EducationEKSU Management Debunks Claim University Lacked Electricity Supply For 10 Years by fabinfos(op): 2:49pm On Mar 08
Setting the Record Straight on Electricity Supply to Ekiti State University

It is both misleading and inaccurate to claim that Ekiti State University (EKSU) has not enjoyed electricity supply for a period of ten (10) years. Such an assertion does not reflect the reality on ground.

If there had truly been no electricity for a decade, it would have been impossible for the University to effectively discharge its three core mandates of teaching, research, and community service.

Critical academic programmes such as Anatomy, Medicine and a host of others which rely heavily on constant power supply could have been crippled as against the giant strides being recorded by the university. The various laboratories in the university, which require 24-hour power supply would have been inoperative. The processing of students’ results, preparation of transcripts, issuance of certificates, and the conduct of paperless meetings could have been severely hindered as well as our Administrative and academic operations, which depend significantly on stable power, would simply not have been sustainable.

While it is true that—like many institutions and communities across Nigeria—EKSU experiences intermittent public electricity supply, the University Management has consistently put measures in place to mitigate the effects these challenges. Alternative power sources, including heavy duty generators and solar energy systems, are deployed to complement the regular supply from Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). Through these proactive measures, electricity is provided to offices, auditoria, laboratories, and other essential facilities across campus.

It is also important to clarify that EKSU was established as a non-residential university and as such, majority of our students reside in private hostels located in Iworoko-Ekiti and other surrounding communities. These hostels are owned and managed by private individuals. Any failure on the part of the landlords to provide adequate electricity to their tenants cannot reasonably be attributed to the University Management.
In summary, while electricity supply may at times be unstable as it is common in many parts of the country it is incorrect to suggest that the University has operated without electricity for ten years. Electricity is available on campus, supported by both public supply (dedicated lines) and alternative power solutions. Challenges relating to electricity in off-campus hostels are largely environmental and landlord-related, which is not a reflection of neglect or failure on the part of the University.

Thank you.

CrimePolice Finds Alleged Missing Ekiti State University Student. by fabinfos(op): 7:09pm On Jan 19
In a dramatic turn of events that has left Ekiti State reeling, police have located 21-year-old Damilola Praise, a student at Ekiti State University, who vanished after a routine trip from Lagos.

What began as a frantic search for a possible kidnapping victim ended in a stunning revelation: the young man wasn't abducted but deliberately went off the grid to escape his family's scrutiny.

Damilola arrived in Ado-Ekiti on January 5, 2026, and briefly phoned his parents to confirm his safe return, only for his lines to go dead, sparking widespread alarm. Ekiti State Police Commissioner Joseph Eribo swiftly mobilized the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, whose relentless pursuit tracked him to Oshogbo in neighboring Osun State. There, Damilola confessed he fled due to crippling academic struggles, opting to drop out and secure a menial job at a local security firm rather than face disappointment at home.

This bizarre case highlights the intense pressures on today's youth, with Commissioner Eribo urging the public to verify facts before fueling social media hysteria that could ignite unnecessary chaos. As investigations continue, Damilola's story serves as a chilling reminder of hidden personal battles lurking behind every disappearance.

See press statement by Ekiti State Police Command below;

EKITI STATE POLICE COMMAND
PRESS RELEASE: Ekiti State Police Command finds alleged missing Ekiti State University Student.

The Ekiti state Police Command wishes to inform the general public that one Damilola Praise, a 21-year old student of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, who reportedly got missing, has been found.

Earlier report had it that Damilola Praise boarded a vehicle from a park in Lagos to Ado-Ekiti on the 5th of January,2026. Upon his arrival in Ado Ekiti, it was reported that he called his parents on phone to inform them about his safe arrival. However, his phone numbers became unreachable shortly after the call, and all efforts made by his family members and friends to reach him proved unsuccessful.

Upon the receipt of the distress information, the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, directed the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department(SCIID) to commence a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure the whereabouts of the alleged victim is uncovered.

Operatives of the State CIID immediately swung into action, and through a concerted and painstaking effort, trailed the alleged missing Damilola Praise to Oshogbo in Osun State where he was found.

During investigation, Damilola Praise revealed that he was never kidnapped nor abducted. According to him, he decided to stay off his parents’ reach as a result of his poor academic performance. He stated that after considering all the available options, the best for him was to stay out of school and look for a menial job, since he could no longer cope academically.

It was further revealed that Damilola Praise has already sourced a job for himself in a security company at Oshogbo, Osun State.

While further investigations will be conducted and necessary actions will be taken, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, cautions citizens against rushing to the social media to create and circulate unverified narratives that could cause unnecessary panic or uproar in the society.

