There was mild drama earlier today after Arsenal Captain, Xhaka told fans to Bleep off while he was being subbed off in the game against Crystal Palace.

As the game seemed to be slipping away from their grip, Unai Emery decided to bring on youngster, Saka.

Xhaka was to give way for the youngster, and he seemed to be taking forever before leaving the pitch. This didn’t go down well with many Arsenal fans who responded by booing him.

Xhaka first cupped his ears ‘can’t hear you’ then responded to the crowd by telling them to Bleep Off & took off his Arsenal shirt then goes down the tunnel.

Ekiti-kete, it is exactly one year today, that I took the oath of office as the sixth (6th) democratically elected governor of our dear State, Ekiti.

You laid the path for a new beginning in Ekiti State on July 14, 2018 when you freely elected me as your Governor but your journey of faith with me started, for the second term, on Thursday, October 16, 2018.

Today marks the first anniversary of the journey. First anniversary of the day we all heaved a sigh of relief. The day that marked the beginning of values, dignity and honour restoration. The day that further consolidated our democracy and opened a new chapter in the practice of good governance in Ekiti State.

First of all, I thank God almighty for His mercy, grace and favour over us as a state, people and government.

On behalf of the government, I thank our revered traditional and religious leaders, members of our party, the APC and indeed all politicians in Ekiti State, civil servants, civil society organizations, labour unions, farmers, artisans, and market men and women for the abiding support we have enjoyed over the past one year.

I thank Ekiti-kete most sincerely for your benevolence of this second term. My team and I appreciate and cherish your support, understanding, patience, endurance, suggestions, constructive criticisms and above all, your prayers.

You will recall that I gave the assurance during my inauguration that my agenda was to unify all Ekiti people irrespective of status, religious creed, and political affiliations. I did promise that my second coming would be used to heal the wounds of the past, calm fray nerves and galvanise our people along the path of economic progress and prosperity for all.

It is gratifying to note that the mood of uncertainty that pervaded our State when we took off is gradually giving way to optimism and strong belief in the capacity of government to provide purposeful leadership -leadership that serves as an enabler and a purveyor of rapid social re-engineering, economic prosperity and political stability- all within the space of one year.

The successful democratic transition that ushered in this administration last year has re-ignited the hope of our citizens. Our people are now conscious of the fact that the enthronement of good government that places their common interest above personal or parochial interest is the only way to truly enjoy good governance that guarantees better standard of living.



After one year of being in the saddle, again, evidence abound that we are, indeed, walking the talk, restoring values and enhancing impact. An account of my stewardship for the past twelve months will be rendered today and will be broadcast to you live from the hallowed chamber of Ekiti State House of Assembly.

I came back this second time to further reinforce our collective commitment to actualizing the Ekiti State of our dream. A State where the people would be able to deploy their intellectual resources in any chosen sphere for the collective good of the state without let or hindrance. A State where every man or woman, old or young, educated or illiterate, will have access to a fair share in its prosperity. A State that will accord every man and treat every resident with dignity. When I look back at the first 365 days in office, my heart is gladdened that a prosperous Ekiti State is springing anew from the ashes of the ruins of the past.

As your Governor, I derive my joy, from your feedback, which daily confirms that, indeed, Ekiti people appreciate how we are managing the commonwealth that they entrusted into our hands. Our modest but steady progress excites me.

There is relative peace and tranquillity in the State, and above all, our people are happier. This attests to the fact that we are on the right path. We are determined to sustain this trend and soldier-on meticulously to implement our restoration agenda headlong.

We are not unmindful of the fact that a lot still need to be done and would be done. We are, however, clear in our vision of a better tomorrow, a tomorrow that all sons and daughters of Ekiti State will be proud of, irrespective of political affiliations.

For the umpteenth time, I reassure you all that you are our treasured and greatest assets, and we are committed to treating you as such. I use the occasion of this first anniversary to rededicate myself to serving your best interests at all times.



