Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti has announced the resumption of academic activities as newly admitted students are set to resume on Monday, 23rd of November 2020.

This was made known in a recently released statement by Bode Olofinmuagun, the Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs.

The management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti has directed all newly admitted students for the 2019/2020 academic session to resume for academic activities on Monday, 23rd November, 2020.
In a Press Release signed by the Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Mr Bode Olofinmuagun, the students are expected complete their registration exercise and resume for other academic activities.
According to the Release, all pre-degree, diploma and 100 level students of the university are expected to be on campus as from Monday, 23rd November, 2020.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun has assured parents, guardians and all the returning students of adequate COVID-19 precautions and protocols which have been put in place by the university management.
All returning students are hereby advised to take personal COVID-19 precautions by ensuring that they have their face masks and hand sanitizers with them at all times on campus.
The Vice Chancellor wishes all the students safe travels.

There is an ongoing bank robbery in Iyin-Ekiti, a town close to the state capital, Ado Ekiti.

According to reports reaching us at KikioTolu News, the robbery is ongoing at a WEMA bank branch in the town.

There have been sporadic shootings leading to tension in the community.

The police is yet to confirm the incident, and several calls put to the police PPRO by Ekiti Progress Update were not answered.

In his reaction to the purported suspension of Governor Kayode Fayemi by an unknown group, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, described it as a joke taken too far.


Oyebode said the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party is governed by laws, adding that members of the group cannot hide under their recent suspension to announce a dubious suspension they lack the locus to handle.

While one would have dismissed their claims as another failed attempt to polarise the party in the state, it is also important to put it on record that the action of the group smacks of criminal impersonation as none of those who signed the purported suspension letter were executive members of the party at ward, Local government or state level.

The action is but a joke taken too far as they never had such power they want to arrogate to themselves while they were members of the party, much less now that they have been suspended.

Governor Fayemi however remains unperturbed by this antics of suspended members.

Well meaning members of the public as well as members of APC are urged to disregard the news of the purported suspension as it only exists in the imagination of members of the group.

Dr Kayode Fayemi remains the indisputable leader of the APC in the state.

Freelance journalist, Oluwatosin Adeshokan, has penned down an apology to all the young girls he sexually harassed in the past, as he felt it was all sexual banter.

Kiki Mordi had yesterday accused the freelance journalist whose works have been published in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, VICE, CNN, Quartz, The Africa Report and more of being a sex predator who harasses young girls.

Taking to her Twitter page, Kiki Mordi claimed Oluwatosin Adeshokan, pretends to be “asexual” just to gain women’s trust before taking advantage of them.

In response to Kiki Mordi’s post, many ladies came forward revealing the inappropriate chats he had with them, as a teenager revealed he once sent her his dick pics.

Early this morning, Oluwatosin Adeshokan took to his Twitter page to pen an apology to his victims, as he said he was truly sorry for making some people feel uncomfortable.

Taking full responsibility for his behaviour, he stated that he deeply regrets those conversations and hoped they go away with time.

First City Monument Bank [FCMB] sustained new strengths in operations in the second quarter despite the challenges of the Covid-19 economic lockdown. The bank kept all the growth levers up from the closing levels in 2019.

The addition of new strengths and retention of some key capabilities of the preceding year constitutes the operating advantage for the bank this year. It is maintaining the elevated revenue outlook seen in the first quarter, which is happening for the first time since 2017.

Both interest and non-interest incomes are contributing to revenue improvement but non-interest earnings keep leading the way. Against a drop of 11 percent in 2019, non-interest income grew by 13 percent year-on-year at half-year ended June 2020.

Interest income is still accelerating from 4 percent at the end of last year to 8 percent at half-year though slowing down from 15 percent growth in the first quarter. This remains the highest growth rate in interest income for the bank at any time since 2014.

