Instead of bickering back and forth about what happened on the night I think I would have been better to pass a motion for the the total reformation of the arms policy of the Nigerian police by stopping the arbitary issuance of very powerful assault rifles as the primary weapon of the police, the situation which we have now where any policeman is just issued an AK47 rifle to carry simple civil police duties like crowd control, traffic control , vehicle registration checks is very wrong and must be stopped ...The police must have a special weapons and tactics unit who shall be the sole bearers of power weapons and be called out only when there is a threat that requires the use of such powerful tactical weapons . Every other police man depending on rank and duty should be issued just 500 volt taser , baton and .38 pistol as side arm if necessary ...the situation where even chronic alcoholics and drug addicts some already suffering from terminal illnesses and even mental illness are issued Ak47 assault rifles to carry out simple civic police duties cannot continue and should not be entertained any further...an assault rifle is not called an assault rifle for nothing As the name implies it's for assaulting a target and not policing .
