sbeezy8:Liar! Liar! The North did pick OBJ. He had to get support of all the Northern elite. And Yar'Adua was picked by OBJ, in which the North seen him as a safe pick as well, because he was a Fulani aristocrat as well recognizing the sacrifice his brother Shehu Yar'Adua had made. |
And people are continuing to blame PDP for ruining Nigeria. It was not PDP who ruined Nigeria, it was past Military Heads of State like Buhari, IBB and Sani Abacha. PDP is new to the game, so it is not really fair to blame them for all of Nigeria's woes. I am just saying. . . |
Sjeezy acts like OBJ has a lot of power in Nigeria. Remember the North picked OBJ, in order to placate the Yoruba who were still fuming about Abiola. Now OBJ has angered his benefactors in the North and he has no support in the West, so where is he getting his support? |
Ya'll do too much follow-follow. 100% agreement is implausible. No human beings are like that.
Igbos are not known to follow-follow. We do not follow other groups, nor do we follow other Igbos unless the situation demands it. When dealing with other groups in Nigeria, the Igbo must speak with one voice. When dealing with our own internal problems, then we can have differing views. |
jason123:How is it tribalism when I have no tribal allegiance to the Ijaws? I am a bona fide Igbo man supporting a Niger Delta minority. There is nothing tribal about that. It is more altruistic than tribal in nature. We Igbos just want to see our neighbors do well. Take a trip to the Niger Delta and see why it will take a person from the Niger Delta to fix the problem, unless you want the nation to continue to have bloodshed in that region. GEJ knows the intricacies of solving the problems, because he hails from the region. Buhari, Ribadu etc will not know how to deal with the Niger Delta and will only use force which will exasperate the region even more. |
Two dudes who I highly respect (though we are on different teams), and pay attention to what they say.
You two only respect them, because they agree with you all quite often. Of course you would like someone who agrees with you. Abagworo has disappointed many Igbos on Nairaland, and has went against the wider view of many Igbos. Eziachi is a wise Igbo sage in my opinion. He doesn't rush to conclusions, but that does not mean he doesn't have our interest at heart. |
I believe the ancestors of the Igbo arrived from the East. Mainly around present day Uganda and Southern Sudan. The foundations of Nri and the ancestors of the Igbo should be looked to the East. |
Jason, I am going to have to ask you to refrain from tribalism or get out. This has nothing to do with Biafra or the "Old East." I am voting for GEJ, because he is from the Niger Delta. Many of my family members resides in the Niger Delta such as Port Harcourt and Ikot Ekpene, so I have a vested interest in GEJ gaining the presidency. |
China does not care who they deal with. At least they do not try to interfere with sovereign rights of states unlike the West. Remember that Chinese loans do not have those clauses like the loans given by the World Bank. And I like how China is doing infrastructure projects all around the continent. However, I wish they would employ indigenous Africans instead of importing Chinese workers. https://www.commercialpressuresonland.org/sites/default/files/images/china_africa_01.jpg |
^-- But not in Akwa Ibom, where it appears the ACN is strong :]
The governor of Akwa Ibom has developed the state in many ways. Even though he is corrupt, the man still gets work done. Take a trip to the state and you will see many states in Nigeria cannot even compare to the level of development that has been seen in that state. |
@EzeUche: Awww, I didn't know you were such a softy
Lets just keep that to ourselves. ![]() I can't have people thinking I am soft. That would destroy my reputation on Nairaland. |
Well said, Tinubu.
Tinubu's voice will be heard on deaf ears. This is not the SW he is talking to, this is the East. There is a lot of hostility towards ACN in many states in the East. |
No one has a right to the presidency. I just see groups that are more deserving of the presidency than others. Until Nigeria comes to a period, where we will not look at the region, religion or ethnicity of the person, I shall continue to vote for those who have my region's interest at heart. I am tired of the same region ruling Nigeria for 35+ years. Don't you people see a problem with that? What gives them the right to think that they should rule Nigeria? My support is for a minority from a region that has been neglected for decades, which should show many of you my reasoning. As a member of a majority group in Nigeria who are supporting a minority, that speaks volumes about my people. |
Tinubu does not hold sway in this region of Nigeria. The good people of Akwa Ibom state do not take kindly to those who interfere in their internal affairs. |
How does this go along with democracy? What if a majority of people do not think that minority is the best person for the job? They should vote for him. . . just because? In other words, zoning (which GEJ sought to destroy)? There is a fundamental inconsistency here. If GEJ believes that zoning is dead, then is the alternative not people choosing freely who they want to lead them? You cannot have your cake and eat it. If you keep zoning intact, then the SS can rule again once it is their turn. If you destroy zoning, then it becomes a free for all.
