political colorations to taint its positions on national issues, it was necessary for the rule of law to be respected.

According to him, all the agitations by aggrieved sympathisers or members of Sowore‘s #RevolutionNow movement must be tempered with common sense and accorded with disciplined action.

He said that dialogue, rather than violent action, was the modern world’s tool for reconciliation and the achievement of set goals.

“We are properly apprised of insinuations that the #RevolutionNow movement is unconstitutional and perhaps, treasonable. Let it be stated that such a claim is a tall one that cannot be addressed without tact.

“The #RevolutionNow movement ought to be properly monitored until it becomes clear and unimpeachable that an attempt to create an alternative government or encourage a coup against the government is suspected. These are the elements of treason.

“We will like to caution the conveners and participants of such movement that such gatherings must not have a militant posturing that will draw security concerns or stoke civil unrest.

“All rights are only as absolute as they exist within the parameters of the law. It is our hope that this matter will be resolved as amicably as the circumstance permits,” Olaseni said.

He said that the group would continue to follow unfolding events with the aim of intervening, where necessary and possible in the interest of peace and order.

source: https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/08/05/alaafin-begs-aliko-dangote-to-extend-employment-generation-drive-to-oyo-kingdom/

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has appealed to the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, to set up viable companies in Oyo kingdom, as he is doing across the country.

The Alaafin lauded Dangote for employing thousands of Nigerian youth, noting that the nation will witness real growth and development when able youths are gainfully employed.

The paramount ruler said this over the weekend during a meeting with the Management of Dangote Group in Lagos.

Dangote assured the Alaafin of his readiness to bring investments to the ancient town by exploring the agricultural potentials of the area to help reduce youth unemployment and vulnerability of women.

He promised to mandate the management of Aliko Dangote Foundation to look into social welfare projects it could undertake for the benefit of the people of Oyo.

Dangote said all hands should be on deck now more than ever before for job creation in view of the growing insecurity in the land, adding that joblessness is a major factor breeding criminal elements.

He added: “If we must enjoy what we have, we must be secured.

“The security of lives and property is not that of government alone, we all have a part to play.

“The whole thing still has to do with adequate funding.”

The business mogul told the Alaafin that his Foundation would put up a team to study the situation and come up with projects that could be undertaken in Oyo that would have positive impact on the youths and vulnerable women.

Earlier, the Alaafin had told his hosts that he came because of the concern for growing youth unemployment in his domain in particular and the nation in general, saying that he needed to be assisted to create jobs for the youths.

Oba Adeyemi pointed out that Dangote is a phenomenon in Nigeria and his companies are noted for job opportunities across the country and pleaded that the company should help look into areas where the Alaafin palace can partner with Dangote Group for mutual business relationship.

He explained that Oyo is rich in agriculture and urged the company to come and tap into the agriculture potentials of the town to benefit of the two parties adding that the agricultural sector has potentials for job creation and food security.

Eyes Of Lagos report that, The Alaafin and his entourage were received by Dangote at the Ikoyi global headquarters of the conglomerate together with the Group Executive Director of the Company, Chief Devakuma Edwin, who told the monarch how the company had been contributing to the engagement of youths in parts of the country through the Dangote Youth Rice Farm project.

Edwin then introduced the Alaafin to the management of Dangote Rice and assured that the team would take a study of Oyo town with a view to replicating the youth rice farm project, which had earlier been introduced in neighbouring Iseyin, also in Oyo State, so as to create jobs for the teeming graduates.

Edwin explained that the Dangote Youth Rice farm project is an out-grower scheme where the company would provide seedlings, fertilizer, chemicals and other input to the youth farmers and upon harvest buy back the paddy rice from them at the prevailing market rate and then process for consumption.

The GED regretted the growing youth unemployment, describing it as a serious issue that should be addressed quickly.

He lamented that many youths have taken to crime due frustration arising from joblessness.

Edwin said: “A situation where a brilliant child could not go to school because the parents are not paid salaries is very frustrating both to the child and the parents.

“A situation where others struggled to go to school and graduated only to be jobless could be very frustrating too.

“All these are what cascade to social malaise like terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other crimes because if the youths can get a job to do, they just would have to channel their energy towards a direction.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), an arm of the Lagos State Police command on Sunday said the have arrested a notorious phone dealer, identified as Yusuph Da-Silva, who specialized in buying mobile phones from armed robbers, cultists and pickpockets operating in Ogun and Lagos States.