As we continue to work towards the prosperous future of our dreams, permit me to congratulate all of us, not only for the time we have spent in government but also for the path we have laid, the milestones we have covered and for plans we have mapped out.

Once again, I thank you for your patriotism, and the courage you have demonstrated as well as for your unflinching support on our collective quest to make our dear state, Ekiti, a pride of all.

We are on the right path, making the best of the opportunity given to us and managing our collective commonwealth with best of intents, all in the paramount interest of Ekiti-kete and generations yet unborn. As the journey continues, we cannot do it alone, we are still counting on your support and tolerance, while we as the government will remain steadfast in our efforts at bringing more developmental programmes to you all.

Commuters scampered for safety earlier this morning as commercial drivers clashed in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital of Ekiti.

According to reports reaching us at EkitiReporters, the drivers who were seen wielding dangerous weapons attacked each other physically, while also damaging vehicles.

The cause of the drivers union clash still remains largely unknown, though commuters are advised to avoid Okeyimi, Old garage and Ijigbo axis, at the moment till men of the police force can restore calm.

This is coming after a violent clash among members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) claimed one life in Igogo-Ekiti, in Moba Local Government area of Ekiti State, late last month.

Ekiti state Governor, John Kayode Fayemi, has granted clemency to 18 prisoners in the Nigerian Correctional Services facilities in Ado Ekiti and Kirikiri Maximum, Lagos State.

This was made known in a statement by the Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda.

The statement revealed that the 18 prisoners were granted clemency by the state governor after the Ekiti State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy considered 50 applications for clemency at its third sitting.

The applications of these beneficiaries were said to have been granted because they individually demonstrated the potential to turn their lives around.

The Ekiti state government has approved the payment of the new N30,000 (Thirty Thousand Naira) minimum wage to workers.

This was made known by the state Governor, John Kayode Fayemi, at Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado Ekiti on Saturday during the 2019 celebration of the Teachers’ Day.

According to Governor Fayemi, the state government would begin the implementation of the new minimum wage of N30,000 from this month (October 2019).

He revealed that the decision to implement the new minimum wage was predicated on the need to improve the living standard of workers. He said;

“We will commence payment of N30,000 to workers in Ekiti with effect from this month. We are determined to reward diligence because the workers, particularly our teachers have done the state proud.

“In this year’s WAEC, Ekiti was ranked 12th. I want to salute our teachers but that is not where Ekiti belonged, we must continually do more to rise to number one.”

A student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Akindele Justina Temitayo, has been crowned Miss Ekiti 2019.

Akindele Justina Temitayo who is a second year student of History and International Relations defeated 20 other finalists to wear the 2019 Miss Ekiti crown.

The winner, expressed how she felt being crowned the winner of the pageantry contest.

“I felt good, very very good. I was actually crying. I am super happy”, She said.

Alongside being crowned the winner; Akindele Justina Temitayo also won a car, a year wardrobe allowance, a trip to Dubai and a well furnished office in Ado Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has met with the management of the Federal University Oye- Ekiti (FUOYE), over the September 10 crisis which led to the death of two students of the institution.

The Governor , at the meeting, vowed to get to the root of the incident, with a view to ensuring that such does not re- occur again.

Addressing the management of the institution at the Governor's office Ado- Ekiti, on Friday, the Governor stated that the crisis might have resulted from communication gap between the students and the school management .

Fayemi who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon.Biodun Omoleye, said the unfortunate incident was avoidable if the students had channeled their agitation to the school authority who could have taken up the matter and appropriately resolved it.

The Governor however condoled with the school management and the families of the two students that were killed.

In his remarks, FUOYE's Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fashina said the ugly incident could have been avoided if the students had not regrouped after having demonstrated in the morning.

"They shouldn't have regrouped in the afternoon.It happened outside the University. I was still in the office working.The student Union leaders told the Commissioner of Police that they wanted to do a guided protest," he said.

The woman who stole a two month old baby at the state Secretariat in Ado Ekiti three days ago has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force.

The woman was arrested late yesterday night by members of the public through the assistance of an Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense corps at Odo Aremu, Oke Oriomi area of Ado Ekiti while attempting to sneak out of town with the baby.