HealthEkiti Govt Sacks Surgeon At EKSUTH Over Alleged Removal Of Patient’s Kidney by fabinfos(op): 1:06pm On Dec 19, 2025
According to a recently released statement by Dr Oyebanji Filani, Honourable Commissioner for Health & Human Services, the lead surgeon has been dismissed, while the rest of the surgical team faces a one-month suspension.

The Ekiti State Government has taken swift action following a panel’s investigation into a surgical complaint by Mr. Joshua Afolayan at EKSUTH.

The government will fund a new kidney transplant for Afolayan and his post-op care for two years. Major departmental reforms at EKSUTH have also been approved to improve clinical standards and patient safety.

See full statement below;

Yesterday, the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services received the detailed report submitted by the seven-member Panel of Enquiry chaired by Professor Francis Faduyile.

The panel was constituted 11 days ago, to investigate the claim made by Mr. Joshua Afolayan regarding a surgical procedure he underwent at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).

Upon careful review of the report and its recommendations, the Ekiti State Government has approved the following actions:

The surgeon who had primary responsibility for the surgery is to be dismissed from the service of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) with immediate effect.
All members of the surgical team present in the theatre on the day of the operation are to be suspended from duty for a period of one month, pending further administrative review.
The Ekiti State Government will bear the full cost of a new kidney transplant for Mr. Joshua Afolayan and will also take responsibility for his post-transplant care and transplant related medical maintenance for a period of two years.
In line with the recommendations of the Panel, a comprehensive reorganisation of relevant departments within EKSUTH will be undertaken to strengthen clinical governance, accountability, and patient safety.
While the Ekiti State Government continues to stand firmly behind the many dedicated and hardworking health professionals at EKSUTH and acknowledges their sacrifices and commitment to service, it will not hesitate to take decisive action where professional standards are breached.

The Government remains resolute in its commitment to protecting patients, upholding ethical and professional standards in healthcare delivery, and restoring and sustaining public confidence in the Ekiti State health system. Necessary reforms will be pursued to ensure that incidents of this nature do not recur and that EKSUTH continues to serve as a centre of excellence in patient care.

We thank the people of Ekiti State for their patience, and trust, and we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to continued improvement in quality health care, compassion, and responsible governance.

Christianity EtcWhy Christians Should Not Be Scared Of WITCHES by fabinfos(op):
Only Christians who do not understand the power they command will be scared of witchcraft

Luke 10:19 is a Bible verse where Jesus tells His disciples, "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you," signifying divine power over spiritual and physical threats, meaning believers have protection and power against Satan and evil forces, though it can be interpreted literally or figuratively for spiritual battles.

In essence, Luke 10:19 is a declaration of empowerment for believers, assuring them of God's provision and protection as they operate with His authority against all forms of evil.

CrimeOyebanji Seeks Strong Civil-military Relations, Condemns Fayose Market Attack by fabinfos(op): 1:45pm On Nov 19, 2025
....Foot medical bills of victims of military-civilians' crisis

The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has called for improved military-civilian relations to curb the menace of consistent brutality and mutual distrust being experienced between the uniformed men and the society at large.

Oyebanji condemned the attack leading to three persons being severely injured during a fracas that broke out between some military personnel and traders at Fayose Market, located at Ajilosun Area of Ado Ekiti Capital, on Tuesday.

The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, during a visit to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital(EKSUTH), where three victims, who got injured during a brawl between some military men and traders at the Fayose Market are receiving medical treatments.

During the uprising, which was said to have caused serious social disorder, three victims sustained severe gunshots and serious bodily injuries before being taken to EKSUTH for intensive medicare.

Speaking during the visit, Oyebanji, represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, frowned at the attack, promising that the culprits will be brought to justice to serve as deterrent to others.

The governor insisted that the matter leading to the exchange of fisticuffs between the military and the civilians could have been avoided, if the country has grown remarkable instinct of military-civilians' relations.

Oyebanji appealed to the military to always tolerate the excesses of the civilians and learn how to handle their cases professionally to avert recurrent issue of disorders and brutality that could endanger social harmony.

The governor sympathised with the victims and wished them quick recuperation, with a promise to foot their medical bills to assuage their feelings at this critical time.

"Immediately the matter was brought to us, Governor Oyebanji despatched a team to go and check the situation. Those who were taken to the hospital were also checked to know how they were faring. We thank God no life was lost.

"But let me say that Governor Oyebanji was highly displeased with this kind of attack. The soldiers and traders at Fayose Market should have tolerated themselves and if they had seen anyone going against the law, then police should have been involved instead of taking the laws into their own hands. That was unacceptable to us.

