John Mikel Obi ’s contract with Trabzonspor has been terminated by mutual consent, the club has announced.

Mikel joined the Turkish club as a free agent on a two-year deal last summer.

No reason was given for the mutual termination of the contract, but Trabzonspor confirmed the former Super Eagles captain gave up his remaining wages.

“The professional football player agreement between our company and John Obi Mikel on 30.06.2019 start date 31.05.2021 has been mutually terminated.

“With a mutual termination agreement, the football player gave up all his forward-looking receivables,” the statement read.

Last weekend, Mikel Obi criticised Turkish football authorities, for not suspending the Super Lig season despite the spread of the coronavirus across Europe.

The Nigerian then refused to come off the bench for their 1-1 draw with Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 34 cultists at their hideout in Gwako, Gwagwalada Area Council in Abuja.

DSP Anjuguri Manzah, Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspects numbering 34 were arrested on Sunday around Gwako during their cult meeting.

A former All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has declared that Biafra is dead and buried. Garba urged pro-Biafra agitators to ignore the secession move and look for something better.

Gunmen have kidnapped Madam Appolonia Amaechi, the mother of Ikechukwu Amaechi. Amaechi is the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of TheNiche Newspapers.

The kidnappers have demanded N20million as ransom for the 79-year-old grandmother.

Madam Appolonia, a retired teacher, was abducted on Tuesday, March 3.

She was forcefully taken from her home at Ahiazu in Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State around 8:30 pm.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Friday, disclosed that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu will lead a one-million-man march to protest against the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

The match by Kanu and members of IPOB will take place on the 20th of June in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

A statement by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful said the match was aimed at creating international awareness on the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

Six pregnant girls have been rescued from a baby factory in Ogun, the state police command has said. The baby-making home is located at Imedu Olori area of Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government area of Ogun State.

The police spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Thursday that the baby factory was discovered on Friday, when an inmate, who escaped from the home, reported her ordeals at the Mowe police station.

Oyeyemi informed that the escapee stated that the owner of the home, one Ms Florence Ogbonna, had lured her in.

It was revealed that ogbonna usually contracts the services of some able-bodied men to sleep with them and impregnate them, saying immediately any of them gave birth to a baby, the baby will be taken away.

The DPO Mowe division, SP Marvis Jayeola, was said to have mobilized his detectives to the scene, where 12 ladies between the ages of 20-25years were rescued with six amongst them heavily pregnant.

Oyeyemi confirmed the suspects as: Florence Ogbonna ‘f’, Chibuke Akabueze ‘m’, and Chibuzor Okafor ‘m’.

They have been arrested and are now talking to authorities

Several persons are feared dead following a fresh insurgent attack on Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state, Northeast Nigeria.

The insurgents stormed the council where more than nine military Generals were holding ground at about 6:30 am on Wednesday and shot sporadically.

A military source told newsmen that the insurgents had earlier written, informing communities in Damboa of their planned attack and have attempted to make an inroad on several occasions but failed to take the town.

It could be recalled that the last attack on Damboa lasted for nine hours before the insurgents were finally repelled. However, residents of the area also reported that the insurgents have been communicating with their wives who mostly live in IDP camps in the community.

Following the attack,a resident of Damboa, who spoke on phone to our Correspondent said for over two hours troops from the 25 task force brigade in Damboa alongside hundreds of hunters and members of the civilian JTF exchanged gunfire with the insurgents.

The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo has written to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, warning that Ndigbo had taken enough of the harassment and intimidation of Fulani herdsmen in Igboland.

He said though Ndigbo are law-abiding and hospitable, they are ever capable of defending themselves and would not fold their arms and allow gun-toting, marauding Fulani herdsmen to continue harassing, raping, maiming and killing them in their own homes.

Nwodo whose letter stemmed from an alleged action of the Fulani herders and their leaders recently at a meeting in Awka in the presence of police, whereby they called the bluff of their host communities following reports that they were moving about with AK-47 rifles.

The youth council of the Apex Igbo Socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndi has called on the Federal Government to be open and responsible to her citizens by divulging vital and sensitive information to the public, especially in this situation of life and death so that the people can assess the situation and decide measures to protect themselves and as well assist the government in her lofty efforts.

