Nairaland GeneralNairaland Wants Your Real Name by fagamite(op): 9:57am On Jul 25, 2012
It wasn’t always this way. Back before the internet (if you are old enough to remember such a time) there was little opportunity to post anonymous dirty comments, apart for rest room stalls. However, since the advent of Nairaland, it seems like everyone is a critic. Many times it seems as if everyone is a foul-mouthed, brain-dead, ignorant critic in the mould of Sagamite. You know…a comment troll.

Comment sections on Nairaland can be an especially icky part of the internet, but Nairaland owner Seun Osewa is looking to clean up its image by linking your anonymous profile with your Facebook account.

That’s correct, your real name and face may now be associated with all your pointless commentary. Including commentaries about the guy you are cheating on. Yes, Seun wants everything.

A supermod for Nairaland declined to comment today on whether more changes are in store, but it’s easy to imagine that offering accounts with real names is just a first step toward hiding, and eventually eliminating, comments from anonymous forumites. Such steps would do much to improve the perceived quality of Nairaland content.

Seun continues describing the advantages of such a system by saying, “This is your identity, so you’re in the driver’s seat. First off, your name. If you are currently Nairaland user Sagamite, you can now appear as Ponle Sagamu of University of Bristol School of Fucktards, the full name from your Facebook profile (with an actual space in the middle!), along with any photo you uploaded.”

“Next step, your past activity. Maybe you posted a few things way back (all those “I love you Naijababes!!” comments?) that you’d rather not associate with publicly. By clicking “Review my content,” you can see every video, comment or playlist you’ve ever posted, and decide whether you want it associated with your full name before making the change.”

If you don’t want to use your Facebook account, you can refuse, but you are prompted with a second attempt such as, “Are you sure?” Then, like some kind of internet degenerate and fucktardeen, you must explain why you don’t want to use your full name.

Civility and free speech are difficult to balance even among people who agree on things. Add in thousands of anonymous know-it-alls, dimwits arrogating intellectual superiority to themselves and we have, well, the internet as we know it. This is definitely a step in the right direction for Nairaland; whether or not its users will actually start using their real names is another question.

Sagamite: You demonstrate your fucktardism because there is nowhere I indicated such. People come from same genes. cheesy
grin
person. You mean from the same genetic make-up/genome sequence? Anyway, FYI, a gene is a section of the genome which codes for one polypeptide or RNA chain that may or may not have any understood function . But for you, lets just say, a gene = a protein. And NO, people dont always "come from the same gene." cool
FamilyRe: Which Do You Support: Marrying The One You Love Or Loving The One You Marry by fagamite: 9:40am On Jul 23, 2012
Michky: Mr Fvctard, here is a simple question for you: would you be saying this same sh*t if your sister looked like a gorilla? I guess not. Besides, if we all go for the attractive, who wil marry the average looking girls or the ugly ones? Let me tell you something boy, life is not a bed of roses as you think. Infact, if the law of deprivation is anything to go by, (what you lack the most the lastime is what you'll want the most of the nextime) then something tells me you must be really really ugly - as in, like a crossbreed of chimpazee and hyenna. Just saying.
First of, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and one man's "ponmo" is another man's "shaki." As long as that aphorism continues to be true, ugly women will never be short of attention from average-looking men like you. Secondly, I am a big believer in Jahn Nash's revision of Adam Smith’s principle that the “best result comes from everyone in a group/society doing what’s best for themselves and the group/society."

And if the end product is getting laid, people like you would be best served if you went for the unattractive women, leaving people like me to cater for the attractive ones. That way, it is win-win for us all grin

Am glad we saw this to a logical conclusion despite all the challenges.

Congratulations to all the participants, you are all winners!

Kudos to my co-judges and the chairman, Lady-cuddlemii

And to our brilliant audience; well done!
Including Shymmex?
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 11:41pm On Jul 22, 2012
PhysicsQED: You kind of have a point in that references to previous scholarship are sometimes necessary for debating certain topics, but you took multiple sentences of the guy's work word for word.