The police said he buys over 30 phones a week and made between N25,000 and N30,000 daily from buying and selling robbed phones.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that after almost three months of relentless hunt, the suspect was last week Wednesday arrested by the Decoy Team of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) over a robbery incident around Ifako-Ijaiye, where mobile phones, laptops and other valuables were carted away at gun point.

The phone dealer, Yusuph Da-Silva, 28, popularly called ‘Da-Gold’ in Computer Village, Ikeja and Ifako Ijaiye, had been on the run after police began a crackdown on the robbery gangs supplying him mobile phones.

The suspect also confessed to have maintained links with three-armed robbery gangs who constantly supplied him with stolen phones and other valuables after their operations.

The first gang consist of Abiodun Tajudeen (a.k.a Shalori) Drey, and Moshood Akinwande (a.k.a Orobo) who rob with a bike. The second gang, AY and his cohort; and the third gang is led by ‘Idaso’ and his boys.

They are all notorious armed robbery gangs that specialize in robbing people at gun point around Fagba, Iju Ishaga, Oke Aro and Ifako areas.

He sold the phones in Computer Village Ikeja and shipped some to Kwara, Osun and Oyo States to make tracking of the stolen phones difficult for security operatives to retrieve if investigated.

Abiodun Tajudeen (a.k.a. Shalori) and Moshood Akinwande (a.k.a. Orobo), had sold some phones and other valuables to Da-Gold early this year which is the cause of his present arrest.

Investigations by the police revealed that both Tajudeen and Akinwande are presently in police custody over different robbery cases.

Also in his confessional Statement, Da-Gold said “police crack team in Magbon arrested AY’s gang who linked me as the receiver of all their stolen phones and I was arrested. The Police later recovered about seven smart phones from me.”

After the Magbon arrest, “I resulted to wearing hooded sweatshirts” which I use to disguise to avoid security agents from identifying him as many more investigations has turned its search light on the Ikeja computer Village ‘Big Boy.”

“I have different colours and designs of the hooded sweatshirt and I often avoid some areas to avoid getting arrested while I continue my business.”

Eyes Of Lagos Sources disclosed that Da-Gold stayed in Fagba Railway Line where he bought the robbed mobile phones before ferrying them to Computer Village, Ikeja, to sell them to retailers anxiously waiting for him.

Eyes Of Lagos reports gathered that, The statement read in part, “The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency has suspended, pending final investigation, the practicing Licence of an advertising firm, Provision Media System Limited, over indecent advertisement around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate.”

LASAA said the unregistered mobile advertising truck which had no valid registration for the current year 2019 was “illegally deployed in engaging in an abysmally debasing projection of semi-nude women for several hours around the Lekki/Ikoyi toll gate.

The agency said a check on its records for the current year 2019 confirmed that the truck with Lagos State number plate, APP713XL, was not registered with the agency for the deplorable purpose for which it was deployed by the company on Saturday.

“We wish to state, without equivocation that, no outdoor mobile advert truck within the jurisdiction of our dear state is licensed to display such crass immorality of the calibre that the owner(s) of this unregistered truck exhibited on our roads over the weekend”, the agency said.

Tinubu’s 2023 Campaign Billboards Spotted At Ikeja
source : https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/07/31/tinubus-2023-campaign-billboards-spotted-at-ikeja/

Two billboards with the inscription ‘BAT 2023’ and a popular photograph of Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress Party, has been mounted on a building a few meters away from the Lagos State Government Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to Eyes Of Lagos, the large billboards are so obvious that anyone coming from Allen Avenue towards Alausa, or from Ojodu Berger towards Ikeja would notice it.

Although the APC chieftain has yet to say anything concerning his political ambition for the 2023 elections, there have been rumours that he is planning to run for the Presidency in 2023.

It will be recalled that a former Senate President Bukola Saraki had claimed last year that the former governor was supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election with the hope that Buhari would, in turn, support him in 2023.

Tinubu’s recent statement concerning the death of the Afenifere Chieftain, Pa Fasoranti’s daughter by suspected herdsmen has spurred controversies among Nigerians, many of which have been asking if Tinubu was just being apologetic to the northern elites and President Muhammadu Buhari to get their support for his 2023 ambition.