During interrogation, the woman claimed that she hailed from Benin, Edo State but resides in Lagos, Lagos State.
According to her, she stole the baby from the mother because she was in dare need of a male child.

Animal Identification System: How Western Nigeria can Champion a Massive Economic Development through the Livestock Industry – Ibrahim Maigari

Excerpts from an interview with Ibrahim Maigari Ahmadu, Founder/CEO, Livestock247.com


Channels TV, through its Sunrise Daily Programme, had a guest discuss on the cattle trade and Federal Government’s Multi-faceted approach to solving the Livestock industry’s challenges and its issue of national identity. What is your take being a stakeholder in the beef sector?


“We are business concerned and don’t want to get involved in the politics of livestock development as this will only promote hate and division among our people. We are committed and focused on the business development of livestock farming in Nigeria. While others may see it as a problem, we are creating opportunities for the people to get involved in the business of livestock to diversify the nation’s economy.


“The National Livestock Transformation plan of the Federal Government, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is not like any other agenda being discussed such as the Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) settlements and as a stakeholder, whatever agenda that will lead to the development of the sector, is of my concern. The people need to understand the concepts of production and consumption of livestock. The programme is built on about five pillars but I will explain one to mention a few. One of the strongest pillars is Conflict Resolution and Economic Diversification.


“The root cause of Nomadic Herders and Farmers clash majorly is the competition of scarce resources (water and grass). Predominantly, the Fulani tribes are usually the ones identified with this act. The Fulani man is going round, looking for free grass to feed the animals and in the process ravaged a farmland. The farmers therefore clashes with the herdsmen.


“One thing to also note is the time or season of the year when these clashes occour. This happen during the dry season in the northern part and the herdsmen often take their cows down south in search of food and water. Also, there is a whole lot of deforestation exercise going on in the region which forces the cattle herders down south. Insurgency in the North East, rural banditry in the North West and a host of other factors necessitated a national transhumance in recent years.


“Citing some very important perspectives, the rain stops in the north around October/November every year and the Fulani herders move their cattle down south in search of grass and water. Mind you, a cow consumes over a 100litres of water in a day and these farmers must have started cultivating their various farmlands therefore causing serious clash.


“Moving to the south, the herdsmen pass through the North Central, navigating towards Akwa Ibom and heading to the west to Ikorodu where they can find as many sites as possible to feed their cattle.


“Now that we have identified a problem, it will be much easier to reflect on possible solutions. Nomadic Pastoralism is not sustainable in Nigeria or anywhere in the world. The Federal Government, through the Federal Executive Council, drafted the National Livestock Transformation plan to carefully look into how to develop the sector and make it a multi-billion dollar sector and this I believe will fight against the issues militating the livestock business in the country.


“We as an entity are interested in the business of livestock development. The livestock sector is a multibillion business globally and it is not accustomed to the Fulanis alone. There are several other places around the world where you will find people doing the business of cattle rearing. To get into the business, all you need to do is consider the technicalities of the business, show some love and care to the cattle by feeding them regularly alongside veterinary attention. We have been doing a lot to sensitise Nigerians on the business of livestock.

The Lagos State Example

“Lagos State is the largest consumer of livestock in sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria owns over 43 percent of the livestock population in West Africa and that is about over 50 million of them. According to an official statistics, Nigeria is in control of over 20 million cattle. 60 percent of this population of the cattle resides in the North Eastern part of the country and based on the International Livestock Institute report, 95 percent of these cattle are owned by people who control pastoralism.


“It is an open industry for all and any smart business man should key into the opportunity. Without Lagos, the entire population of the livestock in Sub-Saharan Africa will suffer. Following a statistics of concession and unregistered abattoirs that was given to us by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture over three years ago, Lagos consumes over 6,000 cows a day.


