TravelUkraine: Security At Poland Border Threaten To Shoot Some African Students by fabinfos(op):
A shocking video has shown the moment security agents at the Polish border threatened to shoot some group of African students trying to flee Ukraine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG8X7cewrMQ

The group can be heard shouting that they are students and are not armed, as they look to convince the security agents that they only want to cross the border.

Poland being a NATO member has been on of the most favoured destination for many fleeing African students.

#AskQuestions on Twitter: Gbenga Adeyinka in private party video amidst persons with unexplainable monies

Twitter user Taiwo Ajakaye @dmightyangel has called on law enforcement agents to identity the source of financing of persons in attendance of what appears a private party caught on video where hard currency was flagrantly abused as practised by yahoo boys or blood money ritualists.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84y-rid-xvM

What particularly stood out in the video was the presence of Gbenga Adeyinka a supposed role model celebrity in society partaking in the disrespect of an extant law of our country.

An online comment in the thread #AskQuestion speculated the event to be E-money's 40th birthday...

In all of this, the major question is the level of depravity of today's youths and their wisdom of accumulation and display of wealth in a society where many go without.

EducationEKSU Management Reacts To Allegations Of High Handedness By VC by fabinfos(op): 10:18am On Feb 21, 2022
The management of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) has reacted to allegations of highhandedness of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Edward Olorunnisola Olanipekun.

An earlier report by Independent Newspaper Nigeria, had claimed that the Vice-Chancellor, who has been describing himself as ‘the new sheriff in town,’ had been issuing queries to tens of senior professors in the school on frivolous and malicious grounds.

This the management of the institution has stated is false.

According to a recently released statement by Bode Olofinmuagun, Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, the staff of the institution that were issued queries were those alleged to be involved in the portal fraud and other infractions in the university, including but not limited to impersonation, dereliction of duty, insubordination, alteration of examination marks.

See full statement below;

EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY,
ADO – EKITI

Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs
21st February, 2022

PRESS RELEASE
RE – EKSU LECTURERS DECRY HIGH HANDEDNESS OF VC

The attention of the Management of Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti and in particular, the Vice Chancellor has been drawn to an online report with the above caption.

The report under reference was written in a sensational manner with a view to attracting undue public sympathy as it is wrong to allege that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, a well-known comrade, is high handed and issuing frivolous queries to Professors.

To set the record straight, some staff of the university including Professors that were issued queries were those alleged to be involved in the portal fraud and other infractions in the university, including but not limited to impersonation, dereliction of duty, insubordination, alteration of examination marks.

The university is a universal community which has its own way of operation. It is a well known fact that the university operates a committee system whereby no individual, including the Vice Chancellor can operate as a dictator.

Therefore, accusing the Vice Chancellor of high handedness or issuing frivolous queries in this matter does not arise.

Those found to be involved in the portal fraud and other infractions were queried based on the recommendations of the fact finding Committees (and the report of an agency that investigated the portal fraud) in the spirit of fair hearing so that they could have the opportunity to defend themselves and say whatever they know on what they were alleged to have done.

It is important to emphasise here that the recommendations in all the reports were considered and unanimously adopted by the university Management. Hence, the decision to query the affected staff emanated from the university Management and not from the Vice-Chancellor as maliciously alleged by the complainant(s). Nonetheless, the university Management under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, will not be blackmailed, cowed, intimidated, stampeded or distracted in its determination to rid the university of all forms of malfeasances and misdemeanors. Let it be known that the current administration in the university has zero tolerance for any act of misconduct.

It is important to inform the general public that the current administration in the university places premium on the welfare of staff and students, despite the paucity of funds. For instance, Council at its meeting held on 10th February, 2022 approved the promotion of 30 new Professors and 41 Readers as well as the elevation of scores of non teaching staff to the positions of Directors, Deputy Registrars, Deputy Bursars, Deputy Directors and Senior Chief Technologists.