If you were a member of a debating club at a school or university somewhere, and it was the finals in some debating championship, would you actually do what you did just now - reproduce some scholar's work word for word without attribution to make your argument look more polished - without considering that cheating?

And if you were on a debate team and someone from the opposing team did that, wouldn't you be pissed off?
he wont because he was probably doing the same thing. grin

cheddarking: I move to raise a motion that:

Anytime anybody on Nairaland is found to be fraudulent or dishonest in anyway,

The word 'Shymmex' should be used as the descriptive term.

E.g The sentence: "He is a liar" will now be "He is a Shymmex"

and "He Lied" will be "He Shymmexed"

We should start developing Nairaland Slang Na?

All in favour please indicate...
rofl

In favor.
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 10:23pm On Jul 22, 2012
coogar: this is fraudulent....5 judges minus the judge that stepped down...yet 3 results were presented!
my simple arithmetic tells me 5-1 = 4.
what is this blatant fraud perpetrated by Nigerian judges?

then again, that was supposed to be the semis....
that newacca mauled shymmex does not mean he would obliterate coogar...
he won his round, i won my round....shouldn't there be a clash between the 2?
If Newacca can maul Plato, Abramovich, Marx and Pareto, how much more you?

Good one mate. I didnt even see that.
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 10:10pm On Jul 22, 2012
shymmex: Can you guys give newacca and I 15mins?

And don't disqualify me.. grin
Why would they do that? Its not as if you are not Isaac olawale or not smart enough to cite Pareto, Marx, Roman Abramovish or any of the other foreign sounding names. On the contrary, you've been elevated to the post of debater emeritus . . . you are now above the judges, just a notch below Seun..
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 10:07pm On Jul 22, 2012
shymmex: May bad, FCT was moved to ABuja.
Dont worry about it. Even Isaac Olawale wound have made the same mistake.
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 10:01pm On Jul 22, 2012
coogar: no statement about shymmex's bold-faced plagiarism? is he guilty or not after deliberation?
WHat? So there is some doubt in your mind that this guy is not God's gift to NL? AM I dreaming?
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 9:56pm On Jul 22, 2012
shymmex: WTF are you on about?

I cited Pareto, Mosca, Michels, and Marx's assertions at the beginning of my scholarship, and I didn't even get marks for the citation..
rofl. You cited Pareto? I like this guy already. No shame, no remorse, nada. Pure straight face.
LiteratureRe: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - FINALS by fagamite: 9:53pm On Jul 22, 2012
Cuddlemii: Judges, I think we should take 20mins off to investigate the debater, Shymmex. If he is found guilty, then he should be disqualified!
We are big on originality, transparency & integrity
Thank you!
Originality: Shymmex is the original Isaac Olawale. He is Isaac olalwale, but Isaac olawale may not be Shymmex. It is complicated. grin
Transparency: Shymmex
got caught because of his transparency. if he wasnt transparent, he would have ran the article through www.paperrater.com before posting them as his. Regardless, we need to give him a round of applause for his transparency. If only our Godfathers were as transparent . . . grin
Integrity: Often defined as the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished. Shymmex has integrity because the whole article was copied undiminished, in its entirety. grin

Now, since I have been able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Shymmex has the aforementioned qualities, I hereby move a motion to appoint Shymmex as debater emeritus, for his integrity, transparency, integrity and un-yeiding zeal to impress many an ungrateful Nairalander.

Eko Ile: Acquiring skills to give people a better life is all of a sudden a bad thing or related to some other nonsense?

Sounds like some of you clowns juts have to show us how stupid and re---tarded you all are .
Ode ni e.

WHy is he making such a fuss over an ordinary mechanic shop? What is the capacity of this particular shop? What impact is it supposed to have on the state of unemployment in Lagos? Why is opening a mechanic shop a priority for his govt when Lagos isnt that short of roadside mechanics and there are more important things begging for his attention? what kind of people is that shop supposed to train? Where is the funding coming from? Any conflict of interest we need to be aware of? We need facts & figures and answers to these questions, not just some stupid ACN propaganda machine going into overdrive.
