Health › Re: Share Your "Sleep Paralysis" Experience! by Fan01(m): 11:24pm On Dec 03, 2021 |
I used to think this was spiritual and I was under demonic attack. This unpleasant experience was a regular phenomenon for me when I was in college. Started few months when I got into college and, i think, it also ended few months after I graduated form college. Sometimes, it happens almost immediately I am about to fall asleep and I could experience it like 3 times a night. No matter how much I pray it out, it kept reoccurring. I thought it was spiritual. lol. No offense to those who believe demons are oppressing them but in almost 99% percent of the time, sleep paralysis is an indication of bad sleeping habit, sleep deprivation, stress and etc.
In my case, I studied an engineering course in one of the colleges in Nigeria. I was extremely discipline & hardworking to my own detriment. No kidding, for 5 years I was waking up at 3 a.m. & going to sleep around 11 p.m. or 11:30 p.m. Was it worth it? Maybe, I exceeded my expectations. But it could have been a pyrrhic victory - I almost destroyed my brain in the process. It doesn't happen to me anymore. I get my 8 hours of sleep sharp! even though I am pursing an advance degree now.
I forgot to add that there was almost no night I don't dream like twice lol. Excessively dreaming is also a sign that you might be sleep deprived or stress or something not good. Take care of your health. Sleep well! |

SalamRushdie: I have noticed that Nigerians are very ignorant on the unassailable power of the constitution so you hear them make very ignorant statements like " this should not be allowed to stand " "This must be reversed " but in reality and in the presence of the sacred constitution "NOTHING HAPPENED" !!!!! as Buhari neither has the power to niether select the CJN no replace him nor sack him or suspend him so in reality there is nothing to reverse here as Buharis action is totally ultra vires and as such the Status quo is the reality , a reality where Justice Onnoghen remains CJN till something constitional happens .
The questions doubting zombies should ask themselves are:
1 : Can the Senate President suspend the President?
2 : Can the CJN suspend the President?
3: Can the President suspend the Senate President?
4 : Can the CEO of MTN suspend the CEO of Airtel?
5: Can you suspend who you didnt employ and who doesn't work for you?
If your answer to any of the above is No then you should know Buhari is wrong.
What options does Buhari have now?
As it stands Buhari has just 3 options and they are :
1 : Respect the constitutional status quo
2: Beg Onnoghen to resign and then lobby the NJC to nominate Tanko .
3 . Lobby the NJC to recommend Onnoghen for removal and submit to the National assembly to vote on.
anything outside this is a stranger to our constitution and there null and void!!! Can I copy this please? You made so much sense here. |

Good morning! Having find your way here you have been delivery from agents, praised the Lord!. Your will need GRE, TOEFL, Transcripts recommendation letters from your lecturers, write a good SOP, some (very few) programs might ask for statement of research intent. Start your school search now, you could use some help from these websites; gradcafe, petersons.com, USnews.com. Usually its advisable that when making choice of school there should be a mix of ambitious, moderate, and safe, in your final list. Email the grad coordinator if the respective programs you intend to apply to and ask them questions that can not be easily gotten from the program website. Questions about funding, which faculty is launching a new project (it means the faculty will have some form of funding) etc. There are still many things I have to tell you. I will advise you follow this thread; https://www.nairaland.com/1832477/how-achieve-high-scores-gre read from first page to the end, by the time you are down you will have a better perspective. Cost analysis; GRE: $205 TOEFL: $180 Application fees for about 5 schools (it is usually advisable to apply to more than 1 school): average of $60*5 = $300 Transcripts: depending on your school it could cost you 30k. If the school you are applying to asked you to do WES then like additional $200. ( I will advise you to avoid school that ask for WES and Official transcript except you are 70% sure of admission or you are bucks up - omo baba olowo). Goodluck. innamorat: Good evening house, please i would love to apply for PhD program in the US.. Please what are the requirements and can someone give me an estimate of the finance involved |