It will be recalled that earlier in July, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, had reacted to pictures, caps, T-shirts, shirts and even leaflets with Bola Tinubu 2023 embossed on them.

Rahman had said, “We have seen pictures of caps, T-shirts, shirts and even leaflets with Bola Tinubu 2023 embossed on them purportedly by a faceless group which christened itself ‘Asiwaju Reloaded Ambassadors’.

“Neither the group nor its souvenirs are known to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. We hereby, through this medium, categorically deny any knowledge of the group and dissociate Asiwaju Tinubu from the group’s unsolicited and unwarranted materials.”

Politics / Four Feared Killed As Cultists Clash In Lagos Communities by eyesoflagos: 3:02am On Jul 28, 2019
Four feared killed as cultists clash in Lagos communities
source: https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/07/28/four-feared-killed-as-cultists-clash-in-lagos-communities/

There is palpable fear in Oworonshoki and Gbagada areas of Lagos State during the week as fresh violent clashes broke out in the neighbourhoods between two rival cult groups – Eiye and Aye confraternities.

It was learnt that the renewed hostilities began last Sunday evening and lingered until Wednesday, claiming four lives.

A trader at Fogo Junction, Iyana Owonroshoki, identified only as Iya Igbo, was said to be one of the victims. She was reportedly hacked to death by cult members who exploited the fights to rob innocent people.

Newsmen learnt that some cult members had trailed a member of their rival gang to a bar at Kiniun Ifa Junction in the Sawmill area of Gbagada, around 6 pm on Sunday and shot him dead.

Three hours later, a gang believed to be on a revenge mission, unleashed terror on Fogo Junction during which the Igbo trader and another woman selling slippers, were attacked with cutlasses. The latter reportedly escaped with injuries.

The women had reportedly resisted the hoodlums who wanted to dispossess them of their money and phones.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that on Monday, some suspected cult members shot dead a barber, one Olorunwa (aka Injection), in his shop on Oyegunle Street, Oworonshoki.

The clashes were said to have disrupted commercial activities in the areas and caused panic.

Olorunwa’s shop was locked on Thursday when newsmen visited the street.

A shop owner, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, told newsmen that the assailants rode on a motorcycle.

She added, “They shot the barber and fled immediately. He died on the spot. It was policemen from the Alonge division who came to pick his corpse. On Wednesday, we have to close shops quickly when the cult boys started chasing one another again.”

A community leader, Mr Agboola Bakare, said lives had become worthless to the hoodlums, noting that their violent activities had denied people of peace in the neighbourhood.

Bakare, who also confirmed the barber’s murder, said there had been calm in Oworonshoki for some time, until a week ago when the “uprising” began.

He urged the police to intensify patrols in the neighbourhood.

He said, “We live in fear every moment; the fear of children in the age group of our grandchildren. We understand some of them are in secret societies. We don’t know who to trust and discuss this issue with. The fear is that the elders you want to discuss it with may have their children in those circles.

“We don’t move freely again, especially when night falls. We meet with the police from time to time to find solutions to the problem. Maybe prayers will be the ultimate solution to the horror we find ourselves in. Some people blame it on joblessness. But are children in secondary schools qualified to take up appointments? Some of them are involved in this crime.”

A resident of Kiniun Ifa Street, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the area had become so charged that people now stayed indoors as early as 8 pm.

He said it took a combined team of policemen from Ifako and Bariga divisions to disperse the rampaging gangs on Sunday evening.

“Many traders now close their shops once it is 7 pm to avoid being caught up in the violence. A man was killed on Sunday in front of a beer parlour. I also learnt that they (cult members) killed a rival group member in Odo Eran, Oworonshoki,” he added.

The Chairman, Kiniun Ifa Residents’ Forum, Mr Jagun Adebowale, urged the police to beef up security in the area.

He lamented that most times, the hoodlums would have caused huge damage before police arrived the scene.

“The atmosphere is not friendly. What we have is graveyard peace. People ply their trade in panic,” the chairman added.

At Fogo Junction, some plain-cloth policemen were seen searching some men suspected to be cult members. They arrested a man and took him away in a Sienna car.

The Chairman, Somolu Central Taxi Park, beside Fogo Junction, Mr Ade Emmanuel, said he lost his phone while running to safety during the Wednesday clash.