The Igbo are well traveled and always making impacts wherever they find themselves. The Igbo Farm Village in the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton Virginia was built collectively as children and adults jointly partook in the construction.

This is one of the five farmsteads to recognize contribution of the first old world immigrants to the development of Virginia and the greater American Frontier Culture.

In 2002, after the American Frontier Culture Foundations has funded the construction of the English, Irish, German and Colonial American Farms, the staff of the Frontier Culture Museum began to consider one that will represent West Africa’s people and culture.


In 2003, after hearing of Prof. Akụma’s research which he retraced the slave journeys from Arọchukwu to the Costal towns of Calabar and Bonny before they were forced to the Americas, the Frontier Museum contacted him. It is observed that in 1700, the major number of African slaves in America were the Igbo. Because of this, this Museum would no longer be called West Africa Farm Village but, Igbo Farm Village.

In March 2006 American Frontier Culture Museum Staff traveled to Nigeria and together with the staff of Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments gathered information on traditional Igbo architecture. Containers full of traditional building materials were shipped from Nigeria to the United States for the Construction of the Igbo Farm Village. Throughout the construction periods, volunteers came from the Chicago areas, Washington DC, Nashville, Bowling Green, Kentucky; Orlando, New Jersey, California, etc.

After construction, the Igbo from different parts of the world gather here on vacations, celebrations and remembrance of their cultural identities and histories. The Igbo born and bred in the States who never experienced masquerades and what village looks like feel at home here. Some African Americans constantly visit here, conduct their DNA and discover their Igbo ancestry.

The Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has told the Supreme Court to nullify the election of Senator Hope Uzodinma as Imo Governor and order a fresh governorship election in the State.

Kanu, in a broadcast via Radio Biafra on Sunday, warned that nothing short of a fresh election would be acceptable by the people.

The IPOB leader said the apex court judges should respect the wishes of the people and reverse itself in the judgement or cancel 2019 election in the State.

“No matter what their plan is, Imo (Supreme Court ) judgment must not stand. We are warning the whole world, I do not know who Emeka Ihedioha is; frankly speaking, I do not care, but what happens in Imo affects everybody. It must not be allowed to stand to avoid disaster and chaos.”

According to Kanu, who has been broadcasting from abroad, the only reason the Federal Government wants to have Imo at all cost is to have the governor as stooge to perfect its secret plans in the state.

“It is very clear why they are not looking for any other place in Biafra land, but Owerri,” Kanu added.

“What they wish to occupy Owerri for is spiritual. Those of you who are blind in spirit cannot see that the caliphate needs Owerri very much, they believe they can strangle us.

“Bayelsa is not important to them, what they are looking for is Imo. I do not want people to be led astray by the judgment that was obtained in Bayelsa case,” he said.

An adviser to Iran’s supreme leader has been reported dead after contacting Coronavirus. The state news in Tehran reported that the Expediency Council member, Seyyed Mohammad Mirmohammadi died aged 71 at a Tehran hospital.


He is the first top official to die from the deadly disease which is affecting members of the Islamic Republic’s leadership, Metro Uk reports.

A human rights group, Prison Inmate Development Initiative (PIDI-Nigeria) has demanded that the states and federal government, in the spirit of equity and justice, release all inmates serving in various jail terms in correctional centres across the country.

According to the group, if repentant members of the dreaded Boko haram fighters that were captured in action by the security can be released by the Nigerian Government, then other repentant prisoners should also be set free.

Addressing a press conference in Bauchi on Sunday, the Executive Director of the group, Mbami Iliya Sabka said, “PIDI-Nigeria hereby, demand that both the state and federal governments release with immediate effect, all inmates serving in various correctional facilities (Prisons) whom are now repented Ex-Offenders just like the Boko Haram Prisoners”.

The Prison Inmate Development Initiative (PIDI-Nigeria) had been, over the years, advocating for the rights of key population in Nigeria, especially those in conflict with the criminal justice systems (CSJ).

The group while applauding President Muhammedu Buhari for assenting to the Correctional Service Act last year as part of reforming the criminal justice system said the law has empowered the state Controller of Correctional Services in Section 1(3) and Section 10 of the act to rehabilitate and reform offenders for reintegration and not the Nigerian Army.