The good behavior of interest expenses seen in the first quarter improved to better in the second quarter. From a moderated growth of 4 percent in the first quarter, interest expenses proceeded to a 3 percent decline year-on-year at half-year. Accelerating interest income and a decline in interest expenses enabled an increase of 17 percent in net interest income from less than 5 percent improvement at the end of 2019.

This marks the first reasonable improvement in revenue the bank is seeing since 2017. Last year ended with only a 2 percent increase in gross income to a little over N181 billion. Revenue growth at half-year represents the highest in four years.

The retained strength in revenue is keeping the bottom line on the upbeat at which the bank began the year in the first quarter. Profit improvement remains quite good at 29 percent year-on-year for FCMB at half-year – still one of the best growth records in the banking sector. This is an accelerating growth from the 16 percent profit improvement at the end of 2019.

The ability to convert revenue into profit improved both on a year-on-year basis and from the 2019 closing mark. At the end of half-year, the net profit margin stretched out from 8.4 percent in the same period last year and from 9.5 percent at the end of 2019 to 10 percent. This is a step back however from 11 percent in the first quarter but yet remains the highest net profit margin for the bank since 2015.

The bank’s operating strength for the 2020 financial year is anchored on growing revenue and improving profit margin. The strength to grow profit more than two and a half times as fast as revenue at half-year points to a reasonable cost saving achieved by management. This came from a decline in interest expenses and a moderated operating cost during the period.

The loss in the first quarter of a key strength of last year – which is a drop in net loan impairment expenses for the third straight year, remained in place at half-year. Loan loss expenses rose by close to 41 percent to N7.8 billion at the end of June 2020. The increase follows an increase of 13 percent in the loan portfolio last year and by another 10 percent over the first half of the current financial year to N795 billion.

Half-year operations ended with gross earnings of slightly over N98 billion for FCMB, an accelerated growth from 2.3 percent at the end of 2019 to 9 percent year-on-year. This marks the first reasonable improvement in revenue since 2017.

An improvement of 8 percent in interest income to over N76 billion is one of the new strengths for FCMB in 2020. This reflects the expansion of earning assets with loans and advances growing by N80 billion over the 2019 closing figure of N715 billion and investments rising by N60 billion to N300 billion over the same period. The second is a rebound in non-interest earnings that were a drag for the bank last year to N22 billion at the end of half-year.

At slightly N30.8 billion, interest expenses improved further its disciplined behavior – declining by 3 percent against an increase of 4 percent in the first quarter. The share of interest income devoted to interest expenses went down from 45 percent to 40 percent over the review period. The result is an increase of 17 percent in net interest income to over N45 billion at half-year.

FCMB closed the half-year operations in June 2020 with an after-tax profit of N9.7 billion, an increase of 29 percent year-on-year. The bank is maintaining the path of growing profit for the third consecutive year since it lost 40 percent of profit in 2017.

Earnings per share amounted to 49 kobo at the end of half-year operations, improving from 38 kobo per share in the same period last year.

The ability to maintain an elevated performance in earnings through the economic lockdown in the second quarter is a bullish point for FCMB going forward to the second half. The bank is expected to retain the key strengths of growing revenue, moderating interest expenses, and improving profit margin to stay the course of rebuilding profit for the third straight year in 2020.

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, today announced a $50 million loan to Nigeria’s First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited to help it expand lending to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) so they can sustain business activities disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The loan, made through IFC’s COVID-19 fast-track financing support package, reflects IFC’s commitment to Nigeria’s private sector following the severe challenges brought by the health and economic crisis. The funds will allow FCMB to support hundreds of businesses with trade financing and working capital loans.

FCMB’s Chief Executive, Adam Nuru, said, "IFC’s loan facility will allow us to keep credit flowing to SMEs as well as corporate companies across all sectors of Nigeria’s economy, including in the health, pharmaceutical, food and trading industries.”