He stated that the hoodlums injured the slippers seller on the shoulder while she was dragging her bag with them.

He said, “On Sunday around 9 pm, there was outage. We suddenly saw those boys with cutlasses and they were shooting indiscriminately. They attacked an Igbo woman in her shop and collected money from her. The woman later died from injuries she sustained. They also injured another woman selling slippers.’’

The chairman expressed worry over the late response of the police to distress calls.

He said, “Most times, it is after they leave that police will come. And if some of them are arrested, they will be released some days after. We used to leave the park at 10 pm, but now we close at 7 pm.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said two persons died in the clashes, adding that 14 suspects had been arrested.

“We have restored normalcy to the communities and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects,” he added.

There is no doubt, however, that each business environment demands one kind of approach or the other. It was in keeping faith with this reasoning that the Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, decided that if truly his vision to industrialise the state was to materialise and the successes sustained, there was the need to leverage whatever arteries through which private investors access the state, especially the Benin Airport, from which high net-worth individuals engage with their partners in the state. The plan was to ensure that the Benin Airport becomes more viable and able to handle higher air passenger traffic. This line of thought was anchored on the need to upgrade the infrastructure so it could handle more activities, especially night operations, which would create the room for private investors to do business in the state. Though a federal government facility, the state government’s intention to upgrade the airport caused them to take part responsibility for the job, which culminated in expenses running into about N169 million to facilitate the revamp of the airport, while relevant federal government agencies provided needed infrastructure, among which are high-end air navigation equipment. In The Beginning During a visit by top aviation actors in the country to the state in September 2017, Governor Obaseki was quick to relay his desire to improve infrastructure at the airport and said as much to the delegation from the federal government, which had the mandate for aviation in the country. The delegation included top officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The then managing director of FAAN, Engr. Saleh Dunoma, was with the managing director of NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, both of whom Governor Godwin Obaseki vehemently convinced on the need to strengthen partnership to refurbish the airport after the trio inspected facilities at the Benin Airport. Governor Obaseki said his administration would work with FAAN and NAMA to develop a plan that ensures the airport’s space was expanded. He noted that state intends to effectively utilise assets and resources within the state for the benefit of the people, which necessitated the inspection tour of the Benin Airport. According to him, “We have approached the federal authority to kindly come to our aid regarding the airport. The plan is to first improve the facilities in this airport and ensure that we have night landing facilities. This will enable the airport embark on 24 hours operation. With more airplanes coming in, we will see a lot more passenger traffic coming into our state.” Dunoma, noted that though the federal government had the responsibility to improve facilities at the Benin Airport, he was excited by the commitment coming from the Edo State government to upgrade the airport. “I want to thank the governor for coming to our aid and with his assistance we can do a lot more. We have inspected the facilities here and we will submit a report on what we need to do to improve the safety and facilities at this Airport,” he said. Capt. Akinkuotu of NAMA commended the joint effort being made both by the state and federal government on the upgrade, noting that the approach was the way to go to drive meaningful development across the country. He said the agency would collaborate with the Edo State government to ensure passengers do not only feel safe, but have good reasons to fly to the Benin Airport. He added, “We can’t but thank the Governor Obaseki for coming out to show support. The country belongs to all of us. He has demonstrated great leadership, and by working together, we can move the state forward.” After the inspection, work commenced properly and the state government constructed three security watchtowers; supplied and built houses for 2 20KVA generators; provided 3 Toyota Hilux vehicles to FAAN; facilitated the installation of CAT II Instrument Landing System/Distance measuring equipment by NAMA. The federal government through Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) provided Thunder and Lighting System; Met Enclosure and Secure Aviation Date Information System while FAAN provided Enhanced Simple Approach Landing System. Osinbajo Takes First Night Flight From Benin Airport One year after the inspection by the big wigs from the federal government, some of the equipment for night operations were installed and the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, did the honours of flying from the airport at about 7pm, a