The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University is a democrat and an apostle of due process who will never be involved in any shady or frivolous action against any member of staff because of envy or vendetta as claimed in the malicious report.

CrimeUK NHS Doctor (dr. Hakeem Lateef) Sacked After 27 Years For Faking His CV by fabinfos(op): 10:40am On Feb 17, 2022
An NHS doctor has been struck off today for faking his CV, bringing to an end his 27-year career in medicine.

Police questioned Dr Hakeem Lateef, 54, after he tried to get a job in finance just six weeks after he was suspended for lying about his involvement in a head-on car crash.

Lateef paid a bank worker £400 to attend a one day Co-op course on due diligence work then gave him a further £100 to ”edit” his CV and include referees as part of an elaborate scam.

The doctor used this CV to convince a recruitment agency he had worked as a compliance analyst for a string of financial organisations including the National Bank of Egypt and the Nationwide banks.

But Lateef, who has worked in orthopaedics and trauma, ENT, general surgery and urology at hospitals across the UK, was discovered to be making false claims about his experience.

A special Co-op investigator carrying out an internal probe found two copies of Lateef’s CV on the worker’s computer hard drive – one showing the doctor’s medical experience and the second with the faked entries, and the police were called.

Lateef denied wrongdoing claimed his PC had been ”hacked.”

No criminal action was taken against him for attempting to obtain a pecuniary advantage by deception, but he was referred to the General Medical Council.

Lateef, from Toxteth, Liverpool, who has most recently been working in drug and alcohol detox services was found guilty of serious professional misconduct and dishonesty, at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal service, in Manchester.

The hearing was told how in March 2018 Lateef who previously worked as a police and military forensic medical examiner had been suspended by the MPTS for six months when he was found guilty of falsely understating a woman’s injuries when he was convicted of dangerous driving at a court hearing in 2016.

The following month he paid the bank worker, known as Mr A, £400 to attend a one-day course titled, ‘Intensive and practical Know Your Customer, Customer Due Diligence training.’

The following day Lateef emailed a copy of his CV and asked Mr A to “write” or “edit” it, adding, “Thank you for wonderful lectures of yesterday. I understand someone can help us with referees. Please assist me in this area.”

He also paid him a further £100 for his services.

PoliticsNIGER STATE IS 46: Governor Abubakar Sani Bello Lauds Founding Fathers by fabinfos(op): 2:14pm On Feb 04, 2022
NIGER STATE IS 46, HOORAY!!: GOV. ABUBAKAR SANI BELLO CALLS FOR LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR HARMONIZED PATH TO SUSTAINABLE GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT AS HE LAUDS FOUNDING FATHERS....

Niger State Governor and Chairman North Central States Governors' Forum (NCSGF), Abubakar Sani Bello has lauded the individual and collective efforts of citizens and Founding Fathers of the state who have made various but exceptional contributions towards the growth and development of the state.

The state, created by the Military regime of Murtala Ramat Mohammed in February of 1976, has historically evolved through different stages of growth propelled by the various contributions of previous administrations.

To mark the 46th anniversary since the creation of the state, Governor Sani Bello expressed the need, not only to consolidate on the legacies of those founding fathers but to institute a legal framework that will harmonize all Blueprints and or Development Action Plans from previous administrations to establish a compelling path to growth and development of the state.

The Governor, in a commemorative message said it was time to stop arbitrary, politically-minded execution and abandonment of projects and follow a roadmap that will guarantee sustainable growth and development of the state.

According to him, "Enough of every government come and do its own and abandone that of the other. There must be a patriotic commitment to continuity in governance particularly as it affects service delivery to our people".

While expressing gratitude to God and appreciating the progress recorded in the last 46 years, the Governor advised successive, incoming administrations to strive to enhance the integrated and holistic development of the state without attachment to sociopolitical sentiments.

He assured that his administration will not waiver in its resolve to fast track the development of the state and called for collective efforts because the act of governance can and must not be left to the government alone.