IFC’s Country Manager for Nigeria, Eme Essien Lore, said, “Supporting financial institutions like FCMB is vital to keeping smaller businesses solvent, saving jobs, and limiting economic damage in the face of a challenge as formidable as COVID-19. Although Nigeria has a strong and dynamic private sector, it needs liquidity now to ensure it remains viable during and after COVID-19.”

The executive governor of Kwara State, Mr Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said that the National Youth Service Corps is a leading impetus in the war against the deadly coronavirus, COVID-19 in the country.

The Governor said this earlier today through the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi who also doubles as the chairman of the technical committee on COVID-19 , while receiving Hand Sanitizers, Antiseptic Liguid Soap and other surge materials produced by NYSC Kwara to support the state in the war against the pandemic.

Governor Abdulrazaq said the efforts of the scheme since the COVID-19 broke out is a catalyst in the fight against the global pandemic.

Governor Abdulrazaq therefore appreciated the scheme as a front liner in the fight against corona virus, and promised to make judicious use of the items donated by the patriotic corps members.

The State Coordinator of NYSC Kwara state, Mrs Francisca Olaleye, who led the team in the presentation of the items elucidated the fact that the Director-General and management of the scheme have been supporting and complementing the efforts of the government at all levels in the fight against the pandemic.

The National Youth Service Corps, Kwara State produced hand sanitizers, antiseptic liquid soap as part of the effort of the scheme in curtailing the spread of Corona virus in the state.  


The State Coordinator,  NYSC Kwara, Mrs Francisca Olaleye commended the Director-General of the scheme , Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim and management of the scheme for their support in ensuring that the intellectual capabilities of the corps member's coupled with the training in  Cosmetology through Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development is put to bear in curtailing the spread of the deadly virus .


 Corps members in the state also embarked on sensitization and distribution of the items led by the state coordinator .This she assured will be done on regular basis  in solidarity   with the people and government of the state  during this  period of war against the hydra-headed virus.


She added that the National Youth Service Corps has also prepared the orientation camp at Yikpata as an isolation centre in collaborating with government against the global pandemic.  


Mrs Olaleye implored the people to cooperate with the government in the fight against the virus by total submission to the laid down directive. According to her,

healthy living of the people is the major priority of the NYSC Scheme.

The National Youth Service Corps, Kwara State today started the 2020 batch A orientation course lecture series at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Yikpata, Kwara State, with sensitization of Corps Members on Coronavirus, CONVID-19.


While declaring the lecture open, the State Coordinator NYSC Kwara, Mrs Francisca Olaleye stated that the sensitization is part of the effort put in place by the scheme to avert the deadly disease in the orientation camp.


Mrs Olaleye stated that the scheme has prioritised the safety of all corps members for safe healthy living in the service year. She reiterated that the hand sanitizers have been put in all strategic places on camp and therefore enjoined Corps Members and all other members of camp community to make use of it every time.


The State Coordinator who cautioned all members of the camp community to be conscious of unnecessary panic , however advised them to make sure to immediately report to the camp management any noticeable form of discomfort person around them.


Meanwhile, the guest lecturer for the sensitization on CONVID 19 who also doubles as medical Consultant at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Dr. Olaitan Dele allayed the fears of corps members on the issue of virus.


Dr Dele listed the symptoms of the CONVID-19 to be Fever, abdominal pains, cough amongst others . He therefore advised them to approach camp clinic anytime they notice any of such symptoms.


He also stated some preventive measures for the virus. He said the Corps Members should endeavour to be washing their hands frequently with the strategic placed sanitizer on camp.


The doctor further advised them to avoid unnecessary handshake and try as much as possible to cover both their mouths and noses while coughing.


He further enlightened that the virus can only survive for ten minutes outside the host and therefore affirmed that using alcoholic sterilizer to rub hands immediately after handshake is also a proper way to avert contacting the virus.

The National Youth Service Corps today swore in about 2000 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Yikpata Camp, Edu L.G.A for 2020 Batch A Stream I orientation exercise.