development that was unheard of at the airport in the last couple of years. Speaking after the number two citizen had taken off, Governor Obaseki, assured that the Benin Airport would commence full night-time flight operations after the installation of necessary facilities, which were being received in batches. Eyes Of Lagos reports gathered that, According to the governor, the landing facilities at the Benin Airport were already functioning which enabled the vice president to depart Benin City through the airport few minutes to 7pm on Thursday. “We are expecting more night landing equipment to be installed at the Benin Airport especially the lights. The contractor has assured us that the lights will arrive before the end of this month, February. We will launch it and have our inaugural night flight to Benin City,” he said. Aviation Minister Pledges NIMET Station, Agro-Allied Cargo Terminal Last week, the federal and Edo State governments eventually commissioned night landing equipment at the Benin Airport, officially reviving night operations at the 63-year old airport. Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, who was elated at the development, commended the doggedness and tenacity of Governor Godwin Obaseki in facilitating the commencement of night operations at the airport. “The operational capacity of the Benin City Airport has tremendously improved as we can now guarantee safe landing in reduced visibility and in bad weather condition. Aircraft can now land in Benin Airport at night. No more closure of the airport by 6 pm. “We have both ground and satellite-based equipment at the airport in such a way that if the ground base equipment fails, the satellite base equipment will work to ensure safe landing at the airport either in the day or at night,” the minister said. Speaking on further plans to maximise the use of the airport, Sen. Sirika said works had reached an advanced stage in building an Agro-allied Cargo Terminal at the Benin Airport, adding that the work on the civil structures has commenced with the support of Governor Obaseki. “We are bringing a cargo terminal to Benin to facilitate exportation of perishable agricultural products and other produce targeted at foreign markets,” he said. Noting that the Federal Ministry of Transportation through the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has constructed and donated a meteorological station at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), he said, “The opening of the office is part of the effort of the federal government to boost transportation in Edo State, especially in terms of aviation and weather forecasting. The weather forecasting can also be used by farmers to provide information on when it is a suitable time for planting.” On his part, Governor Obaseki said with the installation of the equipment and commencement of night landing facilities, the airport can now compete with its peers across the world, commending the FAAN and NAMA, for their close working relationship with his administration for over a year and a half in ensuring the upgrade becomes a reality. On the benefits of the upgrade to the state, Governor Obaseki said the development would transform the Benin Airport, noting, “The reason we insisted on upgrading facilities at the Benin Airport is that it is one of the five airports with high passenger traffic in the country. With the facilities in place, we can now convince airlines to make night stop-over in the city to further increase passenger traffic to boost the state’s revenue base.” The governor said equipment commissioned at the airport include thunder and lightning system, Secure Aviation Data Information System (SADIS); Enhanced Simple Approach Lighting System, CAT II and Instrument Landing System (ILS)/Distance Measuring Equipment (DME). Noting that the state facilitated the construction of two watchtowers to provide military officers with a vantage point for proper surveillance of the equipment and the airport, he said, “All this equipment were put together by the officials of NIMET, FAAN, NAMA and Edo State government. Two 20 KVA generators and plant house were built by the state government as well.” The governor said his administration was making efforts to ensure the state grows economically, which would be made possible through infrastructural development. A Plus For “Ease of Doing Business”, AGMs, Conferences And Business Meetings Aviation Security Consultant, Group Capt. John Ojikutu (rtd) said that night operations provide immense economic opportunities for cities with such operations, as it opens up a new vista of businesses for the airlines operating from such airports and also the state’s local economy. He hinted that Benin Airport was one of the few airports aside Lagos and Abuja airport with night operations, and with the commissioning of the facilities, there were prospects for economic boom in the state. Some of the benefit include hosting of conferences and annual general meetings by companies in the state, as a result of reduced cost for accommodation and other logistics. There is also the prospect of shows and concerts, wherein guests can easily leave the city by night as soon as the event wraps up. These will pull a lot of traffic to the state and increase spending in the local economy.

Adeleke Drags IGP To Court Over Arrest, Detention
source : https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/05/23/adeleke-drags-igp-to-court-over-arrest-detention/