We are not at that level of advanced democracy yet. You are coming from Western view of our democracy. In the developing world, democracies are quite messy. Frankly, we haven't even formed partisan identities in Nigeria, in people mostly look look to regional, religious and ethnic lens. Haven't you realized that by now. GEJ became president by chance and now he wants to run for office. And he has the right to run for office. My vote for him is a vote for the Niger Delta. I am not here to make people agree with me, I am only telling you my personal views. |
lovelylady:Nigerians tend to use "extreme" words, even when they do not mean it. For the most part, I will say that many of us enjoy have AAs who find their roots in Africa. I am in full support of AAs going back to Africa to reclaim their roots and becoming more conscious of their brothers and sisters on the continent. We are all one people. The original man is African, so let us all be friends and move forward. I often see more AA women more receptive to Africa than the men. |
It is about time someone from the Niger Delta, become president. Only a Niger Deltan can fix the problems associated with that region, which is the most important issue that is plaguing Nigeria. Since the Niger Delta is the goose that laid the golden egg, it is only fitting, that a minority from that region produce the next president. I am not an Ijaw, but I am in full support of GEJ, because I am optimistic that he can solve the problems plaguing the region, more so than any other person running for president. |
Ndipe:It is the rules of many of our clans. I actually support exogamy, because it keeps our gene pool diverse. When we marry those who are not part of our communities, we are able to strengthen our people, by adding new genes into the community. |
scorpio58:No problem, just simply pointing it out. I know you didn't mean any harm. Many people do understand that the word "tribe" can be quite offensive to some Africans. I am simply here to enlighten those who do not know that the word can be seen as derogatory. |
There is hope for Nigeria. With optimism, we can move this nation in the right direction. |
GEJ is moving the nation in the right direction. I hope to see more plans from him and hopefully they will be implemented. |
scorpio58:I know you didn't mean any harm, but it is not good to refer to African ethnicities as "tribes." Some of our ethnicities are 30+ million people. Europeans like to refer to different African groups as "tribes," even though our ethnicities are sometimes more than their own people. I never hear the Welsh people of Britain being referred to as a tribe even though there are only 700,000 Welsh, compared to 30 million Igbos. However, many people in this section of Nairaland will be happy to teach you about our various cultures and traditions. I hear that there are AA genealogical companies that can do a DNA test for you to see what African ethnicities you descend from. |
‘Jonathan will unite Nigeria’ Nigerians have been urged to elect President Goodluck Jonathan, as he will unite the nation. A former publisher, Dr Moshood Fayemiwo, said this at the weekend. Fayemiwo, who was incarcerated by the late Gen. Sani Abacha for two years before he was released by the Gen Abdulsalami Abubarkar regime, said: "Coming from the Niger Delta, Jonathan is better positioned to refocus the country and restore its image in the international community. We need a leader with good ideas, not a man who is seething for vengeance or one who would draw us back. "Jonathan is a bridge between the old and the new. The only way we can perfect our union is to look beyond ethnic politics and allow the person with the best credentials occupy the highest seat in the country, no matter where he comes from. "Every Nigerian has the right to aspire to become anything in the country. Nothing stops an Ijaw man from ruling. "What we need is a consolidation of our democracy, which can best be done by a gentleman and not a soldier. We do not need the services of a soldier right now, but that of a leader with the healing balm. A nation is not run like a garrison." Jonathan Signs Human Rights Commission Bill Into Law March 28, 2011 BY INNOCENT ANABA President Goodluck Jonathan has signed the National Human Rights Commission Amendment Bill into law, bringing to an end, more than eight years of legislative advocacy and executive lobbying. The National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, NHRC, March 27, 2011 was established by decree in 1995, with a mandate to promote and protect human rights. According to the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Mr Roland Ewubare, “the passage of the Bill, will strengthen the operational efficiency of the Commission and upgrade the status of Nigeria at the International Coordinating Committee, ICC, of Human Rights Institutions.” He added that Nigeria was stripped of its voting rights and downgraded to “B” status at the ICC, three years ago, due to lack of independence of the NHRC. He, however, expressed delight that the content of the new law, particularly as it relates to security of tenure, independence for the Commission and additional powers of investigation and enforcement will further strengthen the Commission and ensure its upgrading to “A” status. Mr Ewubare commended President Goodluck for signing the Bill into law and urged the government to provide adequate funding for the implementation of the provisions of the new law. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/jonathan-signs-human-rights-commission-bill-into-law/ |
Onlytruth:We all have different aspirations and political views. The way I see things, I think we should go back to regional political divisions with a few changes. Such as a new Middle Belt region, the I believe the Ijaw should be placed into a region of their choice. |
^^^ Then which political zone should Edo State be in? If not the South-South, should they be placed with the South-West? I do not think many people in that state would support that, but I doubt GEJ will lose the state though. This is simply a speculation. |
9ijaMan:To be honest, my support for GEJ is due to the fact that I want to see a South-South minority to win the presidency. If he wins, I hope he can help improve the region, because he is actually from the region. Especially dealing with the constant gas flares that continue to plague the Niger Delta. Buhari may be one with the people, but I do not like his past and I refuse to support anyone who was a past military head of state. That is my personal preference. |
https://www.debbieschlussel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/cantwealljustgetalong.jpg Can't we all just get along? ![]() |
This is very good for publicity I must say. Buhari wants to be seen as a regular Nigeria in one with the people. |

nikkykay:What? Ojukwu is the most widely respected Igbo man throughout all of Alaigbo. When he came to Abia, he was greeted by adoring admirers, when he came to Imo, he was greeted by adoring admirers, when he went to Ebonyi, he was given a warm reception so what are you trying to say? |
As long people understand that Port Harcourt the most important town in the Niger Delta, the town I was raised is safely under Igbo authority. |