The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alh. Abdulrazak Abdulrahman who was represented by the Special Adviser on Investment Alh. Kabir Shagaya officially declared the orientation exercise open and encouraged camp officials including Corps Members to ensure their stay in Yikpata camp is fulfilling and productive.


The Governor also advised the Corps Members to imbibe the spirit of unity and exhibit a profound act of discipline and dedication in the course of orientation.


The Governor who described the state as peaceful also enjoined them to take advantage of the various traditional lectures that would be holding in the camp to learn the way and culture of the people of the State for peaceful coexistence between them and their various host communities.


While inspecting camp facilities, Governor promised to improve on the on going developmental process in the camp and further assured them the readiness of his administration to further the lot of the scheme in the state.


The Governor also commended the new state coordinator of the scheme in the state and described her as a woman who is driven by great zeal for development.


Meanwhile the State Coordinator of NYSC Kwara state, Mrs Francisca Olaleye appreciated the State government for the support she enjoyed within the short period as a state coordinator in the state.


Mrs Olaleye however made a compassionate appeal to the government for the perimeter fencing of the camp, more hostels and restrooms for both Corps Members and the camp officials.
She also appealed to the State government for the payment of stipends to corps members in the public sector, most especial those that are serving in the government schools.


The coordinator disclosed that the scheme has taken a preventive measure on coronavirus, CONVID 19 by provision of sanitizers and special medical personnel on camp .


She, therefore, enjoined corps members to make use of the sanitizer in various strategic points in the camp and report anyone who is suspected to have unusual sneezing habit on camp.


She added that in the course of the orientation exercise , provision has been put in place to sensitize corps members on the CONVID 19 and possible preventive ways to avert it.

It is worthy of note that the oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Hammed Gegele representing His Lordship, the Chief Judge of Kwara state.

Egypt has just confirmed the first coronavirus case in the country, becoming the first known person on the African continent to have contracted the virus.

The US Embassy in Nigeria has stated that they did not deny the Visa application of Bishop Oyedepo, as earlier reported.

In the early ours of Friday January 31, 2020, multiple reports indicated that the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide a.k.a Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo joined the list of popular figures in Nigeria being denied the US visa.

ThisDay reported that Bishop Oyedepo told the Embassy’s authorities that he has been traveling to the United States since the 1980s, and wondered why his renewal was denied.

A lecturer of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), identified as, Mr Tene John, has been accused of sexual harassment by his student.

The lady simply identified as Habibi, took to her Instagram page to make the claims, stating that the alleged assault took place in his office.

According to her, Mr Tene began to assault her once she was alone with him in his office, and only left her when she promised to let him have his way on a later date.

She was later called to a panel days after the experience, and narrated all that happened, but to her surprise, nothing has been done about the assault.

Nigerian rapper, Olamide has allegedly gotten married to his longtime girlfriend, Bukunmi Aisha, this is coming after she changed her last name on Instagram.

We can all recall that the couple have been engaged since 2018, after Olamide Adedeji, proposed to her.

The couple have been together for almost 8 years now, and welcomed their first son, Maximiliano Adedeji in 2015.

It seems their relationship has taken a huge turn now, as they might just be legally married.

One of the biggest cultural tourism events in Nigeria, the Ekiti State Cultural Festival (EKIFEST2019), was opened in grand style earlier today, by the state Governor, John Kayode Fayemi.

The event which saw colourful displays by various Nigerian tribes, was well attended by digniteries from across the federation.

EKIFEST2019 which carries the theme, ‘Arts and Culture: Tools for restoration of values and socio-economic empowerment’, was opened earlier today by Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State.

Governor Fayemi who revealed plans of the state government to invest in culture and tourism stated that a new ministry of culture would be created.