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State in the last governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke has dragged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to court over his arrest and detention in Abuja on May 6, 2019. Eyes Of La gos gathered that, Adeleke had approached the Osun State High Court, Ikirun seeking for his fundamental rights to personal liberty and right to freedom of movement and the court presided over by Justice Jide Falola and ordered the police not to arrest or detain the senator pending the determination of the substantive case filed before it. Justice Falola had based his ruling on earlier court ruling by Justice I.E Ekwor of the Federal High Court, Abuja who had granted Adeleke leave to travel out of Nigeria between 7th May, 2019 and 9th June 2019 for medical attention. According to Justice Falola who noted that the ruling of the Federal High Court has incapacitated the respondents from arresting or detaining the applicant added, “A calm sober and judicial wisdom dictates that I allow the Order made by my brother, Ekwor J. of the Federal High Court Abuja in Charge No, FHC/ABJ/CR/156/2018 on Friday 3rd May 2019 to continue to operate. But on May 6th after the Osun High Court order was made, Adeleke was arrested, detained and arraigned on issues bordering on his WAEC certificate and Testimonial issued by Muslim Grammar School, Ede. In a five count offence, Adeleke was accused of presenting fake documents to contest the 2017 senatorial election which he won by defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Mudashiru Hussein. In the fresh suit, Adeleke who dragged the IGP, the Assistant Inspector of Police (AIG), Zone 11, Simon Lough, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and John Faluyi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to court urged it to further impress it on the respondents of the order made on the matter. The applicant lawyer, Barrister Kanmi Ajibola expressed dissatisfaction over the attitudes of the Nigeria Police, saying despite the fact that the respondents were duly served the court order, they still went ahead to arrest and detain the senator. In his ruling on Wednesday, Justice Falola issued form 48 against the police, asking them to take notice of consequence of disobedience of court order, warning them that they would be guilty of contempt of court “and will be liable to be committed to prison”.

Mr Antai Asuquo, the Operations Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Warri Zonal Office, has said that the Federal Government had no plan to increase the pump price of petrol. Asuquo made this disclosure to newsmen on Tuesday on a sideline during the celebration of the “World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development” held simultaneously in all the DPR offices in the country. The annual event with the theme,” Exploring Nigeria’s Diversity and Rich Cultural Heritage” was organised by the DPR. The controller urged Nigerians to be focused and stop worrying about possible fuel hike that could lead to crisis in the supply chain, adding that ‘the product is available and the pump price remains N145 per litre’. “There is availability of petroleum products, the price of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) remains the same and there is no immediate plan to change it. “We should not hoard the product for a particular period of time because keeping the product at home is dangerous. “Our lives and property are important, so we should value and manage our resources in a way that we do not cause harm to ourselves,” Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, he advised. Asuquo also urged Nigerians to key into the federal government’s policy on the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), noting that there was abundant cooking gas in the country. “The federal government is trying to enforce the availability of cooking gas all over the federation and people are encouraged to use it. “The LPG is the energy of the future, it is cleaner, most sustainable and we have abundant of it. “I encourage people to follow the government’s policies and we will be happy for it,” he said. On the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, Asuquo said Nigeria remained an indivisible entity irrespective of our ethnic, religious and cultural differences. “Today is diversity day; the DPR sets aside diversity in culture, gender, religion, style, grade and people; it is all about the multi faceted nature of our people in DPR. “This is what makes DPR special, we are united in diversity. The differences we have in terms of culture, religion and ethnicity has not changed our focus in Nigeria as an entity. “This is a way of assuring our staff and stakeholders in the Department that Nigeria is a one united indivisible entity. “As diverse as we are, we remain one, the focus is to ensure that Nigeria continues to grow from strength to strength and remain united “In the oil and gas industry, we interface with all manner of people globally. “We are also trained to adapt and be able to deal with others irrespective of their culture and backgrounds,” he said.

Politics / Four Things Prof. Yemi Osinbajo Means To Nigeria - Eyesoflagos by eyesoflagos: 1:22pm On May 21, 2019
Four Things Prof. Yemi Osinbajo Means to Nigeria
source: https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/05/21/four-things-prof-yemi-osinbajo-means-to-nigeria/

According to facts gathered by Eyes Of Lagos, Not many people know what Prof. Yemi Osinbajo really means to Nigerians and how he has impacted the lives of people and the nation.
Below are four things the number two man means to Nigeria.
1. Hope for Nigerians (through the Social Investments Programmes): Vice President Yemi Osinbajo oversees what is regarded as the largest social investments programme in sub-Saharan Africa. The National Social Investment Programmes (N-SIP) comprises of the N-Power Programme, currently employing 500,000 graduates; the GEEP loans (Market Moni, FarmerMoni andTrader Moni), providing credit to over 3 million Nigerian traders, artisans and businessmen; the Home Grown School Feeding Programme, feeding over 9.5 million children in public schools in 31 states nationwide; and the Conditional Cash Transfer programme, putting disposable funds in the hands of over 300,000 of the poorest families in Nigeria.

