The attention of the Management of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) has been drawn to the interview granted the Arise Television by the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke where he mentioned some state-owned universities in Nigeria as quacks and irrelevant. In the same press interview with Dr. Reuben Abati, he listed some first generation universities as the ones that matter most in the ongoing struggle by ASUU.
The Management of EKSU views this denigrating remark about some universities, coming from the National President of ASUU as unfortunate, reckless and unwarranted.


Ekiti State University, Ado- Ekiti is currently the 14th best university in Nigeria out of about 200 universities (Federal, State & Private) and the 2nd best State University according to the recent Webometric ranking of universities.
Apart from the above, the university (EKSU) has nearly all its academic programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional regulatory bodies. The university is proud to have many top rated globally recognised academics, and its alumni are making waves both Nationally and Internationally. By the grace of God, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor-elect of Ekiti State is an alumnus and a former lecturer in the University. Even in ASUU, a number of staff of our university had served and still serving in various capacities at zonal and national levels including but not limited to Professor Afolabi Popoola, Dr. Sikiru Eniola, Profs. Eddy Olanipekun, Ayan Adeleke and Olu-Olu Olufayo.

Therefore, categorizing EKSU as among the quack and irrelevant universities is a testimony to the fact that the ASUU President is probably uninformed and/or is bereft of ideas. This arrant nonsense coming from Comrade Osodeke is totally unacceptable and condemnable.

The Management calls on Professor Osodeke to toe the path of honour by retracting the provocative remark and tender an unreserved apology without further delay.

GOVERNOR ABUBAKAR SANI BELLO IS NOT A CONTRACTOR WITH INEC, REFUTES NEWS ON RENEWING CONTRACT

In a statement sighted by KikioTolu News and signed by the CPS to the Governor, Mary Noel-Berje, he described such claims as false, malicious and misleading.

Governor Sani Bello said he is neither a contractor with the electoral umpire nor share ownership of a company with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate and former Governor of Lagos State Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He expressed concern on how some people have chosen to use social media platforms for negativity, making every efforts to malign the reputation of others.

The Governor who maintained that he worn Governorship election in Niger state twice without having to do any contract with INEC, wondered how something that has never existed can be renewed.

“I contested for Governorship and won in 2015 and I am now finishing my second term, all these without having any contract with the electoral umpire, how then can a contract that has never been done with someone be renewed?

“While it baffles me what the originator of this lie tends to achieve, it is really disturbing that some politicians have become desperate and are trading on dangerous paths in their quest for power and most worrisome are the people aiding in circulating unverified information”, he stated.

He enjoined the general public to disregard the information as it is completely false but rather remains focus and prepared for the 2023 general elections to vote for the right candidates and not desperate politicians.

Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti has received two newly completed TETFUND – sponsored projects in the university.

According to a statement by Bode Olofinmuagun, Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs state of the arts projects were a Medical ward at the university Health Centre and a 500 – seater capacity twin lecture theatre constructed for the Faculty of the Social Sciences.

The Vice chancellor Ekiti State University, Professor Edward Olanipekun, who received the keys from the contractors at the different sites, expressed his appreciation to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for its contributions to the infrastructural development of tertiary institutions in the country.

He thanked the contractors and consultants for the good quality of the projects, adding that the projects were adequately executed in accordance with the specifications given to them.

Professor Olanipekun, while receiving the key of the medical ward from Engineer Olajide Dada, the representative of Patibon Service Limited, appreciated the construction firm for its tolerance and promised that his administration would maintain a good relationship with TETFUND in order to continue to enjoy more Zonal interventions from the Agency.

He also commended the good job done at the newly completed Faculty of the Social Sciences 500 seaters lecture theatre.

According to the Vice Chancellor, “This lecture theater is still the best in the University as at today and can be compared with other facilities in advanced countries”.

He assured that his administration would leave behind good legacies, while also charging the beneficiaries to make best use of the facilities.
In their separate remarks, the Director of Health Services, Dr Gboyega Olaiya and the Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences, Professor Ariyo Awe, thanked the Vice Chancellor for his passion to ensure the overall development of the institution and promised that they would make best use of the facilities.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Ekiti state have arrested three kidnap suspects inside a deep forest.

The suspect who are not indigenes of the South Western state were nabbed in collaboration of local vigilantes.

As part of the deliberate effort of the Command to get the State rid of kidnappers and other criminal elements, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with the vigilantes, trailed and arrested three(3) suspected kidnappers inside a deep forest in Ijan-Ekiti.

In a statement signed by the police command and sighted by KikioTolu News, the arrested suspects are ABDULLAHI MUSA '38yrs', ABDULLAHI ALI '25yrs' and ABDULLAHI SULEIMAN '19yrs'.

The suspects during interrogation, confessed to have been engaged in series of kidnapping operations in Ekiti State including two kidnapping incidents in Ikere-Ekiti.

They further disclosed their syndicate comprises seven(7) men with four others currently at large. Effort is ongoing for the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects.

The National Industrial Court, Abuja has directed for immediate reinstatement of two dismissed Senior staff of the National Examinations Council (NECO) on ground that the action was taken while the matter was before the court.

The dismissed senior staff of NECO, Mr. Charles Berje and Dr. Anthonia Utoh through their counsel, Job Okebe in motion had prayed the court for an order of reinstatement of his clients.

Their counsel had also prayed the court for an order of mandatory injunction restraining the defendant from taking any further steps in the matter pending determination of the substantive suit.

Specifically, the Claimants were in court asking the court to restrain the Defendants from dismissing them and all the parties were joined in issues, yet the defendant went ahead to terminate the employment of the 1st Claimant and dismissed the 2nd Claimant.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, Justice Justice O.Y. Anuwe ordered immediate reinstatement of the two dismissed staff .