Speaking at the event, the Director General, Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, stated that the event was not just for people to dance and celebrate, but also showcase how our culture can be turned into an economic engagement. Speaking with EkitiReporters, he said;

“Ekiti people should expect resuscitation and showcasing of our cultural values, and festivals that are unique to Ekiti state. We are placing all this in the global perspective and platform, so people can appreciate, embrace, and also to lure them to come and invest in the state. We are bringing out all our indigenous occupations so as to turn them into an economic engagement.”

“We are moving from just mere entertainment to empowerment and economic development. We are using culture to develop the economy of our people, we are not just coming here to parade and dance but also to make money.”

The EKIFEST2019 continues with traditional poetry, traditional games and sports, visit to Ikogosi Warm Springs, colloquium/workshops, fashion show, among other things.

…Gov Fayemi’s foresightedness through the enabling of Youths in Commercial Agriculture Development in 2012 steadily yields fruition.

In 2019, through his Office, Governor Kayode Fayemi inaugurated the Management and Board of Trustees (B.O.T) for YCAD.

YCAD President, a young and dynamic Agripreneur, Mr. Sanya Fabiyi in the company of; the President, O’dua Chamber of Commerce, Chief Kola Akosile and the Special Adviser, Social Investment, Barr. Victor Kolade (both members YCAD BOT) share their experience at the 2019 edition of Agra Innovate West Africa Exhibitions and Conference that held in Lagos State.

At the event, Fabiyi, who is also the Secretary to YCAD B.O.T., delivered an electrifying presentation on the opportunities for youths in Commercial Agriculture at the Opening Day of the event on Monday 25th Nov 2019.

According to him, YCAD was showcased as a National brand and institution that is fast becoming the landmark for providing Agribusiness Development Support services to youths and a platform for investment for global players from within and outside Nigeria.

A key highlight of the event was the YCAD Exhibition which perfectly showcased the efforts of His Excellency, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the Ekiti State Government in Agricultural transformation and most importantly the transformation of YCAD into a national Agribusiness brand that is making impact, the success stories of members and the several initiatives that has cemented YCAD in the agricspace through the creation of Agribusiness cooperative cells with a digital marketing hub that is running with modern trends.

“YCAD also had the floor on the closing day of the event on Tuesday 26th November, 2019 as a special feature "Demo Session" on farmers workshop featured the Youth in Commercial Agriculture Development initiative where some YCAD members shared their experiences and showcased Agr-products from YCAD Ekiti state such as; YCAD packaged locust beans, Garri, Orange fleshed Sweet Potato, Yam Setts, Animal feeds from Ekiti Empire (Sanya Farms) Feed Mill, Cocoa Seedlings, Cashew Seedlings, Oil Palm Seedlings, Plantain Flour, Plantain Chips, Sweet Potato Chips, Processed Fish, Palm Oil, Kolanut Seedlings, Plantain Sucker, and Orange fleshed Sweet Potato Vines (OFSP).

“These products were well packaged and branded with the YCAD logo. Indeed Agra-Innovate 2019 was a good place to showcase Ekiti state and the exploits of the Youths in Commercial Agriculture as evidenced by YCAD,” Fabiyi said.

Speaking on YCAD’s outing at AGRA-Innovate 2019, the Special Adviser to Ekiti State Government on Social Investment who is also on the Board of YCAD, Barrister Victor Olumuyiwa Kolade Esq. thanked the Programme Director of AGRA-Innovate Mrs. Folusho Olaniyan (OON) for projecting the shinning light of YCAD from Ekiti State into the international space.

“Our sincere appreciation to Dr. John Kayode Fayemi for supporting YCAD and providing the enabling environment for the YCAD Management under the leadership of Mr. Sanya Fabiyi (the President) to lead the Youths of Ekiti in the Agribusiness revolution and expand YCAD as a national brand to render Agribusiness Development Support services to Nigeria's Youths,” he said.

Chief Akosile also mentioned that there is a healthy collaboration between O’dua Chambers of Commerce and YCAD to strengthen the organization and further spread the tentacles of YCAD across other states of the federation as a means to support other youths into Commercial Agriculture.