The Social Investment Programmes are the most successful social investment programmes ever implemented in Nigeria. Designed, promoted and managed by Vice President Osinbajo, they have lifted millions of Nigerians out of poverty. Indeed, the N-SIPs are is giving hope to millions of Nigerians nationwide and helping them to improve their lives.
It is not surprising that only a week ago, President Muhammadu Buhari commended him for the success of the programmes – like the World Bank and many more. The commendations are evidence of hard-work, transformational policies and dedication. They are deserved as well.
2. Improving the Economy: As a recession seemed inevitable in 2016 – giving the absence of any savings by previous administrations, falling of the price of oil in the international market, the destruction of Nigeria’s oil assets by militants, and the monotonic nature of Nigeria’s economy – Nigeria needed a team to steer the ship out of the storm. And Prof. Osinbajo provided the lead of this team.
The Niger Delta New Vision, which is the blueprint of the Buhari administration to develop the Niger Delta, is being spearheaded by the Vice President on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari. His leadership and forthrightness to ensure development was clear for all to see during his tour of the region and meetings with Niger Delta elders. Osinbajo’s leadership acumen has not only helped rebuild the trust of many who had been skeptical of the Federal Government’s New Vision, it has also contributed in no small measure to the peace and stability in the region. This has greatly helped to improve oil revenue that had suffered greatly from past restiveness, and so the country’s economy.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is the head of Nigeria’s Economic Management Team. His leadership was able to bring the country out of its worst recession to hit it in decades. Since the country’s exit from the recession, he has overseen the economy grow from negative, and headed to a double digit, even beyond the predictions of the IMF and the World Bank. The journey with his captainship has been a steady and sure rise: diversification has been successfully pursued, with increased inputs now being seen from the non-oil sectors in our GDP and revenue; the country’s foreign reserves have doubled in just four years; the minimum wage increase is set for implementation despite Nigeria’s low earnings from oil; these and more show a focused, dogged, resilient and witty economic management team – led by Professor Osinbajo.
Also, the Vice President is chair of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), which was inaugurated in July 2016, as the administration’s flagship initiative to reform the business environment, attract investment and diversify the economy to reduce the nation’s reliance on oil. Since its setup, PEBEC has spearheaded reforms that have improved the nation’s economic environment through its Ease of Doing Business reforms. This ensured Nigeria moved up 24 places on the World bank’s Ease of Doing business index and earned the country commendation as one of the top 10 reforming economies in the world. Also, the Vice President has helped launch the administration’s Energizing Economies project which provides solar power to markets and economic clusters for small businesses and petty traders and so, drives economic growth.
3. Leadership: Seen as youthful, agile, contemporary and versatile, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stands out as the significant link between Nigeria’s young population to the President Buhari administration. And he doesn’t stop at that. He is a mentor to hundreds of young Nigerians through his platform, Act Now Group. His aides are comprised mostly of a tech-savvy generation of young upwardly mobile youths. Osinbajo gladly welcomes opportunities to mentor young people to become excellent in their respective fields and contribute their quota to nation-building. He walks the talks and is a bridge-builder, for both the young and old generations.
As Nigeria’s number two citizen he has taken positions that prove his deft appreciation of leadership: he took mended the fence of feuding members of his party APC. As Acting President, he took hefty but pertinent decisions: he appointed a Chief Justice where there was a vacuum, he unflinchingly sacked a recalcitrant head of Nigeria’s security services, he signed Executive Orders to improve Nigeria’s business community. As a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he is a leader of thoughts who has left indelible marks of astute thoughts in Nigeria’s jurisprudential space. His prominent role as Head of Nigeria’s Economic Management Team needs no second mention.
Just recently, in demonstration of true leadership, the Vice President temporarily delayed his trip to the airport for an official assignment to engage with some Abuja residents protesting on the highway over alleged land grabbing by members of the Nigerian Army. He subsequently met with leaders of the community and also Nigerian Army to ensure the issues are resolved amicably. Osinbajo has displayed such exemplary leadership on many occasions.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo means leadership to Nigeria today – cutting across professions, ethnic groups and age demographics.
4. Bringing people closer to government: From Oyo to Owerri, Maiduguri to Yenagoa, everywhere he goes, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has a way with people that instantly magnets them to his inborn charm and aura of personality. Whether in the wide corridors of power, in the narrow passages in marketplaces or wading through flooded areas around Nigeria, VP Osinbajo is at home with both the high and mighty, as well as the low and ordinary Nigerians. Simply put, Osinbajo’s deep connection with people goes deeper than the surface. It is neither for the camera or for the klieg lights or for photo-ops, just the epitome of a man whose life and career has been built on the foundations of championing social causes well before his university days, and giving back to society through his talents, skills, and resources.
Recently, during the launch of the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Ekiti State, the Vice President was pictured sitting with one of the schoolgirls in her classroom while the pupils enjoyed their meal. Like a dotting father, Osinbajo leaned closer to listen to what the little girl was saying at the time. Later that day, he tweeted, “She spoke, I listened. She was the boss of me today (insert smile emoji).” It felt like a photo-op moment, but it was more than that. It succinctly captured a man devoid of airs, one who embodied the essence of true leadership driven by compassion and genuine concern for people’s welfare. Everywhere he goes, his connection with people is evident. Everywhere he goes, it is evident that people, Nigerians, simply love this man. Sometimes, the crowd is so overwhelming, that Osinbajo’s security and protocol struggle to contain them. True compassion cannot be masked in photo-ops. Osinbajo is the real deal. He brings a human face to governance like never seen before from one holding the Number 2 position in Africa’s most populous country.
At countless events, despite his busy itinerary and schedules, and retinue of security, Osinbajo takes out time to listen to a child, a young or old man or woman, who wouldn’t have had a whiff of opportunity to come close to him in any situation. He listens to everyone, regardless of status or social class. Whether it was that woman that was moved to pray for him in the market, or a group of three generations of a grateful family he visited during one of his family chats, or the excited mai suya who couldn’t believe his eyes that Nigeria’s Vice President actually stopped by his stall to engage him in a conversation and then purchase his wares, or those group of starry-eyed kids who surrounded him and listened with rapt attention, or those excited young men and women who just wanted to take selfies with this great man; Osinbajo’s deep connection with people shines through.
Osinbajo brings that quality of compassion into political leadership and governance, he goes to meet the people where they are, bringing government closer to ordinary people. He loves to be there, to feel the pulse of the people, with the people, so that he could help them to make their lives and situations better.