The trial judge held that in law since the matter is in court none of the parties is expected to take any further action or decision that would jeopardize the court process.

Her Lordship held that once parties submit themselves to the jurisdiction of the court as they have done in this case, none of them should be allowed to do anything that may foist on the court a situation of hopelessness.

Justice Awune states that the action of the defendant showed a clear disrespect for the court having gone ahead to dismiss the staff while the matter is still pending in court.

Recalled The court had in its earlier judgement delivered on February 25, 2022 ordered the defendants to strictly comply with the Public Service Rules by giving equal and fair opportunities to all eligible and qualified staff of the Council, including the claimants, in the suit marked, NICN/MN/06/2021 to participate in the exercise.

The court had also in its judgement set aside the said promotion examination, which was held without the names of the claimants, who were eligible for the examination but were unlawfully excluded.

However, while the substantive suit was in the process the defendant went ahead and terminated the appointment of the 1st & 2nd claimants on the ground of having absconded from their duty.

In Tuesday’s ruling the trial judge ordered the defendant (NECO) to reinstate the claimants and warned against undermining the authority of the court.

Meanwhile the main suit has adjourned to October 24 for hearing.

Following bandits' attack on a mining site in Ajata Aboki Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has ordered the immediate suspension of all mining activities in Shiroro, Munya, and Rafi Local Government Areas of the State over continued bandits’ attacks until further notice.

A statement issued by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, indicated that the decision to suspend mining activities become necessary as a result of escalating insecurity in those areas in recent times.

It is observed that these mining sites now attract or even accommodate criminals with prospective threats to security of lives and property, the statement stressed.

The SSG warned that any mining operator caught engaging in mining activities in the areas mentioned would face the full wrath of the law.

According to Ahmed Matane, “the State Government has directed security agencies in the State to profile all mining sites in the affected Local Governments with a view to ascertaining their genuineness”.

He assured the people of the State that Government would not scale down pressure on the armed bandits, kidnappers, cattle rustlers, and other criminal elements until they were flushed out of the state.

Ahmed Matane urged the people of the State to be security conscious and report all suspicious characters, movements, or objects in their communities to security agents.

POPULAR FULANI MAN ARRESTED IN EKITI AS POLICE UNMASK NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPER

The NPF is being hailed by Ekiti residents after the arrest of a prominent Fulani man, Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris.

A report by the police and sighted by KikioTolu News, revealed that the Sarkin Fulani in Ekiti state and his family were responsible for multiple kidnappings in their axis.

Two kidnap kingpins were arrested by the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekti State Police Command, namely Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris and Ibrahim Mumini Toyin.

According to spokes person for the command, DSP Sunday Abutu “The duo coordinated numerous highprofile kidnappings in Ekiti including the kidnapping of one Adeeko Ademola and Nasiru Salisu at Adamsy Sawmill, Aisegba-Ekiti.

“The Command Rapid Response Squad in synergy with the vigilantes, acting on credible intelligence, arrested the duo.

“During interrogation, Ibrahim Mumini Toyin confessed to the commission of the crime and claimed that the dastardly act of kidnapping and murder of one of the two victims was carried out by himself and four(4) others who are children of Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris and are currently at large. He further confessed that Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris is their kingpin, adding that the ransom collected from their victims was used to purchase cattle by Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris to increase his herd of cattle.

“Ibrahim Mumini Toyin disclosed that his own share of the ramsom allegedly paid was used to purchase cattle for him by Alhaji Abashe Adamu Idris.

“Suspects are in custody undergoing interrogation and will be arraigned after the conclusion of investigation.

The Ikeja Special Offences Court's administrative handling of the celebrated case against Ismail Mustapha aka Mompha, has been found operating below accepted court administrative standards.

Mompha was arrested on January 10 by the EFCC but was arraigned and granted bail.

However, the defendant has failed to appear in court on two scheduled dates for his trial, leading to Justice Mojisola Dada, revoking his bail and issuing a bench warrant for his arrest, on the 22nd of June 2022.

Documents sighted by our reporter has now revealed how the court actually wrongly handled the surety documents in the case.

Justice Dada had in the last sitting adjourned the case until June 16, 2022, for further consideration on the bail application and ordered the defendant to be in the custody of the defense counsel.

Mompha’s bail was granted to the learned silk and his counsel, Gboyega Oyewole, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

A maladministration error by the court clerk (Da Silva), left the previous surety’s names (which includes Antony Akala, a PDP house of representative candidate) listed on the case.

Indeed, the surety’s had fulfilled the N25m cash obligation for Mompha’s bail, the order on the 10th of June, relieved them of it.

The error was only uncovered after the EFCC counsel, Mr Oyedepo, requested court documents, finding out that the surety’s didn’t sign for the release of Mompha.

We also sighted letters sent to the court by Antony Akala’s counsel, requesting a release from any form of encumbrances relating to the case.

Ekiti Kete, I will like to remind us all that no politician in this state is worth dying or killing for.

It is quite unfortunate that regardless of our technological advancement and access to global information, some youths are still willing to be used as destructive machinery.

Likewise, vile politicians have refused to shun electoral violence for good. This was evident in the recent clashes across the state.

It is important for us to note that despite them vying for the same post, the ruling class remain united at the top.

We must not be played. Our lives and that of others around us remain valuable.

Let us also learn to respect ourselves and desist from use of derogatory statements when addressing our peers.

Rather than being divided by the personal interest of the ruling class, we should remain united in our determination for the development and growth of our dear state.

Regardless of political affiliation, the youth of today need to partner, network and work together towards their collective development.