“Last Year, we commissioned a consultant to do our own survey so as to ascertain the statistics given to us by Lagos State government. We discovered that there are four livestock Control Centres in Nigeria based on the Animal Disease Act of 1988. These Centres are supposed to control the transportation and assessment of livestock in Nigeria. One of the centres is in Makurdi in Benue State, one is in Nassarawa State. The two most popular ones are Lokoja in Kogi and Jebba in Kwara states. We calculated the number of cattle trucks passing these routes on a daily basis. 60 percent of the trucks passing through Lokoja are certainly heading to Lagos while 20 percent goes to the South East and the remaining 20 heads for the South South. The trucks heading through Mokwa-Jebba certainly circulates the South West. In one week, we recorded one thousand four hundred and fifty eight trucks of only cows with a truck carrying an average of 33 cows and that gives us a total of 38 thousand cows transported within a week to the South.


“Ordinarily, a cow costs an average of N150, 000. So if we calculate that that amount in the values of 38 thousand cows, that gives us a sum of Seven Billion Two million Naira in a week. It is now clear that certainly, the production of cattle comes from the north while the consumption takes place in the south but this does not restrict any Nigerian from doing the business of livestock. This is why the government and stakeholders are trying to consolidate the production and the consumption market for collective economy development of the nation.


“We are presently working to ensure this industry is open for participation and that is why we are championing the cause for an innovative business pattern for livestock. We are also working in line with government's 6-point plan to end herders-farmers crisis, aside encouraging economic investment by encouraging private sector participation in the production and structuring of livestock market in Nigeria.”


How viable is the Animal Identification System in Nigeria and how many states are currently running on the scheme?


“We now have an Animal Identification System where all livestock can be checked. This platform looks forward to transforming livestock business on two premises; firstly, the World Organisation of Animal Health Countries (OIE) report that says 60 per cent of existing human infectious diseases were transmitted from animals. The platform would also mitigate the spread of zoonotic diseases with the listing of only fit-for-slaughter and traceable livestock on the platform.


“The OIE, UNFAO, WCO and the International Standard Organisation all came together to formulate regulations and protocol around ownership and movement of animals. For instance, if there’s an outbreak of animal disease in Nigeria, it is easily traceable to ensure control. The OIE has mandated all member-nations around the world including Nigeria to establish an Animal Identification System. The OIE made a Pretoria Declaration in South Africa in 2015 and mandated all other African countries to adopt the system.

“We lobbied for a bill presented at the National Assembly which was sponsored by a Senator which succeeded in passing the first and second reading up till the public hearing in November 2017 to form the Animal Identification Bureau. This will help us have accurate data that would help create a sustainable agenda for the livestock business in Nigeria.


“We have interacted with some states in the country to carry out the Animal Identification System and one state that is seriously championing the cause is Lagos State being the largest consumer of livestock in Sub-Saharan Africa. We have also proposed to Niger, Katsina and Adamawa states to adopt the system. In the private sector, over 23 states applied to be part of the programme because it is flexible and private sector driven.


Will the impact of states bring about a solution to the national conflict on these issues and have you been in touch with the Nigerian Governors’ Forum or any other regional entity?


“We have made a presentation to the Northern Governors’ Forum about a year ago and we have also met with the Progressive Governors’ Forum subsequently to discuss the advantages of the scheme. I also delivered a paper at ECOWAS regional transhumance summit on proffering solutions to the farmer/herders clashes in West Africa and our technology was adopted at the regional summit in April 2018 and a host of other summits to ensure the sensitization.


“We believe that the South West have enormous potentials to drive this system and boost the business of livestock in Nigeria. The South West is largely the hub of livestock consumption and I believe several initiatives by the governments and private operators in the region will fast track the process of adoption of the system.”

Ekiti state Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has expressed sorrow over the death of two protesting FUOYE students, while also directing the police CP to investigate the killings.

Fayemi made this known in a recent state State wide Broadcast on the Violent Protest at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The Governor in the state wide broadcast conveyed his deeply felt sorrow over the loss of two students and for those who suffered injuries. He also went on to reveal that he has directed the State Commissioner of Police to urgently commence an investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate shooting incident.