Congratulations!! charles7even: HI GUYS, silent reader here. Took me a while to post this but still, just want to say a big thank you to you guys for sharing your experiences and also the vetting of proposed transcripts on here. I went for the interview at Abuja on the 30th of June and i was put on Administrative processing. My visa was eventually issued on the 6th of July, about 6 days later. Transcript: I was interviewed by the older nice white woman, can't remember the exact window because of tension. I just think i was lucky because it wasn't the younger white woman that had on a sweatshirt and baseball hat. She didn't look nice at all and was dishing out lots of rejections.
Me: Good afternoon madam VO: Hi good afternoon. Can you hand my your i20 please? Me: *hands over i20* Here you go VO: I can see that you want to go to the University of South Carolina. What do you want to study and why did you choose USC? Me: I am going to USC for my masters degree in Electrical engineering. I decided to go with USC because it was the best fit for my profile. I had targeted Ivy league schools initially but after getting my GRE score, i had to compromise a little and carry out a lot of research on USnews.com and Princeton review for schools that were good enough for my profile and USC seemed like it because of the excellent research facilities in their faculty of computing and electrical engineering. VO: What year did you finish your BSc.? Me: 2016 VO: What have you been doing since then? Me: I have been working in the telecoms industry VO: What do you plan to do after getting this degree? Me: Getting this masters degree and the expertise that comes with it will give me an advantage and i will be able to apply for more competitive positions when i am back in Nigeria. I have been able to establish contact and made friends and mentors in my current company and other companies in the telecom industry, I'm confident lots of opportunities brought about by this degree will be waiting for me when i am back in Nigeria. ( I also said something about starting my consultancy firm later in the future) VO: I can see from your i20 that you were given a research assistantship and partial funding. Do you have the offer letter for the assistantship? Me: hands over offer letter VO: Goes through offer letter then types into her computer VO: Who will take care of the expenses not covered by the funding? Me: I have been able to save some money and i will be taking care of my travel costs and initial settling in expenses (I am entitled to monthly stipends based on my assistantship). My aunt is my primary sponsor and will take care of the outstanding costs. VO: Do you have her bank account statement?(I'm surprised she didn't ask what my aunt does or why she was sponsoring me instead of my parents) Me: Hands over statements (Yes there were actually 2 different accounts, same holder though.) VO: *goes through first statement* This account does not have up to the amount required by the i20 Me: Yes madam, but there is the statement of the other account owned by my aunty *points out the second bank account statement to her* VO: Oh i see. This is alright. VO: Are you married? Me: No VO: Okay I will be holding on to your passport and your account statement. We will need to run some checks to verify that these documents are genuine. You do realise that if they are found to be fake, You will be banned from entering the US for 10 years. Me: Yes the documents are legit. VO: So I can go ahead and submit them? I will need your permission. Me: Yes madam, you can go ahead. VO: *hands me the small white slip, the slip with the pick up addresses and my i20* Here is your i20. You will need to have it on you at the point of entry. Make sure you arrive in the US before your resumption date stated in the i20. Any later date and you won't be allowed entry into the US. Do you have any questions? Me: No madam, thank you. VO: Have a good day.
I'm just grateful my interview was not as gruelling as i thought it would be. Best of luck to you guys that have interviews coming up. Cheers!! |

Congratulations bro. That window 9 lady is a G, she interviewed me too. No drama, just smooth. Epithet: I had my interview at the USA Embassy at Abuja. A few(or a lot) of check in procedures were the most tasking activities that day.
The Conversation;
VO: Why did you pick this school?
Me: Aligned Faculty interest in Biofuel and sustainable energy Research, I worked on a design project that entailed pyrolysis of agricultural waste to produce Biogas, and also it allows...(VO cuts in)
VO: You have a degree from what university?
Me: Federal University of Technology Minna. My Bachelor's degree is in Chemical Engineering and my Doctorate program is also in Chemical Engineering
VO: You are going for a doctorate program do you have a Masters degree?
Me: Just my Bachelors Degree. The PhD affords me the opportunity to carry out research at the highest academic level. Moreso, I get to apply for a senior lecturing position....
VO: What would you be doing with this degree?
Me: Thats what i just said. I would have the opportunity to apply for a senior lecturing position in my alma matter.. With the recent expansion of the engineering faculty...
VO: What are the major problems facing Biofuel? Me: Lower Energy Content as compared to fossil fuel, high proportion of glycerol, high water consumption, poor cold properties... And also there's the food vs fuel debate
VO: So I would be approving your Visa, I'm keeping your passport, here's your I20
Me : Thank You
She gave me a Red Paper, with a smaller white slip specifically for F1 Visa Applicants, just reiterating the program start date rule and the 30days mandate, also stated was the fact that I would need my I20 and passport at the point of entry.
The only distinct thing was that she was also standing at her window (Window 9). |

Let her remain in her own world of fantasy. reDazey: From your post, I think I agree with the GRE and TOEFL part. The other part is influenced by your own personal views. 1. Are you aware that there are over 4000 accredited schools in the United States? If EducationUSA can invite such schools to Nigeria for college fair, please madam, you have no business calling them dead schools! 2. Are you aware that all fingers are not equal? Everyone did not and would not come out with first class or second class upper? 3. Are you aware that everyone must not attend top schools? 4. Are you aware that some of those who went to your so-called dead schools get H1b visa sponsorship? 5. Are you aware that people further their studies for different reasons other than the limited reasons you gave above? The world is full of opportunities and everyone's path is different. 6. Are you aware that going to a top school does not guarantee a job offer after school?
My point: The flavor of your post was haughty. Hence, my response to you. Do not use your personal preferences to judge other people. They are not you. Learn to understand individual differences. |
Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Fan01(m): 4:48am On Jun 07, 2018 |
Your last statement limits your drive and determination to want to go through this process, though I understand you need to do the cost/benefit analysis before you dive in. As for your undergraduate GPA you can not change it, however I see you also have a masters degree which is a plus on your application. To be candid, we can't put a specific value on your probability of getting admission and full funding. My advise for you will be to work on acing your TOEFL and GRE, you can make up for your weak GPA in your SOP. Select you schools wisely, if you have to contact the grad coordinator of every school you want to apply to do. Also, try and get your masters thesis published, build other aspect of your profile. The US application process is very complex and nuanced, there is no ideal recipe on what do and what not. Good luck. Alobay: I have been following this thread for a while, kindly help me please. I have a CGPA of 3.01/5 for my bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering and I also have weighted average of 60B+ for my masters degree in Chemical Engineering too. I want to do PhD in Chemical Engineering in US or Canada with full scholarship or funding and I am intending to sit for GRE and TOEFL to obtain high scores. Will I get admission with full funding please in US or Canada if I get high scores in GRE and TOEFL. Kindly note that I am intending to send my transcripts to WES for evaluation but I need to know my fate first before spending any money. I will be very grateful for your candid advice |