He recalled that the Nigerian Army (NA) recently claimed to have negotiated, rehabilitated, reformed and reintegrated alleged Boko Haram terrorists who are prisoners to move freely into the society.

“Mr. President, we know that you are fully aware that ‘terrorism’ is a crime against humanity and human rights, which threatens and endangers the peace and the security of mankind”. The group stressed.

The executive director who noted that PIDI-Nigeria is not against or opposing the released of ex-Boko Haram fighters pointed out that, “as an organization, we had recently succeeded in securing the release of one alleged Boko haram “inmate” through a bail application in the federal high Court of Nigeria, judicial division in Bauchi”.

The group which drew the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to the non-implementation of the Correctional Service Act 2019 as assented by him, said inmates are still warehoused more than the capacity of the correctional facilities.

According to the rights group, “the law, in section 12( has already empowered the comptroller of correctional service to reject additional inmates above facility under their watch”.

“Investigation showed that Nigerian government discriminates against other class of victims that came in conflict with the law and gave more preferential and juicy treatment only to terrorist “Boko Haram” fighters”. The rights group alleged.

The group said further that, “in Nigeria, the socio-political context is very hostile and harsh to; LGBTQI, Kidnappers, armed robbers, murderers and other petty prisoners/offenders who are faced with unique legal and social challenges not experienced by non-terrorist offenders by the Nigeria government”.

“However; the 1999 constitution section 15. (1) The motto of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. (2) Accordingly, national integration shall be actively encouraged, whilst discrimination on the grounds of place of origin, sex, religion, status, ethnic or linguistic association or ties shall be prohibited”, Sabka explained.

PIDI-Nigeria averred that, “from the provisions of the laws in Nigeria, no crime that is committed by those class of prisoners/offenders that the “Boko Haram” fighters have not committed”.

According to the group, “Boko haram kill, rob, rape, mutilate, maim, Sodomized, Steal and even form a regional government in Nigeria”.

The group decried that, even as the war between the Nigerian government and the terrorists Boko haram has not ended, many of its fighters have been released from custody by the Nigerian Military and with a proposed bill for the creation of an agency for them that is now before the National assemble.

The human rights group called on the government to equally create an agency that will rehabilitate LGBTQI, Kidnappers, Arm Robbers, Murderers and other petty ex-prisoners/offenders for the interest of justice.

“This class of offenders should also be considered without any form of discrimination in accordance with the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended or PIDI-Nigeria will seek for redress to this class of key population in court”. Sabka vowed.

The kind hearted Ohafia Queen is currently working on building a contemporary general hospital in Ohafia and she is aiming for the hospital to be ready by 2019, saying it is going to be first of its kind and comparable to standards obtainable anywhere in the world because it is going to be the best hospital in the whole of Africa with specialized medical doctors and nursing staff plus world class medical equipments.

According to the blueprint, the hospital is going to have a district department with large numbers of beds for intensive care and additional beds for patients who need longer treatments.

Further revelation has it that the hospital is going to have a clinic department to ensure that patients can be seen quickly and treated. There is also going to be a built in pharmacy department so that medications that are prescribed by the doctors can easily be available and quickly purchased by the patient.

He said: “The hospital will be named after Queen Catherine Ajike’s Christian name which is ‘Patience’, in other words, the hospital that is being built in Ohafia by Your Royal Majesty Queen Catherine Ajike will be called: Patience Ajike Medical Hospital”.

We could not help but ask how the Queen feel about the Hospital and what actually motivated such a lofty decision.

“It saddens her that Nigeria doesn’t have very good hospitals and when people are sick some suffer looking for a place to get treated and most end up dying unnecessarily. So doing this for her people she feels that she is going to contribute to their good health and in saving of lives of Ohafians and the whole of Nigeria.

”Her priority is to use the hospital to cater for Nigerians but it will be open for people from all works of life and from any part of the world to come and get treated”.

It is noteworthy that her main focus now is in the one she is building in Ohafia which is scheduled to be ready in 2019. However, after its completion, Queen Catherine Ajike plans to build about 12 more in total all scattered across Abia State.
