Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday passed into law, the state’s Budget of N214.9 billion for 2017.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the figure is N1 billion less than the budget proposal forwarded by Governor Nasiru el-Rufa’i, to the assembly on October 12, for approval.
The Speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, who read the content of the budget clause by clause, said N83.46 billion was approved for recurrent and N131.45 for capital expenditure.
He said the budget would cover from now till December 31, 2017.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna and signed by Samuel Aruwan, Governor Nasir el-Rufai commended the lawmakers for their effort in scrutinising the draft budget.
The governor noted that the lawmakers approved a budget that is N1 billion lower than the draft estimates.
“We are proud of the Kaduna State House of Assembly for not padding or inflating the budget,” the governor said, praising the diligence brought to the budget work.
The draft budget size was N215 billion, set at expansionary levels to help drive recovery amidst recession. Its capital to recurrent ratio was 60:40.

Politics / Oyo Partners G20 Youths To Enhance Youth Employment by Famoustemmy(m): 11:44pm On Feb 15, 2017
The Oyo state government is set to partner a multinational youth entrepreneurship group, G20 Youths Entrepreneur Alliance (YEA) with a view to enhancing employment opportunities for the youths of the state.
The Director General, Citizens Enterprises, Mr. Jean-Louis Gregoire, who led the Youths Entrepreneur Alliance members on a courtesy call on state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi said the group was intent on fostering youth empowerment schemes to reduce poverty among the youths.
“Our objective is to look into how to set up the mechanism that will provide mass employment opportunities through entrepreneurial-driven schemes. We would take from the pool of young undergraduates in the universities to benefit from the scheme and they would be empowered through entrepreneurial education, easy access to start up funds for small scale businesses,” Gregoire said.”
Gregoire said the empowerment scheme would be what he called ‘top-down microeconomic scheme’ which he believed would bring about 85 percent job creation.
Gregoire pointed out that focus of the empowerment scheme would be on female youths, whom he noted played prominent roles in family building.
“This top-down microeconomic scheme will lead to the creation of 85 percent jobs in the first quarter of the starting year and our major focus would be the female-youths that will give multiplier effects to the society. We so much appreciate the gesture of Oyo State government for bringing forth so many programmes to help the youths overcome poverty and be self-sustaining.”
In his remarks, Ajimobi said his government remained committed to alleviating poverty occasioned by unemployment in the state.
He noted that youths will continue to be trained and provided with materials needed for them to set up businesses.
Ajimobi said the state agricultural empowerment scheme, named ‘Agric-Oyo’ was also set up for economic diversification with the youths of the state expected to be major beneficiaries.
“Oyo State is strategically positioned to gain from Youths Entrepreneur Alliance as we have the population that can better benefit from the scheme. In terms of economic diversification, Oyo State would reap so much gain as it has the largest landmass targeted at large scale agriculture.”
“We are not in want of programmes and at the same time, we are in need of more. We want to encourage and teach our youths how to fish rather than give them fish, we pledge our support for this programme as we can see clearly, it will benefit our youths and the society at large,” Ajimobi said.

Sports / UCL: Real Madrid 3-1 Napoli (Full Time) by Famoustemmy(m): 11:24pm On Feb 15, 2017
The European champions got off to a bad start at the Santiago Bernabeu, but responded well with goals from Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Casemiro
Real Madrid came from behind to seize control of their Champions League last-16 tie with Napoli with a 3-1 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Goals from Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Casemiro gave the holders an important advantage to take back to Italy after Lorenzo Insigne's sensational opening goal had put Napoli ahead.
Zinedine Zidane had urged his side to keep a clean sheet to give them the best possible chance of going through, but those hopes were dashed after only eight minutes when Insigne embarrassed goalkeeper Keylor Navas with a stunning first-time effort from distance.
Benzema had missed a clear chance inside the first minute but he made amends by levelling the scores with his 51st goal in the competition - one more than the previous best tally for a French player, set by Thierry Henry .
Diego Maradona had given Napoli a pre-match team talk in a bid to instill belief in an upset, but Kroos' clever finish from a Cristiano Ronaldo cross and a thunderbolt from Casemiro effectively killed off those hopes early in the second half.
Dries Mertens - who has scored 13 goals in nine Serie A games in a devastating run of form - missed a clear opportunity to halve the deficit, although Pepe Reina had to make a smart stop to prevent surprise starter James Rodriguez from scoring a fourth.
Madrid survived some late Napoli pressure to hold on to their two-goal advantage, but Maurizio Sarri's side - who saw an 18-match unbeaten run come to an end - will not be without hope in the second leg at the San Paolo.
Madrid showed their attacking intent inside the first minute, Benzema stinging the right hand of Reina after he had been teed up by Ronaldo.
The home side bossed possession early on but they were stunned by a piece of brilliance from
Insigne on the break with only eight minutes on the clock.
The Italy forward raced through onto Marek Hamsik's pass and, 35 yards from goal, he curled a first-time strike past the despairing dive of the out-of-position Navas and into the right-hand corner.
Napoli were looking confident and composed but they relaxed a little too much to allow
Benzema to equalise 11 minutes later, the striker glancing a header into the net from six yards after Dani Carvajal was allowed time and space to the right of the area to produce a sublime outside-of-the-foot cross.
The frantic pace of the early exchanges began to lull but Benzema should have scored a second three minutes before the interval, though he could only steer a low effort onto the post after a fine break involving Carvajal and Ronaldo.
Four minutes after the restart, however, Madrid took the lead for the first time in the tie. Ronaldo skipped his way brilliantly beyond Kalidou Koulibaly and into the area from the right, and his measured pass back to the edge of the area was promptly swept into Reina's bottom-left corner by the arriving Kroos.
Madrid sensed the chance to go for the kill and they added a third just five minutes later in spectacular - and unlikely - fashion. The ball was prodded away from James on the edge of the area as far as Casemiro, and the Brazilian blasted a dipping right-foot volley beyond the helpless Reina and into the bottom-left corner.
Mertens had been kept on the fringes of the action but he wasted a great chance to give Napoli a second away goal, curling a shot over the bar with the goal gaping after Jose Callejon controlled the ball into his path, and James would have punished that miss had Reina not raced off his line to make a good block at the Colombia star's feet.
Madrid dropped deeper in a bid to soak up some late Napoli pressure and, with the exception of a Callejon goal that was correctly ruled out for offside, they held firm to secure what could prove to be an insurmountable lead.

