The terrorists who in their disarray strayed
towards Bama, Ngom, Alou, Delwa and Mafa in
the night have now been effectively contained.
Mopping up operation is ongoing. Several
weapons, arms and ammunition including two
armoured vehicles and two artillery guns as well
as 17 Hilux vehicles have been captured from
them. Several terrorists also died.
The affected locations have been secured and
soldiers wounded are being treated. Patrols and
pursuit of fleeing terrorists is continuing in
coordination with allied forces. Meanwhile, the
terrorists attack on Maiduguri in the early hours
of Sunday was quickly contained. The terrorists
incurred massive casualty. The situation is calm
as mopping up operation in the affected area is
ongoing. The ongoing operations is in
coordination with activities in the Multinational
Joint Task. The terrorists are meant to be
engaged in all fronts including their previous
safe havens and hide outs in the region.
It is in line with the arrangement for a
comprehensive and coordinated military
operation with inputs by military forces in the
Lake Chad Basin Commission namely Nigeria,
Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

A powerful blast suspected to be from an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, has rocked a political meeting in Potiskum Town of Yobe state.

The explosion occurred in front of the residence of a local politician, Sabo Garbu, in Kandahar area of the town.

A resident of Potiskum, Adamu Mohammed, informed PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Garbu, a former member of the House of Representatives, was holding a meeting with his associates when the bomb blast occurred.

“The house was full with PDP members holding meeting there. It just happened and it’s not far away from our house,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed said those who survived the blast ran away from the area in fear of second blast, and so it’s difficult to know the extent of damage or casualty.

Mr. Mohammed also said another suspected IED was sighted in the GSM market in Potiskum.

“Police bomb squad are already in the market trying to defuse the bomb found there when the blast in our area occurred,” Mr. Mohammed said.

The GSM market was the scene of a bomb blast last month that killed six people and injured many others.
Yobe is one of the states most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