"We must develop a positive mindset and be at the vanguard towards community service by rendering our individual and or collective but invaluable support particularly in the area of security which has been one of the most challenging in recent time", he said.

Governor Sani Bello disclosed that the state government, in close collaboration with the Military, is evolving new strategies and increasing community participation in addressing all forms of armed banditry and criminality while acknowledging the role of traditional rulers in the latest approach.

The Governor, while recognizing the role of critical stakeholders in the development of the state, assured that government will continue to collaborate with credible development partners and genuine investors to resuscitate, revitalize the state's ailing industries and even establish new ones.

Governor Sani Bello, once again, felicitated with all Nigerlites and urged them to remain steadfast and look into the future in unity and with hope of better years ahead adding that there is every reason to be optimistic despite the obvious, seemingly daunting challenges ahead.

He called for peaceful coexistence among the diverse people of the state and more support to the APC-led administration in the state to consolidate on the progress recorded thus far.

PoliticsEkiti Govt Denies Fayemi Convoy Attack On Ondo Traveller by fabinfos(op):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh6axdxXRQM

The Ekiti state government has denied claims that a driver was attacked by security operatives attached to Governor Fayemi’s convoy.

According to earlier reports, the convoy of Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi on Wednesday assaulted and brutalised a man, Dapo Oshituyo in Akure, Ondo State.

Dayo Oshituyi, a man from Ondo state, claims his automobile was vandalized by Governor Fayemi’s security staff. The governor, according to Oshituyi, was in the vehicle and watched the security aides assaulting him. After waiting for the convoy to pass, he claims his car was vandalized by security personnel.

But now the state government has denied the reports, stating that it was the driver who was reckless, and actually caused an accident that affected the vehicle designated for the Governor.

See statement released below;

RE: ALLEGED ASSAULT ON MOTORIST: OUR POSITION

The Government of Ekiti State is bringing an update on the subject following our pledge to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged brutalisation of a motorist Mr. Dayo Oshituyi, in Akure, Ondo State a few days ago.

Members of the public are invited to note the following, which are the outcomes of our preliminary investigation:

On the said date, Mr. Oshituyi who had been driving recklessly from behind, made to overtake the Governor’s convoy despite repeated warnings by the security operatives.
In the process of dangerously overtaking the convoy of vehicles, he was faced with an oncoming truck from the opposite direction of the road which forced him to swerve dangerously into the convoy – an action which caused a minor accident that affected one of the vehicles usually reserved for the Governor. Mr. Oshituyi further sped off into another direction breaching public safety and almost causing another accident along the route.
In consideration of the security situation in the country, and the need for appropriate tactical threat assessment to clarify if the incident was simply a case of reckless driving and not an attempt on the convoy, a detachment of security operatives pursued the fleeing driver while the convoy continued its journey.

At the point of being apprehended when the security operatives caught up with him, Mr. Oshituyi refused to alight from the vehicle and chose instead to create a scene. He was let go because of the pleadings of passers-by and people living in the area, who can corroborate our position that he was not assaulted in anyway or form.

We must reiterate that Mr. Oshitutyi’s claim that he was brutalised is just as untrue as his claim that the Governor was present during the altercation between him and the security operatives, which resulted from his indiscretions.

The development was subsequently reported at the Okuta Elerinla Police Divisional Headquarters, Akure, Ondo State capital. We further inform members of the public that the Ondo State Police Command, in whose jurisdiction the incident took place, is presently investigating the matter. The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has a sustained interest in the outcome of the investigations and has urged the police to handle the matter professionally and ensure fairness to all parties concerned.

As a responsible government that believes in the principles of the rule of law and fairness, further action on the matter is on hold pending the outcome of police investigations, which would guide our next steps. We assure members of the public that the Government of Ekiti State would not hesitate to recommend appropriate punitive measures against any of our officials who might be indicted, in line with the provisions of extant laws.