Health / 7 Steps To Keep Your Kidneys Healthy by Famoustemmy(m): 7:37am On Dec 20, 2016
Keep fit and active
Keeping fit helps to reduce your blood pressure and therefore reduces the risk of Chronic Kidney Disease.
The concept “on the move for kidney health” is a worldwide collective march involving the public, celebrities and professionals moving across a public area by walking, running and cycling.

Keep regular control of your blood sugar level
About half of people who have diabetes develop kidney damage, so it is important for people with diabetes to have regular tests to check their kidney functions.
Kidney damage from diabetes can be reduced or prevented if detected early. It is important to keep control of blood sugar levels with the help of doctors or pharmacists, who are always happy to help.

Monitor your blood pressure
Although many people may be aware that high blood pressure can lead to a stroke or heart attack, few know that it is also the most common cause of kidney damage.
The normal blood pressure level is 120/80. Between this level and 139/89, you are considered pre-hypertensive and should adopt lifestyle and dietary changes. At 140/90 and above, you should discuss the risks with your doctor and monitor your blood pressure level regularly. High blood pressure is especially likely to cause kidney damage when associated with other factors like diabetes, high cholesterol and Cardio- Vascular Diseases.

Eat healthy and keep your weight in check
This can help prevent diabetes, heart disease and other conditions associated with Chronic Kidney Disease.
Reduce your salt intake. The recommended sodium intake is five-six grams of salt per day (around a teaspoon). In order to reduce your salt intake, try and limit the amount of processed and restaurant food and do not add salt to food. It will be easier to control your intake if you prepare the food yourself with fresh ingredients.

Maintain a healthy fluid intake
Although clinical studies have not reached an agreement on the ideal quantity of water and other fluids we should consume daily to maintain good health, traditional wisdom has long suggested drinking 1.5 to 2 litres (3 to 4 pints) of water per day.
Consuming plenty of fluid helps the kidneys clear sodium, urea and toxins from the body which, in turn, results in a “significantly lower risk” of developing chronic kidney disease, according to researchers. The findings, the researchers said, do not advocate “aggressive fluid loading”, which can cause side effects, but they do provide evidence that moderately increased water intake, around two litres daily, may reduce the risk of decline in kidney function. It’s important to keep in mind that the right level of fluid intake for any individual depends on many factors including gender, exercise, climate, health conditions, pregnancy and breast feeding. In addition, people who have already had a kidney stone are advised to drink two to three litres of water daily to lessen the risk of forming a new stone.

Do not smoke
Smoking slows the flow of blood to the kidneys. When less blood reaches the kidneys, it impairs their ability to function properly. Smoking also increases the risk of kidney cancer by about 50 per cent.

Do not take over-the-counter pills on a regular basis
Common drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen are known to cause kidney damage and disease if taken regularly.
Such medications probably do not pose significant danger if your kidneys are relatively healthy and you use them for emergencies only, but if you are dealing with chronic pain, such as arthritis or back pain, work with your doctor to find a way to control your pain without putting your kidneys at risk.

Foreign Affairs / Electoral College Vote Seals Trump Victory As Us Next President by Famoustemmy(m): 7:08am On Dec 20, 2016
President-elect Donald Trump has received a majority in the US Electoral College as votes from Texas electors put him over the 270 threshold.
Monday’s result confirmed as expected Trump’s election as the 45th president of the United States.
The Electoral College appeared unswayed by a last-ditch bid by die-hard opponents to bar the Republican’s path to the White House. Six weeks after his upset victory over the Democrat Hillary Clinton, Trump sailed past the 270 votes needed to make his victory official, clearing the way for him to succeed Barack Obama on January 20.