"The matter that broke out between the military and civilians and the number of victims were regrettable. This can't be tolerated in any sane society. Ekiti under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji won't allow any form of oppression of our people or disrespect for our uniformed men. There must be a balance.

"To maintain a society that will be orderly, we owe it a responsibility for all of us to respect one another and learn how to control our emotions, even when we get angry by the activities of any individual or group.

"We are assuring you that this matter will be investigated thoroughly and whoever is found guilty will surely face the full weight of the law".

The Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Prof Kayode Olabanji, disclosed that the three patients brought to the facility are gradually stabilizing, after the bullets that pierced their bodies were removed and wounds treated shortly after they were brought in.

"Though, one of them had a severe case when they were brought in. But we quickly swung into action by removing the bullets, sutured the wounded areas and repaired the damaged parts.

"As you can see, they are in stable conditions and there is no fear that any of them will die", the CMD stated.

Condemning the attack on his people, the Chairman, Fayose Market, Mr. Adeleye Adekunle, revealed that the crisis, which started as a misunderstanding between a military man and a trader, could have been resolved amicably, but for the alleged uncontrollable anger of the uniformed man.

Adeleye saluted Governor Oyebanji for quickly intervening in the matter, saying the issue will be resolved through tripartite roundtable discussion among the government, military and the traders.

"I want to appreciate the government for its quick involvement in this matter, if not, the situation could have got worse.

"I appeal to my people to calm down and allow the government to fully handle the matter. We have that confidence that the government will do the right thing in the matter, so nobody should take laws into his hands".

PoliticsTinubu Cannot Veto Fubara Suspension, Needs National Assembly - Kikio by fabinfos(op): 6:53am On Mar 20, 2025
President Tinubu cannot use his Veto power to override National Assembly in suspending Rivers Governor Sim Fubara, Kikio.ng can authoritatively confirm.

Tinubu's veto power applies to bills and laws passed by the National Assembly, not to procedural decisions like the suspension of a governor.

According to the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended), the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, cannot use his veto power to override the suspension of democratically elected governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara.

The 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) outlines the presidential veto power under Section 58. Specifically, Section 58(4) and (5) address the president's veto power.

Section 58(4):
"Where a bill is presented to the President after being passed by the National Assembly, the President shall, within thirty days, signify that he assents to the bill or that he withholds his assent."

Section 58(5):
"Where the President withholds his assent to a bill and the bill is again passed by both Houses of the National Assembly, with a vote of not less than two-thirds of all the members of each House, the bill shall become law, and the President shall not assent to the bill."

This gives the President the power to withhold assent (veto a bill) but also allows the National Assembly to override the veto with a two-thirds majority.

Foreign AffairsRwanda Orders All European Diplomats To Leave Country Within 2 Days by fabinfos(op): 6:33pm On Mar 17, 2025
In a statement released Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Rwanda announced the immediate severance of diplomatic relations with Belgium.

The decision comes just one day after President Kagame accused Belgian officials and other European powers of mobilizing international sanctions against Rwanda and falsely implicating the country in the Congo conflict.

Now, what you see happening every day, the accusations they throw at us, in Kinyarwanda, we call it *gukoronga*—constant insults and attacks,” Kagame said. “They talk about the war in Congo, first making it Rwanda’s war, and then claiming that Rwanda supports it.” Kagame singled out Belgium for what he called “shameless” behavior, criticizing the country for pressuring the international community to isolate Rwanda. “Belgians go to Kinshasa and point a finger towards Rwanda and say they will impose sanctions on us and also mobilise the world against Rwanda. They are shameless. Mobilising the world against Rwanda, with our small size? They should leave us alone.”

In response, Belgium’s foreign minister, Maxime Prevot, condemned the expulsion as “disproportionate” and said it signaled Kigali’s unwillingness to engage in diplomatic dialogue. “Belgium regrets the decision of Rwanda to cut off diplomatic relations with Belgium and to declare Belgium’s diplomats persona non grata,” he wrote on X. Tensions have been building over the past two weeks. On March 4, Germany suspended financial aid to Rwanda after a United Nations report alleged that thousands of Rwandan troops were fighting alongside M23 rebels in eastern Congo. The United States and the United Kingdom had already taken similar steps by halting aid to Kigali. President Kagame’s administration has consistently denied any involvement in the conflict, rejecting claims of military support to rebel groups.

With the 48-hour deadline now in effect, all European diplomats are expected to leave Rwanda by Wednesday, March 19.

Asake is described by Elesho as a “day-one friend,” with a treasure trove of shared memories from their university days.

According to Elesho, their friendship circle also included other notable figures, such as celebrity MC Yhemolee, content creator Jimi Agbaje, Woli Arole, and Blaqbones, all of whom were part of their tight-knit group during their early days.