We are pleased that consistent with his character, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi is well known for the civil and decorous way security details attached to him conduct themselves in the course of duty, which is why attempts by some detractors to use this development to cause disaffection against his person and office have failed. We use this opportunity to affirm our commitment to the protection of the fundamental rights of every citizen and assure that we would not do anything to jeopardise such rights.

Regardless of the circumstances, we are interested in the well being of Mr. Oshituyi following the incident and invite him to maintain open lines of communication with the Governor’s Office through the undersigned in this regard, and towards the ends of justice and clarity about the facts of the matter.

CrimeInsecurity: Niger State Governor Assents Vigilante Corps Law by fabinfos(op): 3:16pm On Dec 16, 2021
In a bid to contain the rising cases of insecurity in Niger state, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has assented into Law the Vigilante Corps Law.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Mr. Emmanuel Umar in a press briefing in Minna at the instance of the Governor.

He explained that the numerous voluntary organisations operating in the state, with the aim of protecting their various communities necessitated the establishment of the Vigilante Corps Law.

The Commissioner further said the Law will help to organize and bring the various groups under one umbrella and ensure that their conduct is guided by the law.

He also expressed optimism that the decision of the state government will boost the activities of the Vigilante Corps so as to strengthen internal security architecture of the state.

Mr Umar said the vigilante corps will complement the efforts of the conventional security agencies and mitigate the proliferation of small arms in the state.

He acknowledged the recent development at Runbun Giwa where a group of individuals called “Kungiyan Manoma” asked farmers to pay levy to bandits before accessing their farmlands and warned members of the group to desist from such criminal act while calling on all farmers not to comply with such directive as it is an attempt to extort them of their hard-earned money.

Mr Umar who stressed that security operatives have been directed to flush the criminals, enjoined anyone with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals, to meet the appropriate authority while assuring them that their identity will be treated with confidentiality.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner disclosed that some suspects linked to the Mazakuka attack have been arrested and investigations ongoing.

He recalled the working visit of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to some communities in Mashegu local government area affected by banditry activities in recent times to sympathize with the residents, assess the situation as well as develop new strategies to contain the situation to prevent reoccurrence.

The Commissioner restated government’s resolve to ensure relative peace in all parts of the state maintaining that collaboration by all and sundry is key to achieving the desired objective.

EducationEKSU Signs Mou With Investors For Construction Of 9,343 Bed-space Hostel by fabinfos(op): 11:51am On Oct 31, 2021
The Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a construction firm, Olotu Holdings Limited for the construction of 9,343 bed-space capacity students’ hostel.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Construction firm, Mr. Benjamin Adeniyi Ayodele expressed appreciation to the Management for the opportunity given to the firm to partner with EKSU. He explained that the company was projecting the provision of hostel accommodation that would take care of about 10,000 students on campus.

Mr. Benjamin Adeniyi assured the Management of Ekiti State University that all arrangements for movement to the project site were in top gear as everything was set in terms of funding and manpower.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun in his remarks, thanked the Chairman of the firm for trusting Ekiti State University with such a huge investment.

Prof Olanipekun told the investor to be rest assured that the resources being invested into the project would never be a regret as the University would not only be faithful to the terms of the agreement, but also, create an enabling environment for the smooth execution of the project.
The Vice Chancellor described the project as a good development as it would provide a suitable accommodation for a reasonable number of students, thus, making the goal of making the institution a fully residential one a reality.

Prof Olanipekun, however, advised the investor on the need to interact with the Directorates of Physical Planning and Procurement of the university for strict adherence to specifications.

The Vice Chancellor further advised the firm not to waste time in its preparation to move to the project site in order to meet up with the target for the completion of the project. He also advised that the construction could go in phases.

Two other investors (Eliezer Investment and Covenantedge Revert Services) had earlier signed Memoranda of Understanding with the university on the provision of accommodation for both staff and students of the university.

The recent event will no doubt, complement the earlier efforts.