Pastor’s 19-Year-Old Marriage Collapses Over Small Manhood
source; https://eyesoflagos.com/2019/05/21/pastors-19-year-old-marriage-collapses-over-small-manhood/

Pastor Samson Farounbi has told an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi in Ibadan, Oyo State that the small size of his manhood made his estranged wife to deny him sex for a long period.

Farounbi disclosed this yesterday, May 20, 2019, when he testified before the court on a case of divorce he instituted against his estranged wife, Tope.

He had requested the court to end the 19-year-old union on the grounds of unrest of mind, threat to life and lack of respect for his family.

Narrating his ordeals, the pastor said his wife, who was a fruit seller, used to return home at late hours every day and refused to have sex with him.

“There was a day I challenged her why she always return late and denying me sex.

“She confessed that the small size of my penis was responsible for keeping late outside and for refusing to have sex with me. She suggested I should buy local herb for the treatment of my micro penis which cost N5,000 but I priced it down to N4,000.

”I got myself treated with the ‘agbo’ (local herb) but she still felt reluctant to allow me have access to her body,” he narrated.

The pastor further alleged that the defendant maltreated his mother when she was living with him and that the ill-treatment forced his aged mother to relocate to Ilesha where she died a few months later.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, He told the court that Tope used to insult every member of his family and his blood brothers when they visited him.”My lord, she is a devil, always fighting people especially females, that come to my church for prayers, accusing me of flirting with them. We have never stayed beyond two years in every house I rented since we married 19 years ago due to her stubbornness and troublesome character,” Farounbi said.

In her defence, Tope denied all the allegations but urged the court to dissolve the marriage as requested by the plaintiff. The president of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun and the two court assessors, Chief Wahab Popoola and Chief Alao Ganiyu, in their unanimous decision, dissolved the marriage.

Their marriage is blessed with five children.