He said:

“Having heard from all parties to the incident, it is pertinent that I now personally convey my deeply felt sorrow for the loss of two promising young lives and for those who suffered injuries.

I have directed the State Commissioner of Police to urgently commence an investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate shooting incident with a view to identifying possible culprits within and outside the Force. Taken together with the ongoing investigation by the University management, we will consider the need for an independent panel of inquiry, if necessary once these fact finding investigations are concluded.”

Dada Oluwaseyifunmi Kehinde, one of the protesting FUOYE students who was killed by police officers on the 10th of September 2019, has been buried amidst tears.

Late Dada Oluwaseyifunmi Kenny, was shot by men of the Nigeria Police Force in Oye Ekiti. Before his death, he was an 100 Level student of CSH department, faculty of agriculture. Instead, they have been arresting students who allegedly manhandled an officer.

The National Association of Nigeria Students, Ekiti State, has distanced itself from the national body which blamed Erelu Fayemi for the death of FUOYE students.

This was made known in a statement released by Comr. Ogunleye Abiola Johnson, Chairman, NANS/JCC, Ekiti State.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had yesterday condemned the killing of two FUOYE students, and injuring of others by security details attached to Chief (Mrs) Bisi Fayemi; wife of Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.

The National Public Relations Officer, NANS, had yesterday stated that the wife of the Governor directed her security personnel to maltreat students for protesting against her husband’s alleged anti people’s government.

This is one point the National Association of Nigeria Students/Joint Campus Committee , Ekiti State disputes.

According to the chairman, Comr. Ogunleye Abiola Johnson, the efforts by some rent seekers to turn the story upside down to score cheap political score and blackmail the wife of the governor in order to cash out on the death of our members is unacceptable.

Moments back, the management of the institution announced on Voice 89.9 FM, that the institution has been closed with immediate effect, while ordering students to vacate the premises before 10am tomorrow 11th September 2019.

This is coming after a protest by students of the institution turned violent earlier today, leading to the loss of life and property.

Ekiti state Governor, Kayode Fayemi has stated that he eats Booli (roasted plantain) and Agbado (roasted corn) more than the immediate past Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Fayemi stated this during a recent edition of TVC, #TheInterview, while he was talking about his private life and policies.

He also stated that Fayose is aware of his love for Booli and Agbado.

The Ekiti State Local Government Election is set to hold on Saturday 7th December 2019, this is according to the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC).

EKSIEC wrote;

Pursuant to schedule 4 section 1 Sub section 1 of Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2011.

Notice is hereby given that the Local Government General Election will take place between the hours of 8:00am and 2:00pm on Saturday 7th December 2019 in Ekiti State.

Applicants of the 2019 Ekiti state teachers recruitment exercise have expressed dissatisfaction as the state government required them to pay for the process.

According to reports verified by EkitiReporters, the state government required every applicant to pay One Thousand and Fifty Naira (N1,050), before they can sit for an examination which is a part of the recruitment process.

A check on the official site of the state government confirmed this to us.

Over 19,000 applicants had applied online for the primary school teaching jobs advertised by the State Universal Basic Education Board. With only 1,100 of them set to be given the job.

This has led to an outcry from the applicants who see the N1,050 charge as outrageous and a form of extortion.

Former Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, earlier today visited the state house of assembly, after he was summoned over alleged misappropriation of local government funds while in office.

Though there was drama in the House after he was asked by lawmakers to return back home, and come on a later date.

Speaking on the turn of events on his verified Twitter handle, Fayose said, “I just left the Ekiti House of Assembly where I met with the Speaker and some Principal Officers. I’m a clear conscience, I fear no accusation.”

The Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly also went on to state that the former Governor of the State, Mr Ayo Fayose's ambush to the House of Assembly complex was resisted because he came unannounced.

Precious Owolabi, who was killed during a clash by the police and Shiites in Abuja, is set to be buried on the 25th of July 2019.

A passage rites for the deceased will be held today at his parents house in Wusas, Kaduna state.