Agra Innovate West Africa 2019 in partnership with Food West Africa was declared opened by Prince Gbolahan Lawal, Honourable Commissioner Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture.

...Ekiti son awarded RYLA 2019 PRIZE OF HONOUR FOR TECHNOLOGY

The Nigerian Youth Scene/Network is more than ever alive. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) an initiative of Rotary International that started in 1989 and operates globally to positively shape and prepare youths in various communities for leadership and success in their chosen endeavors awards carefully selected persons.

According to the Chairman, RYLA Prize of Honor is an initiative designed to identify and recognise whilst celebrating outstanding young individuals between the age of 14 to 30, who have demonstrated exceptional energy and skills in their chosen profession or area of interest/passion within various communities.

Ekiti indigene and Entrepreneur, Adaraniwon Oluwatosin (CEO Glimpse Nigeria), was amongst persons awarded the RYLA 2019 Prize his category of award is Honour for Technology in this year’s edition of the Awards. The recognition came following his illustrious engagement of youths in the State to make positive impacts through a series of mentorship and empowerment programmes.

The presentation ceremony held at the Opening Ceremony of the 35th Boot Camp at Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (Sea School), Apapa, Lagos on Sunday.

Oluwatosin was selected for the prestigious award following ratification by Rotary District 9110 through RYLA 2019 committee and its selection panel.

The Chairman RYLA 2019 Committee, Abiodun Oshinibosi said, “Your selection is a result of thorough research and review of your exemplary and outstanding strides in the field of focus regardless of the perceived economic challenges.”

Mr. Oshinibosi continued that beyond the recognition award, recipients will be further exposed to resources that can help horn or support their respective interests. “For this maiden edition, our period of focus will be 2013 to 2018 while subsequent editions will focus on the immediate previous year.

Winners in other categories are; Creative Director, Mimis Kreationz, Nwosu Mimmi Ginikachi (FASHION); Ace Comedian, Bayegun Oluwatoyin A.K.A AROLE (ENTERTAINMENT); Founder, House of Denny, Adenike Olatunji (ENTREPRENEURSHIP); CEO Tepebo Farm, Adeniyi Adenuga (AGRICULTURE); and CEO Dara Naturals, Dara Amanda (CREATIVITY).

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has received 200kg of cannabis which was seized by the Ekiti State Peace Corps, on the 20th of November 2019.

The Operations Unit of Ekiti State Peace Corps while on a routine field operation yesterday led by State Commandant, Hon. Dele Owoju, apprehended 200 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa (also known as marijuana) worth millions of Naira from syndicates who cultivates the banned substance around Omuo and Isinbode areas of the state.

According to Dele Owoju, the operations team were hinted about the cannabis plantation via intelligence report, and on arriving the location, the suspected syndicates who were transporting the cannabis absconded at the sight of the security agency, leaving the goods behind. He said;

“We have been trailing the information reaching us about the operations of the syndicates for over a month now and through our intelligence gathering, we discovered the location we are likely to intercept the contraband which worked according to perfectly with our and research.”

The Deputy State Commander (Operations & Intelligence) of NDLEA, Ofila Samson accompanied by his officials, received the substance from the envoy of the State Government.

Ekiti State Governor, John Kayode Fayemi, has just been adjudged the best performing governor on domestication of Women Rights Instruments in Nigeria as his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi was also acknowledged for Social Gender balance in the state.

The Governor in just about one year in Office, has been awarded best performing Governor in the country in key areas of Women Rights and social development. The award was conferred by the Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline K. Tallen, OFR.

In a letter signed by the Honourable Minister, the award is conferred on Governor Fayemi on the laudable milestone taken in the domestication of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act 2015 which confirms Ekiti State as the first to harmonise the Gender Based Law with the domestication of Women Rights Instruments in Nigeria.