EducationUSA have only two centers in Nigeria - Abuja and Lagos. Your choice will depend on your proximity to any of the location. I do not know much about Lagos center, but for Abuja center you will have to come for an orientation first, which is usually every Wednesday by 10:00am, venue is art and culture area 10. After the orientation you may decide to register for membership, and I will advise you to. calculator123: I just received a mail from a prof , he stated that i should join EducationUSA for Nigeria. How am i suppose to do this? cc ponpon, rexcheng, quoran, happyday |

Wow, good job well done! Chidinho10: Now, I told you to send me list of MS Finance programs you saw and I'm sad you just provided list of universities with some of them not having MS Finance programs. It will be great if you do things in a nice way so that you can get the best form of assistance you need. Let's look at the schools you listed.
UPenn - They don't have a standalone Masters in Finance. The Masters in Finance you saw there is part of their PhD program.
Ohio State - STEM program and relatively low tuition compared to most MSF programs. If you send in a decent profile (GRE 310 + decent GPA), you'll get some form of financial aid either through GA (50% tuition waiver + stipends) or monetary scholarship. As for placements, it is not a Wall Street placer but it can put you in a nice Finance role at a decent company.
NYU - Aside from their MBA program, all NYU Stern Masters programs get K-leg cos they're meant for professionals. So remove am from your list.
I'll assume you meant University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)
UCLA - UCLA does not have an MSF program. What they actually have is an MS Financial Engineering program. You need to understand that Finance and Financial Engineering are two different programs with different career paths. FE is more mathematically-inclined with some programming (mostly C++). FE leads to careers as Quant Analysts and they are very much in high demand. UCLA Anderson, UC Berkeley Haas and Columbia Fu Foundation Engineering School are among the best 15 Financial Engineering programs in the US.
UMich Ann Arbor - UMich Ann Arbor does not have an MS Finance program. It's instead offered by their Dearborn campus. I won't advise you to pay tuition for that program.
Boston College: I don't think this program is STEM. Won't advise you to apply.
UT Austin : The only STEM program at Red McCombs Business School is their MS Business Analytics. Since this is non STEM, I won't advise you to apply considering that you can get better STEM programs elsewhere.
Northwestern University : Kellogg does not have a standalone MS Finance program.
UCBerkerley Haas - As I said with UCLA, what they have is an MS FE program which is one of the best on the market.
University of Virginia : Darden does not have a standalone MS Finance. McIntire School of Commerce however has a MS Commerce program with concentration in Finance but it's not STEM. So don't apply.
Indiana University : Kelley's program is online.
University of Wisconsin : There are several Universities of Wisconsins. Specify the one you mean.
As I said earlier, you should have an idea of what jobs you want after graduation and where you want to work before choosing an MS Finance program. All programs have their area of specialty and how they place their students. Having an idea of that will help you in selecting schools that meet your needs.
Also, I should point out that most top MS Finance programs do not provide full financial aid especially those target schools with excellent placements on the Street. So if that is a priority, you should also consider that while making your choice of schools.
Forgive my typos. I wrote this in haste. |

Visa denied twice at the Lagos consulate
Brief background: I hold an M.A. degree in English (concentration: Syntax) but I was admitted on a full scholarship into Uni of Louisville for a master’s program in Rhetoric and Composition (under English dept). However, on the two occasions of my interview, the need for another master’s in the same discipline was always the brick wall.
VO: Why are you going to the US Me: I’m going to the US to resume into the dept of English, Uni of Louisville for a master’s programme in Rhetoric and composition VO: What is your highest qualification? Me: A master’s in English VO: So why are you going for a master’s in the same discipline Me: Though under the broad discipline of English, I am going to study for another master’s because of my change of research focus. My first master’s was on Syntax but my understanding that Rhetoric and composition is a relatively new area of study in Nigeria which has little academics who specialize in it made me decide to take on this master’s to lead discussion in the area and be among those to frontier it into prominence in Nigeria (I might not have fully captured all word-for-word). VO: Which other schools did you apply to Me: BGSU, UND, WSU VO: What made you choose Uof L Me: The university is one of the well ranked public research institutions with cutting edge research capacities. It gives the opportunity to translate research findings into innovative practices through participation in conferences and workshop. |
